Note 3 Waterproof? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Guys, I accidentally put my Note 3 (From Sprint) near the toilet when I was taking a shower... then someone called and the phone as usually started to vibrate and ring, then was when I heard the drop... it took me like 30 seconds to take him out and for my surprise it was DRY. I removed the battery cover, it was dry, the battery dry, the white patch was white, the screen was working like as usual, some water drops there that I clean faster with a towel, I shake it and some water came out but, nothing was damage, nothing even the speakers, I mean... like if nothing happened...
Did you experimented something like this, is the Note 3 at some point water resistant (with a certification) without telling us?

Woot you have a swimmer! :good: , but really it is a interesting tidbit.

Wouldn't try that again!

Wasn't able to thoroughly test this, when dropped into the toilet, it landed on a turd which allowed it to bob safely above the dark deep below. Will try again tommorow when I have Mexican which will solve today's solidity problem.

[Q] Water in mah Vibrant=Capacitive buttons don't work?

Here's the deal folks...my mom washed her Vibrant in the washing machine a few days ago. 2nd Vibrant by the way. Anyways, pulled it out, threw it in some rice, got LOADS of water out of it and voila! Amazingly, after being through an ENTIRE wash and rinse cycle...it basically works! Everything...screen, cell radio...everything, except for the buttons. My question of course is why does everything else work except the capacitive buttons? They light up, but pressing them doesn't actually make anything happen. If anyone has been through this, please let me know what you did to fix it. Help a mod out anyone? THANKS!
Perhaps there is still a little moisture in there preventing it from reading the touch. Just a thought, haven't had to deal with this. *knocks on wood*
Edit: if thats all that doesn't work. I'm sure a replacement part would be relatively easy to install. Beats the price of a new phone...

Crack it open and look for any white mineral deposits that may be on the mainboard and clean them off. Of course let it thoroughly dry out again. I have used a toothbrush and alcohol to clean them in the past.
Sometimes that can help.... Good luck!
Open phone take out everything battery sim etc.
Now just turn it on its back and leave for a hour or so eventually if there is water it will drip out if you notice little bits of water on the thing you put your phone on then there's probably more water in and do the rice thing again. Can't give much more suggestions than that.

Wow...I always knew these vibrant phones are not easy when it comes to dying.
I have sorta a related story as well....
I'm in Canada right...and once when we had 15cm of snow amidst -20C or -4F, I needed to go shovel all the snow mess off the ground.
I had my T959 in my big ass jacket's pocket so its all nice and warm in there...but once I came back to the house, I noticed it was wet from all the sweating. Damn, that snow shoveling is a real hard workout for reals.
Anyhow, I opened my Vibrant up as per this guide on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvt6atrin8
There's no traces of water and my buttons still will not work, they do light up but that's it.
I'm not into warranty, I love to get in and pull and push...play engineer sorta. Didn't work...now I might be looking into buying some spare parts.
Funny thing is the rest of the touch screen is still super responsive even when I'm out in minus weather...just these heat sensitive touch buttons grrr.

Went swimming last night...

Lemme tell ya about yesterday at the river standing on the dock drinking a beer and watching fireworks. My brother-in-law thought it would be SO funny if I took a little night dip in the marina and gave my slightly intoxicated self a nudge in that direction...yup. I actually thought it was hilarious when I climbed out and was laughing while popping another Bud. But wait, yep, my phone is making some strange noise in my pocket...sounds a bit like its choking! Fished it out, it flickered, then died. Than I punched him in the mouth. No REALLY. Spent today babying it and drying it out and it works except that there is river water in what looks like 3 different layers of the screen. Anyway, he's paying the deductible and my new one is on the way. Ugh, it's killed me to even look at it all day. My girlfriends been very happy and I haven't hit F5 even once in the root threads so I guess thats a plus. Just wanted to share my misery with some like-minded peeps, seems like everyone I know just doesn't understand...
Punch him again.

Lost cause, you're talking about a dude that refreshes by hitting F5.
Sorry to hear of the unfortunateness. Good to hear your getting another courtesy of brother-in-law.
The EVO line of phones seem to be a fairly robust lot. I left my table at a bar to fetch another drink and return to find my 4G in a pool of spilt vodka/sprite. It didnt turn on a first but once I took it apart (completely) and dried it out, it started it up fine. It also had turned (3) moisture indicators pink.
1. One indicator on the battery
2. Second in the battery bay
3. The third on another board inside the phone
Luckily it didnt have any water on the inside screen.
A friend has a 3D and spilled a Taco Bell sweet tea on it. Sticky stuff. Still works...
@event....nice one douche. Should've saved that haymaker for you I imagine. Thanks for the replies everyone else. I'm always happy to get a new phone regardless. Hope everyone had a good 4th...

I think he meant it as a compliment, maybe. Being addicted to root is a badge of honor, for some... of us, lol
If you're in KY near water then there's a good chance I'm close enough to come get 3d video of you punching him again, or maybe asking to see his phone then throwing him in for a swim.
That does suck man. I almost had to go back to a bb curve for a few days when I broke my evo, the horror!
a new one? you mean refurbished .. I'd make him buy a BRAND NEW straight from sprint for 500 .. most expensive push ever.

