About Samsung HDMI MHL adapter - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I got it today and works brilliant. However even small movement of the adapter makes noise like something is shaking inside. Can you tell me if your adapters do the same crackling sound?

I did not have this issue when I had it. I had bought 2 different ones at different times, and used about 3-4 others while at work. All of them were solid as a rock. No moving parts or sound of moving parts.

Mine has this issue and it works and has worked for some time now.
I got mine back when I had an S4, so it's been working for over 6 months

Can you post which one you got?

I got mine off ebay so the listing is gone by now but the description was: MHL 2.0 AV HDMI HDTV Adapter Cable ET-H10FAUWEGWW
Works without having to plug in an external power source. Tested on Galaxy S3, S4, Note 3.
Though when I used it on the S3 I did plug the power source in because we were streaming a really long movie and the phone wasn't charged fully.

Jep I bought that one too. Will arrive this week or next week. I'll let you know how it worked out for me. I really need this badly

I don't have any 1080p content. I did play 720p without any issues

I need to get one of thoses...

I bought one over the Christmas break, and turned out it was fake, so I sent it back and they sent me a real one. Before returning the fake one I took some comparison pictures side-by-side, and can tell you exactly what it should look like. The real one is very sturdy compared to the fake one.

What do you mean by sturdy? Can you a bit more clear?

when you squeeze the body of the device, the plastic gives a little bit. When you squeeze the real one, it does not give. This is probably because it actually has the proper components within, whereas the fake one seems to be missing something inside.

Yes I'll be able to do that, once I get to my home computer as I'm away from home as of the moment. Tomorrow afternoon I will post them up.

Would be great since mine is underway. So I can compare both

In this one the real one is one the left, and you may notice how to corners on the device are more defined than the fake one, regarding the outside of it and the HDMI female plug.
On top is the real one, and it looks like it has a more yellowish hue to the white compared to the fake one.
Here the real one is on the bottom, and you can tell the MHL label is a little lighter of a shade of grey. The metal male plug is also different, with the real one having a little smoother look to it and where the metal interlocks in the middle it seems to be in a different style in the fake one.
On the right is the fake one. It looks like the connector's edges are more defined and has two ridges along the bottom, whereas the fake one it seems there are none.
Let me know if you guys want more pics, I took plenty just in case.

Mine is genuine because its from Amazon directly. But the crackling noise when you shake it is a bit concerning

What kind of power source? Also, did that choke on the adapter come with it, or did you add that yourself?
Thanks,
--Matthew

If you mean by choke the cable no it was not included. The power source is included in the Mhl adapter

I dunno, it's really not as bad as you might think! It's cheap, it's minimalistic, and it works brilliantly! Maybe I should make another short video showing what it looks like in my car
One other added little bonus is that, when setting my Tab down on like a desk or table, since it rests on the soft fuzzy velcro instead of its metal casing, it's somewhat protected from possibly getting scuffed on the back.
For about $3 at your local RadioShack, you really can't go wrong

valid points, but what about when you take the velcro off, you would be left with marks there, i cant wait to get the leather case which will protect it
i got this one but i only payed 19.99, he seller has since upped the price to 29.99 and has sold close to 50 of these:

Not as much as you might think. I did the same thing with my original GTab, and there was nothing left behind from the Velcro when I sold it. If anything, those two strips just kept that area clean and unscathed. No sticky residue or anything!

I actually went to buy the keyboard from a local vendor and they said hey we also have the car mount so i picked one up also.. Looks sweet.. I wish it had a speaker phone in the base like the Galaxy Nexus car mount but then again the speakers are plenty loud on the tab as it is.. I think i bought every accessory already.! Except the hdmi adapter.. I dont see a need for it as both my TV's have dlna clients built in so i can stream media to the TV's over my 802.11 N 5ghz wlan..

