LectureNotes: is it better on 10.1 2014 vs the old 10.1? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Themes and Apps

I'm a big fan of LectureNotes on my old 10.1. The only real issue I've had is some slight lag (fixed by returning to stock ROM) and jagged letters. Although other apps like Papyrus, Quill and Jotter have some level of jaggedness, LectureNotes seemed to have the least smooth lines. I partially blame this on the low resolution of the old tablet.
Before taking the plunge and upgrading to the 2014 edition of the 10.1, I'm hoping someone who's used LectureNotes on both devices can answer this question for me: Are the lines still jagged? Does the higher resolution of the 10.1 2014 make the lines look smoother or just enhance the jagged edges?
I know it's not likely that someone has both devices, but I'd love to see some screenshot comparisons.
Alternately, if someone with a 2014 is kind enough and has the time, would it be possible to take a screenshot of a few words written with a black pen with the following settings:
Line width: 0.8
Opacity: 100%
Softness: 0.06
No pressure or velocity sensitivity
And in Filter Input Settings: Savitzky-Golay set to 5
(I know it's asking for a lot, but it would really help me decide if I want to buy a refurbished 2014 unit that Groupon is selling for another 36 hours)

I never had the first 10.1. But I can tell you there are no jagged lines on the 2014 edition and writing is so smooth it's enjoyable.
Here is a screenshot, but I was reluctant to post it because it seems SO MUCH nicer on the screen in person. I feel the screenshot dropped the resolution.
And regarding the line width, my pages are set to max resolution so keep that in mind.

I like nice screens and that's why for me the new note is a lot better. But keep in mind the higher resolution means that LN has to render 4 times as many pixels which you can definitely feel. On the old Note LN is smoother, but probably also because the rom is more fleshed out.

How do you set the line width and smoothing to those exact values? And can I do it for all my pencils rather then 1 custom one?
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

@arty93: All properties of custom pencils can be adjusted in the custom pencil settings. You can open the custom pencil settings via the menu item in the pencil menu, or if you are using the pencil toolbox, double-click on a custom pencil.

You're right; it's hard to tell from the screenshot but it "seems" smooth...
In any case, I bit the bullet and will have a chance to try them out side-by-side.

I hope it's not too bad. When I detected just a hint of lag while using the S-pen in LectureNotes on a custom ROM, I found it unusable.

Honestly, I take notes on lecture notes everyday and if you can't stand lag then this is probably not the right tablet for you. Every configuration that I've tried on here has had some sort of lag and although it bothers me I really like not having to lug around a ton of notebooks and textbooks! So in the end for me the pros outweigh then come.

You're missing something then. I'm telling you, lag is a huge issue for me as well and it is so spot on. I write extremely quick and take copious amounts of notes and this thing is a champ.

No lag for me, except with multi-window on. Instead of multi-window I use various floating apps when needed, browser, pdf viewer, etc.

I can tell you I found LN much better on the 2014 version. My 2012 version was unrooted, and I kept hitting the bar at the bottom of LN hitting the home button or back button and poof I'd be out of LN until I got it reopened and going again. Also, although the screen real estate is the same, the 4 times better resolution allows for a lot more information on a page if you actually need to print the page.

Soanyone try lecture notes with the new kit Kat update yet? How is it?

It is more faster in multi window mode! Now we can use it with ezPDF for example!

Any difference in spen smoothness? How do we backup and import our notes (including audio recordings) after flashing the new rom?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk

You just push the lecturenotes folder to the external sd card. Also export your lecture notes settings.

I can't seem to notice any lag when it comes to pen input. Yes there can sometimes be stutter when switching between apps and thing like that but the pen itself has improved a lot over the original note tab.
Sent from my SM-P605 using Tapatalk

@notebooko: To backup the whole notebooks board, select `Backup notebooks board´ in the notebooks board's main menu. This will create a single ZIP file and issue a share intent so that you can directly transfer the ZIP file to your new device. To restore the notebooks board from such backup, select `Restore notebooks board´ in the notebooks board's main menu (note that this entry is only available if the notebooks board is empty) and select the ZIP file of the backup.
To backup the settings on the old device, select `Backup settings´ in the app's settings, this produces a file `settings.xml´ in the app directory. Transfer this file to the app directory on the new device. To restore the settings on the new device, select `Restore settings´ in the app's settings, this reads the file `settings.xml´ in the app directory.

