Reported Stolen G2 which was purchased on Swappa - G2 General

So here is the long story short, I bought a Verizon lg g2 back in November 2013. 4 days ago my phone stopped picking up service after I put my sim back in it from the gs3 (my g2 had died that's why I switched to my gs3). I called Verizon to see what was going on, they told me they didn't know. They asked where did I purchase the phone I told them and then they said that the phone was reported stolen on a fraudulent account. So my Question is is there any place I can sell my phone to try to get something back for it?

The black one, it was brand new
What's a good price to list it for, mint condition?

You might want to try unlocking it and use another carrier. Who ever sold you was probably doing insurance fraud. But usually when a phone is locked like that its only locked to the carrier. I had a S4 locked for tmobile. I unlocked it and used ATT . couldnt use tmobile no more

Thank you for the tip I just remembered that the Verizon g2 is unlocked default. I'm going to try a friends Tmobile sim and see if it works. I don't know what that person was doing but sounds like that is what they could of been doing because he had a lot of g2 and was selling them cheap. He is still active on swappa too.

Have you relayed this info to Swappa? I know they can't do much to help you, but hopefully they can at least take a hard look at the seller.

I've tried by emailing them and they just suggested to talk to the seller, another swappa mod told me to fill out the required form in order to he helped. I honestly am not satisfied with how swappa treated me and will not be buying from there again.
EDIT: Success! The phone works perfectly on T-Mobile. Calls, SMS & Data even though I was on Edge it worked.

Does Swappa not use PayPal? It seems like there would be more protection against crap like this.

If this guy knowingly sold you a phone he has or had reported stolen then you do have a solid leg to stand on. I would begin with you local law enforcement. IMEI numbers, IP Addresses and subpoenas to devuldge info on the Swappa users account will gain them all the info they need to proceed with filing charges. What's even better is I'm assuming most likely the phone you bought came from out of state so crossing a state line now opens the door for federal statutes. You might be surprised how willing and eager your local law enforcement might be to handle this for you, especially if you have your ducks in a row and necessary info on hand prior to your meeting with them.

Swappa checks all of the IMEI's to make sure they're clean as well, but from what Krazie1 is saying it sounds like the phone he bought was reported after he bought and activated it. Even Verizon would have told him it was clean.

Yah, I'm very well aware that Swappa checks the imei# for each listing. Plus, I understand what krazie1 has stated about the phone being reported stolen. I'm not doubting the phone was reported stolen. I'm just saying that, if you just slip your SIM card into the phone that's not yours I'd feel there's greater risk then if you take it to Verizon. I know I'd have a better chance of having the situation resolved if I took my phone to them. Especially, after it was reported stolen well over thirty days. The part that is unsettling to me is that the phone was new. I sell and buy often on Swappa so I'm not happy to hear about krazie1's situation. The seller has sold over a hundred phones. I feel, if I went to Verizon, I'd keep bugging them because of the situation. If I just slipped my SIM card in then I'd feel like I didn't have a chance. That's just my thoughts.

Gotcha -- you're saying that if they are the ones who give the all clear you have a leg to stand on later if the IMEI gets blocked. That makes sense.

How to know your note is brand new and not refurb

ideas.............
It's too new for there to be refurbished devices in stock. So new, in fact, that a customer with an online ordered phone who came into our store last week was told that in order to get a warranty-provided phone, they'd have to place a $650 hold on a credit card till they received the defective phone.

best place to buy a new Rezound??

Well no. Sometimes ebay sellers have a "surplus" of new phones and try to clear them out at a high-midrange price before the demand goes down. If it were me, I'd go the ebay route. If there's a problem with it, ebay guarantees returns and all that. I never buy directly from a person without a middleman.

