[Q] Gsmar Roma R2 support? - Themer General Discussion

I am about to change phones this week and I have this Gsmart in sights. I would like to know if it would be able to run Themer. According to specs it sports following:
MTK6572 chipset
Mali400 GPU
1GB RAM
4" IPS 800x480 screen at 220-something dpi
I have not held the phone in hand yet but from images online it looks like it has soft keys.
I wanted to try Themer from the start but alas my current phone is way out of the specs for it to run (poor old Samsung Galaxy mini at 3.2' 240x320 screen) so I would rather get a phone that is able to run it...

For now the Galaxy S2 is supported, and that has roughly the same specifications, however that doesn't have soft keys. So chances are Themer is not going to work. We are working on supporting more devices soon though. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Well, according to this image ( http://www.mojandroid.sk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Recenzia_GSmart_Roma_R2_12.jpg) and unboxing videos on youtube, the keys are visible even if the phone is turned off. similar to Samsung's HW home button. So it seem that Gsmart has no HW button but has instead touch keys. But are those considered soft keys? As I understand it, soft keys are actually part of the devices screen? Am I right?
If so that it would mean the the phone has 'native" resolution of 480 x 800 without those additional 54 pixels of height reserved for keys and I should be able to run themer... Please say my understanding is correct... :fingers-crossed:
_____________
Edit:
Never mind, I just found the explanation for soft keys on the support site. These are definitely not what is considered soft keys... So I am looking forward to trying themer on my new phone next week... :good:
Thread can be considered solved and it can be closed...

I have just returned with the new phone and guess what was the first app I needed to try... Yes, Themer and it is running so far without a problem so I will keep on playing around and see if I find any issues.
So at least some good news for guys with phones with similar specs..:good:

[Q] User Interface and Screeen

Hey guys.I'm considering getting a Optimus One, but I do have some questions.
1) How responsive is the user interface (Is it smooth or does it lag)
2) How responsive is the touch screen? How does it compare to an iPhone's?
3) The touch screen is capativive right?
I have a choice between the Optimus One and the HTC Wildfire, but I don't have a clue which one to get. Any adviice would be great.
Mate... if you're wondering between those two... Just go for optimus one! I have some test units for development and I just prefer my own. Those wildfire are worse (in every way)! Lauzy resolution, not smooth, sometimes buttons just aren't rendered correctly and (for me it isn't good) the screen is too sensitive.
1) Smooth (and even smoother if you install laucher pro)
2) Very responsive
3) Capacitive, yes
And again, for your own good, do not buy a wildfire...

I didn't noticed any problem. Always is really fast and I haven't any problem even with more application running. Only some time when I my Smart keyboard appear, I noticed small time between 1st touch and responce (about 200ms). On second and next is everything ok (maybe problem is in load of dictionary from SDcard)

I had't touch screen before, but I think that it works really nice. Some time I noticed casual (I don't know it this is right word) touchs, but I thing that it's caused by me, becouse I'm not "experienced" with touchs By time is going, it works more better with me

I have same choice, but when I red about battery time, I chose Optimus One. HTC many times have problem keeps 1 day. With my Optimus I attacking 2 days. Also there was some notes about better readability of display on sun (but I can't confirm this).
Thanx alot people. I think I've made up my mind, I will get the optimus one.
Just one more quest, as far as I know the Optimus One does not support 3d gaming and I have made piece with that, but then I found this video on youtube, where a guy is playing Need For Speed Shift on his Optimus One.Just search for "optimus one nfs shift" on youtube (Sorry I cant post links yet). Can someone mabey confirm that it is possible as it just seems just too good to be true.Once again, thanx for the replies.
I am not sure that's correct.... I thought the OPTIMUS 1 had a dedicated GPU Adreno 200? Which supports OPEN GL.... I am pretty sure the Wildfire does not have one.