I don't get it , I'm getting unbearable lag with text entry. I can't bear to use it. It's been the same no matter the setup since I got this tablet. Is there some special setup involved?
Edit: The setup is me getting smarter. Somehow i had force gpu rendering on. Sorry for hollering while dumb.

Just updated to kit kat and restored all my notebooks and I must say that the difference in smoothness is night and day. There is no longer even the slightest pen input delay and everything is extremely smooth.
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk

For some reason, Lecture Notes became very laggy after flashing Hashcheck-Hybrid. I had CleanRom installed before and Lecture Notes was perfectly smooth when writing with the Spen.
I'm using the same settings (both fast rendering options checked) but get a ton of lag. Tried disabling those options also but got no improvement.

@forceOnature: It seems that some custom ROMs enable `enforce GPU/hardware rendering´ by default; this slows down LectureNotes a lot, as pointed out by guthrien.

I think its a dud.
It did not come preset as the video and screen shots show. There doesn't seem to be anything specific in terms of improvements other than the launcher and the lock screen. I was just filmed a video of my installing it and playing with it, but I'm not even going to bother uploading it to youtube. Not worth it.
Bummer.
If I'm not mistaken, roms should go in the development section.

Update: How do you install this with ACMEInstaller? I would like to keep my dual boot into webOS.
It took a while for me to figure out how to get the language from Chinese to English, but I say skip this. It is the CM7 buiild with tweaked settings and such. CM7 XRON-ified or even the new MIUI build are way better options.

Let me rephrase...
It didn't provide me with anything new. I already had the ICS theme for Theme Chooser, so cosmetically I gained nothing. Also, now I have a ton of chinese all over my menu and my keyboard.
Nah, I'll stick with calling it a dud.

