[Q] Cyanogen sync with gmail address book, and Swype - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I didn't find a Cyanogen specific forum so I'm posting here.
The last stock update to my Galaxy SII somewhat messed it up, it started running boiling hot, drining the battery without showing any CPU or anything. So today I installed the stable CyanogenMod (10.1.3) and so far it doesn't have this problem.
Two important questions:
- how do I get my gmail address book inside the phone ? Under Settings/Accounts I only see CyanogenMod, and trying to add one gives me Corporate (Exchange), CyanogenMod (again) and Email.
- how do I get Swype ? It's not available from the Language&Input settings.
- how do I view the external SD card from the file manager ? It only shows the internal storage.
OK, that was 3. Thanks

Did you also install the gapps package when installing CyanogenMod? The Google Account is only available when you install gapps.
CyanogenMod doesn't come with Google Apps and accound and other Googly stuff preinstalled, due to licencing issues. You have to flash gapps separately in recovery, after installing CyanogenMod. You can read more about gapps and download them here.

Swype is available here on Play Store. There is also a free version, you can find it on Play Store as well.
Note that to be able to install apps from Play Store, you have to install the gapps package first.

Go to File manager - Settings - General Settings, and under Access Mode select Root Access Mode. Press allow on the dialog that pops up, and then go back to the directory listing in File Manager. On the top of the app you will see the path which you are currently viewing. Click on the / and you will get to the root directory of your phone, where you can find a folder called externalSD or something similar. That is your external SD card.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I didn't know that. I got it installed and everything is back now, even previous apps. Great.

I had it on the stock phone, so I simply did not think about that. Thanks again.

That solves it, but requiring root just to access sdcard files is a bit dangerous if it can access any system files as well...

Well, root access is not required to access the external storage card, but you have to enable root access to be able to go to other directories than internal SD card in the CyanogenMod File Manager. It is a bad design decision, though.
You may install other file manager apps from the Play Store, lots of them have the option to access external SD card without root. I don't have a phone with internal AND an external storage, so I can't test it, but I believe Clean File Manager will do the job fine, at least based on its Play Store description. You could also try Astro File Manager or ES File Explorer, these are one of the most popular file managers on Android.

Thank you. I used "OI file manager" and it worked fine.
I have a few other questions as I discover Cyanogen if you don't mind:
- it took me a while to get the FM radio working again, thanks to Spirit UL
- using the default Apollo music player, I don't see how I can 'Play all'. I can queue a song, an album or an artist. But I don't see how I can randomly play everything. The menu button hardly ever seems to do anything.

I'm not using FM radio on my phones, so I can't help you with that much, sorry. But if it is working now, then everything is OK.

This may be because you are using CyanogenMod 10.1. Apollo was just beginning when CM 10.1 was released, so the option to Shuffle All may not be there. I've got CyanogenMod 10.2 on my phone and CyanogenMod 11 on my tablet and I've got the option to Shuffle All present when I press the overflow menu button on the starting screen of Apollo. See the picture:

If you really don't have the option there, you have a few options:
Install a newer version of Apollo from this thread.
Install a newer version of CyanogenMod, which will include the newer Apollo. CM 11 is the latest and greatest, and a lot has improved from CM 10.1. Here is the official thread for your device. Really, you should try it.
Install another music player. I'm using NexMusic and I'm very happy.
By the way, when you reply to someone, then if you quote his post, he can get a notification that you quoted the post and find out about your new reply. Otherwise it's a small probability that he'll notice there is a new post in the thread. I saw your reply by chance, when I was searching for another thread I posted in. You can quote a post by clicking the Reply button under it.
Here's some other XDA Tips you may find helpful.

Apparently, the latest for the Galaxy SII is 10.1.3, so I'll have to wait a while or use another music player. No biggie. Thanks for the tips.