Well, Here is the deal on our phone , link @ goo.gl/2PCYC :
""Quadrant benchmark application measures the overall performance of your phone. Given that the CPU component hardly received any improvement over MSM7200 series, it is natural to conclude that other areas received significant improvements. One area in particular, is the GPU. MSM7227 features a dedicated GPU called, Adreno 200. This is the SAME GPU that is found in the first generation Snapdragon processors!
.......
And then there's the screen resolution. Typical Snapdragon phones use 800x480 screen resolution, while most of the MSM7227 phones use 320x480. That's less than half the amount of pixels MSM7227 has to process through. The result? Surprisingly snappy performance out of "lowly" 528MHz/600MHz processor!""
& i even tried ExZeus (link: goo.gl/pkA6D ) which run well too.

[Q] Galaxy S2 ICS ability

Hi,
Anyone out there with experience of Android updates to older phones and how well they handled it.
I ask because I want to know about the Galaxy S2 and how well we expect Android 4.0 (ICS) to be implemented.
Of course, it will come out at some point, but my primary concerns are whether it will add to the battery power needed burden to make things run smoothly as it will retrofit the S2 hardware.
I also want to know how easy it is likely to be to replace the on screen buttons with the S2 hardware buttons, as this will be a waste of screen space on the S2 if it is still to pop up there above the hardware buttons.
Any help and other thoughts on the matter will be much appreciated.

To say anything on how it will be implemented on the S2 would be pure conjecture. No one knows yet.
Its still in the middle of being ported/hacked over to our device, with no official Samsung ICS Roms released/leaked yet.
Regarding the 'on screen button' query, it would seem that ICS would detect capacitative buttons, and thus hide the on-screen buttons.
Hi,
First of all i wouldnt class a Galaxy S2 as an older phone, samsung have made a point of holding back on the Galaxy Nexus hardware so it doesnt outdo there own flagship model.
Yesterday, I compared a Galaxy Nexus to my Galaxy S2 running the ICS alpha and was slightly disappointed that the Galaxy Nexus screen didnt look any different to my GS2 both in screen real estate and screen clarity.
I doubt very much ICS will reduce battery life as the hardware acceleration should help matters as there will be less reliance on the phone CPU to draw things the GPU can draw easily.
The onscreen buttons can be easily disabled and dont offer anything that the GS2 hardware buttons dont. If anything the GS2 has the advantage of a menu button which you dont get on the Nexus and until the majority of apps put a software menu button on their apps it's going to cause issues, i thought that the software buttons would be more intellegent and add a menu button for legacy apps but they just seem to stay the same buttons all the time. I know paul o'brian has done a custom mod for this so hopefully google with do the same.
I personnally am happy with my GS2 hardware, the issue for me is software and whether i can wait for 4.0 either official or unofficial.

There actually IS a "virtual menu button" for those apps who use the menu.
But it's rather small and easy to miss.
It's on the far right, looks like three dots above each other, I could use all "old" apps I tried so far with it and effectively not using the "real" buttons at all.
I hope if ROM cooks tend to remove the on-screen buttons, they keep an option to re-enable them, 'cause I really like them
(and they are NOT showing up in the SDK emulator, so it does seem to have some kind of detection.)
ICS does not show the Virtual Buttons on devices with HW Keys.
Thats an absolute, 100% given, please stop discussing about it.
The Galaxy S II has a better GPU and a CPU I'd call Equal with the one of the Galaxy Nexus, also the screen has a way lower resolution, so it might even run smoother than on the Galaxy Nexus,
But what about future apps.....if they are built to a standard 720p resolution, then will the Samsung galaxy S2 suffer then compared to the Nexus which has similar spec - ie do you think we will get new apps that will run better on a 720p screen which looks likely to be more standard in all future high spec phones ?
In my opinion, Galaxy S2 will perform much better on ICS than Gingerbread, considering ICS will actually utilize DUAL-CORE efficiently, rather than just burning battery on two-cores just to work one-core...
It's like XP before & after SP2

