[Q] On AoCP 7.0 KitKat - Missing Google Play Music setting - External SD Storage - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey guys. I don't have enough rep to post on the development forums, so help if you're able!
I'm on AoCP 7.0 KitKat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132220)
I don't see the new Google Play Music settings for External SD Storage. Within the 'Download' section of settings, I've read that KitKat versions of the app should allow you to set storage to be on the external SD. I don't see the option.
I'd rather not look for the work around (which I know exists) if I can just figure out what the problem is.
Any suggestions?

Just checked this as well on my Captivate running AoCP 7.0 and the option is not there either.
Buy on my at&t sgs3 running Stock Android 4.1.2 with Root, the option is there for either external or internal storage location.
So it appears that the Captivate and i777 are not on the list of "(Experimental support on some older devices)"...as stated in the apps change log.

I read the Google change log as 'This update is available for all KitKat devices, as well as some JB&ICS devices, which are considered experimental.

Has anyone had other KitKat roms on their i777 that allows them to use this 'external sd card storage' feature in Google Music? It's an incredibly intriguing feature to me.

This likely refers to "official" KK roms, not custom ones.

I'll just have to assume that. Luckily, there is a work-around. I'll try that. Thanks guys. :good::good:
EDIT: The work around is driving me crazy. Can anyone relate? Will this feature work on CM for the i777? External woes... external woes...

GAPPS is the only other thing the dev suggested getting. As of this posting, nothing else in that thread is required by the dev (in fact, the other files were uploaded by other users, not the dev).

So ever since I flashed The Hybrid I have not tried any other roms, absolutely love it. I was just wondering, what is this rom? Its rather confusing because it seems like a theme on top of the Unofficial...am I wrong? What cool features does it have?

This is AOSP. Though, I believe it is ported, not built from source completely.
There is zero Samsung crap on it. Every time I get a phone, I wait for this to be made for it.
Check out CyanogenMod.com for more info. It's da best!

It is not a theme. Here's the official Cyanogenmod site, should have plenty of info. Basically it's an AOSP base with tweaks from some of the most active android devs around.

It is, essentially, a full CM ROM. However, it is not an official release - the OP compiled and threw together the necessary pieces for this to run on the i717. A lot of the source code is still on the development branch of the repository, so things are expected to be broken. That said, this is surprisingly stable for what it is.
That is awesome. I will flash it and give it a go soon. Thanks

Spotify is not running fine unless you have an sdcard installed. It's not DPI related, it has to do with the internal storage being mapped to /emmc instead of /sdcard. If you run an app with this release that requires additional storage on the /sdcard then it will not run properly. Try downloading anything from the default browser, running dropbox etc - you will get errors.
Great news on the official CM front:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26340143
Just curious - for those who have problems with the sdcard setup in this ROM, have you tried Settings -> Storage -> (Menu) -> Storage Configuration -> Use Internal Storage (Make sure it's checked)
Not sure if that will do anything to help, but let me know.
Thanks for starting this thread, the 'how do i turn on the lights, how do i change the buttons...' in the dev section were getting redundant. Anyway, I have a new build on my device.
Fixes sdcard / emmc mount bug.
Fixes basic s-pen usability (sensativity / mouse-pointer)
Latest repository sync + more experimental stuff from TeamChopsticks
Honestly there's not much to fix with this thing (other than the camera), yeah there are a few bugs here and there but for me it's a DD.
Now I'm just waiting on the new ICS leak (UCLE3) that was said to be coming yesterday (I see the build date was actually Thu May 17 03:17:57 KST 2012) - because my in my current build the camera subsystem is broken.
If it takes too much longer, I'll roll it up with UCLD3 and see if it floats.

cannot select "USB Mass Storage" with CM9

Hi everyone !
i have using a Samsung Galaxy S3 for one month now... and Cyanogenmod 9 for 2 weeks already.
I know about it since i have already been using Cyanogenmod for a year and a hlf on my previous phone.
My problem is very simple :
when i connect my phone to the computer, i have a screen asking me to choose a conexion type :
- MTP
- PTP
- UMS
the problem is that the last one (USB Mass Storage) is greyed out and i cannot choose it !!??
i have been searching xda forums without success about it...
My microSD is formatted in FAT32 (exFAT does not work with cyanogen)
My question now :
can anybody tell me if it works for him ? (galaxy s3 + CM9RC2 or nightly + FAT32 microSD + windows + UMS)
thanks a lot !
and thanks for the amazing work done by cyanogen team...
no answer ??
come on guys !
- samsung Galaxy s3 => best phone ever
- cyanogenmod => best rom
so i am shure we are a lot using this config !
still : have a nice day !

i think samsung may have done the most stupid mistake and remove kernel support, its not on stock firmware either
Try the SGS3 Easy UMS. Search XDA.
thanks for your answers, but :
- easy UMS is meant for stock roms and derivates... which is not the case regarding CM.
so if anybody using SGS3 + CM9 could check on his phone, please confirm me !
here is what it should look like :
http :// img.tapatalk.com/bef6d0b6-a992-883a.jpg
but for me, third option is greyed... so i cannot select it...
thks

No USB Mass-Storage is part of ICS, not Samsung phones.
It doesn't work for me either, maybe it's not supported yet?
I am running CM9 too and UMS works every now and then. ES File explorer seems to continuously scan the extsd though so sometimes it takes a couple of tries until it's mounted

well... in fact, according to what i've read, ICS does include UMS... but only for external SD cards...
Anyway, the fact that the option is visible in the usb share screen in cyanogen makes me think that it is/will be a part of CM.
therefore the question is :
- do my phone has a problem ?
- or is it a future option that CM team is currently developping ? (and yet not finished ?)
But Samusung definitely did not want us to get it...
PS : i just installed the latest nightly build of CM9 (android 4.0.4) on a galaxy S2 and i get UMS ! (through an 'android 2.3 style' usb share screen)

At least in CM10 Preview the kernel modules are present but it does not react to the commands.
It works just fine on my Galaxy SII (i777) running cm9. And it mounts both the internal and external SD cards in mass storage mode. However, I have a galaxy tab 10.1 that the option is also grayed out on. I am guessing each device has different drivers associated with UMS which may be why it isn't working on all devices yet. But, it definitely is not a problem in CM9... More the device it sits on.

