[Q] unable to get to bootloader or fastboot - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
i am trying to install CWM recovery on my phone (eventually want to install custon rom)
The phone is a huawei inspira, there no development for this phone. No info anywhere..
Withins the phones readme, it says its a U8666E, so going by the little development for that phone i am trying to install CWM.
I was able to root the phone, and i think i unlocked hte boot loader too (using the unlockbootloader.zip).
I have tried really hard, but am not able to install CWM as the phone is not coming in bootloader mode.
if i press hte power + vol down button phone is stuck in huawei logo (as it should) but PC does not detect it.
If i reboot bootloader (from adb) it just does a normal reboot.
i have tried a whole lot of things (new pc / usb port / cables / drivers etc etc). I every tried putting recovery on sdcard and flashing from terminal emulator of phone with no luck..
i am at a point where i am ready to flash the rom directly.. (risky i know).. but looks like everythong i want to do required me to go to bootloader mode.
I am not begening to think the carrier of my phone (tracphone) has locked the phone so i cant get into bootloader mode.
an any of you experts help me with my problem?
1) how to verify if the bootloader is unlocked?
2) can i flash CWM OR even a custom ROM with out getting into bootloader mode?
3) i have done a nandroid backup of the phone and kept a copy on external SD as well as PC< how do i restore the backup (if required) without CWM?

[Q] how to flash without fastboot? Brick phone first?

Hi,
my phone hard resets every boot and the command:
adb reboot bootloader
only restarts the phone , which then runs recovery, resets and then boots android.
The only thing I can think of is to use a root file manager to wipe everything in sight (and with it whatever it continually sending the phone into recovery) and then hopefully it will be able to enter fastboot.
I'm an IT pro but linux and phones are out of my depth. Please help.
where is the recovery files located... can I delete them and hopefully brick the phone to be able to get it in fastboot?

[Q] Create stock recovery update.zip from CWM (6+) backup?

I have two identical nexus s phones.
Phone 1:
- has no usb connectivity, and thus can't be used with fastboot or adb
- unlocked bootloader
- stock jellybean
Phone 2:
- rooted
- has CWM 6.0.3.1 installed
- stock jellybean
I've taken a backup of phone 2 and want to flash it using the stock recovery on phone 1. I'm on OS X.
I've found a couple threads on this but they're all leading to dead ends. One used a utility called unyaffs, but the CWM file format has changed to use hashed blobs so that 's not going to work.
I've also seen a couple posts saying that CWM had a "soon to be released" option to create an update.zip file, but I don't see that option. Those posts are from last August. That sounds great if it existed and the image could be used with stock recovery.
All I really need to do is flash the bootloader from phone 2 on to phone 1 (I previously flashed the wrong bootloader on phone 1 which led to the loss of usb, which is what I'm trying to fix.) I tried zipping the correct bootloader image from the google download page and installing from stock recovery but it refuses to flash that image. (Not sure if fastboot images can be flashed in recovery mode?)
Argh, need a little help here.
Thanks in advance.

ok your post isnt making sense. first of all how did you flash thethe wrong bootloader to phone 1? and when you compare the phones bootloaders, what is the bootloader version number for each one? so what youre saying is that phone 1 will never give you an adb connection at all, even when youre booted into android? when you plug phone 1 into the computer from within android what happens? and when you boot phone 1 into bootloader and execute fastboot mode then connect it to your computer do you see anything when you run the command ./fastboot devices? or ./adb devices when youre in adb mode on your phone? if your computer can see phone 2 and not phone 1 at all via usb then there is likely a problem with the usb port on your phone 1. you should be able to boot directly into fastboot mode by holding vol up and power button while powering on the phone, then it should take you straight to fastboot mode where you can then connect to the computer. remember to put the phone in fastboot mode then connect sometimes the computer wont see the phone if it was already plugged in upon entering fastboot mode/

I was trying to downgrade the phone to ICS using the factory image from google. I picked the wrong image from the google site (picked soju, needed sojus) and flashed it using fastboot. As soon as I flashed the wrong bootloader the USB connection stopped working so I didn't flash the radio or os. I no longer can connect to the phone using fastboot or adb, usb debugging stopped working. The USB debugging option is set in developer options. So, trying to get the phone working now without USB. Hope that makes sense now. :good:

