[Q] Bell Z Ultra 4.3 updating - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Ok, so after waiting a couple of weeks for an update from Bell since Sony released the firmware, I've decided to take the updating process into my own hands. Coming from a Nexus 4, waiting for updates is something that kind of frustrates me, so here is my questions:
I understand that the model bell has is the c6806. Now, will I run into problems trying to flash the stock Sony firmware from Bell's bloatwared up edition? Also, do I need a custom recovery, or can I keep stock? I really don't want to unlock my bootloader because it's taken me ages to download all the software and files I wanted... unless I do a backup, I suppose.

I also have a Z ultra from Bell and I updated manually following these instructions without issue. Just download the FTF from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921. Pick model C6806 GENERIC US.
Then follow these instructions to flash using "Flashtools" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428319
You don't need to download the XZU device folder because it's already incliuded in the new installation.
You don't need to unlock bootloader since it's from Sony but you won't be able to root your device and you will lost all your data. Except if you uncheck "Wipe Data" in Flashtools software, be it may decrease stability.
Hope this help.

OMG WAIT DON'T UPGRADE YET. I need your FTF files, because I want to downgrade to 4.2.2, I need root for everything, like my PS3 Controller for touch emulation, to get rid of the navigation bar etc etc.
So please can you extract your FTF files from your Bell Device and send it to me !!!! PLEASE !!!!!

Forget about what I said, I fixed it and BTW I just received the .290 via OTA, so you should have it now !!

LOL
Did you tried to keep root with supersu survival mode? And if so, did it work?

After hearing fo all the problems the .290 update brings (seemingly,) I think I will wait for kitkat. 4.3 jellybean isn't enough of an upgrade to justify the issues it will bring, or to lose root. KitKat definitely will be, though.

Meh, I tried but OTA failed installing each time. It fails at the begin of the install, phone reboots and tells me that it could not install the update. Probably because I have Dual Recovery and I debloated the rom ...... Oh well ... loll I'll probably try a factory reset and try the OTA again. I mean I have a nand backup anyway
I'll keep you posted

Ok I tried a factory reset and it didn't work either, the progress bar reach near middle than it reboots. I bought the app for OTA survival but can't test it cauz I can't OTA ..... still trying to figure it out.

.532?
That OTA is for .257 then. That is 4.2 Not 4.3.
You could find it in BASKOU his CDMA thread. But really doesn't matter which CDMA you use. As long it is matching. The excellent guide from Lord can also help you further. You should defenitly have a look overthere.

Hum I'm positive that it's 4.3 take a look. I'm gonna take a look at his thread thanks

Yeah, that's 4.3 Surpises me that you can update straight from 4.1 to 4.3. But thinking it over, it makes sense.

Oddly enough, I have yet to get the ota for 4.3. Been checking multiple times a day. Hopefully I don't run into issues, since I did root/ Detroit.

I received the ota because my cda product Id was changed when I flashed the Us retail. 532 so that's why you didn't receive it the build.prop you send me wasn't the same as what I had.
Sent from my C6806 using xda app-developers app

OTA is live, I however failed to update mine. Guessing it has to do with me debloating :/ Anyone know of a workaround?
EDIT: PC companion worked! If you run into the same issue, just use your PC

If you downgraded to .532 then
Flash this .532 ftf to avoid IMEI loss
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=2476#downloads
I'm guessing that you've downgraded from 290 to 532? If so, update to 290 again. This problem won't go away by itself. It'a a baseband thing. It got updated with the ROM when you updated to 290, so it seems like it's not compatible with earlier builds, and that's why we're ending up with no IMEIs when we downgrade.
It'll work again once you update to 290 again.

This 532 ROM should fix your problem. Flash it using Flashtool. No root or unlocked bootloader is needed.

Check my post above yours (with the link). Just flash it using Flashtool and you'll be fine.
It's almost 4 AM here now, so i'm going to bed. I have Tapatalk notifications enabled though, so i'll catch your new posts in bed if there are any
i will try it. i hope this can fix my problem thanks a bunch. let you know ( lord )
You do that. I'm going to bed now, so be sure to quote my posts from now on, so i get notifications from Tapatalk. Can't guarantee that i'm awake 5 minutes from now, but we'll see. NUT's 532 ROM should work fine though (the one i linked).

I don't know what would have happened to your ZU and the only thing I would suggest is to flash [NUT]'s rom that lordmanhatton linked to. This will wipe any userdata so back up stuff (should leave photos/music etc I think) but you will lose passwords/wifi keys/account settings/etc
I so want to quote lordmanhatton and wake him up...
got it. thanks
I want to give thanks to LORDMAN. and every body for your help. I've got my phone working again by flashing with flashtool. just like you toll me LORD Thanks again.

can someone provide flashable zip for AT&T lollipop 5.0.2?
Could you please suggest a simple process to update AT&T LG G2 D800 running D80020y to Lollipop?
I was able to find the official Lollipop .zip file (LGD800_Android_Lollipop_D800.zip) for D800 on LG's website but wondering how to install it. The file is 0.98GB in size which is apparently a FULL ROM.