[4.1.2][JB][STOCK] Stock Jelly Bean Korean Port v2 (01/30/13)

This is a compilation between me, houstonn and SnowLeopardJB. (Be sure to thank them!) It is stock jellybean 4.1.2 with a little modification. You do NOT need to do any special modifications/conversions to install this. Just flash in CLOCKWORKMOD only (twrp will not work). It will automatically change your language to english but the keyboard will still contain some korean characters. To change that go to settings>>language and input>>languages>>unselect korean (make sure ONLY english is selected and you will have all english)
Features:
- rooted
- busybox
- most stock bloat included
- LTE works
- access to all internal sdcard (16GB)
- access to external sdcard works now
- Google Now
- 3.4 kernel
- astro file manager as a system app

internal sdcard works fine. just no external sdcard. unfortunately since korean model doesnt include an external sdcard the kernel was compiled without this feature.
I know, I call internal sd "internal nand" and external sd card "sd card". I just thought perhaps it should be in the OP. Thank you guys very much for getting this thing together.

Yeah I can't use a ROM that doesn't support external SD, so I'm stuck on stock remixes until jb source drops .
I have a lot of street and topo maps in addition to a bunch of mp3's and portable mass storage (exFAT ftw) that necessitate a 64GB SD card. I just wish phone manufacturers would load devices up with hundreds of GB worth of flash because NAND flash memory has gotten so freaking cheap that it would add next to nothing to the Bill o' Materials.

I should have been more clear. What I meant was the zip file on your internal sd card prior to flash is smaller. I dont have and extended Micro SD card yet so my Space once I do a backup is very limited.

This might sound stupid, but I was having issues myself using a USB cable other than the one that they gave new in the box. My only thoughts are, being that its USB 3.0, some of the cheaper knock off USB cables I have, must not be able to send enough power for the device.

Just download another stock and dump the APKs you want into the /system/apps/ directory.
BTW, I don't know what happened after I went to bed but the download links seem to be fine now, sorry for any issues.
I've never created a rom install with Aroma, but would it be difficult to set up an installer to permit the selection of certain items some may not consider "bloat"? I can always backup all the system apps, and then restore whatever I want, but it may make things a bit easier. Thanks for this btw, downloading now!

So does this mean that all international ROMs should work with our device? Pretty sure the hardware is identical (although I might be wrong - correct me if I am) so I see no reason why they wouldn't. Would love some insight from someone with more knowledge, however.

Are you on that rom? I read all the pages and it looks promising. Wanna hear some feedback from T-Mo users

Yes I am currently running the Omega v1.3 rom
I am running it and it works Absolutely perfectly! If anyone is also having a problem with Shealth working after installing Xposed it seems to fix it. Just a few warning thought that I thought I would post.
1) After flashing it will flash all your internal storage - Backup everything first, Also I would move the zip to an external Sdcard before flashing.
2) Even if you select no wipe in aroma while upgrading, it still seems to wipe everything including your internal storage.

Thank you.

I apologize I just thought that people would look under the rom section instead of the general for working roms. I also thought that maybe a dev or master chef might want to use it for their roms Again I apologize and thank you for moving it to the correct section.

No worries, not the end of the world[emoji6]
For future reference, if you ported it it could go in development, just a cool find like this would go here[emoji106]

Sweeet! I ran a few Int'l Roms on my Note 3 also. I edited the updater script so that it wouldn't format the internal storage.

Yeah, I was thinking about trying to get permissions of a few international roms to try and alter the upater script and edit a few things to make them more compatible with the us roms.
There are several INT'L ROMs that work great with TMO USA S5.
Just look Here:

No need to "port"
Just flash it!
I'm assuming that WIFI calling does NOT work with this ROM, correct?

Wifi calling is a tmobile specific addition, so won't be included in international roms.

I have flashed EVERY ROM that has been posted on the International S5 threads and they all work with the TMOBILE S5
Alliance Rom is phenomenal - Omega is great - so is Echo - The only thing yoiu have to get used to is that you lose WiFi calling. I am using a TMOBILE S5 on the ATT network so it doesn't matter to me anyway - ATT doesn't support WiFi calling - but to be honest, the benefits of flahsing these roms far outweighs the benefits of Wifi Calling. (IMHO anyway)
NO special steps are needed - EXCEPT - when you flash an International ROM be prepared - they do usually wipe the Internal SD card. So make a back up of the important files (like Titanium Backup for example)
while we wait for TMO development to get underway - at least you have a few very good roms you can play with.
Good luck and happy flashing!
Hey guys, just posted the first (very basic) version of my project infinity Rom in the development forum. It is based on the t mobile framework, not international, so has WiFi calling etc. I plan to update it quite a bit. Also, it doesn't wipe the SD card upon install.

Any plans to get flash working?
I am downloading the ROM, so far it looks good and I did not want to lose the wi-fi calling options so I've held off on the other ROMs so far.