List of useful apps - verified to work on the Note

I thought we could list useful apps we've installed, and a quick summary of why. While browsing the Market I see a lot of comments "doesn't work with X", so I figured since we are blazing a new trail with our Notes we can save each other some aggravation and list ones we've found that definitely work.
Missed Message Flasher by TomatoX. Calendar only gives you one notification of an upcoming appointment, this lets you get multiple notifications until you stop it. Works for missed calls, texts, calendar and many others. I found the test notification in the setup does NOT work, but it does work for a real appointment. Haven't tried it with texts, calls yet. Edit 2/21, so far it doesn't appear to work with texts, let me know if you find otherwise. May try other options tonight. Edit 3/5, I'm still not sure I'm getting repeated notifications for anything other than calendar items, still testing.
Opera Mobile by Opera. Can't stand that the built-in browser can't identify as a desktop browser, but Opera Mobile can.
GPS Status & Toolbox by EclipSim. Nice real-time verification of all of your GPS stats, accelerometer, level, compass. Nice bonus, shows battery stats too (temp, %).
HotSpot Toggle by Mehdy Bohlool. One-click activation of the wifi hotspot. A little annoying that it doesn't line up with the other icons on the home screens, but it works.
XiiaLive Lite by Visual Blasters. For streaming ASX/WMA. I have a lifetime Internet account with SiriusXM. The sound quality from XiiaLive is much better than the SiriusXM app - the bit rate from the Sirius app is awful. I'm using this with a free online service called MusicDock. Use their "Windows Mobile" site (mentioned at the bottom of their home page) along with this app and you are golden.
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Simple, but works to modify the audio output, including on Blutooth.
Added 2/22
Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. Same as Battery Percentage but is half the size (1/2 MB vs. 1 MB) and is easier to read IMO. No way to modify the stock indicator w/o rooting, so for now I'm using this instead.
CPU Spy by storm717. Very small. Lets you see how much time your CPU spends in each speed, including how much time it sleeps. If your battery is draining quickly this will let you see if it is ever sleeping.
Added 2/29
Word Feud by Berthussen IT. Scrabble-like game.
Added 3/05
AirDroid by SAND Studio. Way better than Keis Air - ability to transfer files, txt messaging, etc via wifi.
Music Volume EQ by K & K Design. Works well, autostarts, includes features other than just a basic EQ.
AndroSensor by Fiv Asim. Displays outputs and current draw from all of the sensors in the Note, including barometer.
Added 3/13
Screen Filter by haxor industry. Much more effective than using Dimmer (listed below). Allows you to dim just as much as you want, or as little as you want. So you can go really dark at let's say 20%, or if you just think the stock auto-brightness is a little too bright, you can permanently apply a 75% filter to dim it down just a little and still let the auto feature do its job. I'm currently trying that. Only problem is as you get to the really dark settings you get a noticable gray coloration to the whole screen - minor and an acceptable trade-off. You can set up multiple home screen shortcuts for multiple settings. Can work along with Dimmer but it is pointless, I just uninstalled Dimmer.
Added 3/23
Screen On by Konstantinos Polychronis. Keeps the screen on for selected apps, or when charging. For instance, Google Maps where you don't want the screen to turn off (and loose your position). This is a tentative recommendation - at first it was flaky (didn't keep the screen on) for some apps but seems to be better after rebooting. I'll report back after a while. After selecting your applications from the list don't forget to enable the application with the checkbox in the upper left corner.
Calendar Snooze by Bitfire-development. Adds lots of snooze options to calendar notifications, more initial notification options and more reminder notification options. I still use Missed Message Flasher for text and Google Talk, but I turned off reminders for calendar in MMF and use Calendar Snooze instead. Mostly because it allows you to set a pattern for vibrate instead of having just one long vibration. I notice it better when it pulses several times.
Added 4/9
Increasing Ring by sashomasho. Increases the volume of your ringer and/or clock alarm, so you can start off completely silent or nearly silent and increase the volume over time. Gives you a chance to grab your phone and answer or reject a call without it blaring at top volume on the first ring. Note that it increases the volume based on your current ring setting so make sure you turn your ring volume below full volume or it will appear that the app isn't working.
Can recommend but don't use anymore
Dimmer (Night Mode) by geekyouup. One-click ability to dim your display as far as it will go. The stock brightness slider will only take you to "30", this takes you to "10". A noticeable difference especially in a dark room. Screen Filter (listed above) works much better and is more versatile so I removed this app.
Can no longer recommend
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Would randomly stop modifying the audio stream even though the app was still listed in the task manager. Also had to re-start after every reboot. Found another equalizer (listed above) which doesn't have either problem. Also I think it sounds better.
SiriusXM Internet Radio by SiriusXM Radio Inc. Doesn't let you force a specific quality, and found an aftermarket solution (listed above) which sounds much better.
Battery Percentage & Temp by Global Developers Adds a battery percentage display as a permanent notification. Battery Indicator (above) is easier to read and the app is half the size of this one.
Please list your own useful apps...
Good list, although this probably belongs in the Galaxy Note Themes and Apps forums.
Some other adds:
Skitch - Evernote add-on that supports sketching. A lot like S Memo, but it has a bit deeper integration with Evernote if you're using that.
iAnnotate Lite - Download from the Samsung App Store to ensure Galaxy Note compatibility. Great tool for marking up PDFs.
Currents - Works great on the Note. The bigger screen really lets you take advantage of the magazine-like layout similar to what you see on a tablet.
I'll add Sketchbook (Mobile) to the list. Pro is still tablet only.
Also, Fruit Ninja and Spirit HD, both of which I've found are great with the S-Pen. The latter locked up and crashed last I played, though; not sure if this will be a recurring issue. EDIT 2/22 - Skip Spirit HD for now. The crashing is consistent, closing the app after two or three levels every time.

