Unfortunately I think you're only reading what you want to hear. The Note 1 is no longer supported. It will not receive an official update anymore. The page you link to is referring to a custom rom based on android 4.4 kit kat. Check out this link. It says what samsung devices will be getting the update and when.
Here's the gist of it:
First Batch of Recipients
Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are expected to get Android 4.4 KitKat firsthand and will directly benefit from various new system enhancements and improvements.
Second Batch of Recipients
After Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 received their updates, two former flagship devices will follow - the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2
Excluded Devices
Sadly, there are several popular devices too excluded from Android 4.4 KitKat update and it includes Galaxy S2, Galaxy S, Galaxy Note 1, Galaxy S2 Mini and Galaxy Minis. Due to the 18-month update window strictly followed by manufacturers, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S and Galaxy Note 1 are unable to receive any further updates but owners may resort to custom ROMs to get latest features. Galaxy Minis are unable to receive such upgrades due to hardware issues or incompatibility to the upcoming version of TouchWiz UI.
Sorry for the bad news.

There you go. No ics for ace and s.
Well it's not, they just said which one will be upgraded first. They did not specifically say that ace won't be upgraded.
So, in short.. it's still up in the air.

yeah thats the case ......
if you read samsungs official things they haven't mentioned anything which cnet is saying...
if they upgrade only 2 phones then i see they will loose number 1 spot in 2012 which they gained in 2011....as most of owners would go crazy on upgrades
Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow
The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.

From what i understand it's not still up in the air. S2 and note will be the first to be upgraded but the whole list of phones to be upgraded is this one:: the Galaxy R, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 8.9, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (the dual-core variant of the 7.0) and the Galaxy S2 LTE
To be honest i was not hoping for an official update for the ace but it's weird that galaxy s, galaxy s plus and w won't get an update

Samsung phones that have KitKat?

So I've been phoning Samsung and Google. They didn't tell me nothing as much as what phones from the mid speced phones will receive the chocolaty update. Google did say that they have given the update to samsung to choose which phones will be given the update and samsung said they are working on the phones they know will run and fully support the update. As far as I can gather phones with 1GB + Ram and Expanded storage
So to my conclusion here's a list of mid range phones that will get the update.
Galaxy S4 + mini
Galaxy S3 + mini
Galaxy S2 (mayb not so sure)
Ace 3
Ace 2
Galaxy Fame
Note 2
Note 3
What I don't understand is they say that some phone wont support the update although the Fame with Rubbish specs was made with JellyBean and that was a bigger update then KitKat

[Q]Samsung Galaxy S5 or Motorola Nexus 6 or Suggest

Hello
I was a happy owner of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and I sold it yesterday but it was too big for my palm
Now I would like to buy a new phone and I cannot decide which one.
I am between Galaxy S5 and Nexus 6 and I cannot make up my mind.
To be honest I'm tired of Samsung Phones, I started with Samsung Galaxy S GT9000, then S2 then Galaxy Core then Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3 and I'm really tired of Samsung and I hate Knox which voids your warranty if you install a custom rom or you modify your system and the Samsung Bloatware
However the phones were masterpieces in terms of performance and the support of custom roms was magnificent and S5 would be at least that good.
I'm really excited with Nexus 6 because Nexus devices are known for their Clean Android experience, the instant updates and Nexus 6 will be a high end experience.
I would like your suggestions and help me decide which phone should I buy.
Also please, if you have any other phone to recommend, please do so, I would like to check it out
200% you can go for nexus6 ....
Samsung never gives update at proper time like nexus devices
For every android version Samsung plan new device and for pushing new device they delays updates for old one
But nexus is not like that within some days you will get update when gogle release new firmware
Custom ROM support for nexus devices is great compared to that of Samsung devices .....only thing that nexus devices will not have some advanced touch wiz features like note series has .....

