Need more information.
Are you unlocked, S-on or S-off?
Is the device rooted?
Hard to help with the information at hand.
If you can boot into android, go to play store, download GOO.Manager and "install open recovery script." That should get you a working TWRP recovery.

i am showing s-off with cid 11111111 rooted with rum runner....but im not sure what my current status is with since the crap hit the fan

Check in bootloader, See if you're still Unlocked S-off.
If so you can re-install a recovery.

i now have the tampered flag and showing re-locked...but it was showing re-locked when i last had a successful recovery/rom running
is my bootloader in fact re-locked ( im guessing the reason i keep getting remote not allowed)
i cant seem to find an unlock method that will work... HTCDEV = no good / cant run apk for obvious reasons ( cant boot my baby lol)

All you gotta do is rerun rumrunner.

Well there's your problem.
Might want to ask someone here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919
Or, over in the Rumrunnner thread.
Might be a simple command in adb to re-unlock, not sure.
We are out of my realm of knowledge at this point. Sorry I can''t be of more help. Good luck, I hope you get it figured out.

that gives me an error as if i dont have debugging enabled

Thanks for chiming in thayl0,

like i said, the ONLY thing i can successfully flash is firmware which is what i dont understand . if i can flash that , wth not recovery? btw im trying to flash recovery clockworkmod 6.0.4.5 . could i be trying to flash a recovery not compatible with firmware?

If you are re-locked you will not be able to do anything.
That's where you gotta start. I think thayl0 may be right. Try re-running Rumrunner.
Once you are unlocked, then you will able to install a recovery+++

finally got it fixed! i had to FIND the correct RUU for the firmware im assuming... also by flashing the stock hboot you guys pointed me to. thanks and if anyone else comes across this problem i suggest taking the time to make sure you have compatible RUU and/or other files they r trying to flash. thanks again guys

You cannot downgrade with S-on, flash the MR1
Try to dl the ruu again on your computer. Check the md5sum after its done. Pull the SD card from your phone and user a card reader to put the new file on it (delete the old first obviously) then try again

Hey I had a similar issue with my phone, first question does it give you a error on the Hboot screen saying security error? secondly it sounds like and correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like you probably had root and then used a full signed ruu to downgrade and if you did thats why your stuck at the moment. If that is what you did I am pretty sure you can recover from that so not all is lost. I am unclear on the exact steps your going to need to do to recover because the issue like the previous post says is that you cannot downgrade and if you flashed the mr1 ruu there is no newer version to flash to that is actually signed. Your next step is to go to the forum for thunderbolts in the general section and find the live chat (should be the first sticky), you want to talk to either Jcase or Adrenaline as they are best prepared with the knowledge to recover your device. I hope this helps at least get you pointed in the right direction.

That's exactly what I did. I am getting a pink "security warning" on the Hboot screen as well.
To recap...I was running Tesla 1.7 upgraded to GB then tried downgrading by doing a complete reversion, using the MR1 custom ruu (like in the sticky)...that's where I got stuck. thanks for the help.

Im not a noob so by me having experience I tried to do a few things to fix it. First I tried cache wiping and it didnt work. Next I tried to back up, wipe phone, then restore and that didnt work as well and after doing that, now I can't get pass the first HTC screen. Anyone, PLEASE shed some light. This is very fustrating.

Guess its time to head over to feenode #revolutionary. The Devs are hanging around there.
I think its the stock Rom. I've tried to backup and restore but ever since I wiped my data I can't get past the the splash screen. Im downloading a Rom to flash that I found in the dev section. If that doesn't work I'm going to try the RUU thing. Im made because the only thing I have to work with is a hero, and it downloads **** so slow. You'll get it back up and running. If you're downloading the TI-X rom by dc13, you're going to want to hold off on flashing that for now. He said it won't flash yet, and he's working on fixing it. If you're not talking about that one, then nevermind. I would think that running an RUU would fix it, but I'm not quite sure yet if there is anything you need to do before running the RUU, as far as the bootloader goes.

ok, off to bed. got it working.
RUU 1-15 version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092957
get the ZIP, not exe. i tried exe and it failed.
-rename file to PC86IMG.zip
-boot into bootloader, ruu will work itself.
boot back into stock rom.
-you will still have S-OFF, but i could not flash custom recovery. HBOOT looks like it reverted. trying to fastboot cwm/twrp recoveries failed.
-re s-off using rev (didnt fail even though i had S-OFF already, prev failed when i tried to rerun rev having S-OFF)
-HBOOT got changed to new version thru rev S-OFF
-was able to flash twrp using fastboot. tried cwm, worked. went back to twrp recovery.
-flashed fixed su zip (to enable root) and was able to boot back into stock rom.
-tested titanium, works.
-tested autokiller, works.
thanks for the help guys.

Sorry for sounding like a n00b and redundancy but just wanted to make sure I understand this right before I make any changes on device.
The relocker posted by xboarder and binary, does that completely reverse the HTC bootloader unlock done the HTC dev site?
Assuming it does, that does mean we can get the regular updates to device again?
Sorry again if is redundant but just want to make sure there is a 100% way of returning to stock software very much like my vibrant / g2 / hd2

ok... IF you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader the first thing you need to do is download the stock rom and install it to the ROOT of your sdcard under the name PG86IMG.zip the reboot into your hboot screen, done by holding the volume down button and then the power button...it will start to load this new file... follow the prompts to allow it it to install fully... then frokm there let it boot up once.... then shut it down and reboot into your hboot again then relock your bootloader via the fastboot methid and then reboot again... from there you can update fully to HTC's roms and updates and then redo the procedure of unlocking your boot loader and then installing superuser....any other questions feel free to ask ill be up for awhile tonight....