You have the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100, right? I sent you the link for CM 11 for that device in the previous post. 10.1.3 was the last release marked as stable, but don't let that fool you. I'm using nightlies on my tablet and they are running without a problem. On an popular older device, like the S II, the stability bugs have been fixed during the long development period, and now it is running nearly without problems. Yesterday they even released a M3 Snapshot build, so there should really be no major problems and almost no minor problems, for sure stable enough for daily usage. Still, I'd recommend you to look at your device's thread and see if someone reported some major problem or not.

That's good to know. I'll try nightly then.
I tried NexMusic and it's nice. A related question is that I have headphones with a 'play/pause' button and when I hold the button it brings up Google voice input. I'd rather have a 'skip to next song' function. Looked at some hardware button threads but did not see a direct solution in the settings. I installed ButtonRemapper but I also don't see distinctions for long presses there.

You can try Headset Button Controller, for me it works the best of all the apps I tried on my HD2. It has specific options for long presses and much more.

Q:How do I install this ROM?
A:Start off with a rooted phone.
Download and pust the ROM .zip file to the sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
When installing for the first time wipe /system, /cache, /data and dalvik-cache
Wipe /system. (under mounts & storage)
Install the ROM zip from sdcard.
Q:The new version is released on miuiandroid.com, where is the Galaxy S II download link?
A:Our device is not yet officially supported, therefore bmarko has to download the official release, do his magic, and release it for the S II. He does not only have to wait until it’s released by miuiandroid.com but afterwards also has to find time to modify and upload the new version. This takes some time, but normally he uploads within two, maybe three, days.
Q:When will the next release be, and when will you fix this?
A:There is only one rule in this thread:
DON’T ASK FOR ETA’S
For clarity’s sake: ETA means estimated time of arrival.
Q:Is OTA updating working?
A:No, because it’s not yet an official release. Trying it should give an error message, or may download a release for another phone. I would suggest not using it at all.
Q:There is a new version released, and I have to wipe /system, what does that mean and what will I lose?
A:/system is the folder that contains all system files, when upgrading all system files are replaced so all old files have to be deleted. But all your personal files are in the /data folder. That means that you don't lose anything personal when upgrading, all your apps will be kept too. Certain mods, such as extended settings and my gps.conf files are in system though, so you'll have to reinstall them again.
Q:I prefer MIUI in: Chinese - German - English - Spanish - Vietnamese - Italian - Hebrew - Russian -Hungarian
- Dutch - Portugese - Danish - Turkish - Polish - Koeran - French - Greek - Czech - Slovenian.
A:L10nH34Rt has ported El Afortunado's multi-language pack.
1.9.9
1.9.2
1.8.26
Make sure to boot once before flashing the .zips.
Credits to both L10nH34Rt and El Afortunado.