I use Mr. Number for blocking spam / private / blocked numbers. But for some reason the app thinks I'm not in the US, hence why I'm having issues with it at the moment but it's still working regardless.
Streamzoo / MyTubo - for picture editing. Not close to instagram but it does the trick.

Made a few updates to my list.
For anyone that uses a bluetooth headset and is tired of pocket dials, Proximity Service works well to keep the screen off while in the pocket. It takes a bit to get used to it with regard to how you work with the device, but it is less of of an issue with the Note than it was with my LG Optimus.

This app is meant for those of us who connects their device to their TV.
Most TVs nowadays run a 16:9 1920x1080 resolution, yet our device exceeds that with its glorious 16:10 2560x1600 resolution display. This creates a problem when mirroring, effectively giving you a smaller screen to interact with upon mirroring.
This app changes that.
I made this app so it would be easier for people when wanting to mirror their screen. Whether it be to a 1080p TV or a 900p display. I've added quite a few options, mainly the most common 16:10 and 16:9 resolutions below 1600 short-side. This way you'll be able to stick your N10 on to a 1280x800 16:10 office projector or your home cinemas 1080p projector/display.
Another problem which arises for those without Paranoid Android; Phone UI. Phone UI gets called upon changing to anything below 1440 short-side. I have no clue why, and I'm not going to go through the rabbit hole of understanding why either. That's why I added a button to reapply Phablet mode. This doesn't apply to users of PA that use Tablet mode as ro.sys.tablet does not work with AOSP 4.2.2. If you're running PA with Tablet enabled, just load up the preference manager for PA and enable it through there.

This doesn't apply to users of PA that use Tablet mode as ro.sys.tablet does not work with AOSP 4.2.2. If you're running PA with Tablet enabled, just load up the preference manager for PA and enable it through there.

Not sure if you need any help but for the HDMI detection you will want to register an intent filter for "android.intent.action.HDMI_PLUGGED" and then getBooleanExtra("state", false) in the broadcast receiver. The display density can be changed with "am display-density".
Hey, man!
Yeah I was looking through your source code for ideas, but I am extremely new (Been at it for maybe 3 days?) at this so I did not understand anything in it. I wish I did, but alas.
I've added a DPI selector as well as a new layout while figuring out how Fragments work. It doesn't follow the android guidelines very much (and looks horrid, but better than the current one), but once I finish the XMLs for this version and drink some coffee I'll try again. I would really like a layout like yours as well as an independent DPI-selector where the user can input it themselves instead of going by mine (320 - 180 by 20 increments). I just don't understand booleans I guess.
By the way, I like your shell command way better than mine. Mine reveal the commands upon toast (su -c *cmd*). If I remove "-c" it won't show up on the SuperSU toast, however, then SU only runs once.
It took me several hours just to get my implementation of SU running with fragments. I feel more for developers now. No wonder they hate piracy.
Wow this has been a rambling. Chalk it up to eight cups of coffee in the last 10 hours. Lol.
How can I restore my screen to the default settings? I select 2560x1600 but every icon get small than before.

Smaller than before? Are you sure you're not in the DPI tab? I've tested this on five different Nexus 10s and this hasn't happened once. I will upload v1.3 with an added reset button.
EDIT ADD: I've replicated your issue. Just hit the FIX button after choosing 1600p and 320 DPI.
EDIT ADD2: Version 1.3 is publishing now with harsh resets in case someone screws up something. Luckily they just do a softreboot like the FIX button, not a full reboot. Also added change logs!
I can't get this working for some reason.
The resolution certainly changes when I select 1920x1080 but the buttons at the bottom disappear and don't come back. Also, a black bar border appears at the right side.
When I hit fix it does nothing. I have to reboot.
Any idea?
Do I have to choose a different DPI?
Just downloaded and it's working pretty well!
Changed the resolution and then lowered the DPI and it's working like a charm
Hi,
- Is this app compatible with 4.3?
- What should I choose in density settings and why doesn't the app chooses it automatically according to the resolution I set?
Thanks!

