[Q] Updating radios and hboot problems - HTC Rezound

So i achieved s-off using the rumrunner method and it worked great. So the next step i took was updating the hboot and radios , which worked to an extent.... Before i updated them they were somewhere like hboot 2.25 and radios 1.2 or something along those lines. I used this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38527788&postcount=745 and it updated and i assumed it was the most up to date but then i later checked more carefully and it only updated me to hboot 2.27.0000 and radios 2.22.10.0801r/2.22.10.0803r So i downloaded it again and checked the md5 like last timed and updated it again and its still the same. I dont know whats wrong can anyone help me out? Thanks guys!

From reading the surrounding posts around the post you linked, it seems like as of THAT time those were the latest. I'm not sure, but I think in one of neo's threads has the latest.

Here is what you need if S-OFF... see post #33 for a radios and hboot only flashable ZIP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250494
Either rename to PH98IMG.zip and place on SD Card and allow to flash in HBoot, or just flash with CWM/TWRP.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40767819
Ok so this is one that works with soff. Just have to rename and flash how you soff the previous one probably.

Simply put... there isn't one.
4.5.605.14 was only ever released as an OTA update, no RUU publicly exists, all we have is cherry picks from the OTA.
The best you could do there is flash the last available RUU (3.14.605.12) and manually apply the updates.

You installed the firmware for the 4.03.605.2 OTA. There is a more recent Global RUU 4.05.605.14 that has the 2.28 hboot with the 0123r/0124r radios. You can just flash the firmware without losing your recovery or flashing the full RUU. Rename to PH98IMG.zip and flash in HBOOT.

The first link (post #33) has both radios and Hboot... the second is Hboot only (post #26). You should do them as a pair, although it is possible to have an "unmatched" pair of hboot/radios, on the 0123r/0124r radios some people did have issues if they didn't have 2.28 Hboot, if I remember right.

Correct... No RUU or even a full official ROM image exists publicly. I do know that an exe RUU exists for 4.5.605.14, but it may never see the light of day. I know the person who leaked the previous RUUs to AndroidPolice in the past, they have access to the file but there are other reasons he can't release it, I honestly don't know anymore details.

I got 3 messages in a row about assistance with this issue lol. So I figured it was urgent. Sorry it took me a little bit to reply. I think I've got the s-off version of the latest update somewhere on either my Rezound or my website data stash. I'll have to look for it when I get the chance. My personal opinion: if you are able to flash roms, fastboot, adb, and boot into recovery from the boot loader, there's really no other reason to update it.

Back to GB from ICS Leak?

Hello all,
I'm a bit new with the Rezound, I was pretty experienced with the DInc2 and DInc before it, but I'm wondering something, I've looked around a bit, so apologies if I missed a thread, but I haven't found a straight up direct answer.
I have the latest ICS leak installed on my phone, I haven't rooted or s-off'd the phone just yet.... so what I need to know is:
1. Do I need to be S-OFF to flash the GB RUU so I can get the OTA when it releases?
OR
2. Will the phone still pick up the OTA with the leaked version of ICS since the leak is still an "official" build etc.
Hello, i'm also looking for same info, only i'm like a super noobie, I have an RUU, INSTALLED the HTC sync, which failed saying "waiting for boot loader" and that's all she wrote. So I think I need to do something to the boot loader, only what i'm not too sure.
Thanks.

Good question, not new to htc, I came from the tbolt, but if I run the latest ruu as a .img file through hboot, how would I get back to the stock gb rom that's currently on my rez, or will I be able to accept the ota while on the leak?
from my knowledge you will be able to ota to the release as long as it is a higher version that what the current leak is.
and if that fails you could s-off then gb ruu and then ota up.
I would like to go back to a nandroid backup of GB ROM that I had before I updated my firmware to the latest ICS leak. I can get it to restore & boot up, but I have no access to my sd card, so I have none of my apps. I feel like I've tried everything - nandroid helper, old firmware fix - but I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?
In my trials to go back to a ginger bread RUU based firm ware, the process gets stuck at waiting on the boot loader, the phone is apparently not recognized. It is also not seen by the HTC sync.
the boot loader has been locked I don't know what to do next. It doesn't appear I can flash anything from fast boot menu.
Thanks for reading this far.