Q:When will the next release be, and when will you fix this?
A:There is only one rule in this thread:
DON’T ASK FOR ETA’S
For clarity’s sake: ETA means estimated time of arrival.
Q:When will Bluetooth audio be fixed? I really need it!
A:Above applies more than anything to Bluetooth Audio.
Q:I got an inexplicable bug, and the guys in the thread told me to do a complete wipe, what is this? And what will I lose?
A:A complete wipe consists of a wipe of /system /data /cache and dalvik-cache. This means that everything, except for the internal storage, is deleted. If you want to easily restore your contacts, settings and apps you will have to backup your phone. There are three common ways to do this:
1. A Nandroid backup, you can do this from CWM under back up and restore. This will create a complete system image, this is mostly used when switching ROM and you want to be able to switch back easily. When you restore this backup everything will be exactly the same as when you backed up, all bugs included.
2. MIUI built in backup, this is mostly used when you have to wipe your phone because of a bug. All your settings, apps and contacts will be conserved, except for your mail settings and account passwords, for security reasons. When you restore this you only have to enter your credentials and server settings again, system files are not backed up, so bugs will be gone. Only downside is that only MIUI can restore this, so you can't export it to another ROM.
3. Titanium backup comes in handy when migrating to another ROM. Titanium can back up settings, apps and their data. Titanium backup works on all ROM's so you can back up, flash another ROM and restore your apps and their data. Settings are harder to back up, restoring settings is possible between TouchWiz ROM's, moving them from TouchWiz ROM to MIUI or Cyanogen will give loads of FC's. Same goes for system apps and their data.
Q:The back light of the soft key goes on and off, seemingly random, what can I do about this?
A:I've created a mod that permanently disables the softkey's backlight, regardless of light sensor and backlight intensity. It's a script in init.d so you can easily remove it by removing the file from /system/etc/init.d.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27703769/Permanently Disable Softkey Backlight.zip
The script locks the backlight intensity at boot, which is normally 0. But when you have BLN enabled and there is a notification on boot it will lock the backlight when it's on. When this happens a reboot after the notification is gone will fix the problem.
This is another solution, main drawback is that you have to enable Automatic Brightness for it to work.
The soft keys respond to the automatic brightness. This is not a bug, but a feature. You can regulate this by going to display settings -> automatic brightess -> advanced options. Enable the use custom levels, and set the values for soft keys. Set all levels on 255 for always on, or all on 0 for always off.
Q:My GPS takes ages to acquire a lock, and/or is far from accurate.
A:Unless you are living in North America this is because the ntp server is set to North America. Changing this in the gps server settings doesn’t work, so you’ll have to directly edit the gps.conf file which is situated in /system/etc. But to make it easier for y’all I created CWM flashable .zips. You’ll have to flash these after every update, simply because /system and all its subfolders are wiped on update. The .zips are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233256
If your country isn’t on the list there is no ntp server hosted in your country, in that case use the zip of the closest country.
Q:The audio through my headphones won’t go any louder after four clicks.
A:This also is a known bug, there is a fix. But it’s both unwieldy and temporary. Type the following into a terminal emulator.
Code:
$ su
# /system/bin/alsa_amixer sset Headphone 31
31 is the max headphone volume, if you want to change the volume choose any value betwoon 0 ( completely silent ) and 31 ( the loudest ). But when choosing the volume rocker it ignores this setting. So you'll have to enter it manually everytime you want to change the volume.
Q:I can't access my internal storage through USB.
A:Make sure USB Debugging is activated. Enable it by going to settings -> applications -> development -> enable USB Debugging.
Q:When I reboot my phone data is turned off automatically.
A:This is a known bug, for now: just flip the data toggle in the toggles dropdown menu.
Q:No matter what the size is, the market tells me the file needs to be downloaded over wifi.
A:Open the downloads app from the launcher, and turn download using wifi off. When connected with wifi it will still download over wifi, so don’t fear for your data bundle.
Q:My phone doesn't go into deep sleep.
A:This is a bug in the Battery Monitor, the phone actually does go into deep sleep, but it isn't noticed by the battery monitor. You can check this using CPU Spy:

Q:I can't play music from my external SD card.
Q:Make sure the folder on your external SD card is being searched by MIUI Music. Go to Music -> Settings -> Filter by Folder -> *Tick the required folders*
Q:I don’t like the MIUI camera app, what are the alternatives?
A:There are a few replacements on the market. Most used is lgCamera (https://market.android.com/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera). There also is being worked on a port of the Samsung camera app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239045
Q:Video play is out of sync, or stutters.

gangsterjoop, first of all, thanks so much for the hard work in pulling this together (I wrote the litening FAQ so I know what a pain it is to write and keep updated.
btw, an approach that also works for me is to use file manager, go to external_sd, go to the music folder and then exit. the music app then scans and adds the music automatically. this actually came out of a post on this thread.