Since you are s-on just lock your bootloader If you are unlocked , and use the latest 2.17 RUU.exe....then unlock again...and root it.
the reason i gave a list of thiungs to do is bc i dont have my hands on your phone... you stated you have s-on... you should if you have 1.5 bc you cant turn that off... above that though your phone should say *unlocked* you need to set it back to say *relocked*
and you mus also make sure the recovery you have is the factory one... if you have twrp or clockmod for a recovery you will end up erroring out when the phone reboots and tries to install it... and if that happens youll end up having to flash the rest to get it to boot again

This has them all, but These are STOCK roms without root, they do not contain super user or busybox or anything, so you will lose root, you shouldn't have to re-lock to update though... it should just let you update it, this is going to wipe out whatever your current rom is.
You probably want something more like an already rooted rom though...

KitKat OTA

Now that we have our own specific forum, would it be plausible to get some sort of step-by-step guide on how to go about installing the KitKat OTA if you're rooted? In browsing through the megathread from before, I get the impression that I will need to flash the stock recovery and relock my bootloader, then unlock once again once I've updated, but the thread itself is a bit daunting and the advice is pretty well scattered amid the various conversations there. Can we get some sort of consolidated guide from someone more knowledgeable than myself?
(Thank you in advance, by the way. I know I will be highly appreciative.)

If you have the different partition layout that was introduced with the KitKat update, and also have the upgraded HBOOT then I guess i'll write up this guide. To get the phone back in proper working order, you need to do this.
1) Make sure you have the HTC drivers installed, and HTC Sync Manager fully uninstalled. ADB/Fastboot and such in working order, etc.
2) Download the KitKat OTA ZIP from Duir's Drive Folder here https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B-kSF8g8H7KudEFRU1hPMjRObU0&export=download and open it up and take out firmware.zip
3) Get into HBOOT on the phone, and flash that firmware.zip file by running fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and also run fastboot flash update firmware.zip both will say FAIL but for me that worked if that didn't work then relock your device by running fastboot oem lock and then get back to fastboot and run fastboot oem rebootRUU (case-sensitive) and then issue fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and also run fastboot flash update firmware.zip and reboot to fastboot again
4) If you had to relock your device unlock it by getting your Unlock_code.bin from HTCdev and issue this command when you're in fastboot which is fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
5) download Duir's TWRP recovery built for KitKat which is located here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-kSF8g8H7KuME12ai1OVHVqd3M&usp=sharing grab the openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-zaracl.img and then flash that by issuing fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-zaracl.img
6) Boot up into recovery, and format Data middle button on the right and type in 'Yes' and then wipe everything (you might have to reboot back into recovery again and then wipe everything) The reason to format Data using that button is because of KitKat remapping the partitions
7) Grab the KitKat TWRP backup from here https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8-7I2_Vt73ldUNPd2c4X0xoQXc/edit
8) while that downloads make a pseudo backup, and then when thats finished mount your SDcard and open up the KitKat TWRP backup on windows and just overwrite all the files in zara_cl442/zara_cl442 and then reboot back into recovery again.
9) Restore the Backup you made and overwrote with the KitKat TWRP backup
10) go into fastboot and go back to Duir's drive located here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-kSF8g8H7KuME12ai1OVHVqd3M&usp=sharing and grab KK_stock_boot.img and then flash that by issuing fastboot flash boot KK_stock_boot.img in a command prompt
11) Reboot into the System and it should work

Kit Kat OTA
That seems really complicated and sort of risky. Can't we just restore stock recovery and boot. Relock boot loader. And then install the ota as downloaded.

That's what I was wondering. I'm alright with re-rooting afterward (and after that I'm going S-OFF so I can use Viper4Android).
On a side note, has anyone noticed higher battery consumption with KitKat? My wife (who is unrooted and generally doesn't mess with her phone) updated and her battery died twice yesterday with no real increase in usage.

Read the instructions http://rumrunner.us/instructions/ then download rumrunner 0.5.0 under "htc universal downloads" and run it as administrator
The only thing I changed on my phone was gain root, unlock bootloader and flash Philz Touch cwm recovery. I haven't gotten s-off or changed H-boot. I don't want to change anything else if I don't have to. Is there anyway to get the update. I don't care if I lose root.

U should get s-off then flash stock recovery, unroot ur device and relock the bootloader then update kk by tapping "system updates" in settings or run the ruu to get everything back to stock. S-off wont be affected

Alright I'll try that when I get home and let you know how it goes. Thanks a bunch.
Alright. So it didn't work. It works fine at first but at about 40% through the update it shows a red exclamation mark inside a red triangle on the phone. I unrooted and flashed the stock recovery from the development thread on the new forum. The jelly bean one. And relocked the
Bootloader. Ugh. This is really frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to get rid of s-off as well. That's fine if I do.
