[Q] Why do I get the stock android lockscreen randomly? Exploit maybe? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

For some reason the stock android lockscreen comes on randomly for no given reason. Figured I'd post it here just for the fact maybe it could be some kind of exploit allowing stock android to run as opposed to the Samsung firmware without tripping knox. The phone is on MK2. It happens mostly after setting the phone down, a blue light will flash then about a second later the lockscreen pops up for about 2 or 3 seconds. Can't use it, but it displays correct info pertaining to my phone. Just something interesting I believe could be looked more in to unless it's already been covered.

Are you being serious or is this a joke?
Check out "Motions and Gestures" in your settings and do a little research about your phone. It can do some pretty cool things.

It has nothing to do with motions or gestures so yes I am being serious. Also why does it have a live wallpaper. I'm not new to this stuff I know what's normal and what isn't. If it's nothing just tell me so and I'll just ignore or tell me why it's doing it. That was my original question, not how do I enable motion and Gestures. It will also do it if the phone is just sitting there without being touched. It just comes on for no reason.

CM9 - Possible to change Touchstone Charge Behaviour

Hi all,
When I charge my HP TP running CM9 nightly, a clock screen is displayed automatically. I note that after my screen time out period of five minutes, the screen does power off, however when I wake up in the morning the screen is on displaying the clock screen - I guess email or some other notifications turn the screen back on.
Basically, can I change the behaviour so that when I put the TP onto the Touchstone, nothing special happens and this clock isn't displayed? I have an app that switches the screen off when the case is closed, and essentially this charging behaviour is interfering with this. I don't want the TP clock blazing away lighting the screen up all night.
Thanks,
Andy
Wow some refuse to do any work on their own....
If you want to shut the screen down all you have to do is hit the power button and the screen shuts down
As far as the Desk Clock app... You simply go into app manager and clear the defaults for it

Thank you for your reply - unfortunately the option to clear defaults for the clock is greyed out.

I'm puzzled by your sarcasm - no, I can't figure this out by myself as I can't identify the configurable part of android that triggers this clock front end. I had Googled it but I can't find a suitable answer there either. Whilst I can shut the screen off with the power button, as per my original post when I wake up in the morning the screen has come back on.
Cheers!

Then you have something installed waking your TP that we have no way of troubleshooting without some type of log.... when you shut the screen down there is no reason for Android to turn it back on unless YOU have EXPLICITLY given an app YOU installed permission to do so. As far as the clock... when you set the TP on the Touchstone one of two things happens... a dialog box comes up with the apps that can by default be activated when placed on Touchstone OR YOU HAVE designated a default app to do this....
Now if YOU can't remember which app YOU ALLOWED to run then you have one of two choices.... go through all the apps in app manager clearing all defaults OR wipe all data and start from scratch and pay attention to what you press this time

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately you are wrong.
I only have the clock app installed that triggers when the device docks - no other apps respond to this event, therefore when I dock the device I don't get presented with the option/choice, it just displays the clock as there is no alternative. I've found the best solution to be to install 'Screen Off ' from the market. This has an option to act on the dock event, and now when I put the device on the dock I get given the choice as to whether to show the clock or to power off the screen. This works pretty much perfectly, and without the clock showing the screen stays off, instead of coming back on randomly after I shut it off - therefore, I don't think that the clock was coming back on before due to notifications from apps/emails, but be cause the clock app itself was triggering - possibly when the device reaches full charge or something and temporarily disconnects from the dock or something, I don't know. In summary, you need more than one app installed that is coded to respond to the dock event, otherwise when you dock the device android just defaults to the dock event and powers the screen back on periodically. I have never explicitly enabled this behaviour, and without installing another app it seemingly cannot be changed or disabled.
I thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, but I think you should learn something from this thread - just because a problem may seem to be user error doesn't necessarily mean that it is - your post is completely wrong which is fine as I appreciate that you are just trying to help, but by getting all aggressive over it you've just ended up looking a little stupid. The forums should be all about helping people, not ridiculing them - hopefully this post will serve to help anyone out with a similar predicament.
Cheers.

The clock app doesn't trigger itself. Mine charges all night and never turns back on. That said, it is almost impossible to move the pad while it's on the TS without charge disconnecting and reconnecting. And that will trigger the clock app. So, if you have the TS on an unstable surface that allows ir to be inadvertently "jiggled", that could cause the clock to turn back on.

