Sprint Launches Open Software Platform

FYI
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/081209/20081209005354.html?.v=1
Sprint Launches Open Software Platform at Eighth Annual Application Developer Conference to Help Millions More Developers Create Products for Sprint Customers
The Sprint platform is an open, standards-based mobile Java ecosystem that extends desktop computing and Web 2.0 capabilities to devices operating on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. To get started, developers can access the full suite of Sprint Titan development resources at http://developer.sprint.com. It is the first of several open software platforms that Sprint will make available to developers.
The platform supports existing MIDP Java ME applications and adds the more capable CDC/Foundation Java Virtual Machine and OSGi framework for new high-capability applications. Support for the Eclipse embedded Rich Client (eRCP) application model means the platform can run generically written rich GUI applications across a broad range of devices and desktop computers. Support for the Widget application model provides Web developers the ability to develop rich Web applications that take full advantage of the device’s functionality. This allows developers to easily move Eclipse-based or Web applications from the desktop to Sprint devices. The platform also includes APIs to give developers access to Sprint-specific device features, such as location, messaging and multimedia, which can be useful in a variety of business- and consumer-oriented applications, such as field service or unified messaging.
As part of today’s launch, the platform is available with its own set of developer tools that plug in to Eclipse IDE and support both mobile and non-mobile application development and deployment. The toolset leverages existing server or desktop frameworks and provides on-device debugging and profiling, along with device emulation.
For enterprise customers, the open platform leverages the same JAVA application development framework that many customers already use for desktops and servers. This means applications can be easily extended to Sprint wireless devices with little resource training or additional investment beyond what is already in place today. In addition to extending enterprise applications to the mobile environment, the platform enables device management functionality so account administrators can remotely manage their devices and applications.
I hope I get to see more great apps on my Mogul!
Did you see this in the release notes?
"When installed, Sprint Titan uses roughly 10 MB of Program memory on your device. An additional 4MB may be required for the MIDP stack which is started when it is used for the first time. Using a lot of applications on top of both stacks may lead to vastly more required Program memory as the applications load resources. It is hard to determine the memory used by one single application since it can use a wide variety of available APIs and resources. You may experience low memory availability using Titan along
with other Windows Mobile applications on devices with less or equal to 48 MB of program memory (almost half of which is already used by the Windows Mobile OS and its standard services at device startup)."
No way I'm installing it.
I don't see why someone wouldn't just develop native win32 apps for windows mobile devices. Can't we already run java apps with jeodek?

Take your media to the next level...

MediaBrowser is more than a media manager. It's a powerful open-source platform that you can use to manage, view, play and control your media on most mainstream hardware...
MediaBrowser consists of a server and any one or more of many clients to view and manage your multimedia collection. You are able to enjoy your TV, Movies, Music, E-Books, Games* and Emulators* around your house in a wonderful 10 foot interface. (*games and emulators can only be run on a machine on which it is installed)
The MediaBrowser Android, WindowsPhone 7/8 and Windows 8.1 clients connect to your MediaBrowser server and allow you to consume your media anywhere you are connected. (Playback not supported on WP7, only library and remote functions)
Don't have MediaBrowser? Visit http://www.mediabrowser3.com/
But wait!? You said open-source? but this is in the paid section?
Yes, while the MediaBrowser server and other clients are built on free open-source systems, the android, and windows phone, and windows 8 client applications are not. These 3 clients are the only of many pieces that require any type of purchase to use, if you choose to do so. Read on, and find out about the many other free open-source parts of MediaBrowser.

So what exactly is MediaBrowser?
Media Browser, beginning with version 3, is no longer a single program. It encompasses a large suite of applications all communicating with a central server that manages your library.
No longer locked inside Windows Media Center, Media Browser can now bring your entire media library to not only all of the computers on your network, but also many of your portable devices. Whether it's the Roku in the living room, or your tablet on the back porch, Media Browser will bring your media right to you.
And, we mean right to you as the user profile feature allows you to set up completely different views and options on your library based on who is accessing it. Keep different display styles, parental control levels and watched and favorite status' for all the different members of your household and all of that information travels with the user no matter what client or device they are using.
Start watching something at home on the HTPC and pick it back up where you left off on your phone or tablet on the train.

A little History on MediaBrowser?
Some of you may remember VideoBrowser which eventually matured into MediaBrowser and was solely a Windows Media Centre Plugin which allowed a user to display rich and detailed information about their media collections much like other available media front ends. The benefits of using MediaBrowser were having Live TV readily available and a large media collection in the same application. It then started allowing themeing and plugins to enhance the media experience?
MediaBrowser has come on leaps and bounds within the last year or so. Firstly, it’s no longer confined to Windows Media Centre, it’s undergone a complete overhaul, complete recoding and opened up a world of new beginnings for the HTPC world, where the community is always listening to improve the MediaBrowser experience as a whole to the end user.

So What’s Changed? Out with the old in with the new!
MediaBrowser now has a brain, a central nervous system which uses its Server Application and currently runs on your Windows based PC or even your server(Linux/Mono server is currently under development). The server is the hub of all things to do with your media collection, from Movies to Music Videos, Books to Games, MB has it all and allows the user to organise and categorize their collections as they deem fit for their use and application. Furthermore, it allows almost any device to connect to it from anywhere, such as Android, Windows Phone, iOS, Roku, Sky’s NowTV box, your favourite web browser, and standalone applications such as MediaBrowser Theatre, Windows 8 and still MediaBrowser Classic(WMC integration). These are all refered to as Apps/Clients within the MB world.