[Q] First bootloop, then stuck in CWM

I tired to restart phone after noticing that WI-FI isn't working (maybe my internet was laggy, don't know). After restarting phone was stuck on LG logo, i tried many times but again LG logo.
Then i started recovery, and wanted to flash some new ROM. But my CWM won't recoginze my SD card (to add, i wasnt using SD card with this phone). I tried other SD but problem stays. I google it and found out that maybe CWM needs update?
Version of CWM Recovery v6.0.3.1
This shows up when recovery starts..
E:Cant mount / cache/recovery/command
E:Cant mount / cache/recovery/log
E:Cant open / cache/recovery /log
E:Cant mount / cache/recovery/last_log
E:Cant open / cache/recovery/last_log
How to unbrick phone now?
Unfortunatly don't know what ROM was flashed before, or is bootloader unlocked or not. (coming from LG 3D, LG l9 was present. LG 3d methods for flashing is diffrent, so im little confused how to start anything now)
To add that phone now cannot turn on without charger pluged in. Powering on was OK in first few time...
First and important question. Did you unlock your booloader? If yes, you can install cutom roms. If not, you can't install custom roms.
Did you also try to enter SV mode?
1. Power off phone
2. Press and hold volume up
3. Connect phone by usb to PC
4. Wait few sec
5. SV mode should appear.
When you are in SV mode, you can restore stock rom by official LG program.

I started S/W upgrade, and in upper corner it says Bootloader Status: unlocked. So bootloader is unlocked for sure then..
If i manage to update CWM will that solve my problem with SD card? After that just to flash ZIP from recovery?
O something else?

Thanks, now really noob question..
I googled how to update recovery on L9, and found methods with installing some APK, but as i cannot start system how to flash then?
There is 2 ways to install new recovery.
You can flash .zip in old recovery, reset phone and you will have new recovery.
You can also flash new recovery by fastboot. You need to have .img recovery.
Can you reset to fastboot in recovery options?

Not sure how to enter fastboot. Cannot see restart to fastboot in CWM..
You can try to enable adb in recovery and use command "adb reboot oem-unlock"

Can i flash to stock rom from S/W menu? And what i need if can?
You need phone + usb + pc + lg flash tool (just download it) Connect your phone with SV mode and let program find rom, download and install it.

Not sure what to try next.
I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344 stays on 15%, and PC cannot see phone
this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190 , someone sad that this worked becaause first method didnt (was same problem as mine, how i understaned ..)
and tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748384 , stuck after 6 sec (something like that). I readed that maybe BIN was corrupted (because of conversion from KDZ to BIN), now ill try with thid BIN http://uploaded.net/file/j32p8p7y/from/xh3dqq ...
What next.. S/W mode says Bootloader unlocked, and before all this phone was using JB..
I still didn't succeded to recover my phone.
My computer simply cannot see my phone, i tried all tools that were avalible. On 3% to 7% (on updating), just says that phone is not connected.
Strange thing is that i managed to flash V20H_00.kdz two times. Every single time i do the same but only that 2 times flash was successful. One time was with "offline method" and then with "LG flashtool 2014", after that flashing i got dead android with red triangle both times.
Then i wanted to flash v20c_00.kdz , but cannot pass 3% to 7% on flashing AGAIN. I'm frustrated !
I tried to flash on other computer but again, phone is not recognisable.
What to do now?
Can i flash ROM with fastboot ?
UPDATE.
I started upgrade recovery with LGMobile support tool, and finished flashing. But AGAIN i got dead android with red triangle!
Now what to try!?
Update
I even tried to flash ROM on WIN XP, but nothing. Again proces stops on 3% (then quckly) jump to 7%. And thats it.
Strange thing that when i start UPGRADE RECOVERY on Official LG TOOL (i think thats official), program download 500mb+ KDZ and process is successful, but i get Dead Android with red triangle..
Anyone have any advice? What to try?

Help With a (Potentially) Soft-Bricked Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