Hey Man,
I don't know if it affects other devices to be honest. On my phone the clock app is configurable, but on my Cyanogenmod9 HP TP tablet it isn't something that you can change the behaviour of (if you tap the stock 'Clock' app it just locks the screen and displays a clock, you cant set any options like on my SGSII). I don't know if this is a feature of tablet OS'es in general, or just the CM iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Either way, the 'Screen Off' app references working with a number of docks (blurb specifically references Sony ones) so I'd give it a shot and hopefully it will work for you.
I had that problem too, it was very annoying. I installed dock no op from the market and it finally stopped waking me up. That seems like the only option since cm9 doesn't let you set the dock behavior.

Disable Screen Capture?

I have searched xda and Google but haven't found an answer. Does anyone know how to disable or remove screen capture? I tried freezing screen capture.apk in TB but that didn't help. I'm really tired of my pocket taking screen shots of my lock screen whenever I get a text. :-/

Uh, you could flash an aosp Rom...they don't have swipe screen shot feature, which is what iimagine is happening right?
On aosp it's volume down and power only, no swipe, or s-pen shot at all.
Not sure how to remove it though
Yeah that's what's happening. It didn't start doing that until I flashed the last ics leak and now it's doing it on the official release. It only does it if I'm walking around with my phone in my pocket and I get a text and only about 75% of the time then. I would use an aosp rom but I like having the spen functionality.

Do you want screenshots completely disabled or just the swipe screenshot disabled?
Completely disabled is much easier, as I just did a quick test and completely disabled screenshots.
What ROM are you using?
EDIT: Spoke too soon. I'm partially there...it doesn't take screenshots anymore, but it crashes SystemUI when you try to. I'll keep looking into it.
Since it happens on screen wake with texts, why not use SMS pop up from the market and disable notifications in the native messaging app. At least it won't wake in your pocket.
Honestly either way is fine with me, I don't ever take screen shots so I really wouldn't miss the feature.
I'm on the official att ics stock rom rooted and cwm.

I've been digging around in SystemUI and can disable just the swipe screenshot, but it crashes SystemUI most of the time.
This may be a dumb question but did you freeze or remove screen capture.apk when you were trying that?

Not a dumb question at all. Freezing the screen capture apk doesn't stop the screen shot from being taken, which is a little bizarre.
I should get some more time to work on this tomorrow. Might take someone better than me though.
Yeah I thought it was weird that freezing it didn't do anything. I was thinking maybe that apk is what is causing the crashes when fooling with the system UI.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717
I worked on this some more today and its still crashing when I try to prevent the screenshot from being taken. I think another way would be to stop the phone from using the palm sweep gesture. That might be easier to figure out and I think is in framework.
That would work too.

[HOW TO] Increase touch sensitivity and Double-Tap-To-Wake Functionality(Force Touch)

First of all, thanks to @xtermmin for pointing me in the right direction for this.
Steps to increase touch sensitivity and get DTTW functioning better:
Download Shortcut Master Lite
Hit the ellipsis at the top right and click App Explorer (Yes to the error)
Tap anywhere to get the loading circle to go away and find something called Force Touch
In the Force Touch menu, select ZteLCDPressureSettings and hit Launch
Here you will find some options.
Tap Pressure Sensitivity and move the red dot slider all the way to the left where the green "Light" is.
Back out of the menu and you are done.
There are some other things under features that may be of interest as well to some people.
Additionally, there are a couple other items in the Force Touch menu that could play a role in ROMs down the line. The "Press Image" option has a toggle within that item but it does not stick upon backing out and reentering the menu.
If you find anything else of interest, please let everyone know so we can make this the best phone we've ever owned.
Thanks!
Awesome, T2W works better now.... Thanks

This definitely helped! Kinda odd that there is a slight delay from when you double tap and when it actually wakes. I remember the LG G2 responding more quickly with this feature. Also miss the double tap to lock screen too that almost no other phone had (though with nova launcher and an app, you can do this). Regardless, I'm glad the functionality is there.
What's interesting about this little hack is that it clearly is using the force touch settings that will be found in the 6GB RAM model that has a force touch display. Funny how it remains in the ROM anyway, just tucked away since this model doesn't use force touch.
Can I remove the vibration when I use the double tap to wake?
This has made 0 difference for me. I've got a 64gb US variant. I've also noticed double tap to wake stops working when the phone is in Doze. Anyone else have this issue?
Same same with doze, but when my phone isn't deeply asleep this tip indeed increased touch sensitivity.

