maybe the su binary in your system isnt recognized by the recovery. if you are using a bulit-in superuser, then clicking "yes" might cause problems……but I always click yes and nothing happens.

Two reasons:
- your recovery version in OLD, flash the newest 6.12.8 (can be flashed as zip in current recovery), and see if the issue continues:
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300
- If you're using SuperSU, enter the app: it should suggest a restart to update Binary (enable it using CWM mode), if it doesn't help,
then try to reflash newest CF-Auto root: http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip

I have update recovery and now i have solved thank you......

If you do click "Yes" it will simply flash SuperSU.zip . It is just like when you use CF-Root with Odin, but simpler. This wy you can always be sure that when you boot your ROM you don't have root access.

CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 NOT working on XXDLH9, any ideas?

Hi guys,
I have an international S3 with the latest (until today ) firmware.
Everything works smoothly and fine, but I want my root back...
So after some reading I found the process is pretty simple.
Downloaded the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 package, odin 1.85. Flash PDA with AutoReboot and Reset time.
The process ends up successfully, but when reboots I still don't have root.
Any idea as why this is happening, I couldn't find any alternative ways to get root...
Any help is welcome
Cheers!

How do you know you don't have root ???
Do you have CWM Manager and CWM recovery if not its a failed flash .
jje
Happen to me once: CWM was flashed but no SuperSU and no CWMmanager after reboot
If it's your issue, try that:
-reflash CF-root with "auto-reboot" untick in Odin
-when flash is done, disconnect your phone from computer
-Directly do Vol Up+Home+Power to restart in recovery
This should start the flashing process for SuperSU and CWM manager
Then the phone should restart (or do it yourself from recovery) and you should be rooted

there are many ways to know if the phone is rooted or not , one is by installing titanium backup application. when you install titanium backup, it will tell you whether your phone is rooted or not

Thank you very much for this advice! Until Android 4.1.1. I had not problems rooting with CF-Root, but after several (re)flashing (re)tries with CF-Root your trick finally got my S3G with I9300XXDLIB rooted! :good:
I wanted to post a question about this in CF-Root forum, but since I'm new I don't have rights to post there, but your advice definitely belongs there.

Question - considering that i have flashed cf.root 6.4, will the procedure below brick my phone?

- install custom rom

You cannot install CWM recovery unless you root your phone. . Did you try going to recovery using button combo?? Sometimes, if roots after you manually go into recovery.
If not done, download Galaxy S3 unified toolkit and root using that.

If the cf root procedure was successful I wouldn't worry about installing a diff recovery just yet, lets get the phone booting 1st. Download a custom rom and get it moved onto your external sd card, Boot into recovery(from power off, press volume up, home button and power), make sure its custom and not default. Then install the custom rom zip and reboot it should hopefully fully reboot. then look into installing a newer custom recovery.

no..! you can flash CWM recovery even though the phone is not rooted! for sure! after flashing CWM recovery we can root the phone by flashing superuser.zip! i've done this many times!

If the recovery has been updated to the custom CWM recovery then yes you could flash a rom which will come with root and super user. But it must be the custom recovery if your still on the stock recovery u couldn't flash a custom rom.

Ohk, is the recovery stock recovery or custom (CWM) recovery. Anyways, try to wipe data and cache and boot. If not successful, install a custom ROM. But make sure the recovery is CWM recovery.

yes, saw it. its a custom rom. tried wipe data / cache but didn't work. will try to install custom rom sentinel now.
was able to install the custom rom but kept on rebooting after few minutes. it already happened thrice now.
anything i am missing?
It could be the insecure kernel you used earlier is making it unstable, probably if the custom rom doesn't install a kernel. Only thing I can think of is install an official Samsung g3 rom which should repair all the partitions that might of been damaged or corrupted, use it for a while to make sure no reboots. Then go through root and install of custom rom again. In theory creating a good foundation to install a custom rom on.
Just out of curiosity did u download an official Samsung rom before starting to flash in case u need to send it away or sell it on? If not what network/country are u using? Is the phone locked to the network or unlocked?
Edit:- I never used a kernel flash to root my phone just used cf root 6.4 to get root and custom recovery cwm. I only changed my recovery this weekend to Phil touch.

[Q] How to fix CF-Autoroot on I9300XXUGMK6 stock rom?

I tried rooting my S3 using CF-Autoroot, using Odin. After the update CWM doesn't open saying the binaries are outdated and I have to manually reroot. SuperSU doesnt wont even after updating it from play store. Root explorer does not work. I ldo not want to flash a custom rom. Can someone help me find a fix? I am not so experienced when it comes to rooting. I checked various sites and found that the even the buggy MJ9 firmware has the same issue while rooting. Has it go to do with some change in Android 4.3? I flashed back to the stock rom and removed CF-Autoroot for now.
Actually wanted to post this in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273&page=59 . But I can't seem to post in the Development section with less than ten posts.

I would like to do this too, can I just confirm I have this correct?
1) Flash Philz recovery using odin
2) Reboot phone in to recovery
3) Flash cf-auto root file from recovery
4) reboot and go in to recovery and flash supersu 1.8 zip file
So two files are flashed using recovery after flashing philz recovery with odin?
Thanks, I fixed it by downloading CF Autoroot again, and wiping my phone in recovery mode to factory defaults, and flashing using odin. It did the tick. . It was mentioned in another thread, but didn't work when I tried. I think the factory reset fixed it. Though I am not sure.

[Q] Root success, but how to install recovery.

I've successfully rooted my I9300, actually I wanted to install recovery and try new ROMSsso I went to the method with recovery install through ODIN. But it didn't work for me as the matter was overwriting of stock revovery, I tried every method there to somehow get recovery installed. But all failed. Finally went to CF AutoRoot method and I only have root access now, the phone feel a bit slow now.
1. When an root app is run it takes a lot time to prompt me with root grant/deny(precise to say some app shown timeout). What's the problem?
2. Can somebody say how to get custom recovery in this condition?
3. I have backed up the efs and got two backup files as these[efs.raw.img-20 MB & modem.bin-12.1 MB] . Is it all? anything missing?
After getting a recovery I will make a NANDROID Backup. But please help me in the above three questions.
Thanks for your kind reply.
1. Factory reset
2. You can't, not with a stock firmware
3. Depends how you backed up

for the 2. If I can't with the stock firmware how to do it then? Pretty sure there is a way, that's what I'm asking.
Flash recovery with Odin then reboot straight into recovery and flash custom rom, if you allow stock firmware to boot it will overwrite recovery.
There is a guide in sticky thread.

Instead of all those button presses can I just install the CWM through ROM Manager. Is there any problem with that actually?
EDIT: or please at least say me how to block stock recovery overwrite through Terminal Emulator or what else.