Collection Organization - Metadata Compatibility with Plex & XBMC
The Server and what it does for you?
The server runs on the PC where your media collection is or has fast access to, such as NAS drives, Everything is in place to automatically collect the right metadata information for your media collections including all the art that fanart.tv provides, it stores all this artwork in your item’s folder but can be edited from the metadata manager within the web dashboard. What’s beautiful about MB is that if you use MediaPortal, XBMC, Plex then MB is intelligent enough to understand the metadata structures for those front ends and also integrate with them. We now have many users using MB-Server and XBMC Front End. The server has the right amount of configuration available to not daunt a new comer to the HTPC world and can leave the settings at default, where as a power user can get stuck in and, tweak things the way they want their metadata scraped and saved.
The screen shots below show just how easy it is to edit images and the selection available that MB recognizes and uses.
At the moment, our server currently only runs on windows, however, a linux/OSx mono based server is under development. If you are an experienced Linux/osx dev, and would like to help out or join our team please feel free to stop by this thread here!

Apps and Accessing the Servers Content
Think about the Apps like shoppers in a mall, where the mall is the MB-Server and the MB-Apps are the customers, shopping around for things they like or want to see. It seems appropriate to call them these as that’s exactly what these MB-Apps do. Just about any handheld device, pad, laptop or pc can access the server using a dedicated app or access via a web browser, which in my eyes make life easy.

There has been a long standing partnership with MB and fanart.tv and MB would like to commend them on their hard work over the years and may it continue. I feel it’s only fair that there should be some screen shots to wet your appetite. These Screenshots have been taken from MB-Classic and show just how beautiful fanart has helped to make themes like Subdued(An MBClassic Theme) look beautiful.

Newly supported:
Live TV
We now support live tv through the use of a modular service provider system. You'll need to install a service provider plugin, and at launch we have one, ServerWMC. We'd like to thank krustyreturns for being a part of this.
A next pvr plugin is also in development, and we also have a few more on our wish list - Argus TV, DVBViewer and DVBLink. If you would like to get involved and help develop one of these plugins, please let us know.
So let's get down to live tv. You have the ability to view the guide, watch a channel, and full recording management capabilities. And the web client design is responsive so that you can use it on your smartphone to schedule a recording when you're not home.

Assistance Customizing UI/Features for an Andrioid open source Python based app

Hello Developer Community,
I am presently using a bluetooth home automation device from a company called Plugable. The device is being controlled by a stock/default Android app provided by Plugable in Google Play. After testing the product, I realized I wanted a hour:minute:second count down style timer and presets features added to what Plugable describes as a completely customizable open source application.
I am not a programmer, so I was wondering if someone would be willing to take a look at the open source code to see if the features I want can be built into the open source app and be willing to design a new UI layout that would be more appealing(features that look similar to Control 4 Android app available in Google Play.) I am open to any new app development and program design as long as the device can communicate in the manner intended by Plugable.
If anyone feels my request is practical, I would be willing to pay a fair value for your time and service. I would need to also start this project ASAP. And I mean ASAP!
You can find more information about Plugable-BTAPS Python Library for Creating Custom Applications with the Plugable PS-BTAPS1 and the Bluetooth Home Automation Device on Plugable's website.
Thank you for your time and assistance anyone can provide.

How to start making Windows 10 Mobile Apps (with unlocked capabilities)

1. Learn a supported programming language: I would recommend learning C# (since there are more resources available for it for UWP development).
C# Tutorial Series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jeDwO-4rIw&list=PLm-PcOa0HEDbnEdssI8lFgeY9NjI9u6RN
2. Learn how to make UWP apps: You would need to learn how to design the apps and how to code specifically for UWP
UWP Tutorial Series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiaUzO72tqE&list=PLi2hbezQRVS0cPMeW3uDlUHnO_rPvJCV9
3. You are free to do anything you want now: Feel free to experiment with APIs you find in the Microsoft Docs and stuff you find online.
4. Unrestricted freedom: When you submit your app to the Microsoft Store, you have to meet requirements which limit what your app is allowed to do. However, you are free to share packages that use those restricted capabilities. With those capabilities, I was able to create things like the Third Party app store, app installer, app launcher etc. You could potentially make your own third-party versions of the stock apps with these.
Here is a list of capabilities with namespaces related to them. (The restricted ones are further down): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/packaging/app-capability-declarations
By creating more amazing apps, you make the community even better! Thank you
P.S. Please make this sticky, this would really help newcomers and make this forum even better!
Shameless plug to my app installer lol: https://forum.xda-developers.com/wi...d-games/uwp-app-launcher-source-code-t3667562
Do you have apps on the windows store?
Yes. I've made apps like: Pomodoro Timer UWP and Audio Trimmer UWP

Free Miner Android SDK

Hello,
Already for 6 months we are successfully working on the new way of monetization and Ad-less UX of websites with the help of mining in the browser. At the request of our partners, we have developed SDK for mining in Android mobile applications.
The kit allows easily to embed the miner in the application. The code of the miner is specially optimized for the android devices CPU for more effective mining
We will be glad to free share our developments of SDK for Android. If you want to join our beta test - welcome. Leave a message or your questions in this thread.
Android In-App VS Website Mining
The Mineralt team run tests and came to an interesting conclusion that the same mobile device CPU shows a larger hashrate, if it uses Mineralt Android SDK. In other words, monetization of mobile applications on Android with the mining is more profitable than monetization of sites and their mobile audience.
You can see results in our blog https:// mineralt.io/blog/why-is-it-more-profitable-to-use-mobile-miner-android-sdk/
