[Q] NABI2 Best way to remove Wings with JB 4.1.1? - Fuhu Nabi 2

I am running Android 4.1.1 / 2.3 release keys on both of my kid's Nabi2's. Question is what is the best way to remove Wings and University with JB installed? I am rooted and used fx to remove the files from the data/addon_res/vendor/app folder but I still have a Wings icon on the main Nabi page when in Kids Mode. I've searched the system using fx in root search and removed all variations of wings and university from the various directories but still can't rid myself of the Wings Challenge icon on the main Kids Mode screen..
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Go in to settings, apps, all. Find NabiMode. Clear data.

Yep, that did it. I had done that previously but I think I did it before I had deleted some of the com.fuhu.wings* files, and so the icon was still on the desktop at that point. I didn't think to clear nabimode again.
Thanks!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I noticed you said you was rooted. I have v2.3-release-keys and I tried to root mine and could not get it to root. How did you get it rooted?

[Q] building a custom rom

Hi I'm new to the development scene, I am trying to strip down a rom to remove certain programs... actually everything but the web browser, firefox 5 and flash. I would also like to set a default background in the image and preset the wireless settings too. These are going to be put in an environment where we don't want them to be messed with. Is there an easy way of doing this? I was thinking the ASOP rom might be the best candidate to work with, but I don't know for sure. I ill be rolling out about 20 - 25 units in the next week or so. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Joe
Your best bet is really probably to use the latest stock ROM so you don't leave root access and google market in there. You could probably acomplish your roll out by setting up any rom the way you want it, then wiping cache and user data, and running a nand backup with CWM. Then use that backup to restore onto the other devices.
To remove system apps in a ROM you can use ADB from a PC, or you can root it with z4root and use Titanium Backup. Then remove root before the backup.
thanks for the info
Thanks a bunch! I will try that when they come in. If I clear out the user data will that wipe out the wifi settings? To remove programs via ADB I still would need to be rooted correct?
Thanks
Joe
Yes clearing data will wipe wifi settings. I have never tried ADB on an unrooted device. You should jsut be able to activate debug usb and have it work jsut fine. But you can root with z4root and then UNroot with z4root when you are done with doing your root things (but befor eyou make a nand image).
Just search for z4root.apk
removing special apps
I'm having trouble removing the facebook app, youtube app and the gmarket app. any tips? I cant find them in the titanium backup app. any tips on removing these? getting rid of these apps is of the up-most importance. - these will be installed in an environment where we do not want people to have access to these apps. an help would be appreciated.
Thanks

They are installed as system apps. You would need to use something like SystemApp Remover to remove them (it can also backup the system aps incase you want to reinstall and also convert nonsystem apps to system apps). But, you do realize that there are other places for users to get apps to install than Market and you can still reach Facebook & Youtube via the browser once the google apps are removed!!!!
Hmm
I tried the system app remover they do not seem to be listed there It looks like they are short cuts to web pages, at this point I would settle just for hiding them, do you know if it possible to hide those. I am using the factory build on the 1.2 tree.
Thanks
Joe
Use the instructions posted here on the CyanogenMod Wiki to get rid of whatever you want.
And, there's really no need to use things like z4root on the gTablet. You can get root without that. In fact, if you can connect to the tablet using adb, then you're already root. The gTab is not like a locked-down phone.

I do believe you are correct...the stock TapNTap had the ability to save Web Links as Icons on the home screen. Not running stock and don't remember if there is a way to remove them.
z4root is handy to gain root and install busybox/superuser without having to set up adb though.

Need some serious help with unrooting please! Nothing is working :(

Hey there I got a nook Tablet (v1.4.2) it was rooted with Albertwertz method. Anyways after that I flashed CM7. Everything works fine the only thing is, I cannot get my books on there anyways, I forgot to backup before I flashed CM7. Well now I can't unroot it to take it back to out-of-the-box state which I really want to do. I tried flashing AdamOutler Stock Firmare but it didn't work. I also tried running the Unroot APK but it would just reboot back to recovery and then it would tell me that the APK had to force close. I really need help. I'm losing my mind Please someone help
If your tablet is 16 GB model as i think it is then flash any of the 1.4.0 roms posted in development section. Albert and i have posted them.
But if you have 8Gb model then you need to download the official firmware from B&N web page, cant give you a link right now but first let us know what model you have, you need to be carefull about what to flash if you have 8GB model.