Hello and thanks for your time looking into this.
I am on ICS Leak - and need to go back to GB - the thing is good but the battery is atrocious and it heats like anything.
So I went ahead and put the thing in boot loader and then ran the RUU after exiting the HTC sync. Now I am getting Error 140 - Boot loader version Error.
Ah the pain this phone is causing
I have one more question: Do I have to do this every time I want to go back to a previous backup (one that I did prior to updating to the ICS firmware)? If so, I'm wondering if it wouldn't just be easier to go back to GB firmware......
Ver Change for Error 140 - Android SDK CMD???
According to my research - I need to down the version using hex editor via ADB Shell. Dear God !
I have tried / installed SDK/ and Java Dev Kit. No Go - is there an app I can do this on the phone itself?
Thanks

Given I cannot downgrade back from HBoot 2.25.0000 is it not simpler to wait for the next RUU - whatever that is may over write this one?

You will need s-off to revert but as of hboot 2.25 it doesnt accept flashboot commands. Kinda stuck til a patched hboot gets released if you took the 5/7 leak.

Thanks for looking into this - so my option is to wait for a patched hboot 2.25 or wait for another RUU with an Hboot higher than 2.25.
I was wondering if I could install CWM recovery - and just flash myself an GB ROM. My issues with this ROM are overheating and battery chomping. I wonder if that will be helped with a GB ROM - supposedly more mature and efficient. If this can be done can you point me to a thread?

Then you´re probably s-on.
Did you unlock your bootloader? Do you have root access?
When booting into the bootloader it will say s-on or s-off.
I s-offed my phone yesterday with the same hboot, using the wiretrick here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466

Used it myself, simply boot up into hboot with that file on your sd card, and accept.
Then it'll restart bootloader and voila, hboot 1.49.0007
The hboot wil also say 'locked' on top.

Damn somebody got hamed on by coal686. By the way homie, hamed is a term in Detroit used to describe somebody that got told off. But on a serious note, this site doesn't need pompous jerks trying to act like they are better by trying to sound intellectually brighter than somebody and having a smart mouth. This site is full of devs and users collaborating together to help one another. So there's no need to be a ****. I'm not name calling I'm just merely stating facts

It's all good. I edited mine to to be more straight to the point. Some people do need to be reminded what this site is all about and I don't think you were in the wrong. Although sometimes we all make mistakes its recognizing them and being the better man sometimes. Btw I liked your comeback as well. Not too harsh and got the point across
Thank all of you guys for all the help! I appreciate it. I have another question. I flashed the 3d to metro pcs. If i flash another rom will it delete the flash? and i downloaded apn backup but it says that ics doesnt let it back up or restore anything...
No it shouldn't. And are you flashing a aosp or sense Rom? Either one ics won't allow third party apps to write to the apn xml file. But here are a couple solutions. On sense you can download msl reader and get your msl code. Once you get that code go into your dialer dial ##3242# and punch in your code under edit. Once you do that click on advanced, go to the bottom of page where your mms settings are located. If you know the setrings, edit the settings to your liking. However if its aosp, you will need to make a copy of your apn file. It's located in system/etc folder if you didn't know. Place it in your pc. Use notepad to edit the settings and save it. Copy it back onto your sdcard. Then copy it back into the folder and set the default permissions for the file and reboot. If that don't work try go sms as an alternative until devs fix the issue.

[Q] Updating Evo

So ill start by saying I've been scouring the internet all night and I'm confused as hell. I have had the Evo LTE since day one, rooted it the same day and have not updated it since. I am on S-On, 1.13.651.1, hboot 1.12 and have twrp 2.3.1.0. I want to update to the latest version, radios and everything, what is the best way to do this without bricking my phone and keeping root? The stock rom is fine for me I just need root.

First of all you have missed a couple firmware updates, but since you are s-on you need to update using a RUU head to vipeRuu thread and follow the script instructions, then unlock again using htc dev, install twrp and then flash supersu and busy box, you will be s-on, unlocked and rooted on stock. Navigation doesn't work on some jelly bean roms on some phones, it just crashes, no fix as of today, use telenav, waze or scout. Good luck!

