I'm currently running SlimKat 4.4.2 ROM on my trusty old S2 19100, my issue is i hate the standard email client that came with it (Email 4.4.2) and therefore have tried to change it for one from an early ROM (SIV Series 2.05) which is a JB ROM and ran Email 4.0 and Exchange 4.1
I have deleted both Email and Exchange apks from system\apps
rebooted
replaced with SecEmail and SecExchange apks extracted from the older ROM
updated permissions
rebooted
cleared data on both
even wiped data with TBackup
rebooted
Every time i get force close error messages
I have tried 3 variants of the files i want, clean extract from the original ROM zip file, copied from a backup of the older working ROM and Tbackup copy.
I used a copy of the files from this post;

and it all worked fine the only difference being it is Email 4.1.2 rather than Email 4.0 which i want.
What am i doing wrong, can i not have Email 4.0 which was running fine on JB 4.1.2 on KitKat 4.4.?

Perhaps 4.4 on your device. Are you using the ART runtime? This may cause issues with certain apps.

To be honest i'm not sure, it wouldn't be me that would change the runtime it would be the developers of the ROM, for sure it's using Dalvik, but i don't profess to be anything other than an enthusiastic user, not a developer. :highfive:

I have double checked my current ROM and noticed that under developer options it shows the runtime as Dalvik, with the option to choose ART, as i know nothing about ART i am not prepared to just click and play. Therefore i will go off and read what i can about ART, i'm not sure after a couple of hours of reading i will be much the wiser , but i'll give it a go.

OK guys, here are the basics:
Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 in Taiwan
Running SuperNexus-I9300-Build5-20121017 Android 4.1.2
Modem GT-I9300
Kernel 3.0.31-CM-g95661c3
TSF Shell running on top
CWM Ver 6+
Rom Manager from CWM
What I am trying to do:
Upgrade to Paranoid android maguro 3.15-28MAR Rom (Android 4.2.2)
What I have done:
-cleared all the cache as recommended via XDA (including DELVIK)
-Run the install of the zip file from internal SD Card (also tried from external)
-tried installing from Rom Manager
-tried repeated installs, one after the other,
-checked to make sure that I had the latest build of CWM
-flashed CWM from Rom Manager
-tried install again
-restored backup and tried install again.
-searched XDA's website for a clue to an answer
-I do have the associated gapps but don't get a chance to install them as I can't install the ROM.
All these steps and hours of reading and I still keep getting the "status 7 error"
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Features
This is the official 4.2.2 update from Samsung, XXCMH3, for the GT-N5110. This is the UK release, but its all the same as long as the model numbers match up.
I've only added Busybox, SuperSU, Adobe Flash, and AdFree.
Kernel: adb unsecure (adb as root, no need to type su).
This can be used as a base for other ROMs.

MH2 was the leak. MH3 is official. But..... from what I can tell the only difference is the build number.

Battery life for me is the same, if not better. Personally can't tell a difference. And yes, flash is working in the stock browser as per the OP. :good:
Quick Question. Is the ability to use lockscreen widgets and have a password on your device working at the same time? I know this us still an issue in other roms.

I'm running this Rooted with Civ's Kernel @ 1,800 MHz .. and it's PERFECTION..
You can freeze any of Touchwiz/Samsung bloat apps you don't want.. Install any of the cool apps requiring root but, still have full functionality of the S-Pen ( and all S-Pen Apps/Gestures etc ) and keep the cool apps like IR Blaster, Muti-View etc.. and be 100% Rock Stable with EVERYTHING working... Like a Stock ROM Should be.....

Wireless n functionality with this rom in the us?
Does anyone know if this rom will have the full wireless n ability? I did root and install civ's and lost my wireless n. I have also read through some of the threads about 5ghz and changing a few things in the etc file and they have not worked for me.

Hi, Can you post the link to the Civ's kernel that you flashed? the only thread I could find was for 4.1.2. If I flash this ROM in the Thread, will I be able to Flash Civ's kernel at a later stage?

You can flash over top if you want, but id recommend the latest update uefmi1 or xxcmi1.

Hi all,
I want to install the samsung's browser in pac-man rom as I found out that the saved pages from samsung's borwser is not compatible with the AOSP one, so i have to use samsung's to access those pages.
I've tried to replace the apk in system/app directly (yes, I have pay attention on the permission), modify and flash a zip file which was used to replace the samsung's to AOSP (just change the apk inside, of course, resigned) , have also wipe the cache and dalvik cache
Anyony have other ideas?