Oh, thanks for the info. So, the device needs to be rooted to proceed with this procedure?
I request you to add all the steps here at one place required to update from 20y to Lollipop on D800 by installing the OTA manually. The steps there look pretty confusing there.
Also, I'm unable to download the file from Mediafire. On clicking 'Authorize Download', it reloads the same page.

Might there be anyone here able and willing to update my stock G3 to Nougat, or at least Marshmallow, for a fee of course? I'm intimidated by the process as described here.

I was on ZVF when I rooted too. Here's what I did:
1. Root LS990 ZVF Via Lg one click tool
2. Flashed TWRP via TWRP Manager from play store (make sure you flash the TWRP for LS990)
3. Flashed marshmallow ROM and Gapps
That's pretty much it it didn't take long to complete that whole process
Local or by mail - either way.

Att hasn't switched to 5 yet the latest firmware is still 4 , I went from u firmware to att and sideload the oreo update still in bootloader 4 so I am able to go back to other firmware with ease ,but no root for oero so far the eng boot img doesn't work on oreo and haven't seen one yet , also there is no OEM unlock in dev options as we may still never get an unlocked bootloader with the two step boot that I've read oero has but the oreo firmware is nice seems like s8 though and Bixby is working ,but I would wait on official firmware ,so var sprint and Verizon are locking bootloaders so we can't switch carriers which we legal can do , so I'm assuming other companies are to follow

I have frp off but it's setup. Should i factory reset before trying to flash to u1 or does it not matter? I tried rb7 but it failed. Also i noticed while trying to flash it didn't load ap very well. Normally it freezes for a sec while verifying but it instantly added. Maybe a bad download? I'm downloading rbg now which is an md5 so maybe that was an issue before because the rb7 wasn't. I'll see if that works. Just a lil worried about going to a version 1 bootloader from version 2 as i read that wasn't possible. Hoping for the best. Thanks for the help

Flashing u1 roms aren't working. Tried several times with different cables etc... Odin fail, (auth) complete write fail. I think I'm stuck til this gets a real solution or unlocked rom gets bootloader v2 or becomes unlockable then maybe it'll work? If anyone comes up with a solution please post. Thanks

Thanks

Oh you on V2 bootloader, well you are stuck on it because U1 is on V1. Currently only T-Mobile and AT&T have V2 firmware out so you can try flashing in between.
Am on U firmware 2ARD3 but am pure stock without carrier bloatware.
What are you trying to achieve with the T-Mobile userdata?

I have the same question as OP. What would I accomplish by flashing the T-Mobile V2 U firmware as opposed to the most recent U1? Is there anything I can't manually enable while staying on unlocked? I don't want to go to the V2 bootloader if I don't have to for the time being, at least until we see an unlocked V2 version.

The U1 is pure stock, I personally would stay on it..
The carrier U firmware are just full of bloatware and also contains the userdata for that specific carrier so that some features work properly like voice over LTE etc. If that doesn't bother you then stay on your version because there isn't any V2 bootloader for the U1 firmware

I definitely want those features, is there a way to enable them while on U1? I don't want bloat, but to my understand T-Mobile's bloat isn't too bad.

Well you can flash the T-Mobile userdata file from the U firmware onto your U1 and get the features. As to the bloatware you can disable most of them with bk package disabler :fingers-crossed:

The userdata from the latest one with the V2 bootloader? And then the U1 RB7?

Well I assume you already running the U1 firmware, so you only need to flash the userdata from the U firmware.
Use the userdata from the V1 firmware for T-Mobile, use modded Odin and flash the userdata and you should have T-Mobile features :good:

I'll give that a try. I might just say the hell with it and go full T-Mobile. I assume the next U1 will be on the V2 bootloader.

Lol the U1 are the last to get updates.
Currently the U firmware is on April patch while the U1 is still on February patch

You would see Service provider SW ver. with some information like ATT/TMB/ATT

I'm a T-Mobile post paid with unlimited everything but mainly wifi calling in areas where reception isn't great is pretty important. Also would like direct video, HD vice, and especially VoLte working. Since all the carrier software is in the user data I just want to have the T-Mobile in place of the att. Phone works well otherwise and I can live with it the way it is for a bit til it gets sorted out. But hopefully there will be an unlocked v2 firmware soon that will flash. Or bootloader unlock!