While you are waiting for this app to be updated you can use the script in this link. It was updated to support 4.2.2 and 4.3 dynamically and also includes density changes to make everything look nice.

However, I would like an app that will switch resolution automatically upon connecting/disconnecting HDMI port. This app used to do so for 4.2.
Can the script you linked do it?

There is no automatic detection built into the script. Maybe combined with Tasker if that app can detect HDMI state. As I suggested, the script is only a hold over until this thread's app gets updated.
APK?
How can we download this APK? All links take you to the play store where it says item not found.
yes, it was there two days ago. I guess nex7er has removed it for some reason.
Does this app change the render resolution of the tablet completely? Because if it does, this could be used to play some more demanding games in 1280x800 to avoid lag or to be able to use high graphical settings.

Which Samsung features are you using?

When I got the phone two days ago, I spent most of my time immediately rooting and ROMing my phone. I knew I wanted to stay on TW because of some of the camera features, but I figured I'd keep all of the gimmicky Samsung features off.
However, I figured I'd at least learn what some of them do so that I could show off to my friends and family. :good: I just spent some time learning, and some are actually pretty cool. Which ones are you guys using the most?
I'll probably use multi-window the most, and just toggle it on when I need it. I doubt I'll keep any others on except for when I want to have some fun with them.
Also, would it really eat up that many resources to leave something like "quick glance" on? I know one could just as easily press the home button to turn the screen on, but this is pretty neat. Air jump wouldn't be bad to leave on either... or maybe air call-accept. AHH! What to do, what to do...
Let me know your thoughts!
Call me old school, but I still use my phone like a T-Mobile G1. All of these new gestures and "air motion" doo-dads are just not my cup of tea. I do like the host of new camera features and the bigger screen vs. my previous S3, but that's about it. It's a slick phone, and ever since I put CleanROM on it, it flies!
I do want to try out the WatchOn feature, but every time I am around my TV I constantly forget.

I kind of agree. They're a lot of fun to mess around with, but it's just as easy to use your finger to scroll a web page as it is to tilt it or wave your hand.
I forgot about the WatchOn feature. That ROCKS. When I'm lying in bed and can't find the remote I just use my phone.
I messed around with most of them but found they were more gimmicky than anything. I'm actually running the 6/6 CM 10.1 now and I couldn't be happier.

Running Clean ROM but I am using 2 Air Gesture features. Quick Glance and Air Call-Accept. They are functional and useful, especially if your hands are dirty or messy.
The only feature I find really useful is air gestures. I really like the quick status update you get when you swipe over the phone. great when I'm eating messy food (often)

That's exactly what made me try it out. I couldn't find my remote and gave it a try. It's actually pretty nice. The only thing that I can think of is Airview, the other stuff was kind of inconsistent to me. If Airview were supported in more apps it would be awesome.

I use:
The Camera features are pretty cool, I use quite a few of them often and this is the main reason I have not got to CM yet.
Smart Stay - to keep the phone on while I am reading things ... I am not sure if this is really needed though
Smart Scroll - This is helpful sometimes when reading long emails, but I think I may turn it off since it can sometimes be more annoying than not (eg. slightly tilting the phone scrolls)
Air view - I find this great for email .. I can quickly glance and see if I want to read the full message.
Screen mirroring (along with the samsung link app) - I use this to quickly show pics etc on my TV when people are over
watchOn - I actually use this much more than I expected ... it does confuse my Harmony when I try to use it to control everything, but I find it handy to change the volume or channel
I haven't really found a good reason to use the multi-window .. it would be better if it supported all apps maybe though.
I did not like the TW launcher so I replaced that with Nova Prime for now, I do miss some of the features in CM though (like widgets on lockscreen with security, etc...)
watchon is the only one i use at the moment. comes in very handy and i use it almost everyday.

As for me: Motion Control: The more smartphones become the center of our lives, the less time we want to spend tapping at them to make stuff happen. Efficiency is what these motion controls are about, particularly the Turn Over To Mute/Pause and Direct Call, which will automatically call the contact on the screen if you hold the S4 up to your ear.

