[MOD] PureX Audio (v3.0) - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

zerromusic update
This is not my work. I saw mBear posted this a little white back for the Z1, and he gave me permission to post it here for the Ultra. Any issues comment below and I'll see what I can do....
Credits: @MightyBear007 & @ZeroInfinity
** NOTES **
- This mod will work for Locked/Unlocked Bootloaders as long as you have a custom recovery.
- The speaker's audio quality becomes worse as you increase the volume. This is because our speaker cannot handle the output i.e. loud volumes with increased quality. It is impossible to keep audio quality and loud volume because of our hardware. The Z1 and Z Ultra DON'T have a dedicated Amp inside it's chipset. So don't expect extreme loud sound.
- When playing music, it could take a few seconds to let Sound Enhancements load your settings
- If you are having audio skipping issues, make sure that you exclude: Walkman (If you have 2 Walkman apps, select the second one), PureXAudio Engine and MusicFX in STAMINA Mode so that the phone will not try and make it inactive. If you have Skipping in any other music player, add that in the exclude list of Stamina mode.
Features:
New Audio effects/presets (PureXHiClarity/PureXPsychoRealism/PureXBeats)
-Sony Digital Sound Enhancement Engine ported from Walkman NWZ-F805 (EXCLUSIVE TO PXA, STRONGLY ADVISE TO TURN DOWN VOLUME BEFORE ENABLING)

-Slightly louder speaker, earpiece and headphone volume
-Improved ALSA with many plugins and custom configs
-32Bit Unsigned Integer Quantization

Yes, I've been having similar issues with V4A on stock roms, although I got it to work with one music application (Play Music) in compatible mode. V4A worked flawlessly on AOKP roms though.
Gonna check this one out later as I need to have a working audio enhancing mod on stock.

@hamdogg Do you need to be deodexed? Ta..

Ooh, this looks a little fancy. I guess i'll have to try it out this weekend. Thanks, Ham

How we know the difference.... I installed it but maybe i hear a little improvement in headphone sound.....does it have an effect cause i installed it over z1 loud sound and z1 beats audio....

It should be significantly better over low to medium sound volume. any louder and you will sound quite bad.
On my SBH-52 it is quite noticeable... sounds really good. Bass sounds punchier and mid range is good too. tweakers sound under done, but I think thats the whole point in the MOD

How can I select mod?I have install it through recovery but after reboot I can't find any mod selection...can u point out for me?

Viper4Android tunes up the whole ALSA Parameters
whereas this mod multiplies the frequencies and does some super sampling which can only be achieved in Sony Devices

Good alternative to DSP Manager for stock rooted?

I go back and forth between AOSP and CleanROM, and the think I miss the most with the stock based CleanROM is DSP Manager. I've seen lots of posts and threads for DSP Manager versions that supposedly work with stock, but when I install them they either run smoothly but don't affect audio or they force close repeatedly.
With AOSP, I install Basic Kernel and have unofficial Voodoo Sound plus DSP Manager :good:. Is there any way for me to get sound comparable to that on stock-based ROMs?

If you are using solely power amp you are really missing out.
And as far as the beats add on goes, that is also an add on in acid mod. Really should check it out guys, boosts audio quality by a lot.

Less music processing is good music processing. I've tried most of the available audio mods (but not on this phone yet) and the difference is not much unless you use/like the effects. Most of the mods use tricks like enabling compression to make it sound 'better'. The EQ presets are a joke. An EQ curve should not have all the adjusted frequencies boosted. The right way is to drop 2 bands rather than boost six of them. And freq's boosted 10-12db? If you have even decent phones (say $40) and you need more than a couple of freq's adjusted a few db (6 max) than SQ has a different meaning to you than people who enjoy accurate sound reproduction.
But it's your ears, do what sounds good to you. That's the cool thing about music. You only have to satisfy yourself.
This is not directed at any one person even though i used the word 'you'. I'm just kind of annoyed with the hyperbole around these sound mods.

There are mods for sound volume, but the Sony based ROM's (mine included) even CM based ROM's can't change what Sony have done. and the thing is that even companies like sony... all they can do is change EQ settings which they do with clear voice and +enhancement. So there isn't much we can do, because its all about hardware. The XU has ok hardware, but not fantastic.
So all you can really do is make a custom setting for EQ settings that feels good for you.

Android is fixed @ 44.1 KHz. I'm afraid that just resampling chain will be longer, and whole operation is pointless without kernel driver replacement. Right now we have 48KHz fixed hardware (by kernel driver), so....
Sound player -> any sound mod --- > 192Khz upsample ----> 44.1 Khz android downsample -> kernel driver 48 Khz upsample
All you can really try is this clean audio mod
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1Iy8gxK9tcZS1RhY0REaHFXQ2M/edit?usp=sharing
It increases the volume with clear audio and also increases the bass. But its still just EQ settiings. But with this as a base, you can also improve other settings in the EQ

I made three of my own mods to improve and tweak certain things on a Sony base. But the reason I don't have them in the ROM itself is because most people want to keep it stock. So then you can mod it they way you want. Of course there are tweaks within build.prop that do a lot, but not at a base level.

Well maybe, but given the option within that rom is a great thing to and also easy to get rather than search one forum at a time...yes it's good to keep it stock and like me, also like it that way but a change also recommended....if want stock, why flashing the same thing that what is already there....of course some stock rom like yours have modified to make it better but some little change is also good or given the option to do so within that rom....just my opinion....
Like me, I like it to have a theme, like different icon, added resize widget and maybe like Htc widget, more animation, different battery icon with percentage...just my wish list....some of this can be found on old phone but not today's....just miss it...if I have a skill to make my own Rome I will make it like that, but not possible by my knowledge....