Tab 7.7
Just FYI DLNA is handy but in my opinion it's not a viable substitute for the HDMI adapter if you plan on using your device to output to a TV. DLNA doesn't do well with all file formats and it's kind of torturous to advance or rewind. The HDMI adapter lets you use the tab pretty much like you would normally. I don't think DLNA is really all that mature yet. It will be better when future versions can simply mirror your device to the TV via WiFi rather than the very limited way it operates now.
I use DLNA everyday to watch video content through out my home no problem.. it maybe a young protocol.. but i havent had any problems.. i agree with you about not supporting all codecs/formats but i believe this is a limititatiin of the tab as mkv, m2ts wont play on the device pulling from my nas boxes.. but my tvs have played all formats that ive thrown at it up to 1080p 5.1ac3 over 802.11n 5ghz...

Fit for Car Mount
Does anyone know if the car mount will allow you to mount the tab if it has a thin back cover case in place? I have the Rock Ultra Thin case and I like it, but I don't want to have to remove it every time I want to put it in the car (daily).

No. It is a tight fit, especially around the corners.

NEW Cheaper better alternative DX30 magnetic dock clone ~$12USD

EDIT: The original $17 dock I posted got some average reviews as people were having issues with it connecting properly. I found another one which is actually cheaper at $12 and seems to be working well so far. I havent had a chance to test the charging time yet but will update when I do.

Ordered one as well. This looks promising!
I ordered one of these things from a different site too.
Only after I ordered did I realise that it probably won't play nice with a case, unlike the DK30 which has the removable insert.
I think the other port could be a pass through. It looks like it takes a micro USB input and has a USB output port.

Cool will be interesting to find out what the usb port is for
one thing is it takes some effort for the phone to be plugged in right, doesnt seem to fit tight into the charger , out of 10 tries i got it to charge once
Yeah.. I was disappointed when the dock arrived today. The problem is that the magnetic connector isn't secured. It keeps moving around. I broke 1 of the 2 clips holding the magnetic connector while I was playing around with it. However I found a solution.... I just super glued the entire fitting under the insert together so it doesn't move around. Then put the insert back. Now it doesn't move and I get a secure connection each time.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
bummer - was hoping it was going to be better. I guess for the price and after the superglue fix its ok. Can't really justify paying $50 for the official DX30.
btw did you work out what the USB port on the back does?
I agree I cannot justify $50 either. But it's not bad after the fix. I have not played around with the USB port yet.

my wife was able to get it to stick by keeping a paper sheet behind the phone while sticking it in the dock
Just thought I'd share a bit in case anyone's wondering what's inside here.
I tore mine apart cause I was curious why I was only reading 0.5V on the terminals (Phone wouldn't connect after trying numerous times) So I decided to see what was inside.
The four screws on the back are under the rubber feet, and it appears all of them were stripped out at the factory due to metal shavings all over the adhesive on the backs of the pads, and the lack of a proper slot on the head.
After removing those, it appears that the connector sits on a hinge piece inside to allow it to move up and down while accommodating the phone in the slot. Unfortunately, the connector attaches with a slot and couple clips, which are fairly weak. On the plus side, there is a rounded holder on the back itself which keeps the plug from being forced too far down inside (hopefully)
The circuit board is very simple, and comes out with 3 screws, one hidden under the rubber square on the board.
There really isn't much there, it appears that the USB port is simply to power a second device. I tested it and power is indeed coming out of that port. I tested it with my laptop and it does not appear that it passes data through that port to the microUSB, so it is a power-only connector. There is also a small fuse on the board.
I reassembled my unit and it has the proper voltage on the terminals, perhaps a loose connection somewhere inside the connector was to blame. It works but does require accurate alignment, no throwing the phone on the dock and expecting it to charge, which is fairly inconvenient. The idea of the mag connector is to be faster and easier than popping a door open and plugging USB in, but here it takes me just as long. Maybe removing the surrounds on the power pins would help, but that would expose it to shorts, so not sure how good of an idea that is.
Anyway, for $14, it works, and seems to charge. If you need a dock, and you don't have the money for the Sony official, this one gets the job done, mostly.