Ah some how I got the UnRoot Nook apk to work by unselecting to "remember" when giving superuser authority. Well what I originally wanted was to have my Tablet rooted so I could download games with the Android market but still be able to have it as a reading tablet but when I rooted it I had to go back and forth between ADW launcher and the nook home. Is there anyway to have books on the tablet when I root it so I don't have to keep switching between launchers
Yes, root your tablet then download the nook app. It what I'm doing on my nook. Also if you use this method to root your nook library will be a pre installed app as long as you don't chose to delete it while in the rooting process.

Alright so I unrooted my nook and re-rooted it. Now i'm trying to use the method in your video, but I'm having a small problem. When I look click on my desktop to create a folder it doesn't work. It just exists out and doesn't create a folder or shortcut or anything.

Once in the drawer press menu button then you should see the option at the bottom so create a folder that's all. BTW my video is based on GO Launcher but still should be similar if you're using ADW launcher.

[Q] Google Search widget

I have always kept the Google Search widget on my homescreen. I have a son who is curious about everything, so I'm often searching things, and I used to touch the mic button to play a song from Google music or dictate a text.
I've had a lot of trouble with my Vibrant lately and have finally gotten FishmanMod Blue 2.2 Frankenstein Slim to work for me. However, I have lost the search widget. When I try to add it from my widget list, all I get is an empty box that says and does absolutely nothing.
I went to Google Play and it said that Search isn't compatible with my device. (The photos looked like Google Now...)
I have tried searching the forums, and came across an .apk that I tried. I moved it from my downloads folder using Root Explorer into the /system/apps folder and rebooted.
Still the same result.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks for reading!
when you found the widget and moved it in ROOT did you change the permissions then reboot or just moved the file and reboot ?

I changed the permissions. Basically what I did was looked up the thread where Woodrube said how to install GTalk as a system app. I copied those instructions in order to move this .apk. The permissions I set are:
Owner: Read, Write, Execute
Group: Read
Others: Read
None of the special permissions are ticked.
you dont need execute bro just check read on owner/group/others and check write for owner reboot and check again also you made sure you deleted the other one that was kinda there but not working ??

Thanks for the reply. For the record, I'm not a bro
Reset the permissions as you suggested. I looked for anything else with "google" and "search" in it and found nothing besides what I knew I had moved there. Rebooted, same results. I only see "search" in my widget list and it is still an empty box.
Okay, looks like I'm just completely missing the Google Search apk. I installed a 3rd party widget from the Play Store, and touching the mic activates the voice search (because I have it installed) but tapping anywhere else on the search box does absolutely nothing.
I need to look for the Google Search app itself. Any ideas on how to get it? I can't find it at all on Play store. I need it for 2.2.
im so sorry mama excuse my stupidity and do you have any other 2.2 roms ? you can open up the rom on your phone or computer and open the system folder and look for the google search apk are you familiar n doing that again my apologies

No problem. Please don't apologize. I fully realize and accept that I'm totally in the minority here. No big deal at all. Just struck me as funny.
That's a really good idea. I'll try that. I've got the voice search shortcut on my homescreen, and I can use that. I just dislike change.
Hopefully all this will cease to be an issue when I get my new phone. The Hubs (DigitalMonk) thinks I should wait for the new Nexus to come out on Tmo. I'm not at all sure I don't just want to stick with what I know and go with the SGSIII.
I feel you honestly I love the nexus but I always feel like those phone are never giving enough power etc for they to be top dollar phones and the last 2 had problems with the bootloader and recovery being wiped and volume /power buttons becoming disabled ill stick with what you know samsung phone might be plasticy but there solid IMO but if you was to get the new.phone its like trying to keep up with buying jordan lol stick to something you like not because its new but because its easier for you