Let's hope this one becomes as big as the Litening one one day. I feel like I should do some layout, but I was quite happy I had the text finished (english sometimes takes some extra time), so I guess I'll , make it a bit more readable in the following days.
Also, miui.nl provides the SGS2 rom along with a DUTCH language pack every time an update is released. Huge props to the original dev who started translating, because he's the first I know that keeps the pack updated.
Might seem silly but could be handy at the start to say that you need a rooted phone with cwm on it. I know that most that come here will know already but there are bound to be people who will ask.
I don't want to nit pick on this nice looking Q&A thread, but were you say "and turn download over 3G on" It doesn't actualy say that, it says "Download using Wi-Fi" (On/Off)
This could be confusing to some newbie users

I have just noticed aswell when i poped out to the shop i didnt disconnect my wi-fi connection but it didnt auto change to Data (there was just no connection) can this be turned on so when wi-fi is not available it switches to Data (3G) ?
Thanks for making this thread first of all!
Due to the fact that this is an Q&A thread I think I dare to ask this. I want to try out MIUI on my galaxy S2, I know it's in an early stage. Probably after 2 days or so I'm going back to a Samsung based Rom so I will create an Nandroid Backup of my current Rom. But in the other MIUI thread you (gangsterjoop) were talking with exmatproton and he asked : You're still running that custom kernel and you said: Yea, CWM is accessible etc. By this you mean CWM is not accessible with stock MIUI kernel? If so how can I restore my Nandroid backup? Or did you mean something different ?

I tried it, mine does switch automatically. Make sure data is switched on, and give it a few seconds to initiate the data connection. If that doesn't work I'll start digging in my settings.
So please report back.

It was the other way round. The problem with the custom kernel was that in V1 CWM wasn't accessible anymore, so you had to flash a CWM kernel through Odin. This was solved in V2 of the kernel. Bmarko's kernel is flawless, so you can just restore your Nandroid backup without problems.

I would recommend downloading the latest release again. Most of the install failures are because of corrupted (not the Indian kind of corrupt , it means the download failed)downloads.
But I can't entirely understand your post, so would you mind posting in your native language? Then I can copy it into Google Translate.

I checked my mobile when i was walking back home, so it had been disconnected from my wi-fi for around 10 mins
its not a big problem for me because when i am out for a while i normaly turn wi-fi off, or if i need to my mobile while im out i make sure wi-fi is off and data is on
i also thought it auto changed as this is the norm for most smart phones now days.

thanks for the quick reply...my message was gibberish right.. hey it was because of the autofill feature and i didnt notice the errors..so what i was saying is that when i tried to flash the latest miui rom( iam currently in beta 19) through CWM recovery by putting the downloaded file in sd card..the installation is aborted due varification faliure.
so ur suggestion is the error may be due to corruption of file.(as we have Hasare in India we can hopefully remove the currption... )
edit.... i found the solution ..when i did the cache wipe again in cwm recovery, installation is finished smoothly..

No noticable differences between the roms. No apps removed or other strange stuff. For translations in notification bar you'll have to reboot the phone after applying the language.

[Guide] How to flash Google Apps.

When I installed nAa's port recently published for our Mini Pro's, I noticed there was no way to use Market, register a Google account, or use any of the Google services that comes by default on most ROM's. This is because Google Apps are protected by copyright, so Cyanogen decided to wipe them from their official ROM. This can be easily solved by flashing them, and although this is very simple and easy, I found that there isn't much talking about this. Also, I saw there was some people asking and getting no answer, so I'd like to share this. Yes, flamers, even if it is REALLY easy or whatever you may say.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Times goes on, and technology advances at insane ratios. Ice Cream Sandwich's CyanogenMod version is here, and so are its Google Apps. We, on the X10 Mini Pro community, have actually the option to install ports of this great Android mod on our phones thanks to the awesome developers we have. Some of us, like me, still decline to use CM9 or ICS ports (In my case, because of the awesome stability and every-day use of the Gingerbread ROMs out there), and thus you should know:
-If you are going to use an Ice Cream Sandwich(4.x) ROM, you should download the CyanogenMod 9 Google apps version.
-If not, if you still preffer to use a Gingerbread(2.3.x)-based environment, download the CyanogenMod 7 Google apps version, the one on the screenshot above on this post.
*I don't know your reasons, but if you would like to keep using an even earlier version, I'll list them for you:
Froyo(2.2) ROM, CyanogenMod 6 (Tiny version for our Mimmi -x10 Mini Pro-) is for you.
Eclair(2.1) is CyanogenMod 5 (Tiny version for Mimmi)
Donut (1.6) is CyanogenMod 4 (Tiny version for Mimmi)
Read ALL in nAa first post in MiniCM7 Rom thread. Look at instructions.

