Would anyone buy this? Seems really redundant... - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive comes with a regular USB port on one hand, and a microUSB one – on the other. So when you want to move some files from your mobile device, simply connect the SanDisk’s device to a microUSB port and copy all the photos and videos you want. Then, connect the same device using a regular USB port to a computer and make a local copy of those files.

I disagree. I don't think it's purpose is to move files between PC and phone. I think it's about having a pendrive that's also accessible via phone. Plus connecting the phone to YOUR computer is easy enough, but it's not that simple in libraries, airports, other people's houses etc. If I was using a pendrive I'd buy it. But I don't.

I would its like the same as using a USB OTG cable but not having to have the cable

for the price, I'd rather just get a normal flash drive thats cheaper and use the otg cable. I already have one, and it's not really inconvenient.

If you have proper cables and don't mind carrying them, then this is kind of redundant, if you don't have cables, then this is as simple as it gets, albeit little more expensive. But frankly, I would never use it just to copy files to computer, the cable comes with phone for free and nothing beats dragging files with mouse from one drive to another on the computer. But if you want to backup your files or make room for new on the go, then I could see this as being useful.

I ask because you could use something like airdroid or something.

Yeah, but that will only work if you have:
1. good signal
2. really unlimited data plan.
Personally I don't see reason to backup few small files, since you can get SD card for cheap and store it on the phone memory and SD card as backup. I'm talking for example about being on vacation and actually running out of memory due to picture and video taking, where you need to offload gigabytes of data, where good signal and unlimited data could be completely out of question. Actually I may be taking trip to China this summer and could be facing this particular issue for real and any cloud type solution is not going to work at all. On my home turf I have access to computers daily, so again cloud services are pretty much useless, even if I had unlimited data, which I don't. I know Google and others are trying to sell us on cloud storage solutions, instead of physical storage, but in certain situations above limitations can not be overcome.

I use airdroid about 4-5 times/day. I log in using the web interface and transfer files from my laptop to my device. If the device is sitting next to my laptop, how bad can the signal be?

Details to USB Host Mode?

I know the Titan doesn't support USB Host mode, but I've heard there were alternatives like using CF Cards or something. Can anyone give me more details or point me in the direction of how to achieve this? Instead of buying a microSD card, I wouldn't mind just using one of my external HD to hold my stuff. It would be cool to read data off of flashdrives too.
I've never heard mention of any possibilities of USB host on the mogul. If someone does make a USB host CF card (never heard of one), I don't think you're going to find any way to interface it with the mogul. And the mogul probably wouldn't be able to power an external hdd, so you'd have to have a power supply and be tethered to the wall. At that point, you might as well carry a laptop around and store things on it, and just forget about USB host on the mogul.
If I had to guess I think you would see a Bluetooth harddrive before you saw anything like that.

That is already on the way...
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/consumer_electronics/DAVE/
theoretically it could be done with MicroSDIO, but i dont know if the mogul supports SDIO
plus i doubt anyone will make a USB controller in an MicroSDIO card, lol
wow that bluetooth harddrive looks promising, but the speed must suck :/. yea using a laptop would work, but its still too big and uses a lot more power. i had this idea, run mobiletorrent on the phone attached to a harddrive. it would use less power and its still smaller than a laptop.
How much storeage do you need?
I looked at the bluetooth drive also and it looks cool, and probably slow since i think bluetooth is ~700kbps, sort of like the speed you get beaming from one to another with bluetooth, which I do to and from my laptop now and it is kind of creepy slow. If you need more than the 8gigs that a microSD can do for now then that might be the way,,,,,,wait,,,,I remember seeing a shared WiFi drive some place, that would be lots faster i bet.

[Q] Expandable memory via micro usb?

Would it be possible simply to hook a usb stick up to the Titan via micro usb? I mean yeah it could potentially get in the way, but the way I see it is just buying an extended battery that hopefully has a rather large cover or even a plain jane case and cutting a chunk out for the usb to lay in. Simply plug it in when you're in need for your rather mediocre tunes and videos and BAM all the storage you want. Is something like this possible? Would the phone be able to sense that there is extra storage?

That would need the heck out of work to hack the ROM to get the driver in.
There is no way (nearly impossible) to do this with Official ROM, because this haven't done ever before.
D'awwwwwwww. Are there other methods you know of or expanding a phones storage without using the sim card? I'm in love with the titan, but I need more that 12gb of space.

Tell me about it, I am going from 40gig on my focus to 12, I am really cleaning house and putting the items that I do not use as mush up on your sky drive.
I'm so torn. I love the giant screen, build quality, and wp7, but I can't live with only 12gb. aaahhhhh

Use the cloud.
Touche. I like having all of my stuff right on my device. I hate depending on AT&T and their towers.
The cloud is neither an ideal solution nor salvation..
I would assume there is an app on the marketplace that can both uploading and download what I want from the cloud. Is there such a thing?

Wireless SD Card reader as actual storage?

