Android 4.4 - Wi-Fi is intermittent, buffering, dropping connections on Nexus devices - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I've recently upgraded my Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 all to Android 4.4 and as soon as I upgraded my Wi-Fi has been awful.
The Wi-Fi is incredibly unstable, steaming media has major buffering / intermittency issues, messages sent over instant messaging apps are sometimes instant and sometimes take 30+ seconds to send.
Skype is the most telling of the issues as it randomly loses connection and my notifications literally never come through...

I've tried Channels, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11
I've also tried adding
Code:
gDataInactivityTimeout=200
to the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file as found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300873
Wi-Fi is Always On, Wi-Fi Frequency is Auto or 2.4, Wi-Fi Optimization is Off.
The wireless / wifi works fine on other tablets, laptops and wireless devices just my nexus devices on 4.4
Anyone got any ideas?

I think this logcat has everything "confidential" replaced however if anyone does find something please tell me, I've replaced my email with xxxx.xxxx and my usernames with xxxx

MTU Value is at Auto (1492, which my ISP recommends) although I've tried alternative numbers but still no luck.

Try the WiFi Keep Alive app from the Playstore and select Always On.
I know you already have this setting picked but I had the same issue and this solved it for me.
Good luck.

I just installed three different versions of Wi-Fi Keep Alive, the first one has 3 normal options then like 5 workarounds.
I'm trying the normal mode at the moment, so far so good it hasn't disconnected me YET

I picked always on + first workaround.
It worked great and haven't changed it since. That's 3 weeks now and it hasn't dropped out once
Hope that helped you.

Thanks, I'll keep trying as on my Nexus 4 it is playing up with just always on, I'm trying the workarounds.
Anyone else got any suggestions?

I may have found a temporary quick fix for bluetooth problems on CM based ROMs

Myself and many others have had crippling issues with bluetooth on CM-based roms and it has gone unfixed for a long time. Bluetooth suddenly just stops working. The icon disappears from the notification menu, and if you try to turn it on, it appears to turn on for a fraction of a millisecond and then shuts off. Rebooting doesn't fix it. Clearing cache from safe strap does fix it (temporarily), but it's a pain in the ass and takes a long time.
This has happened to me both in CM 10.1 and Carbon, and it happens about once a day. Once every two if I'm lucky.
Today I managed to restore bluetooth completely by simply force closing the "Bluetooth Share" app. I did tap "Clear Cache" first in the app's settings, but it didn't appear to do anything (cache remained at 12KB), so I don't know if that step is required. Bluetooth was immediately restored and the icon immediately reappeared in my notification bar. Why this worked but rebooting doesn't is beyond me. I would think since all apps get shut down on reboot, that a reboot would have the same effect... who knows.
Anyway, I just thought I would share my discovery with other frustrated Razr owners. I have only tried it once, but I will update this thread next time I attempt this and post my results.
1st Attempt: Success
2nd Attempt: ??? (will test without clearing app cache)
3rd Attempt: ???
If this does indeed work consistently, it may be possible to create a bandaid fix for this whereby an app running in the background constantly checks to see if bluetooth is turned on, and if not, executes a force close on the app, automatically bringing bluetooth back up.

Minor wifi annoyance after 4.3 upgrade

First, I flashed Beans 4.3 OTA leak then his official 4.3, and both worked perfect. No random reboots or fc's. Then I just installed Sophisticated 2.0, and again no issues.
Other than the fact I keep getting a notification saying my wifi connected to my network even though it was already connected, and I always have it set to keep wifi on during sleep.
I tried searching, but couldn't find anything that sounded like my issue. I attached a screenshot of the notification I get at least a few times a day.

That is an annoyance, but thankfully one that can (newly) be turned off. Go to settings, wifi, advanced and uncheck 'wi-fi notifications'.

Thank you so much. It wasn't really a big deal, more annoying than anything. Coming from 4.1.2 I never had that, but that had that stupid wifi always in the notification panel.

(Sorry for the late reply - missed the notification on the forums.)
Glad to help - I've always hated that ongoing alert in the stock ROM. It's great to have an option to turn it off.