It's there by default on the US model, at least.
While this definitely improves DT2W functionality, it's still temperamental. I find that now it responds best to very light touches, but harder taps are ignored. If I tweak it to be less sensitive, it does exactly that: it requires a harder touch at all times. Why can't it just respond to a range of touches? My G3 worked just fine in this regard.

Totally agree with this. It's still very inconsistent, but mine does work if I slam it twice as well as tap it lightly twice. It doesnt always work and it's still delayed. This was sort of a bandaid for a bigger problem though. I hope CM, and ....probably nothing else? at this point...can address it further.

Quite honestly, the Axon 7's story is perpetually: "[insert company here] did a better job of implementing [insert feature here]". There is very little (if anything) that the Axon 7 does better than the big manufacturers, IMO. It does a passable (sometimes even decent) job of most things, though - and at an appreciable discount - which is why I still have mine. It's a budget flagship. It's high-trim Toyota versus a Lexus. Add to that the potential for improvements via software (which is the source of many of my complaints, really), and I think it's a solid buy with quirks I'm willing to live with for a little while as ZTE steps up and makes improvements.
Yep exactly from hardware point is very very capable device but from software although it's pretty good level but there's still staff for many improvements.
Axon 7 is my first Chinese smartphone from Chinese company until now and I'm quite pleased with the all package offering having it 5-6 days, but I would like to see from ZTE much more effort and listening the user base and bring as much improvement and tweaks to the software.

Stop warning me, i'm a grown man

Why does Samsung feel is necessary to warn me that my headphones are getting louder and could possibly damage my hearing?
Now even the brightness level has to warn me that I am making the screen bright
I am a grown Azz man with two children a mortgage and a job. I'm pretty sure I can handle the responsibility of not blowing my eardrums out, or burning my retina with my Note 8.
What's even worse is now the threshold warning is even lower for the headphone volume. It used to be about 80% now its about 60%.
The one thing I miss it out custom roms is that we used to be able to disable that. Is there any mods available to stop those warnings? Probably the most frustrating thing about modern Samsung devices in my opinion

You'll see that won't stop the notification message after reboot. That's a parental control to lock it to a set max where children cannot go past without a PIN code.
There is another way using tasker and autotools.
True. Hopefully Samsung fixes it in a future update... ? This way works for now though unless I go the tasker route later on. I don't reboot my phone often this soon into the phones life anyway, and it's not a huge pain to go into the settings and change it until my next reboot.

Once you click OK, you'll be fine until next reboot without dealing with that step.
In this very subforum is a tasker trick that seems to fix it for most folks.

I'm glad you got this to work for you. I've updated the OP to say that you must hit the "play" button to test this before it will work. I tested this by turning it off, rebooting, then allowing the popup to come back. Then I tried simply re-enabling this event and rebooting. The popup came back. It did not start working again until I hit play to test it. Then it survived every reboot again.
To the OP I'd say visit my thread here to get it to turn off forever.

If you're in the EU, that volume limiter thing is a regulation, so you can't disable it normally.

I'm in South Africa, so probably same rule apply

The EU or International version only warns about high headphone volume the once after reboot. This is the case with my N950N. Once you click OK It never comes up again until you reboot. From what I can gather this is what the option in the 3 dots does on the Snapdragon version. Stops it coming up every single time. The International version does not have the 3 dot menu because that option to stop the warning coming up every single time is already enabled by default.
i dont have that option as well
In most case it's not because they care so much about our well being. They place these sort of obstacles there for legal purposes. Pressing "ok" is basically signing a release of liability for any hearing damages caused by our increasing of the volume. I wouldn't bet on them fixing this any time soon.
Go into developer settings and turn off absolute volume?
Wow.. how sad.. never knew this.. THANKS!
youre clearly not if you made this thread..

Phone screen wont shut off

On my note 8 the screen won't shut off when using the phone causing multiple screens to pop up that I have to swipe away just to get back to the phone app. Did I miss a setting somewhere?
Thanks

You need to make sure your face is completely against the phone and make sure the screen is clean also.. If that doesn't help check some of the settings in the actual phone app.