Okay first I need to know what Android version you are running. If you are running 2.x, you can only use the old Google SearchBar Widget version 1.x. Do not try installing Google Now to Android 2.x because it is incompatible. You can extract the Google SearchBar Widget from gingerbread "gapps.zip" files: http://goo.im/gapps
If you are running ICS roms and want to use Google Now, there are modded version to make it working.
If you are using Jelly Bean roms, then you should be able to install Google Now from the Market.
If you are installing Google Now to Jelly Bean by manually moving the apk file to /system/app, the app needs a lib file called "libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so". However, the name of this file can change depends on the version you are using. This file is located in the \lib\armeabi-v7a\ folder within the apk file itself, it needs to be extracted and moved to the \system\lib\ folder. If you install the apk using conventional method, it will automatically extract this lib file to the necessary location, so you wouldn't have to worry about all this.
It's not recommended do this manually, but by either flashing the patch, or installing it from the Play Store.
Here is the patch for ICS roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835199
The patch for Jelly Bean roms is located at SlimRoms website in the addons section.

[Q] Editing Build.prop Help Needed

Hi everyone, i'm new here, and already have a question for guys:
I have the BQ Maxwell Plus: bqreaders.com/gb/products/maxwell-plus.html
It has Android 4.1.2 and is not rooted, it has the official 4.1.2 update although it came with 4.0.4.
I want to remove the navigation bar because it takes alot of space in games (Witch i play alot, example: MCPE, Star Legends, Call Of Mini: Zombies, Etc...), so here's what i did:
*1: I downloaded a soft key app: Button Savior.
*2: I enabled the ''up to root'' option on ES explorer and went to /System.
*3: I openned Build.prop and scrolled all the way down to the bottom where there was a line that was empty.
*4: I wrotte qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 in a NEW line, UNDER the empty line.
*5: I saved, and turned of my tablet (BQ Maxwell Plus).
*6: I turned it on and it was exactly the same,
*7: I went to check the Build.prop and it was normal, without the line i wrotte to hide the navigation bar.
Anyone help? i posted a picture of some steps... (They're the numbers in red).
Am i doing something wrong?
Thx in advance :silly:
For Editing a Build.prop your device must be in Rooted condition and it required of bussybox installed on your device. If not you got failed.. like you did

If there was like some app that made like, other apps that require root think i have root access or something, but thats impossible :silly:

Hi there,
Well I won't back up from a challenge,
anyways there is a way but it requires alot of steps
doing a full system erase wont delete the apps however you can root the tablet so you can remove the app permanently. The apps you talk about are system apps which are impossible to remove without rooting your tablet. If your okay with ANDROID ROOTING HERE ARE THE STEPS;
1. SINCE YOU'RE USING AN UNKNOWN BRAND YOU CAN ROOT YOUR TABLET VIA KINGO ROOT
HERE IS THE LINK: https://www.kingoapp.com/
2. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF FIREWALL AND ANTIVIRUS
3. AFTER DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING FOLLOW THE ON SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS.
4. AFTER SUCCESSFULLY ROOTING YOUR DEVICE YOU MAY PROCEED TO GOOGLE PLAY AND DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL TITANIUM BACKUP AND RESTORE
5. AFTER INSTALLING THAT OPEN THE APP
6. OR IF YOU WANT YOU CAN INSTALL ANY SYSTEM APP REMOVER APP FROM GOOGLE PLAY ITSELF
7. BUT I RECOMMEND THE TITANIUM IT HAS MORE FEATURES AND MAYBE IT MIGHT BE HARD FOR YOU BUT STILL TRY THE APP OUT
THERE YOU GO ALL THE UNWANTED APPS ARE GONE NOW HOWEVER IF YOU USED TITANIUM APP THERE IS AN OPTION TO REMOVE THE APP PERMANENTLY SO WHEN YOU ERASE THE TABLET NEXT TIME THE UNWANTED APPS WON'T BE THERE