[Q] G3 Not Getting Push Notifications

Hey, XDA.
I looked around but I couldn't find a similar thread about this.
Back a couple weeks ago, Verizon pushed out the not-so-official-but-it-exists-for-you-to-download VS98523C firmware and I put it on my G3 through the LG Flash tool and it works flawlessly...except for one part...
It seems that when I connect to WiFi, I instantly stop getting push notifications (i.e. no email, WhatsApp, GroupMe, Wunderlist, etc... alerts). But, when I connect back to 4G, I instantly get a barrage of the 'missed' notification from when I was on WiFi.
Also, it's not my WiFi network at home, I've reset my router/AP multiple times, tried different networks, different configurations to no avail.
I was wondering if anyone had the same issue and if there was a fix out there.
If there already is and I still don't know how to read, I'd be more than happy to get a link to it.
Thanks!
Are you living in some type of time warp?

[Q] Tmobile S5 on AT&T

I bought a pre-owned T-mobile S5 to use on AT&T. I've sim-unlocked it, rooted it, installed CM12 on it. However I keep losing service. This is NOT an AT&T issue, as the tablet sitting next to it is on AT&T and works flawlessly. Do I need to flash a new modem? Or do something else to make this work closer to flawlessly? I already searched the forums and couldn't find anyone with my problem.
Thanks in advance.
Possibly you have to edit the APN settings. I did a small thread on what you need to do to use a Tmobile s5 on AT&T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help/tips-using-g900t-att-t2975336
Thanks, I assume when I inserted the sim card, the APN info was loaded, as I've not touched that part, and it's already on my phone. That doesn't seem to be my issue. Any other suggestions?
I've been having the same issue for months. I went back to a stock rom and recently came back to AOSP, but I forgot I was having constant signal drop.

I am having the same issue. Can you tell me what modem/rom are working the best for you? Thanks!
Solution!
My particular solution does require xposed and gravity box module.
I noticed that the cell signal issues only happen when I'm connected to WiFi.
I created a tasker profile that toggles mobile data off when wifi is on and changes the data mode to 3G only. I used the toggle data 5.0 plugin (see for details) in tasker to toggle to change to 3G.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I then used the gravity box "change network type" action (see for details) to change network back to LTE and I used the toggle data 5.0 plugin to turn data back on when WiFi is disconnected. I guess this would be the end task?
I took a screenshot a couple hours ago of the result. Not one signal drop in 3 or so hours. I'm no expert in tasker, and these are the exact steps I followed.
I was having a similar issue with CM12.1 on AT&T using the G900T I actually posted on their forums about it: http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/106617-lte-issues-cm12-tmobile/ however it looks like they're has been any resolution..I had no issues running stock, and when I installed BlissPop (CM Based) I had no issues at all.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them out.

No you have to edit the Apn often times.

Issues with wifi on motorola g7 power

Hello everyone!
I have a Motorola g7 power xt1955-4 reteu2.
In the last two months, I got an issue with my wifi connectivity. My phone is Connected to the hotspot of another smartphone. And it frequently disconnects from wifi. It works after I turn off and then turn back on the wifi.
But I have to do this each time.
I uploaded two screenshots, to see how my wifi menu looks like.
I did a network reset.
I uploaded two bugreports.
And the issue is the same on motorola g7 power.
Besides, I connected to my hotspot another device (a computer with wifi usb), alongside motorola g7. When my motorola wifi got disconnected again, the wifi icon from my computer showed no problem.
Which means the issue is only at motorola wifi, not the hotspot.
As I remember, it only has this issue since the last update.
Besides the wifi issue, I remember that two times my phone stopped responding and I needed to restart it.
It is updated to the last version, I think.
I have build number QPOS30.52-29-7-5
What would you suggest?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

I did that. Both are off.
But the issue is the same.
My motorola sometimes reconnects itself after a minute or two.
What do I need to do to solve this issue?
Hello, do you have this issue with every internet connection or only on a certain one?