You are trying to find a future-proof a device. Well - it ain't gonna work. Technology moves at a quick pace. At most - I can say GSII may work super well with all apps (and games) until a point when it has become the standard for all screen resolutions to be 720p or 1080p or 9040p. This may be in 2 or 3 years.
Besides, an app developer would make their app compatible with all devices UNLESS they intended it to run purely on a certain resolution.
Nexus phone isn't better than the GSII by the way. It just has ICS on it. =/
Thanks for all of you inputs guys.
Sounds like the GS2 will work as well with ICS if not better.
It also comes across that although the screen size if the GS2 is smaller than the GNex, it is more or less cancelled out seeing as the GNex has to use some screen for the virtual buttons at the bottom, wheras the GS2 will not have to use any screen on this.......therefore negating the screen real-estate difference.......right ?
Then it only comes down to resolution between the two.
For a much lower resolution, the GS2 still looks amazing to the eye, which makes me wonder what the real worls advantages will be of the higher resolution screen on the GNex.
Could it be the web page layout or looks when they load up ?
Could it be noticed when playing media ?
I am not sure anymore.
Ideally the resolution advantage comes into play during
1. Browsing, especially while reading small text as very small letters can be drawn accurately.
2. Pictures will be more clearer, especially some wallpapers do ask for more resolution.
3. Video playback
Altogether everything will appear more smooth and clear. So a welcome thing this resolution is. But nexus has pentile display and there are chances this might offset the resolution advantage mainly during text diaplays
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I agree with the last comment to an extent. But we are talking about a phone screen with hundreds of pixels already.
To the normal user in the real world, do you still think that applies ? Ie the text might be a little clearer, but is it not darn clear already on the lower GS2 resolution ?
And wallpapers - even if it was origianlly a 720p picture and the GS2 resizes it, would the average guy out there be able to distingush ?

Here http://t.co/RzNWJWcQ , Have a look how stock ICS looks and works on GSII. And all this is done without any driver source code. Imagine how quick it would be when samsung does ICS with proper drivers.
At least Samsung confirmed they will release ICS to S2. When? That's a different story... Probably late next year.

android port to lumia ? or am i crazy

hi , does enyone know if there will be a port from android to lumia ?
because that would be pretty cool , having te possibilit yto run android on this epic phone
i love WP7 but there arent that many awesome apps , so thats why i would love the possibility to run android
anywayz , have fun with your phone !
and i know this isnt Q&A but that forum doesnt exist yet so i post this Q here

It will never happen. Two completely different systems. I'm coming from Android and I for one would not want to ruin this phone with putting Android on it. I find WP7 so much more modern and refreshing.
I do not miss force closes nor lag.
I'm not negative to the possibility. I'm just sure it's not possible.
Hi,
I don't think it will happen. Due to there not being that many developers for the lumia. I also thing most of the hardware could be used in android, Seeing as the HTC Desire S and the Sony Xperia Arc use the MSM8255 Snapdragon(but i could be wrong, I have only really started developing).
I just dont see any real advantage of running Android on the Lumia. It is already a great device. I could only see thing going downhill if you did. Your device would have alot of lag plus the lumia only has 512mb of ram. And everybody that has used android will tell you 512mb of ram is sufficiant but not enough to run smoothly or run any intense apps.
You could, but you'd have to ask Dark Forces Team and Cotulla to release either a port of MAGLDR or the source to it to modify the chain boot loader.
Something I'd love to see but doubt we will ever see. I personally just got a Lumia 800 and although it's a nice phone the software lapses too much and in too many places so back to Android I go...even if it is the newer Android which is skinned over and too customised!
As I know the bootloader of lumia is very secured and will not allow modifications like dualOS booting.
1. You are crazy.
2. People always want what they can't get.
Technically it is possible. We have already seen examples of porting Android to older WM devices, like HTC HD2, HTC Touch Cruise, but it involves a lot of work and knowledge in system hacking.
Once you have cracked bootloader you can boot whatever you want. All you need to do is to find a device with the same chipset already running Android and port it over. Of course there will be many driver problems like non working, BT, WiFi, camera etc, but hey, what did you expect.
I bet that there is the same question in Nexus forums - How can we port WP7 to Galaxy Nexus
If you want the Lumia with android, sell it and buy the Nokia N9