I bought my Rezound new, sealed in the box from a Verizon employee who won it at work in a contest. They already had one and needed some cash.
I paid $200.00 cash for it (after ESN was verified, etc.)
Might be the BEST 200 bucks I have ever spent.
So back to the question, watch Craigslist and have the seller meet you at at VZW store to verify the ESN. You might not find NIB, but you should be able to get a good used one for a very reasonable price.
What he said. ^^^^

I have to agree with chef Thomas I've bought a whole lot of phones on eBay brand new, around a lil over 400 sounds right for that market.
I'd go that route or craigslist local. Sometimes there's similar deals in your local area and you can do the deal in person just get the ESN ahead of time, and check it then and also check it at time of purchase.
There's a tool for that by the way I don't have a link handy but can send you one.
If you buy a phone from.an individual make sure when you send them the money it clearly states it's a purchase of a phone, because you can dispute the payment and get your money back but if its marked as a gift your stuck like chuck, it used to be that way at least.

So how would that stop someone from actually doing it? If the reason they claim said "lost" phone is due to them dropping and breaking it, they likely aren't gonna want to use the old one anyway. Sounds more like a way to avoid having to pay full retail price for a replacement rather than a way to have two working devices both for the same price.
Cept you could always get a replacement for what was claimed a lost phone, which then "turns up a few weeks later." only way to screw up is leaving on the lost phone while the replacement is on the way.

The insurance you have will transfer over to your new phone. I picked up a couple of S4's for my parents a week ago and the insurance stayed on their lines. It did this automatically once the phones were activated.

Great question! Your coverage is on the line, not the specific device. While we do cover the device active on the line at the time of peril, keep in mind you may be asked for a proof of purchase should you need to file a claim. We welcome you to review the terms and conditions of your coverage at phoneclaim. com. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Thanks!

Not so sure of that. I latched on to mine via Craigslist. Happened to be a Verizon employee with an upgrade due and wanted some cash so I ended up with a brand new S4 and transfered my SIM from my Droid Razr Maxx to it and activated it. And whatever he did to help me with this process, was able to transfer my existing Asurion ins. to it.

Purchasing from a third party does come with inherent risks. For this reason, we encourage our customers to purchase directly from the carrier. If you have questions about your claim, one of our specialists would be happy to look into your claim for you. Please send us a direct message on Twitter @AsurionCares with your claim number and the best contact number for you. Be sure to include #xdaforum so we can easily identify your response. Hmmm... Is it just me that's thinking this... but when we include #xdaforum in a message... they would know that we're rooted/modded and then decline the claim? I think everyone is pretty much rooted and their devices are modified in some kind of way. Nice try though...

Actually I just called Verizon directly and explained the situation. They informed me that I am still covered under Asurion Insurance and it was simply a transfer from my previous device to this one SINCE my S4 was in a brand new state and I am the only one that ever activated via it's MIED # or whatever. Now for someone purchasing a "Used" device off ebay, craigslist, ect... the former issue of no coverage would be true in their case.

I did it and it was painless. I had my concerns but someone on another forum recommended a reputable dealer "e-bagel-tw" on eBay. He accepted my "best offer" price and the shipping was free. Since it's an international phone, it has to have AT&Ts LTE enabled after you get it. Some people have been panicking thinking they're stuck with 3G, but it's perfectly compatible once you download and install the right files.

Do you know a reliable source for these files? Just getting my ducks in a row.
I'm also on AT&T. I will say that I'd you don't already have the correctly enabled sim card, the system will give you a 3G only one of they enable the Z2 in your account. I had to go back and get them to fake the system into thinking I siding a different model so that it would provision LTE on my account.
Other than that, turn on LTE in the settings and use the system software to download the Internet settings and you're golden.
FYI, I dealt with the same seller and have the same comments about how great he is.

The tech there couldn't figure it out at first either which is when mild panic started to set in and I backed off to let him fiddle with it. Eventually, he had a eureka moment when he stumbled upon a setting that required the download of a little file that allows the phone to connect to US LTE carriers. AT&T was one of the choices. Now in my phones settings: tools...wireless networks...more...internet settings...accept...and one of the three choices is ATT.
I'm going to order one as well. Probably will use the same seller.

What were the other carrier options under US? Was T-Mobile one of them?

I saw a few people with tmobile saying they got LTE going.
Can anyone confirm the noise canceling earphones from the suggested eBay seller? Thanks

I didn't want to be a time waster and make a ridiculously low offer so, I said $850 and it was accepted.