I've found myself in that situation far too often, I love to go fishing, and sometimes forget I have a phone in my pocket. Well I've gotten into the habit of when I'm gonna be at or near water for awhile I slip my phone in a ziplock in my pocket. lol
Seems stupid but hey I saved my EVO4G a couple times lol

i had a bricked mt3g with a vodafone splash screen and went for an exchange from tmobile and didnt wanted them to know that it is bricked by the vodafone spash screen. i took a jug of water and poured into the phone carefully so it didnt mess the indicators and then plugged it in and booted, still worked, then i microwaved it for a few seconds until there were some sparks, took it out again booted, idk what htc puts in their phones but they do survive the utter torchure. I ended up disconnecting a wire on mt3g on the inside so it would short out and didnt boot and finally got an exchange. for my n1 it fell off from 8 feet just a dent, fell off 3 floors onto trampoline nothing, fell off 1 floor another dent, fell of 2 floors on its edge broken screen ( no broken glass just screen ) its survived too much torchure. Have HTC Magic 32a bought it on launch still works perfect =O

I had the same thing on the mytouch, I just mailed it back to them with the voda splash screen and prepared to play dumb if it was ever brought up. They never asked any questions.
since ur already getting a new one. Try putting that one in a bowl of Dry Rice. Might as well see if the rice sucks the water up and you have an extra 3D its worked for me on some phones.

Since the device is so new... the chances of him getting a brand new one is very high... $100 deductible may just send him a brand new phone.
Yeah, I'm hoping the $100 gets a brand new one sent to me. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow and see. As far as the rice goes, I let it sit in rice for about 24 hours and though the phone is dry, there are still the three different layers of water inside the screen. One layer of water banding, one layer of large droplets, and another layer of banding running the opposite direction. Really strange to look at...
@event- apologies to you, I'm usually a little more grown-up than the name-calling. Was just in a foul mood last night over this. I do run a firefox addon to auto-refresh xda.
There are not 3 layers of water in your phone, just one, it's a 3D phone remember, it's a feature.
Anyway sorry to hear about killing one already, glad you are getting another.

[Random] Did your s2 ever fall? If yes, share the experience :D

Well,it's a random thread as the title says, all you have to do is comment IF you accidentally slipped your s2 and made it fall on the ground.
You can mention:
•How did it feel?
•What damages did it cause.
•How many time had it fallen?
•or anything else you want.
I'll start the thread,Mine has fallen 4 times since i bought it back in december 2011. It fell 3 times in one day and once just a while ago (making the idea pop in my mind about making this thread )
Thank God it has not been injured yet and i hope it stays that way
So share your experiences and press the thanks button if you enjoy the thread! cheer!

•What damages did it cause.
Nothing Silicone protector Ftw.
•How many time had it fallen?
Since I bought it? like 6 or 7 times.. when I'm too tired I just throw it at my bed expecting it not to fall but it always does because it bounces alot XD
•or anything else you want.
It fell off once while I was running on the treadmill, THAT hurtd.
4 times
Once on a stony road, the back was popped out, I was freaked out but it was okay
The rest 3 times were on my house's floor, all about 1 meter, all is ok, i dont think iphone could siffer that.much, im satisfied

Have had the phone for 3 months, only one drop so far :|. Fell from waist height to a solid rock floor, exactly on the top left corner. No damage to the phone, just a slight bump to the case. Coincidentally exactly the same day I bought the case.
Biggest sigh of relief when I picked it up and saw it was fine.
I dropped mine from a 5th floor balcony. Works fine.

[Q] Dropped in the Toilet

Well, after a week of owning a new G3 I managed to drop it in the toilet. I pulled it from the water after about 3 seconds of being submerged, stripped the back cover off and pulled the battery. I then disassembled the entire device so I could get it dry. After disassembly I put every piece in front of a small fan for 24 hours. I inspected everything before I began reassembling my phone and to my surprise my device booted normally. I have been using my G3 quite heavily for the last 2 days since the toilet incident and have found nothing wrong or out of the ordinary while in use. LG, I must say, has built quite a robust device. My only question to other G3 users that have dropped theirs in water, did your G3 start acting up later on in life?
Considering the G3 is not water proof, I'd say you got lucky. Would be interesting to hear if others experienced the same as you though.
I felt pretty darn lucky after I assembled the phone and it booted right up. I haven't experienced any hiccups after 3 days of heavy use now.

There are actually videos of it sitting underwater for hours on youtube. Many think LG didn't want to pay to have the phone officially rated.

Was it before or after you had used the toilet?
This is a big fear of mine - we all bring our phones with us when we sit upon the porcelain throne, and every time I'm maniacally careful to put it way far away of the bowl. Glad yours survived its plunge!
Thank goodness it was before. Haha. I just sat down and bam, in she goes!!

I actually use it in the shower from time to time for music and it gets sprayed on but I do use a case but it doesn't cover the ports and I don't have any problems with mine so I think it's secretly water resistant but LG just didn't want to advertise that for some reason

That's taking a risk. I have a blue-tooth speaker for the shower and that's what I use. Not taking the chance on getting the wrong drop of water that gets in and destroys the phone.

Water Resistant?

While visiting a friend's farm pond yesterday, without me knowing it my LG G6 jumped out of my pocket and landed in shallow water. I didn't notice it missing (soaking) for about 20 minutes or so. Eventually found it, dried it off and 24 hours later, it still seems to be working fine (knocking on wood).
We'll see if things stay the same, but so far, so good. Thought you might want to know.

You should be fine, the G6 has IP68 Water resistance, meaning it should be perfectly capable of withstanding being under as much as 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes, and even then these are safe estimates, I have purposely washed mine in a sink as well as ran intensive apps (benchmarks/stress tests) with the phone underwater to cool it XD. still works great!
I've seen video of the G6 filming in the ocean taken by scuba divers. They said in the comments below the video they washed with fresh water and dried with a cloth.
Am wondering if this good for the phone long term... especially in regards to corrosion.
Any ideas? (Can i use this while swimming at the beach?)

FWIW, I still haven't had any issues with my phone since my "incident" n January. No corrosion, no charging issues. I took it to the beach last week, but managed to keep it out of the ocean.