Then you can update your firmware/radios
There is no need to run an RUU unless you need to go back to stock reason being you don't really want to update your hboot

yes you can root with out s-off but why not S-off of the ability is out there? S-off gives you unbridled access to your system for better of worse. Though you may be S-off you don't have to use it, but if you need it and don't have it then your screwed. Then you have to go through the entire process all over again. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This thread is a perfect example. He wants to upgrade his radio not impossible with s-on but far more difficult. When I updated my radio I just flashed the .zip file like a rom. No need to rename files place them In the root directory yada yada yada. Just my opinion.

By the way I'm not bagging you over it. Simply saying the phone came out in June last year S-off has been available since July the same year. A year later there are three versions that do the same thing. Good on you for realizing s-off needed to be obtained. Once you are s-off there is nothing that will keep you from truly manipulating your phone any way you desire.

yes you can root with out s-off but why not S-off of the ability is out there? S-off gives you unbridled access to your system for better of worse. Though you may be S-off you don't have to use it, but if you need it and don't have it then your screwed. Then you have to go through the entire process all over again. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This thread is a perfect example. He wants to upgrade his radio not impossible with s-on but far more difficult. When I updated my radio I just flashed the .zip file like a rom. No need to rename files place them In the root directory yada yada yada. Just my opinion.

Yeah, i rooted the phone the day i got it, the only thing available at the time was s-on. Phone was/is running great, but i noticed i'm 4 updates behind and i have started seeing 4g in my area so i though it would be a good time to update the radios. Thanks for the suggestions guys, i got s-off now and going to try to update later.

[Q] GSM ROM Troubles

A friend of mine has given me his phone to fix and it's in a state, i'm at a loss at what to do now.
This problem is:
He tried to flash a new rom (it was rooted, S-ON and Hboot 1.53) he got stuck on a boot loop but the clever sod decided not to do a backup before the flash. He is now in bootloop without a Rom in sight that i can find to flash it.
Every other thread I have looked at has got broken links in so that's why i'm making a new thread for it. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Have you tried re-rooting and s-off, downgrading hboot And all that? (Start a fresh)
thisis50.com if its hot its here
I had that same problem before. What i did was flash an RUU exe file. Search for it here. This time be sure he makes back-up before flashing another custom rom and also better if you do s-off and hboot downgrade if you wanna flash jb or sense 4 above. Only sense 3.6 roms and gb worked for me when i had s-on.

Check for your specific carrier's RUU here. You also need to install htc drivers for the pc to see your phone.
Iv'e downloaded (and installed) both the drivers and the RUU, but every time i go to launch it, it comes up with the phone not found.
any suggestions?
Edit: Iv'e got it to recognize the device but now its saying "The ROM Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again"
This is the correct utility though?

Did you download the right RUU that was originally installed on the phone or at least know which carrier you're with? Also make sure you download shooter_u if you have gsm phone and shooter if you have cdma.

Yeah, it's for the Vodafone carrier so i downloaded the corresponding RUU, i also made sure its the "ShooterU" one too, i'm at a loss again haha.
with your hboot you'll need an ICS RUU. unfortunately there isnt one for vodafone. your best bet would be to flash 4EXT recovery, turn on smartflash and then install a rom that can boot on 1.53 hboot (I'd recommend Yoda ICS as its known to boot on 1.53 s-on)
yeah.. as I said from previous post if youre having a hard time with Ruu exes. flash a sense 3.6 rom or Gb rom. it should work.

Upgrading hboot

Can someone give me clear instructions how to update hboot and what to download. I am currently on latest radio but I have original 1.15 realse and 1.33 hbot. I would like to run kit kat sense 5 rom but I am afraid I will brick my phone trying ro update hboot. Will this erase everything on my phone to original? Any help on this would be appreciated! Thank you!

Scratch that found it http://www.mediafire.com/download/zugtur969c30jn6/PL83IMG - 3.06 hboot.zip
either way RUU 3.06 will install the correct hboot and latest radio

But RUU'ing will also erase your whole device too, unless that is the intention
