AOKP and ART? - AOKP Q&A

Hey all!
I'm running the latest nightly hammerhead aokp and it seems it's unable to set it to ART, it stays on dalviq.
Is this temporary (as I imagine that it is designed not to allow ART at this time) or will aokp be able to run on ART later?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Make sure you don't use xposed.

Oh, is xposed preventing ART? There's no way of that working on ART then I take it, but AOKP does?
Thanks yet again MarcLandis!

tried today to get ART and remove xposed in the process but it wont seem to work...
tried uninstalling xposed from the installer, tried to flash the xposed-disable-recovery zip, tried mkdir /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/disabled.
all of those things seem to disable xposed and its modules but it still just ignores my selection of ART in settings and ends up as dalvic when its rebooted.
What am I doing wrong? and how is one supposed to get it done?
EDIT: got it working, had to disable persistence in rom control and then flash aokp.

Clean flash or dirty??Tried clearing cache, fixing permissions? Have you tried uninstalling re-installing?? Did you check the music folder settings to make sure the correct folders are checked?
I did a dirty flash at first but went back to do a clean one. I have checked the music folder and uninstalled it. I will try fixing permission and other things

after you clean flashed did you restore power amp from titanium backup or fresh install?
Restored it from titanium backup but then I deleted it because it wasn't working. But it still didn't work. I tried clearing my cache didn't do anything. How do I fix the permissions on the app?

you can fix permissions in whatever recovery you are using...twrp or cwr.
best bet may be to un-install it, reboot to recovery, wipe caches, fix permissions, reboot, re-install fresh from the playstore. That should definitely get you running. If not, you may have a bigger issue other than just power amp.
So I tried that and it did not work. I am running beans 12 with blue cheez theme and the addon for it

Not sure what else to suggest. I've never run the blue cheez theme so maybe something with the theme is conflicting. You could try a clean flash of B12 and install power amp first and see if it opens before adding any themes or mods, maybe narrow it down that way. Aside from that I'm out of suggestions but hope you get it. I'm a longtime power amp user and would have a hard time switching
Good luck
I've dirty flashed Beans 12 and I use PowerAmp with no problems. I don't use any theme, though.

I'm on Saber and was on beans stock but I've never had an issue with any kernel and power amp(on any rom or device)
Just to be clear, when you are "clean flashing" you are wiping all including cache, data, and system correct?
Yes doing all of the steps. Everytime I click it to use it. It just shows the poweramp screen and then goes to whatever I was doing before

I gave up on PowerAmp myself.
I have the paid version & have never had the slightest problem before with it in many different phone/rom/kernel setups.
Now, running the Beans ROM (v2)/Perseus kernel setup listed in my sig, I can't get PA to display the song list panel anymore.
It will show my music folder on my 64gig card, but on the screen where it should say "songs" that listing is not even there.
I tried everything from fixing permissions, deleting & reinstalling the newest version from the playstore etc. etc.etc. and absolutely NOTHING worked.
It's really weird because both JetAudio & the stock music player work perfectly, so I finally said F it and deleted PA and use one of those apps.
My son is also a long time PA user (he has a Galaxy 3) and he told me has gotten away from using it lately also as some of the latest versions where giving him annoying FC and freezup problems and JetAudio works perfectly for him also.

Yeah, this has a few more tweaks than nottach so far, and some that didn't work before (Quick Setting tile number wouldn't work on my MF3 I337) are working now. Anyone is safe to install and tweak away as long as you're on stock/tw.
EDIT: nottach xposed does have a few more than this at the moment, I was wrong. Specifcally the full battery and headset notification I've noticed so far.
I'm not sure if this is related but after installing this i noticed my mobile connection would randomly switch to h+ in settings. I rebooted and got the padlock. Booted fine still and noticed an extra battery icon. I only enabled the module and looked at the options without checking or changing anything.
Uninstalled and rebooted. No padlock, no extra icon. Goldeneye MH1 with only scrolling cache and call record add ons.
So I really want to try this out but I have a quick question. As of right now im on MF3 and I am planning on rooting my phone. The only think I would like to be able to do is to have lockscreen widgets on my device while having security enabled such as a pattern lock or password. Will this give me the option to do just that?