You're both crazy, why didn't you just go Android? Strange people?
Yeah I bought this phone to get rid of Andrpid myself. I'm so sick of it!
Why the hell would you want freakin' Android to run on a WP like this?? You're crazy, that's clear
Android only has negative sides, WP is refreshing and smooth. I don't see ANY reason why you would want Android to mess up this beatiful phone.
Okay, I'm an Android hater, that's clear, but let me point it out:
Android is a copy of iOS (it's just boring)
It lags all the way
You need a nuclear power plant to keep it running for 1 day
The user experience is not consistent on all devices (not even with the same OEM!!)
Updates? Yes, if you do it all yourself
Open? Oh, thank you for your openness Android, and the malware...
I can go on if you'd like, but I think it's clear why I don't see this as a good idea...
Lol, that was one of the dumbest trollings I've seen, _Madmatt.
For me its WP which only has negative sides. Its locked, limited, the interface is counter intuitive in many places, can't multitask properly, most apps are inferior to android ones, upgrades are rolled out slowly and with the locked product codes you never know if you'll get the next one, etc.
Ah, and android is no copy of iOS, but the wp7 tiles ARE a copy of android widgets, with some functionality removed.
As for the hardware of the lumia 800, it is superior to my 2 years old N1, with a better CPU, GPU, and the same memory. And my N1 flies running MIUI, so even a crippled phone like this should even be better.
Why did I get a Lumia? I was offered it, tried to use it for some time, gave up, gave it to the wife, who is now begging for me to give her her blade back. Even the better screen and camera were insufficient to convince her to keep using the Lumia. She keeps complaining of the apps, of the terrible battery, of being unable to do anything. Even changing a ringtone is a mess, having to cut and resample a MP3 file before being able to use it as a ringtone.
So, it seems like the Lumia will end in a drawer until someone manages to port android or meego to it. Unfortunately as it was a gift I can't sell it, or it would be gone by now.

LOL, you think I have such things? No way mate
Android and WP7 are two completely different beasts. No point in comparing them it's all about personal preference.
I come from Android and WP7 suits me so much better even though I liked the freedom of Android compared to WP. I rooted and flashed roms like crazy. But I got tired of acting beta tester. So much bugs here and there on Android. Specially if running custom roms.
Sure there are more apps also with more functionality. But I prefer the metro styled WP7 apps as they most often fit the design of the OS. That can't be said about Android apps. Often ugly and no one looks the same making the user experience much worse.
The lagg was the biggest issue for me with Android though. No matter the hardware (SGSII) there is always lag because of how the Android OS is built up. Even ICS won't fix this fully with its hardware acceleration. This is a area where Google has failed. Giving a smooth user experience. Both iPhone and WP7 has this and understand its importance but Android can't unless they rebuild it from the ground which I don't think will ever happen.
Completely agree with ^^
I was active Android ROM builder, tester, themer etc for more than 2 years., but I think I just got tired of endless battle with force closes and laags. The biggest problem with android is that it does not run on native code but on interpreted layer dalvikvm. You can try as hard as you want, but you will always need double horse power for the same tasks on other platforms.
That's also explains why WP7 is perfectly smooth with x2 less CPU and RAM while latest Google flagship with nearly desktop PC power suffers laagspikes here and there. While those small laag spikes are less visible on smartphones things are just getting worse with tablets. Today there is no tablet running Android which can render UI transitions with 60fps.
You can read a blog from ex Google employee about that.
How about some Android graphics true facts?
I agree with you guys, after using android from G1,htc hero, desire S,nexus one,sg1 and 2,galaxy nexus,lg optimus black and apple 4 and 3gs with all the cusotm roms and modifications none of them stand above wp7 smoothness. I can say i never had a lag on my phone ever, where android and ios would lag here and there. Again e-mail aplication is just a joy to use,and all the animation how they smooth transit...it never stops to impress me. Ofcourse it has some shortcomings but definatelly will get better, especially with nokia's help.Aplication wise, well i don't use that many apps but the one i used definatelly looked better than android and apple,it's like the have more soul and not look so dull and borring.
At first i did not like the idea Nokia refused android but now i see that they done the right decision,i see it no better.