I like the look of this thing and seems capable enough, but I hate the idea of anything like that connected directly to the phone that way. I have looked for micro usb 3.0 and micro usb 2.0 extension cables but i'm not finding much. And what I am finding is kinda pricey. Amazon has two, but reviews on one are iffy and there are none on the other. I did find this site http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendmicrob.html , but i'm not sure these would work with the desktop dock kit.
Might someone have hands on experience with a < 6" extension cable (either male to male or male to female) that would work with this? Thanks.
I also found a coupon code for 30% off brando products, but I can't see where to apply it on their site or the worldpay site when you check out. Anyone have any idea how to apply a code for them?

Desktop Dock Connection Kit
Hi everyone. I just recived my dock.
Unfortunately is MHL 1.1, so all you will have is 1280x720px on the screen. Also it lacks 5.1 sound support (al these features from MHL 2.0).
Works well, but you will see more detailed graphics on the Note III 5,7 inches screen rather than on an 46 inches TV Screen.
OTG Works nice (surprisingly, when you connect a keyboard thru USB, the note screen atomatically tunrs off to save battery and prevent overheating, very nice "hidden" feature from Samsung).
The construction looks cheap, the plastic hasn't nice finishing, but nothing too remarkable. The usb female plugs are tight as ****, so be careful when extracting dongles (specially the cheap ones) because you will left the half of the male conector inside the dock.
Feel free to ask any question or test to make.
Regards

Nexus 6 Desk Dock (Not NFC)

Has anyone come across a good Nexus 6 Desk Dock yet? I am a developer and like connecting my phone to my computer on a dock when I program so I can send an app to the device without the cables getting in the way or touching the phone. I had one for my Note II and while it looked crappy, it got the job done. I don't need anything fancy, Universal works, too as long as the phone is in portrait mode and the cable can be reversed.
I came across this:

I think I'd like to get something a little more secure, but this would probably work well for me anyways.

Connector isn't facing the right way. Its not going to work with Nexus or HTX One. Thanks though.. That's on the right track!
I JUST ordered one on amazon. It's supposed to be really good and the looks are exactly what I was searching for. It's called Bracketron Nanotek Stand. Mine's the aluminum silver version. Weird how we are both thinking the same thing even though I have never really thought of getting one for any device before.
I found what I'm looking for... but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I guess the technical term is cradle.

Since it was posted on their site January 6th, I guess it hasn't made it out to retailers yet. The sell a universal one for the M8 that would work with our phones, but I'd rather get something that supports the device on the sides as well.
This dock is perfect! Has anyone been able to get it yet?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MUHUCBI/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p107_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1AD2M7P2BPSP2AG056PN&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop
I think I'd like to get something a little more secure, but this would probably work well for me anyways.

If you don't mind waiting, the same thing can be had for half the price on ebay. FYI I am using one as an iPad stand and it's working very well. Good thing is it works with or without case, bad thing is obviously you need to plug the cable in manually every time.

The only US distributer is Naked Cell Phone (basically an eBay store but they do have a website). I contacted them 3 weeks ago and they said 10 days they should be receiving them.... So that's 11 late now ?. I keep checking their eBay store daily to see if they get them in.
Sorry if I am dreaming
I need a dock or stand that can handle a thick case.
Size of Nexus 6 is 6.27" x 3.27" x 0.4" (159 x 83 x 10.1 mm), so it should handle 0.4" or greater.

I ended up getting that one. After bending to make room for a USB cable on the bottom and still allowing it to stay upright and not fall backwards, I still only kinda like it. It works if I don't have to touch the phone. If I have a button on the top half, it falls backwards.
Thanks. Do you remember where you ordered it from?