It just says "Flash gapps", it doesnt explain much further and that's what kept me stuck a bit. That is why I wrote this. Not the GREAT guide but will save some minutes of research to some people...
And there is a download link too ;-)

Thanks!
There were android ics 4 apps too on the list. have you tried any of them? Just curious.

Lol, market xd Not all GApps are on that package, just the basic ones. Every other Google App you need, you should download it from the market individually.
i cant. The market app doesnt show gmail and through the "web browser" market on my pc it says my device is incompatible.

Describe in detail your problem so I can add it to the main thread c:
I have a bit of a n00b side question i'm afraid. I've flashed a ROM which I love but how do I selectively flash gapps, the Nexus 4 comes without the native calendar, email etc apps, but if I flash the latest gapps these are flashed back onto the device (obviously). What is the best approach get this ROM with the latest Google services apps and not AOSP apps, I want Chrome, Camera, Calendar etc. Should I just not flash gapps and use Titanium back and backup user + system apps or just flash the ROM and then download them from the play store?
Thank you nico, Now i understand why gapp exists!

I followed instructions from a youtube video and installed CyanogenMod 9 on my HTC explorer. Before that I rooted my phone and wiped out factory cache, dalvik cache etc. I also installed one of the gapps-ics-xxxxxxxx-signed.zip (do not remember the datestamp) in the recovery mode by selecting the zip file from mounted USB storage card. Now how should I get back my backed up apps/data and google play to install more ?
N.B.; I took back up using Titanium Backup prior to taking all these steps.
Thanks in advance for any help in this regard.

Thanks Nico,
Almost 2 years later this is still useful info. My first custom Rom install since honeycomb tablet and I had know idea how to flash gApps. Should have guessed from term "flash" that you use recovery but there seems to be a dearth of details. Your post was first google hit.
Sorry for the late responses, I had totally forgotten about this thread! I don't actually know if this will be useful for the ones who asked the questions, but anyways I'll answer them here in case someone else needs them.

Wow, didn't expected to get first place on Google haha Thanks for the appreciation. Yeah, it is not that hard, but I had little trouble doing it while I was new. It's important to understand not to wipe again to flash gapps also!

It depends on how you backed them up on Titanium. Maybe you did a full system backup or just app-per-app backup. If you did a full System backup, try to restore only Data, look into options, custom restore, something like that, there's probably an option there to do that -I usually don't use Titanium haha-. If you did the app-per-app, just look into the list of apps, go to the bottom of the list, and there should appear the apps you backed up, tap on them and restore them with their respective data.
BTW, for the next time, I suggest doing a backup from the Recovery menu, and then do a custom restore > restore Data. Data is where your personal stuff is saved, so no system files will be affected. It may pass down some bugs or troubles because of incompatibility between your backed up ROM and your new one, but normally that doesn't happen.

MD5 is just a file that makes sure your file is not corrupt. If you flashed a corrupt file, you could mess up your phone entirely without any chance to turn it back, so it is important, but you don't have to care about it because it gets checked by the phone itself.

I think you can get the APK for specific apps inside of the ZIP file that you download from Cyanogen, but I don't know if you can just install them right away. If you want to try, just extract the files, delete the APKs of the apps you don't want, and compile it again.
Even though, you actually HAVE to install Google Apps because you need, for example, the Play Store. There's no problem though with having both Google and Nexus apps (Which I think should be the same ones, being the Nexus like the "official" Google phones), I am pretty sure you can install all of them without getting original ones replaced and then deactivate the ones you don't want to use on the phone's Settings, in the Application Manager.
I hope my answers someday help someone. Regards, Nico.