Well said. I had got used to the lag and didn't realise how bad it was until I got the Lumia.
I got sick of flashing ROMS too. CM7 was nice and stable, but when ICS roms came out I got sucked in. The gapps are all facelifted and are a lot nicer than Gingerbread. But then the ICS roms all have their issues and it just gets annoying.

This is really a great device. Amazing price-quality ratio. I just bought one as a second phone and I'm very happy with it.
Performance is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S+ but with a nice 4.3 screen.
And Alcatel has promised an ICS update so fingers crossed.
@ whigga: yeah, it's really a great device with such cheap price. it's a steal!
hopefully devs can look into this phone. it's something like LG Optimus X2 of some sort.
Available here now for $280
I really like the 4.3" over my 4.1" phones,
Strange they made no 850MHz 3G units for countries that have the stronger frequency like Australia, USA, Thailand, China etc... for those that dont know 850MHz can penetrate into buildings to allow better indoor reception.
Just like to bump this thread. Any update of development?
Heey guys!
I just bought this phone 2 days ago, after my Galaxy Gio died 1,5 week ago.
I'm very happy to hear there are more satisfied users of the OT-995 who want a custom rom and XDA thread
Let's hope a good developer will also get this beautifull device!
By the way: does someone know a good way to root the Alcatel OT-995?

Hello Petalotis!
I just looked, and it seems there is not 512mb ram. It's exactly the same as it is with Xperia Neo V I guess, because my telephone says there's something like 370 mb ram. Normally I'm a heavy device user (except for my last one, the Galaxy Gio), but I have to say this smartphone can handle all the apps I want. I'm really happy with it, and on Quadrant Standard benchmark it even scores better than Galaxy Nexus (and on Antutu they have around the same amount of points). So I hope you don't get fooled by the 'not-so-high' amount of ram, and that you can participate in searching for OT-995 root methodes and ROMs!

also I would ask the people who bought this device if they try to connect mouse or keyboard in mini usb gate ?
already seen a guide to do this in galaxy s (in this forum). Hub must accept external power because there isnt enough power in mini usb
is it possible that this works ? can you try to connect keyboard and mouse in hub or a usb flash
i would appreciate that
thank you very much
I also have the alcatel ot-995.
I''ve tried things like superonclick and z4root.
Is there any possible way to root my phone or do I just have to wait for a new rooting way.
Hello! I just bought is phone people , has as nice price!!!
And I hope someone considering spend some time to make the root possible!!

This phone is perfectly capable of making 3g video calls. At least it works in Holland, where I live. Do realize that this functionality also depends on your network provider if they allow it.

Yeah, you're right! Software implementation is defenitely not as good as the hardware should allow it to be. Processor and ram are more than capable, but still there is lag where similar speced phones have none. Hopefully the promised ICS upgrade will fix this or otherwise hoping for some good 'ol custom rom development.
OT995 Potentials
I'm a freak of speed for low cost and the alcatel OT995 will definetly be
my next one!
Hopefully does developers see the potentials of this low budget device,
and make a masterpiece ready to challenge with high-end non-price-quality
phones!
I keep fingers crossed, once a project gets started, I buy one !

LG Optimus L7 II (Optimus L7 2) P710

Does anyone else wait for the new Optimus L7 II (P710)?
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/lg-optimus-l7-2-1133186/review
Dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon 1GHz, Adreno 203, 4.3 inches display, 8 MP camera, 2460 mAh battery.

Especially the battery impresses me. Samsung Galaxy S2 got an improved optional power battery 2000mAh
Hopefully the P710 will get Cyanogenmod, because it seems to have standard Qualcomm hardware. And hopefully the price will be similar to the very cheap P700...

$205 sim-lock-free, off-contract.
AW: LG Optimus L7 II (Optimus L7 2) P710
Yes, I'm waiting for it. It should replace my old LG Optimus One p500.
The size (4.3") is not to big, the battery sounds good, it has NFC and Sd-Card and Jelly Bean. Does anyone knows the release date in Germany?