Hey guys, for ages now I've been looking at ways to wirelessly, or at least cleanly upgrading storage on the DNA, considering it has no SD card port, and I've been trying to stay away from Wi-Fi SD card readers considering that I know that if I'm on the road, I wouldn't be able to use internet considering that if I'm connected to the Wi-Fi SD card reader's hotspot, then I'd lose connectivity from LTE.
But, this product here interests me, http://www.kingston.com/us/wireless/wireless_readers#mlwg2 I saw some videos of it on Youtube playing back 4K videos instantaneously on an HTC One M7 with no lag, quality degrading, or anything(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUGSKHQvtyU#t=332), it seems like a really nice product for storing music, hotswapping roms and what not, but, problem is, would there be any way for someone to actually download stuff to it like an actual means of storage?
I know about OTG cables and flash drives, I already have one of those, but I don't want to have this cable just dangling out of my phone as I'm gaming(assuming you can install apps to OTG storage) or listening to music. My question is, is there anyway to get these types of products to show up as ACTUAL SD Card storage in Settings? Or maybe there's some type of bluetooth SD card reader or so that could do so?
If not..my last resort is to actually use one of these things, but another problem is being away from Wi-Fi again. Is there any type of Xposed Module or anything of that nature that I can use to be connected to WiFi, but to use LTE connection instead? Thanks for reading and responses.

Is this a USB 2.0?
These new(ish) usb / micro usb flash drives are incredibly handy. I've had a 32 GB Transcend for a few weeks and I was actually just thinking about ordering another one (but I think I'm going to grab this http://www.amazon.com/Leef-microSD-...s&ie=UTF8&qid=1412384512&sr=1-1&keywords=leef instead, because I've got something like four 32 GB micro sd cards that I'm not really using atm). For anyone who hasn't seen these, basically they conform to the WYSIWYG standard: it's a super tiny-ass flash drive with a regular USB connector on one end and a micro usb connector on the other. Most have some kind of cap or cover on one or both ends. For me at least, an always keep it here policy is essential, or it's pretty much immediately lost; the Transcend drive was the smallest I could find which is 1.1 in long, no wider/taller than a usb port, and has a cap over the micro usb side. I often download ROMS and such onto it from my computer for transfer to my phone (or you can even flash files straight from it in TWRP!) I also copy some backups to it (i.e. a copy of my Titanium Backup folder as well as a nandroid or two). The fact that this type of drive exists is seriously the only reason that I'd be able to use a phone that doesn't have an external sd slot (Nexus 6?). In fact, this is my tentative plan if I ever end up getting a device like that: use FolderMount to move huge obb and data files for all large games to the flash drive (FolderMount moves the file and creates a symlink in your local Android folder), then if I want to play a game just plug in the drive and mount the linked folder... I haven't tried this yet, but pretty sure it would work as you can move / link files to wherever you want.
Anyway, just wanted to let people unfamiliar with these drives what they're like, and that I find mine extremely useful. I've seen different brands on sale on Amazon and they're priced pretty reasonably regardless. If you're going to pick one up, I'd just recommend getting one with a small loop so you can attach some kind of string or something (actually attached mine to a string with a headphone port plug on it... not that I carry it around like that, but I could...) I misplaced mine once, and pretty much assumed it had slipped through a slice in the space-time-continuum (did I mention that they're very small?) but fortunately found it about a week later when I moved a big recliner looking for something else.
In conclusion, I highly approve of these drives, and would recommend one to anyone who is in the habit of storing digital files :good:
Oh, BTW, that Sandisk drive in the link is usb 2.0, but there are versions that are usb 3.0. I found this Kingston 3.0 drive on the Amazon page for the Sandisk one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LIXJ0OU/ref=twister_B00MFJ6G20 nice, only $15, and I like that form factor better than that of the Sandisk. Not.... sure... I... can... resist.........
UPDATE (killer deal!: I just threw down an order for that leef adapter I linked to, AND grabbed this guy: Corsair Flash Voyager GO 64GB USB3.0 micro USB OTG Flash Drive for Android devices The listed price was only $33 (& prime) which sounded pretty good to me! However, when I went and checked out... I have no idea why and it doesn't say anything about this on the product page, but below that drive when I checked out it said "promotion applied: -$7.51", so I just scored that sweet 64 GB usb 3 / micro-usb for about $26! So if anyone else is interested in picking up one of those, seems like now's an excellent time to do so, but I'm curious if anyone else picks one up if they get that "promotion" as well (didn't put in a code, didn't say anything about it on the page, so possible that it was just some credit in my account or something, but I really don't think so....) So if you check that out, post back please whether or not you got a surprise $7 off or not, hopefully it applies for everyone!
I believe you must have gotten a credit somehow. I am a prime member and when I went to check out no discount for me. Good find though.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the reply... there's only one way I can think of that I might have earned some credit: you guys know that Amazon finally released a Prime Instant Video app for Android? Yeah, neither did I until I saw an article yesterday... you have to install it via the regular Amazon shopping app... kind of bizarre... Anyway, it's ok (def better than nothing). No chromecast and I think it's only available for certain devices (N3 :good and no tablet version yet (tried sideloading the apk on my Note 8, but it just gave me a message that I need the new tablet version of the (regular, not app store) app, which isn't out yet. Anyway the article said that you could get 100 free credits(?) or something (I never install the Amazon App Store, but I thought those coins / credits / whatevers were only good for apps and such. Anyway, if that's what it is.... wow. That was the most profitable episode of Flight of the Concords that I played on my phone with the volume down while I did something else! Shrug... definitely still a great drive at an excellent price. Just don't lose that sucker!
Really hope they add CCast... Amazon's got a reasonably solid library, which I never use because I'm just not down with watching media in a browser window. Suppose I could cast screen cast the show onto my TV or MHL, but will probably wait till I finish off my own 7 TB ripped media library and every single thing on Netflix first. Maybe I can just straight up cast it by then