Hey guys,
I am sorry if I am in the wrong place or am asking something wrong. This is my first time using these forums (and forums in general). If I need to be somewhere else kindly redirect me.
Anyway, I was with Verizon for a while but after some shady stuff I decided to break up with them. Beforehand I had bought outright a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Because I did not want anything Verizon on it I decided to root it, and flash a good ROM onto it (Cyanogenmod was my idea, but at the time I don't think they supported it? I'm not good with ROMS). Anyway, the rooting was completely successful and I had a custom recovery (TWRP) installed. I was ready to flash the ROM. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and grabbed the wrong ROM. What ended up happening is when I attempted to reboot after "flashing", the device didn't show anything on the screen and just kept vibrating. After some digging around I found it might be "soft-bricked". I had at one time found a guide that told me how to undo this by using SDK Tools and Fastboot Mode (blue LED), but cannot find the guide anymore.
I was wondering if ANYONE could help me undo this mistake, and get the tablet back to it's original state or with a nice compatible ROM. I am currently in Fastboot mode and it is plugged into my ASUS Laptop running Windows 7. Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much for taking time to read this.
EDIT: So a breakdown is I cannot interact with the tablet directly. There is absolutely no interface. Just a screen that won't turn on. Meaning if there is a method it can't be done on the tablet. The old guide I found was explaining how to do it through Windows while the tablet was plugged into it via USB.
Also the bootloader was never unlocked so I think that was also an issue.
First of all, if your bootloader is locked, you cannot install CM because you cannot change the Kernel. You can only use Sony-certified Kernels which won't work with CM. So Sony-based ROMs are your only options
But what you can do is:
- Go into fastboot mode (turn off your tablet, connect it to your PC and press volume up. If the blue LED shows up, you are in fastboot)
- With fastboot, you should be able to flash a ROM (preferably Android 4.4, so you can root again)
- Then root, install dual recovery
- Flash the correct ZIP
Alternative:
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash recovery
- Flash CM

Can you simplify this? Where do I find the ROM (again, this was a tablet from Verizon so I assume on top of the Sony ROM I need the Verizon version of it?) And I understand I cannot install CM unless the bootloader is unlocked; do you know how to do this?
I'm confused by the first set of instructions as I cannot use the tablet directly. How will I flash the ROM (and which is the right ROM and where can I find it?) through the computer since the tablet can't be interacted with. There is absolutely no interface to interact with whatsoever. Which ROM do I download for the Verizon Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and how do I flash it using Fastboot? I assume I do it thru my computer?
Sorry, but you'll have to Google a little bit - I haven't had your exact problem.
But as long as you can get into fastboot mode, nothing is lost.
There also is the Sony ftf tool or so, the Windows program name is Emma. This should be easier than using fastboot.
Also there is a sony site for bootloader unlocking. You can check whether your bootloader can be unlocked at all.

Bootloop problem on Xiaomi Mi8 Lite

Hello,
Just to put in case, currently I have a Xiaomi Mi8 Lite, Global ROM, Globad version (or at least that was described in Amazon) for a few weeks only. Last Saturday I received a notification on the new OTA MIUI update to version 10.3.1.0. I installed it in a normal way, it rebooted and then the Mi Recovery 3.0 menu popped up, with only 3 options: Reboot system (which takes takes you back to the same menu), Wipe Data and connect to Mi Assistant (which doesnt' work when connecting to PC). Appart from this, I have access to Fastboot by Vol- + Power button.
I have guarantee and I will return it back, so that doesn't worry me, the biggest problem is all the data I have there. I didn't have any back-up of my information/photos... nor uploaded in the cloud, and I really need to get them back.
I have tried to access through adb and get them via pull, but unfortunately I had not activated USB debug mode. Moreover, I can't install TWRP as the bootloader is locked, and if I want to open it, it will wipe all data.
To sum up, I have no USB debug enable, bootloader is locked and I want to save the data, anyone knows if there's a way to do it? Would it be possible to activate USB debugging via adb/fastboot somehow while on recovery?
Sorry if anything's unclear, and thanks in advance for any help!

up!
1. Hi , us I know that is not posible when USB debugging is not active !
2. If you are thinking about unlocking bootloader that will wipe all your data!
3. For problem that your device is stuck on recovery maybe bacause you updated your device with low that 40% and it is suck some way.
I should try in your place just to flash boot.img from 10.3.1.0 with fastboot and see if your device is boot up , so just to boot normaly to backup your data and after that do factory reset but remove all accounts !!! After that put your phone on charger and make sure your battery is fully charged, and then flash full stock firmware and again wipe data and do factory reset.
Download stock firmware from here:
https://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.3.1.0.PDTMIXM/miui_MI8LiteGlobal_V10.3.1.0.PDTMIXM_8f2efd3fd2_9.0.zip
Extract just boot.img and logo.img from (firmware upgrade folder) .
Do at your own risk ! ( I'm not responsible if you somehow lost your data!)
I face the same problem, the phone started to stuck in a bootloop overnight
Even if I try to enter to Fastboot it will reload in 2 sec
Any idea what to try? (it's stock, bootloader not opened, USB debugging is switched off)