I asked on the german amazon website and got an answer.
You can turn the backlight on and off in the settings.

Another question: Is rooting possible yet.

I don't own the phone yet, but you see the backlight at 1:32 in this unboxing video:
The video is from the same person, who told me in the amazon-comments, that it's possible.
You could ask him in the Youtube-comments. He wrote, that he is open to questions and ideas.

both are basically same model with p715 having dual sim. else configuration is same.
I know it's still fresh phone, but are there any news about rooting, unlocking and android development for P710? I couldn't find no information about it yet. Hopefully it will not prove to be dead end. Solid hardware and large battery should provide nice starting point for a great phone.

I found this in a russian forum:
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=de&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D449418%26st%3D340&usg=ALkJrhhA3Y4nCn-VHJSkwtrTc3atIuilnA#entry21733927
The rooted kdz-file is for the p713 and I don't know, what is the difference to the p710 (languages, basebands?).
I got this phone last week, but there are some issues, and I'm not alone with them.
Overheating: the display-brightness goes automatically to 61% after some minutes of usage outside in the sun
it often losts the mobile reception, when the usb is plugged in for charging
it losts my legally paid Play Store apps after a reboot (wrong mounting?). this is only for a few users, for me too
So there is some effort, excellent. Thanks for finding this.
As for the problems stated it seems like some software issue to me, even if it is hardware related it is too big of a problem not to be rectified by manufacturer.

I got my phone 4 days ago, same day came out update to 10D (europe region hungary) so I was on original 10A just few minutes , none of the issues exists. I have only small problem,
back cover is not good as it was on L7 P700, or on the P715 (the dual sim version) the back is slick so it will probobly collect some scratches soon, but the everything else is much better, screen is more responsive than on 4X, camera is excelent, gps lock is faster, battery backup is better than P700 on ICS , quick translator is nice addon.

Pepe

Great post, it should be sticky.....
I have bought this phone yesterday, and all i can say it is amazing! Speed, display quality, angle of view, camera...
Pictures are great at full dark, flash is very powerfull, colors are so freaking natural.
UI Speed amazing! I couldnt belive it. Jelly Bean and the Butter Project are realy doing their purpose. I have put on Nova Launcher, and it is so smooth. Other, settings scrolling, Phonebook scroling, etc, etc, is also very smooth.
This phone also has Face unlock, smart screen lock ( Like Galaxy S III, it locks itself when you are not watching it), NFC, Android Beam and so on...The only thing it doesnt have is HDMI. But, i dont realy need that, because i have VGA connection monitor But it would be great to watch pictures on HDMI at 1920 x 1080 LED Screen
I was deciding between L7 II and Alcatel OneTouch Idol (I dont know which Idol, there are milion versions, LOL, but it is dual core with 1GB of RAM). And when i was testing them, Alcatels camera is worse than LG's, even though Alcatel supposingly has HDR :/
Further more, Alcatel has 4.7 inch display that is about 11.9 cm compared to LG's 4.3 inch (10.9 cm), and it has bigger resolution (because of the bigger screen DUH), but in fact, Alcatel's display looks a little like your old T-Shirt that was being washed 75 times Colors are not so natural like on LG, even though both have IPS LCD screen. But, dont get me wrong, that Alcatel is an amazing phone for the price of 2500RSD (about 23 euros) a month in VIP Mobile network. The main thing that pushed me away from Alcatel is 1800mAh battery that supplies 4.7 inch screen :/
That's a little low, you will agree with me...But further more, it cant be removed from the phone! i.e. user cant replace the battery if it dies...And maybe that could not be a problem, if Alcatel had a good SUPPORT! But, they dont have it, i had an alcatel OT before...So, if my battery dies, i cant replace it, i have no mobile phone store that can replace the battery instead of me. In either way, it is impossible to change it. It is not like on Iphone, there you have Apple store and, services on any corner and you can do what ever the F*** you want...
So the sum is, people that are thinking to buy this phone, dont think furthermore, go to the store and buy it!