Latest 'Jellaxy' release : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901346 [26.10.2012 Build 5]
No gapps
I installed the AOKP exactly as per instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874920
No gapps are seen as they are not packed with the ROM. The OP suggested installing gapps from http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-devrom2810-cyanogenmod-10-android-412/ for fixing Network Location
Network Location: For working network location you have to flash latest gapps provided by KonstaT from here http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-d...0-android-412/ If it does not work first, than reboot and/or reconfigure weather settings in 'ROM Control' settings. You should be able to have weather on your lockscreen based on your actual position.

Flashing the above gapps did not work for me. I have never (or may be 1-2 times, that I don't recollect of) flashed gapps separately. Can someone guide me to doing this. JFYI, I have an ext partition too, I have tried flashing gapps without flashing any a2sd too.

Turns out it may be the CWM6 that is buggy or the isn't compatible. Dowgraded back to the good old CWM5 and gapps flash great so do the scripts :good: :victory:
Anyone having mediascan issue? I have been having this with all the jellaxy builds (CM10 and AOKP). No matter what I do most of my pictures never show up in the gallery. Apollo won't detect my music. I have tried media scan, rescan and several other apps, but no use. Pics I take from camera or screenshots I take do show up though in the gallery. But generally they too disappear on reboot.

No problems like that here. All pics showing up (using QuickPic). Apollo is also working fine for me.
I'm running the latest version of the rom (Build 5). The only issue I've found so far is battery life that isn't so good no matter what scripts or tweaks I use :/
I had Jellaxy CM10 before this one and did't have media scan issues either.
Try re-flashing the rom following instructions properly and you could also try using a different sd card.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it seems to be working for almost all the people here, though google reveals many similar cases on ICS and JB. I have reflashed the ROM multiple times. Also faced this issue in almost all the Jellaxy CM10 builds (I have tried them all ) too. Chaging the SD card? You think that will help? Anyway everything else that I could think of I have tired, will give it a shot as soon as I get my hands on some SD card.

I faced the same problem a lot of times, and still havent found a good fix for it. the scan usually works fine on a fresh install. I do have a workaround though. For pics use quickpic. For music, you can use poweramp, andless or another player with its own scanner.
However, if you have the patience, install mixzing player. reboot your phone. then open mixzing first. go into folders, then the folder where you store your music, then wait. The names of the songs should change from filenames to the id3 information. Repeat for each folder, scrolling so that the info appears for each track; all while not actually playing anything. Now open your stock player, the tracks should have appeared. If they haven't, force stop the media scanner and try again.

[GENERAL] CyanogenMod 10.1 [NIGHTLY] by OldDroid General Disscussion

Well I saw a lot of posts, queries & questions in the Dev Thread (I often have many ).. which were simply SPAM and were deleted..
But these are real problems with probably simple solutions...
So felt like creating a general discussion thread for this Awesome ROM by OldDroid...
Hope this would help solving our minor non-dev issues...
The Dev Thread here
N ya..If I have helped you anyway, Thanking me wouldn't cost you anything....
Installed it last night, so far everything works, just battery worries me a bit, not sure if it hold a whole day...
Usage since this morning
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8z0x35a5720zva1/2013-01-28 14.21.46.png
I only listened to music, no wifi, no 3g, auto brightness
It will last long. Try to set up the lowest brightness level. Im using almost the same like you. about 1 h of music a day, sometimes when needed 2G/3G for a bit. It drains fast from 100% to 60-50% and than it last normally long. I charge my battery for 1-1,5 day. Is all right.
hey, thanks for starting the tread, I couldn't post in the dev theme, since I'm a new member.
Installed it last week and it's far from dissapointing, but obviously not flawless...but what OS is?
So far:
- battery drains faster than usual, but you're right, falls down fast, but doesn't drain completelly for a while, just like the level in my car
- a minor bug regarding the audio jack: of you're already playing music when plugging the headphones it goes on OK, if you pull it out it will pause, which is also OK, but if you start the music again it won't play on the rear speaker, but on the front (telephone) speaker...
How did you guys pimp it up to make the battery last longer and the UI smoother?
In RC0 release, there's no lockscreen, my home button can't be used.
Now i'm back to previous release...
I really love this rom but the latest release dissappoint me...

