More information dude.
Anyways, don't restore data when restoring a stock ROM. Use helium for apps, and nandroid for system.
Smack that Thanks button if I helped!
KitKat came in on my OmniROM, running on my Note 2.
Sent from a small country called Singapore.
P.S. Time for school, not much time for XDA

[Q] Need help restoring a backup in TWRP

I made a backup of my HTC EVO LTE Stock ROM in TWRP, I flashed CMX, now I want to go back to Stock, so I went to TWRP>Install, I can see my backup folder under /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/name of backup.. but I when I select the folder it does not give me the option to Install it. It just opens as an empty folder. I did notice the folder is not in a .zip format. Is this the reason why? Did I miss something during the back up process? And if so, how can I fix it? Is it as easy as just converting the regular folder into a .zip folder then try to install it this way?.. Please tell me not everything is lost, lol.. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There should be a restore option on the main screen in twrp recovery. If you hit that it will allow you to choose what file you want to restore

Seconded. Choose "restore" to restore nandroid backups.

Need to Restore But Getting Black Screen
Okay so my situation is similiar to the OP.
I was running CM10 then a custom sense Rom.
I made an original backup, but when I restore it I get a black screen at boot.
Typically when I flash a Rom I have to fastboot flash the boot.img which is no biggie, but there's no boot.img that I can find in the twrp backup.
Might be just as easy to flash a stock Rom, but not sure exactly where to find one. Everything I've found is rooted or custom in some way.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

The ROM I'm trying to restore is the original state of my phone. Would this be a stock ROM with a versioning date of October 28th(the day I got my phone and made the backup), current stock ROMs, or launch stock ROMs. Basically will any boot.img work from a stock ROM?
I do see the boot sector being written during the restore process. There is a boot.something.win file in the backup folder for the backup. Can this be fastbooted? I'm a bit timid to try that, but thinking it may be worth a shot...

Thanks for the quick reply, QuickWizard is very fitting. I actually got it after I finished going my own route though.
I grew a pair and went with my got and I went ahead and flashed the boot.emmc.win from the twrp backup in flashboot. It successfully got me booted and logged into the phone. That said the stock rom is so crappy...
But, I was having issues on CM10 with MHL, on a "stock rom with goodies" I was having radio issues with the latest firmawares, so now it's back to my rooted stock backup and I'm doing the HTC System OTA update... Should be interesting what happens next...
Again thank you all with the quick replies!

Go back to stock, see if it still happens while you are there. If so, return it and ask for a new one. If it doesn't, flash CM again and read the CM thread; you just might find a fix for that issue.

What ROM do you use?
Settings->about phone->build number should give you the ROM name and the firmware it's based on.

Just click restore. You don't have to delete anything first because it will be deleted/replaced by the restored rom

TWRP cannot restore my backup

Hello,
Earlier today I was running CleanROM 5.6 and decided I wanted to try SynergyROM r484. I used TWRP v2.2.0 to backup my CleanROM5.6, and then I wiped and restored everything I needed too and flashed SynergyROM. I forgot to export my contacts from my old ROM as I had some new numbers added, but when I tried restoring back to CleanROM5.6...half way TWRP just restarted. I restored back to SynergyROM r484 and it worked fine, but my CleanROM 5.6 backup seems to be buggy.
It's not really a big deal lol, but I'm just wondering if there is a way to fix this? Should I perhaps consider updating my current version of TWRP? It's been a big buggy, not allowing me to Format Data and I have to uncheck force md5 check(otherwise nothing will flash and I only get them from reputable devs, etc).
Thanks for reading,
Zealex.

Phone stuck on Android is upgrading, Starting applications

Hi!
I recent rooted my Galaxy s2 skyrocket i727 using Odin and i flashed it with TWR
I backup my stock rom with TWR and i decided to wipe the data to install CM10.1
So after about a day i decided the stock rom (android 4.1) was better
So i decided to wipe the data and recover my stock rom using TWR
The recovery was successful, but when i turn on the phohne.
It is stuck on ANDROID IS UPGRADING: STARTING APPLICATIONS
The only thing i care about is my Contacts and any other thing doesnt matter
if there is anyway to fix the error or get my contacts back please help....
Help appreciated thank you!!!
Usually a complete wipe is necessary when restoring a backup, hopefully your contacts etc are synced or backed up elsewhere, but being it was only for a day I cant imagine you will loose much going to a day old backup

Hello, do you remember when you saved your contacts, did it prompt you to save it to one of your emails? Because Android phones will most of the time backup your contacts and save it to your email. If you want to check if you it did do a backup, try to reach another working android cellular device, then login using your email account and sync the contacts. If your contacts appear in that phone, it means that there is a backup in your email. And you can now peacefully install the stock rom manually and not by restoring. CLICK HERE to get download the link for the stock rom, you can just install it like any other rom. And if this happens again in the future, make sure you use the PC/MAC software called "Samsung Kies" to backup almost everything important from your phone.
Thank you for consulting the forums, please click the "Thanks" button below this reply if I helped. Have a nice day.\
Sincerely, ATkeneiville