Though I don't multitask much on my phone. I actually find floating apps to be more useful...like a popup browser or a floating calculator that is present over the top of whatever app I am using. I can see how some people would find the multiwindow useful. I'd probably use it for finding directions on the internet then entering them into navigation if I used it for anything.

I agree. I really dig the mute/pause/reject call stuff. The direct call is neat as well, but it was also on my S3. I think the important thing to remember about the hand motions is that they are a sign of progress so, the more you use them, the more they will lead to better things. At least that is my opinion.
I just rooted mine and flashed cm 10.1 and I don't miss any of them. The only one I used was multi view but I prefer stock android over all the gimmicky Samsung software
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
turned them all off to save battery, however just received my battery and charger kit so I'll be playing with some these a bit more
I like being able to flip my phone over and silence any incoming calls. I also find myself using air scroll a lot.
I absolutely LOVE the extras this phone comes with...minus a s##tload of bloatware.
Multi window is def a favorite. I'm an arguer on social sites (lol) so i can be doing research on Chrome (love that on here) while typing stuff onto FB. Or watching/listening to a youtube video while surfing the web. Right now, only a few apps are compatible, but obv with more updates on the software, more will come.
I def love all my hand gestures. I def constantly use it to check my phone just by waving. i love to scroll the browser and look through my gallery without touching my phone (OCD about fingerprints). Love to connect to a call by waving. Hell, (when there's a nice light source behind you) the "eye" smart stay (which is really a head detector) works awesome when i'm watching tv/watching a youtube video as well, so it does pause when you look away.
The camera is def one of the best option on this phone. crystal clear quality, and the 12 different modes are awesome!!! esp "animated" mode, takes a series of pictures of you moving, and plays it in forward and reverse constantly. pretty cool. so is drama mode and eraser mode. hell, all of them are! great zooming in (with volume button) and great up close taking too.
I LOVE the watchon app! (remote control) i have my, and my fiance's house entire systems hooked up to it (tv, cable box, blu ray, dvd player). It's also fun as **** to mess with people out in bars and change the channel/turn tv off. especially since most people don't know it has an IR blaster.
Driving mode with S voice is AWESOME! Reads out texts to you and you can reply back with all talking. I said my command "wake up" word to "J.a.r.v.i.s" like in Iron Man lol.
I jsut rooted my phone 2 days ago after owning it for a month, the best thing about that is DELETING (with file explorer, best $4 spent) all the crap you don't want on your phone, and even better is the Clean 1.3 ROM that deletes most of it anyways, but great to finish up the rest manually since all you could do when it was stock is disable it.
Since I have Verizon, I love how my ROM puts a WiFi toggle (idk why verizon got rid of it and what benefit they achieved by doing that). and it got rid of the stupid "data" symbol up top. Also how it auto enables tethering (mobile hot spot) where as on stock if you turn "on" it says you don't have the subscription for it (which is a waste of money)
Currently looking into other kernels to OC the phone to like 2.1Ghz...not much more i know, but nice. Also, if you read up online, there's a bunch of cool stuff you can do/disable to make your phone a little faster.
I just love this phone. My last phone was an LG Spectrum and before that the LG Revolution and this phone is obv just superior to them
I disabled all of them within 5 minutes of turning on the device and really haven't looked back except for AirView. I've used it a few times just to show off the phone, but otherwise it stays disabled too.
The extra screen sensitivity I *do* have enabled though...because being able to use the phone with normal winter gloves is an amazing feature.
The only feature I miss after flashing my phone is the WatchOn one. It worked better than my remotes and easier to find. No matter where I went, I had a remote. ]
I use WatchON, Samsung link for airplay on my Samsung TV, air view and air gesture. I didn't find the eye tracking software to work well enough consistently to be worth it.
The latest watchON update however disabled the ability to power on and off my Samsung audiobar. I can still program it into the universal remote however it only allows me to control volume. Where the version that came with stock let me power on the audio system.