SMSC Issue
Hi! I've installed this ROM like 3 or 4 times last week, but yesterday's install went a little wrong: I have the SMSC Issue, so can't send SMS.
Alredy tried the solutions all around the web that I found, like restarting in a lot of situations, modificiation or addition of numbers or hexadecimal codes from the "hidden" menu (dialing *#*#4636#*#*, etc.), taking my sim into another android phone or any non-android phone to restore the setting, again restarting a lot, reinstalling this ROM (both nightly and RC0). Still can't send SMS.
So, after a lot of research and experiences, I found out that the issue is not related to my SIM Card (because the numbers are OK and they don't show errors, but the correct info .Quadruple checked). It is (I believe) related with this ROM in both releases. I know that because I installed Lewa OS and everything works fine. I didn´t have to check nothing because It just worked fine. I can send SMS in other ROMS but not in this one anymore.
Maybe It's something in the system files, something in RILs that doesn't read the info (the info It's there, not erased), any corrupted APK, maaaaybe a file (or files) in the SD card that was written and since I didn't deleted anything, It's corrupting.
At the moment of writing this post, I installed Wayland_Ace's ROM, and I still can´t send SMS. Then installed LewaOS again and I CAN send SMS again.
What could this problem be?

To install Gapps:
Put Gapps on thee root of your SD (ie not in a folder)
Boot into CWM
Check to make sure that /system, /data, / sdcard are mounted (if not, mount them)
Choose zip from sd
Select the gapps package
Flash it
Check to make sure that /system, /data, /sdcard are mounted (if not, mount them)
Reboot
Note, Google Maps, Gmail, etc. are not included in the slim Gapps built for the Ace, you have to manually install it from the Play Store (and push it to /system/app if you want)

Great ROM, poor performance
I've installed this ROM and it's great to see that our old ACE can stay updated with the most recent Android version. Therefore, a big thanks to developer effort.
However, I'm facing several performance problems on the phone. Almost any action on it takes up to 3 seconds to complete and typing is absolutely painful, with a lot of lags. Also, FC and reboots are constant. Do you have any tips to improve performance? I've also installed Link2SD to get more space using an ext2 partition, I'm not sure whether this relates with any performance issues.
Thanks!
Hi everyone, I just want to ask if is there any way to turn the volume warning off? When I want to listen to music it's kind of annoying.

Hi everyone, I just want to ask if is there any way to turn the volume warning off? When I want to listen to music it's kind of annoying.

Just click OK. It shouldn't bother you again. (At least it doesn't on my Nexus 7)

Thanks, but it happens every time i restart the phone. I think I have to get used to it.
BTW: I downloaded the latest nightly build. The only changes I've seen so far are opening the quick settings using 2 fingers, and transparent notification panel. (and some Play Store issues) Have you guys notice any other changes so far?

send from my ace
Other change I noticed is the Trebuchet settings are not in settings but on homescreen after pressing menu button and other ringtones for alarm and such. Google play woirks flawlessly for me btw and everything else pretty much too. Never had any fc's or audio problems as well. Battery is not bad. It can last a day without problems. No tweaks or scripts. I only use the TW5 launcher (personal prefference) and the s2e flashable zip for cm10.1. Everything works like a charm. Thanks olddroid

[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][7.1.x] LineageOS 14.1 [3.4 KERNEL](Invisiblek)

The king is dead, long live the king! invisiblek has brought us the first builds of Lineage OS to the HP TouchPad. Lineage OS replaces the now defunct CyanogenMod, CM14.1 with Lineage14.1 running Android 7.1.x. .
Main issues:
Update: A new build is available here by jshafer817. This build fixes the previously mentioned problems and can be clean installed.
The AOSP keyboard crashes at boot, you can mute it and install the Google keyboard from an apk here. Edit: I've now added the Google Keyboard to the recommended default build of 20170112 here. In later builds you won't be able to login to the Play Store... So Install the 20170112 build login to the Google Play store and then you can dirty flash to the latest build and run it without issues. Try it out and post about your results. Big thanks to Invisiblek for his continued HP TouchPad support.