Is the speaker and headphone section all you changed or is there more to it? Asking as I like to add the change manually as I have other sound mods in place and would like to keep those as well.
Edit: I went ahead and replaced the whole mixer file and fixed permissions and when I rebooted it broke all sound. Had to delete and replace with backup to get sound working.

I tried this app but it didn't work as advertised.
It has indeed improved and made my sound quality louder.
However, I'm not getting the so called 'stereo' effect as stated.
I'm still only getting sound from the loudspeaker but not from the earpiece.
Anyway to get the sound working from the earpiece?

Thank you so much for your fast response.
I can confirm I've copied and pasted the mixer paths file into the system/etc folder, restarted and sound is now coming out the earpiece.
It does indeed work, sounds much better having stereo sound rather than mono.
Cheers bro. :good:

@ dontbelive, an update. I just tried a game and I'm getting stereo sound!
I'm also getting separate sounds for both left and right speakers, gaming is so much better.
Previously I tried other sound mods but by far this has been the best one so far.
Never did I know we'd ever get stereo sound working on our Z Ultra's.
Thank you so much for your hard work and assistance in getting the mod working.
Interesting mod, but I would be cautious with this. Keep in mind that the earpiece speaker isn't as big or powerful as the main external speaker, so don't go busting the airpiece now, or else you're all royally screwed.

The sound is unbelievable!! Finally I can get greater sound out of my device. Thank you very much OP!
Just a quick question though. Has there been any optimization done to the clearaudio+ option? When I turn it on and off while playing music, I definitely hear a difference. Is the purpose to have it on with the mod or are the other options more superior?
My question to @pricey2009 what is your setup? Do you have clearaudio+ on or off? Having it on, does it disable xLoud?
Is this mod based on sonico by JimRnor

I have it on or off depending on what im listening to/watching..
It enables all the xloud, clearphase, HTC beats effects etc all at once to enhance the sound.
Different people have different preferences so just experiment with the settings and eq until you are happy

Installed and several reboots model D6603
I have followed all pass for the installation of the mod and when reboot dessapear all icons of the home screem and after the device reboot only. Sorry but my English is poor.
Compilation 23.2.A.1.62 Vodafone_Es used.
I have a quick question. In the Audio settings, there is ClearAudio+ and sound effects. When opening sound effects, we have clear stereo, clear phase & xLOUD settings. When enabling all options, Clear Phase keeps getting disabled, is that normal?
When listening to music and changing various effects, I don't seem to get any. What would be the best options to choose to test if it's properly working? At the moment, the only effect I can notice is the use of stereo speakers when using loud speaker in a phone call.
Loudspeaker is definitely louder and clearer. It's only when using earphones to listen to music I don't seem to hear any difference when selecting and unselecting different options...
What do you suggest I do with regards to setting options and a way to test if the options are working properly?
If I select ClearAudio+ then sound effects is automatically disabled. However, when disabling ClearAudio+ and going to sound effects, they are enabled. Can I not use both?
Where are the Settings for Beats Audio i dosent found them?

Does this have any effect at all?

[Q] Z2 Sound enhacement in all apps

As the title says, is there any way to route the other apps to use the sound enhacements? For example poweramp has a Music Fx feature, when activated, it uses the system's sound enhacements but youtube and other apps such as browsers have a low quality sound.
I use existenz premium lp.
I used to have existenz kk which had improved sound in all apps.
Simple. Should you be rooted and have recovery, flash any desired sound mod. If you are not rooted and have recovery, there is not much you can do...
I think you don't understand my problem. I already have two mods that give me exactly what I want but the sound effects are only available in Sony apps such as Walkman video album, and poweramp because it can be forced to use the system's sound.

Bro you really don't get it. Of course the mod gives a more powerful volume, I'm not complaining about volume, I'm taking about quality here. The sound effects do not apply to other apps. I'm a perfectionist and I feel even a tiny difference and believe me it's far from the best it can do (YouTube sound vs power amp/Walkman etc).

I understand now, lol. You want high QUALITY audio?
Well, on lollipop I am using Project PXBA™ 2.0:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/sound-mod-z2-z3-5-1-1-project-pxba-t3197101
Ps. You must be on Lollipop 5.1.1 in order for the sound mod to work correctly.
This mod is one of the best, if not the best possible mod should you want the best quality sound.
Here is what you get with the mod:
*Z5 Premuim latest build's Audio System
*Beats Audio
*htc boom sound effects with harman kardon
*Sony icx1237 scripts
*Improved ALSA with many plugins and custom configs
*Improved audio resolution
*Maxx , SRS & DTS to increase Bass & Clarity
*Stereo Speaker MOD (for Call)
*Enabled AudioPreProcessing features (auto noise suppressor & gain)
*Improved built in speaker and headphone's gain/volume
*More Dynamic Range with wider soundstage
*Best Asound (28224kHz 64bit) (Thanks Project Desire)
*Forcing 24-64 playback
*Highly boosted - X-Loud , Clear Audio+ , FM-Radio , Clearphase
*More 2x Power (lossless) effects than older version
*Work with Viper4Android

Not at all. Just far higher quality and far louder. Best of all you get dual speakers ringing when you get phone calls/sms messages and also dual speakers when using loudspeaker in a phone call!

I think you mean the equalizer setting.
As far I know, the global equalizer affecting all apps by default was removed by Google in Lollipop and instead the apps need to have option inside to enable its own equalizer or the system equalizer.