I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note 2 and I have the Nexus 5 since November, 2013.
I recommend you the Nexus 6 as your next device. Why? Because the price-quality ratio is awesome, no bloatwares, no Knox, the latest Android versions, the best UX I have ever seen and a wonderful XDA community

My Gear S paired with

There seems to be little consistency on to which phone will actualy work with Samsung Gear Manager paired with the Gear S.
Samsung own words on the matter seems to be "Samsung phone with Android 4.3 or later", but let's be honest, one could ask Samsung the same question twise, and get three answers back. I should think the voice of this community would give a better indication on what works and not.
Could someone with permissions greate a sticky thread for this, so we could fill in phone model, maker, firmware, watch firmware and Samsung Gear Manager version. Along with a description on that experience.
Sprint Galaxy S5 (stock root) - 4.4.2
Gear S (Sprint variant) - R750PVPU1ANJ7
Gear Manager - 2.2.14102499
GS is running as I had hoped it would. For my needs/wants, its a great experience. Only problem I have is with email. Im unable to compose email. But I can reply. I just need 4.4.4 on my S5 and it will work. But this fix is not high on my priority at all.

If you have a Samsung device (phone or tablet) that is 4.3 and above and not compatible with your Gear S, chime in on their FB support page. Maybe Samsung is not even aware of these issues.
phone model: Note II
firmware: 4.4.2
watch firmware: r750tuvu1anj7 (t-mo version)
Samsung Gear Manager version: 2.2.14110499
Seems to be fully compatible.
Hmmm
All Galaxy phones running "official" 4.3+" are guaranteed to work, it's just that the available features will depend on your connected phone's model, and various versions of the required software on your phone as well.
To compile a full list of who has what phone and what does and doesn't work would be a massive undertaking!
I agree, they shouldn't limit some features to some Galaxy phones and their respective Android versions. But it's stated clearly in the manual and in the promo materials.
Note II (VZW): SCH-i605
Android Firmware: 4.4.2 (R3ds ROM)
Gear S: AT&T version
Gear Manager: 2.2.141102499
Samsung/Galaxy Apps store (this matters too): 14093005.02.008.1

Well, yesterday I contacted Samsung support spesificly on the Young 2(SM-G130H) - 3.5", Android 4.4.2, BT, WLAN, GPS, Cheap:
"Shure. No problem. Android 4.3 or newer"
So I went to the store today and tried apps.samsung.com/gear (URL from the frontpage of Gear S the quickguide) from the Young 2:
"this devices does not support Gear. "
Well, my contribution is that the Young 2 doesn't work
disclaimer: yes, I know the Young 2 is garbage, but I only wanted it for firmware update, syncronise contacts, transfere apps and music. Nothing fancy.

Cannot always go by what a Samsung Rep may say. Same goes for many carrier reps.
For optimum performance/connectivity, you'll need newer and much advanced Samsung Phone. Using older/cheaper devices will more thank likely not work (or be very limited in use).

Lollipop for Grand 2

Samsung has done an excellent job delivering the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Galaxy S5, turning a new page in the book of Software Updates. We already know that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be provided to all the galaxy flagship devices including the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, but it seems that Samsung might be planning to show a little love to its mid range galaxy owners also. In a new report from our sources at Samsung, it has been indicated that Five Mid Range devices are also being considered for the Lollipop 5.0 update. The devices that were lucky enough to make it are – Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Note 3 Neo, Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Mega 2 and Galaxy Grand Prime.

If Samsung releases Android 5.0, then I might be the king of the UK as well.
No, Sammy won't.
Dismiss the rumors. Does anybody remember the rumored Sammy Poland list showing the Grand 1 as a candidate for a 4.4.x update?
Forget it.
We needed it

nice our prime will get lollipop
My sm-g7105 hasn't received the 4.4 update yet.
Do you think the touchwiz nature ux 2.5 would be upgraded to 3.0?
So guys, now there shouldn't be any hopes left of getting an official lollipop update.

great ... lollipop is an excellent version of Android ... we hope you will reaffirm this here ....
24.80 mb update fixed the bugs but no lollipop for grand 2
Guys 24.80 mb update was a clever update by samsung as they were planning for big os upgrade for this device but due to huge number of devices releasing every year, hence they were unable to provide the upgrade and just sorted the bugs with this minor update. You may say its the last grand 2 update. Here is the source website:https://www.justaboutphones.com/sams...ate-cancelled/