I got it from Amazon. Ended up buying the RND dock that recently came out on EBay. Gets here on Saturday.
I found this desk dock that looks like it would do the trick and it's cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Micro-USB-Desktop-Charge-Windows/dp/B00RWFVS1Q/
I don't have my Nexus 6 yet, but can someone tell me if or how this works with Daydream? According to this: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2818748?hl=en 'By default, your device may only Daydream when it is docked. If you want your device to Daydream whenever it is plugged in, make sure to set "When to Daydream" as "Either" or "While charging."'
Are the docks wired for the phone to know if is docked like the Galaxy Notes I have had, or is there another way? Are there special docks that enable dock mode for the Nexus 6? If so, I haven't been able to find any yet.
I bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMOBI4-2I...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item43d6b7daf6..
It's properly made for the Nexus 6 and fits perfectly. You may not want the landscape orientation but it works well for me.
This is the one I'm using: http://fuzdesigns.com/pages/EverDock
Not keen on universal docks
I have to say that I am not a fan of universal docks like the Ever Dock. The bottom of the N6 is rounded and the lack of support at the sides means it can wobble while plugged in.
Sooner or later this is going to damage the USB port.

They have a thicker rubber part you can buy. That plus the case on the phone means the phone rests evenly on the dock.
That makes sense. I hate cases so I keep forgetting that a lot of people use them.
Has anybody found one that activates dock mode for Daydream?

Charger stand

Anyone have tips on making a charger stand or dock?
I basically have to have my watch on its face to charge.
Mine charges perfectly fine.. Never need to put it on its face.
I have the gunmetal with the brown leather band. I'm able to set it upright on the band with the band open. It doesn't look great but at least it's face up.
Would a *spit* applewatch stand work, or would the weight of the watch cause it to fall off? Could mould a disc from plastic or something to fit the circle and poke the charger through for the Zen?
You could use a simple wooden dowel with a 45° angle and screw the charging kit on top. (it looks like the old charging kit doesn't fit and we have to wait for a new version)
Built one
I've got the same Idea and built a dual Charger today. Looks great and works great, too

damn, this looks nice.
at the moment I'm thinking about something bigger where I can place all my devices (watch, phone, tablet, battery pack, ...)
Do you know a _good_ charging station with 2.4A? something like this?
Thanks!
I'm using a product called "tizi tankstelle" which can be found on amazon. They've got other USB-Chargers etc. as well. You can have a look here:

You can use this with any Apple Watch stand and you have one for under $30.

Dude that is flipping sweet. In fact I think I will make that tonight. My phone wirelessly charges, so I would want to have a hole on the base to fit the puck. I actually think I would like the phone to be inclined with a footer, so I can just drop it without having to worry about alignment.
Wow what a great idea. It would make great gifts too.
The only problem I would have is I have a metal band that doesn't open, so I would have to make a L bracket so I can slide it over.
Thanks. Pls upload a picture of your finished work
If you want to go cheap I found 2 projects on Thingiverse. In my current city there are no 3D printer (checked on 3dhubs.com), once I'll come back to the University I'll try to print something.

Yes, I actually bought two. It worked perfectly in two different watch stands.
Has anyone found a source for spare charging cables yet? Google Store doesn't allow me to put in cart... Must be because I'm in Canada. :/

I am in the same boat. Would love a spare charger for at work.
hopefully ebay will have these soon enough.
Side note: do you find your watch has horrible connection distance/ always disconnects?

Yes, yes I do. One of the things I have found that helped a bit was to go into the Battery in the Settings, hit the 3dot menu, go into Battery Optimization and stop optimizing Android Wear. Hasn't solved the problem, but it has helped.
Either this is an issue with the Nexus 6P's bluetooth or the Zenwatch 2 is screwing bluetooth up big time. I've been having issues with my bluetooth headphones and with uConnect in my truck too. Eventually I need to take the ZenWatch 2 out of the equation and see if my BT problems go away. But it's been bad.

Thanks for this. I ordered mine from Amazon, and was surprised how well it worked. Bought an elander stand to go with it and it's pretty well perfect. Only wish there was more hardware/software support for this watch, as I'm finding that there isn't a lot out there for it. Shame too, because I think it's a very underrated watch.
If I may make a suggestion, the imprinted logo on the bottom doesn't make for adhering a sticky patch on it all that great.
