[Q] PC wont see phone when plugged into USB but it charges still. - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Just rooted and flashed the omni rom (love it btw) I plugged my phone up to my laptop and nothing, then my PC and nothing again. The phone charges off both though.
Thanks

Are you sure the cable is good? I've had experiences with some cables that only charged the phone and couldn't transfer data.

I have similar
Almost like the USB port gets a little loose with gravity. If I rest the phone and the cable on the desk, I can't maintain the USB connection. If I put the phone near the edge, and let the cable hang over, it puts just enough torque for the data connection to work.
Happens no matter what cables I use.
I've thought about asking HTC, but I have a feeling it means it goes in for repairs.

Preventing charging when connected to PC

I use my S2 tethered to my laptop (via USB) but what it means when I'm away from a power source is my laptop discharges quicker because it's charging the phone. So I end up with dead laptop battery, fully charged S2.
I'd like to be able to not have the phone charge when connected.
I've heard there are issues with creating WiFi hotspots? It didn't work for me on first attempt so I didn't pursue it further.
Possibly if you cut the +5volt and ground wire in the usb cable it might work, then you'd have only the +/- data wires. Just do a bit more research on this as im just thinking out loud, no idea if this will actually work.
In case you use Siyah-kernel, adjusting the charging current is also an option.
WiFi-hotspot-tethering should work, too, however, it will also give faster battery drain of the mobile (and the laptop also has to keep WiFi active).

Atrix USB Broken?

Right, got a bit of a funny one here;
My girlfriend has 'adopted' my Atrix now I've moved on to the One X, but recently it's developed a rather frustrating issue in that the USB port appears to be broken. For charging, and data, even in recovery. I took it to bits to make sure there wasn't anything shorting out or dry solder joints (not that you can actually tell with the way the Atrixs Micro-USB port is designed) and it seems fine - in fact, I checked for continuity from the end of a USB cable connected to it to the pins at the back of the connector (I could reach) and all seemed okay so it's not the actual pins in the port either.
The phone always powers on when off when a USB cable is connected, but I assumed it might still be able to do this so long as +5v and GND were still connected (but then it should charge even if data doesn't work)
I'd probably never have gone to the effort of taking it apart if I'd realised that if I dump it in RSD or Fastboot mode it shows up on the computer fine.
What could be causing this? It really doesn't make any sense at all to me.
Edit: And of course, it's now sat, charging without using an external battery charger fine for the first time in days. I can't get it to do it at all now. Damn thing!
I have this exact same problem, when turned off, my phone recognizes the usb cable and starts up like normal, but when on, if I want it to connect to an ac port or computer, I have to wiggle and shake the usb connection until it charges and it can take anywhere from 20 seconds to 20 minutes. I swear I was about to throw my phone at a wall

Be careful of some wall chargers

Hi, not sure if this is specific to my HTC Sensation 4G (rooted), but standard T-Mo issue ICS 4.0.3), or more generalized, so I'll post this here. I have had no trouble connecting my phone via USB to my PC for charging, nor the car adapter, nor the AC to DC cable that came with the phone. However today, I attempted to put the phone with another wall adapter with a USB cable slot, so I can charge it in another room, as I have a spare USB to micro cable. Once I plugged the phone in, it started cycling thru all kinds of screen real fast, like email, messages, phone log, music player, then started playing a music track on it's own. I went to get control of the screen, but seems it pretty much froze. So I had to remove the battery and put it back in. Fine till I plugged it in to confirm it wasn't the phone itself. Soon as I plugged it in, started doing the same thing as before. So I again did the battery thing, and plugged it into my PC, and all is fine again. Just strange, guess the idea here is to watch your device when you use a new cable and/or charging system to make sure the phone doesn't go wild like it did for me. Again, can't tell you if just my brand and model, or this is general with more makes and models, so be aware.

[Q] USB is broken?

On my TF201, about an hour ago, my USB connection to it just dropped. No loose connections, brand-new cable. I had thought it was just a bug in my USB drivers, so I quickly unplugged/replugged the device. No connection. I rebooted both devices at least 2 times, and still no luck. I figured that I might be able to determine what's wrong by connecting the cord to the wall plug. It charged just fine. after that, I assumed that it was the computer's USB port, so I plugged my phone into the same port. Was able to get adb connected to my phone, no issues. My question is, How could I determine what the issue is, without RMA'ing it or resetting it?
(Also wondering if me connecting a flash drive to the keyboard dock with it showing up for a split second then going away is any indication of anything, I'm just going to assume the worst and say the USB is shot)
I have the same problem bro. I don't know what to do I am be very pissed. I read somewhere on xda a guy had a problem with his epic and took a qtip with alcohol and cleaned the contacts and it worked. I will try this tomorrow and get back to you. I have tried other pc but nothing works and I hate not having root and I add-on considering selling my prime just because of this
Kinda have it working, in the sense that the USB cable, when connected, will make the device show up in Device Manager as an "Unknown Device", but much past that, I'm not sure. I don't have the device near me right now, I will on Monday, but once I can, I will try the alcohol trick, it worked for my phone, and the keyboard dock. (BTW, I did blow into the USB port, and now the devices attached show up for 45 minutes - 1 hour before they disappear, and also, when connecting an SD card into the dock, it shows up, but on the case that the micro SD is not connected in the device (Dunno if it does this normally or what)

[Q] Charges at a certain angle.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0, and lately it won't charge naturally (it doesn't charge when you just plug the USB cable to the port and to the wall), but you need to charge it a certain angle (eg move it until you hear the charging sound but afterwards it won't charge when you remove it!)
I have the original Samsung adapter that came with the SGP Box, but I replaced the original USB cable with another one because of the charge-at-a-certain-angle problem. I changed my USB cable thrice now, but the problem persists.
The weird thing is, it charges perfectly on a BLACKBERRY CHARGER. Although the problem is still there when I charge it with the BB charger, it never got to the point where I had to apply so much pressure on my tablet.
I just want to know what is causing this problem and a solution. I can't always use the BB charger since my sister brings it with her to school everyday. -_-
I had the same problem with my Galaxy SI. I was forced to place a book directly under the usb cable so that the phone sloped downwards. I had different luck with different usp cables. My girlfriends usb cable -that was relatively new worked fine as it sat quite snuggly/tight. Others, new or old, that did not sit as tight did not work.
Take you phone to a PC hardware store and test a few.
Hopefully you will find that it is the usb cable that is worn and not the inside of the phone.
Thanks, I'll try that out!