No you can't use a Samsung browser or any other app from Samsung in a AOSP rom.
Those apps need the touchwiz framework so won't work on AOSP.

I would doubt that you can install the framework in PAC, you need a Samsung based rom.

heh, It's on the list sent one back. Gotta look and see what the 500 is using for the screen. If it's synaptics, this might be difficult. Also working on remote and overclock, but those may take a while. Glad to see you got your system up and running!
just downloaded and installed the odexed version. Everything works as it should and I'm very pleased with what I'm finding. Thank you for your excellent work. I have also installed my kernel and the system is now blazing fast!

I tried.. and it shows "Successfully flashed!" but my device didn't reboot
so i take it the V510 model is the device dubbed Google Edition right?
and this rom can only be flashed on that device?
the other global variant, V500 models - this rom will Not work?

Help with sync
Problem: Google Calendar "can't find any calendars to sync".
I just bought a used V510 on swappa. Flashed the deodexed version of this ROM. Everything is fine with it except above issue. Also, in settings I am getting a Google Sync error. When I expand the sync, I see app data, chrome, Contacts, Drive, gmail, And people details. All of these show successful sync. But there is no box/choice for calendar.
Suggestion appreciated.
Edit: I tried numerous "fixes" from a Google search. Clearing cache for calender, contacts, enable/disable airplane mode, log out of Google account/reboot/log back in. Uninstall calender and reinstall. None of that worked. Finally I did a dirty flash of PA gapps and that solved the problem. Not clear why that fixed it, though.

4.4.3 is set to be released and it may be neccesary to be completely stock for the update. Also, the update may present problems concerning root for some applications. Thank you for your consideration!

I've noticed the same problem with Google Calendar not syncing
edit: I did the same thing and flashed a gapps zip. Fixed the issue, hopefully this can be fixed in future updates.

S2 I9100 Ported Rom by i98
Hello,
I have taken a galaxy s2 rom (neatrom extralite) and made an attempt to port it to the galaxy player 5.0 yp-g70.
The rom might still not be bootable but I appreciate your comments and if you could please provide a logcat to see what the problem is.

Before I flashed the zip I did full wipe including data/dalvik cache/system..My ROM.zip was on external sd...after few seconds it said successful..and when I tried to reboot it says no Os installed
I also tried with different recovery which is cmw v6.0.2.8

Man I would love to try this ROM. Just tried latest carbon ROM with the double2wake feature and it is awesome. Related to lg g2 feature.

Thank you for your feedback, I will try to fix the symlinking problem asap.

Hello,
I will try porting the rom using another base but I don't have enough time as I've got exams coming up and I have to study for them.I may start working on the update in mid October.
I have fixed the symlinking problwm but the rom is still not bootable, what do you think is more stable and has less bugs cm10 or cm10.1, if cm10.1's the answer I may try porting the s2 plus 4.2.2 rom and it is probable that it may be bootable or at least get to the bootanimation.

4.1.2:s2 i9100: different build:still got the symlinking error for some reason after various attempts
4.2.2:s2 plus i9105: got a set_perm error, took a look at the log says that some files are not present even though they are
4.4.4:s3 i9305 version:apparantly I'm getting an error that it can't partition a non mk... device
I'm not giving up, I'm still going to try other bases to see if I can't get one to install and boot successfully.

It seems that this project isn't making any progress, so I may try making my touchwiz fusion rom for the player(obviously there would be improvements) that is if any user would like it to happen.

The s5 recent apps is complete, I tried adding tw recent app buttons, the buttons worked but the clear all button was higher than the others for some weird reason, I tried changing the height but that didn't work, I can leave the task manager button or the clear all one if anyone wants,I have attached a photo below showing the recent apps panel and the case the buttons are in, so if you want the task manager button or clear all button then tell me which one you want to keep or if you don't want anyone, button background will be changed to the s5 one later(that is if anyone wants it).

Hii, I have a question so I went to the thread and I was looking through out the op it says Its ROM for galaxy S2 ..its a touchwiz ROM I never heard of it..so if you can help to underatand how does it work on galaxy player 5.0

No, it's actually a cm11 rom modded to look like touchwiz in the galaxy s2,since I made the rom for the s2, I can apply the same mods to the system apks for the most stable kitkat 4.4 build I can find.So it'll be like the s2 version of the rom but with some improvements.

No don't download the rom, it is developed specifically for the galaxy s2, I'll make a version for the player 5.0 soon, but I said that it's easier to make this rom for the player 5.0 than porting a touchwiz rom.