If the Android keyboard fc's on you during initialization, skip all the initialization that requires it. After you get to the home screen, go to Settings=>Language and Input=>Current Keyboard. Click on it and set the keyboard to the Google keyboard. You can then go back and setup the missing items.

I've got detailed info on both roms in my rom guide, second post in my install guide here. Evervolv is more evolved at this time but both are coming along well. I've had some problems pairing devices with the Bluetooth in Lineage 14.1 , the camera doesn't work. I still need to test the latest builds and see if the AOSP keyboard bug is fixed.
Thanks for these awesome guides, and for posting this ROM. After following your instructions, I'm running the 1/13 build, and I'm very happy with it. Will this tablet ever die????
Edit: With the 1/13 build, YouTube and Kindle would take a long time to load, and audio and video seemed to be out of sync. But I just dirty flashed the 1/15 build, and these issues seem to have been addressed.

I use TWRP 3.0.3.0 by Flitman and works perfectly
Are you trying to install TWRP using the toolbox?

LineageOS version: January 21 ,2017
In Settings --> touching Sound ( Settings has stopped )
It used to work before, now it does not
I do not know if this is the way this Rom is designed, but the File manager cannot see the FAT32 partition that usually gets mounted as USB media.
And we know, camera does not work.

I'll test that out and check back, I'm also pretty new to Lineage not sure about the sounds settings. Did you try using a rooted file manager like ES file explorer or X-plore could be a permissions issue.
Edit: Settings/Sound menu worked fine with the latest lineage-14.1-20170123 build

Using Root Explorer, I can verify that the, what I have taken to calling the 'ttinstall' partition, is not accessible in Lineage.
It also wasn't accessible in the previous INV ROM.
My partition is ~6GB and is 'vfat'
I can't remember how to mount it when Lineage is booted...

The USB media partition has never work from the Invisiblek Roms that I have installed and the same applies to LineageOs.
One a very positive side the stand by mode or ( deep sleep ) is extremely energy efficient. It stays 100 % charge since I installed it yesterday.
Is Amazing !

Sounds did work on the first release of Lineage, but something happen that it got broke.
Is not an issue of having root access. This is a FAT32 partition that Android sees as a USB media.
hello
thanks for a great guide! All good except when I try and skip thru the setup with the keyboard crashing. I get so far, then a white screen after "checking info" and I can go no further! I can only lock & hold to restart. Restarted a few times but end up in the same spot. Cant pull down the settings menu to do the keyb fix.
Pretty sure I followed the guide to the letter, I got a 16gb wifi.
HELP!
cheers
Try Evervolv

Hey sorry to hear you're having problem with the Lineage 14.1 build, why not try installing the recommended Evervolv build. It doesn't have the keyboard issues but the clock app may need replacing.

Ahh think I fudged thru it!
Was behaving like this coz I enabled wifi from the 1st install of KK. "forgot" my connection, then it went thru.
I could then enable dev and install google keyboard
Seems that Trebuchet is crashing a lot too
only thing now is I have no apps. tried gapps again open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170125 and still no apps until I tapped the screen as somehow the widget tips were in background and needed to be got rid of!
camera not working either..
try launching google play store and get that white screen again!
Think I may have to try Evervolv there Roland thanks. Can I just wipe and do direct install with twrp?
Was this build tested before release? or is that what Im doing now?

If you've already increased the size of the system partition with the TPtoolbox you should be able to clean install through TWRP. However it sounds like you will need to redownload the gapps package and delete the old one, no apps or play store indicates a problem with the gapps. The Camera just doesn't work in the Lineage builds yet, neither does bluetooth. These builds do run fine once you fix the keyboards(for early unofficial builds) but they aren't as fully functional as the Evervolv builds at this time and need a few more fixes.