The extra icon does sound like something that a tweak/app like this can be responsible for.
Whether it's a one-time glitch or a bug that will recur, who knows.

Can you run more than one module that offer similar functionality? Such as wannam and nottach, without causing problems? Which modules takes precedence?

3minit isn't much of an option since you have to flash the framework and we can't through recovery (I think there is an app to flash without recovery, but it's risky business.)

I know it's not supposed to work. I wasn't expecting it to work. But I tried it anyways.
Slim Bean AOSP 4.3 ROM + Xposed + Wanam all seemed to install fine.
But a reboot or two later, before even selecting any option changes, ended up getting to where it refused to boot into the OS. Even after a factory reset.
Don't jump me, I know it wasn't *supposed* to work.
Guess I just confirmed that for the rest of the 4.3 AOSP guys?

CM11 keeps freezing

The 12/27 nightly was running along finely for a couple of hours, changing settings and such. It froze after i changed a ringtone and now itll freeze after every bootup and sometimes it wont wake up. Then it will freeze within 1 minute after unlocking the phone. I correctly wiped/flashed everything cm11 coming from cm10.2 with latest kk-gapps and the latest ktoonz kernel. any ideas?
any know?

Iflashed Kernel hoping the freezing would stop
Bump!
I'm facing the same issue with my Note 2 here. I flashed it using TWRP 2.7. Does anyone know if this makes a difference?
As CM 11 20140328 basically made my phone useless I wanted to switsch to Omnirom. As i did a full wipe and installed it, the phone crashed every few minutes. The display stood on though and pive wallpapers were still moving. So I went back to the latest CM 11 nightley and now my Phone keeps crashimg every few hours. But its just like with Omni. Display keeps on and stuff but I cant do anything. Im running Boeffla 2.2 kernelnand TWRP 2.7. I actualpy switched to TWRP because I thought it could help.

Optimizing apps

Every time i reboot i get the "android is updating, optimizing apps" screen. Is this an effect of the xposed framework and is it necessary that occurs every time i reboot? Its kinda starting to get annoying. Thanks in advance for the replies.

No that's not needed everytime you reboot. Xposed itself shouldn't be doing it. Are you running any mods that are wiping Dalvic cache on every reboot?
Sent from my unknown using Tapatalk
Im running the wanam module. Is that what's causing it? It only optimizes 62 apps on startup. When i use safestrap to wipe dalvik it then optimizes 250+apps.

Well I can't be certain really. Maybe it'd be worth disabling whatever modules you are running and rebooting to see what happens. I'd try doing that then possibly going into SS and clearing all caches again. Reboot once more with modules disabled and see. At least then you may be able to rule xposed out. I haven't used wanam in a while so I don't know it there's an option that describes what you're going through.

One of the modified Wallet hacks did that to my phone. The APK was deodexed so it triggered the "android is updating" every boot IIRC.

Changing runtime to ART

When I go to developer options and change the runtime from Dalvik to ART it does not work. It asks me to reboot, after reboot it says it's still using Dalvik. Any ideas?
If you are using Xposed, it will not switch over. Xposed only runs on dalvik runtime. I uninstalled Xposed and still could not switch back over and had to format and start over.

Damn, the main thing I use on Xposed is the G3 Tweakbox, which I actually really like. Is switching to ART worth it?
I guess it just depends on how you use your phone. I bought the G3 Tweakbox app. I used it and found the same ART, Dalvik issue. The only reason I'm running ART is basically to test it out and see if I like how it handles. Xposed should support ART once Android "L" is released.
Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
I personally prefer the advantages of Xposed and G3 Tweaksbox. When I ran ART before we had root, my phone did appear to be smoother, but certain chromecast apps wouldn't work and I had freezing and rebooting issues.
ART and xposed should work sometime after the full release of android L.