What I did was root my phone, and then I kept TW on it for a little while. It let me get rid of a lot of the extra bloatware on it but allowed me to use the few samsung features I have liked. The camera seems to be very cool from what I can tell. There are a lot of options there. The other great part is the multi-window and gestures. Waving my hand over my phone to answer calls is great.
None of them. AOSP, FTW!
Though I do miss having the IR blaster...

I've tried Lecture Notes and Snote on my Note 10.1 2014 and wasn't very happy with those apps.
Me, too
I like Papyrus a lot, too.
I had encountered a bug where Papyrus was crashing on export of a certain note, but that is fixed now.
Thank you Papyrus!!

However, today I encountered a nasty bug....
I was editing a 32 page PDF, putting in lots of comments. Then I tried to export to PDF, and Papyrus crashed. It crashes every time I try to convert that note to PDF, which means that now Dropbox syncing of PDFs doesn't work any more - it crashes every time when getting to that document. Since you can't selectively disable syncing for one document, I can either delete my note or give up Dropbox sync to PDF....
I hope this'll be fixed soon...

See two attached sreenshots. The main advantage is that every thing is much more fluid than in ezPDF. No need
to click on an icon to start annotating - just use the pen. You can zoom, pan etc. while annotating.
And, an update to my problems above. So, you can backup to the cloud, but you can only restore all notes at once,
not a single note. So, I can't backup delete the offending note , and restore it later when needed. Too bad...

This app is very good to note, but my papyrus can not update to 1.0.0 , it cannot annotate pdf ,so i root it, and install google play, its very not lucky, my p601 is continus reboot. The only way is to flash it, i flash the singarport s rom, omygod ,papyrus can not be installed in china!

Papyrus has MUCH better performance for annotating PDFs (writing performance, ease of beginning to write, etc.). The interface is the same for PDF writing as it is for normal note taking/writing.
You can enter a view mode and export to JPEG, PNG, or PDF.
Note the PDF import is a paid add on to the free app.

S-Note does not have very good PDF import. You can only import from the "Recent" main menu. The file management is pretty poor too in my opinion. I like lecture notes better than S-Note but even with the Lecture Notes settings suggested on XDA I still don't see great writing performance.

See my comments above for how it is different. I think you would be fine either way with S-Note or Papyrus for just note taking. Both are free. I just prefer Papyrus.
I tried to use Papyrus in past but couldnt make it work with FolderSync to bakup my notes. Syncing content was limited only when you bought extra plugin. I started using Note Anytime https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metamoji.noteanytime and sticked to it. Opposed to Papyrus it offers 2GB sync service and deleting parts of strokes in its free version. It is worth trying.
Tried and deleted. Lecture Notes far exceeds it.
Via my Note 3
I tired this and love it. It's definately smoother than s notes and less complicated than lecture notes. The only issue/suggestion I have is that they put the eraser tool on the main tool bar instead of the color picker. The color picker you use every now and then if at all, the eraser is used frequently so I don't get why it's buried in a menu. Erasing with my finger makes no sense for me as I could accidentally erase something and I would prefer erasing be more deliberate.
Tried it and loved it. Deleted Lecture Notes.
Only one thing I don't like. It would be great if I could just save directly to the memory card.
Maybe somebody here can answer or refute my concerns. I gave it a quick trial.
It seems like it's either low res or now smoothed as far as pen stoke rendering goes. Any options to change this? Just doesn't look smooth. especially at the end of pen strokes.
Does importing the pdf remove searchable text. If so, i'll need to continue using ezpdf.
Is there anyway to get the gestures and the side button to work? maybe i'm doing it wrong.

1. Pen stroke rendering is not adjustable. It only has the stock mode.
2. Yes there is no search function.

for 3, the tutorial at the beginning mentioned using the side button to access selection tool and other things. They also show some sort of gesture (up/down/left/right swipe) to do a few different functions but i couldn't figure out how to use it.
