Is the OTA update downloaded before you allow installation? - Motorola Droid RAZR

My XT912 is flashed and rooted so I do not want the latest update. I can't seem to get rid of the reminder even though I froze the update program with the Disable Service app. I can't find a file for the update so I assume it hasn't actually been downloaded yet. What else can I do to get rid of the update notice?

After I discovered ES File Explorer does not view hidden files by default and turned that feature on, I found the update file. I deleted it and haven't received an update notice since but I won't be convinced it has gone away until I don't see it for a couple of days.

Can't you just get it yourself. Download the update but don't install it. We can't pull the apk from the system as we don't have root. If you want it from the update.zip you can get it yourself.
Your right but in order to get update.zip would have to install the ota don't want to do that

How do you download the OTA without installing it? What directory does the update install to when it's downloaded?
I had the movie working this morning (2011/06/24 got my device yesterday) after the APP updated. But now it is saying their is an HTC update (the OTA) and won't let me play the movie anymore.
Ive seen the updates downloading to the download folder, but that could be a fluke, yesterdays update was in the dowload folder but wasnt conplete I tried to redownload and it failed

It got pushed to my phone as well... it's a hit and miss... I can use the market, but as soon as I close it and open my browser.. it doesnt' connect right away.. I would have to close it once or twice then it will open a web page..
Does anyone have the old market apk? My market is breaking my data connection.

It will auto update even if you do that, unless you freeze it somehow.. I did the uninstall updates a couple times last night when it got pushed to my phone.. but it kept auto updating...
I still haven't received the update...I assume I just open the market and it'll start updating when it has it right?
Does it matter if I'm on Kenn's beta 4 and not any sort of official OTA build or anything?

Hmmm, my checkin was successful, but still no update... That's weird that I wouldn't get it yet, didn't they start pushing it to Atrix users like 2 or 3 days ago? And there's been no word that they stopped due to bugs or anything?

I'm rooted. how to disable OTA update?

Ok, so i just rooted my sprint gs3, I'm not sure but i think that the sprint OTA update should be disabled. Or is that just if i have a custom ROM? If I need to disable OTA how do i do it?
FYI:I used the GS3 toolkit to root and selected Option 3, which is "everything at once" option. if that makes a difference
I don't want sprint to screw up my mojo.
Thanks
You can use Titanium Backup to freeze the updater app. I have an AT&T phone and the updater was called AT&T Software update or something similiar. You can probably find one called TMobile software updater or similar and freeze it. I could easily tell I froze the right file when I had the update notification in the notification bar at the top, as once I froze the right app the notification disappeared.

I just froze "sprint Installer" in titanium. Will that not work? Or is it better to rename the file as you just said? das7982
I unfroze "sprint installer" and instead renamed otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
Thanks for the advice. Will this only affect the sprint ROM?

I remember reading some where that doing this to block ota actually makes it worse because disabling/renaming that file makes the phone continually download the update and not be able to install it. Draining ur battery in the process. I could be wrong but I would look into it more.
What's the update app called for the Verizon Model, id like to freeze it as well

If that's not the right way to do it, then what is?
I'm not saying ur wrong relax. I would like to know this too.
We have to edit text in the build prop. Once the ota drops we can compare the build props and using the text editor in root explorer we can change ours to the new one to trick the phone into thinking it has the new ota.

It wasn't my idea, it really doesn't matter to me who's right, i just want to know who's right, so i can do the right thing on my phone. Maybe they're both right, maybe they're both wrong. Just trying to verify. One says to disable sprint update, the other says to rename the OTA file. My thought was that renaming the OTA file might be better because it's deeper in the system files. Ether way, they were'nt my original ideas.

I believe for Verizon it is FWupgrade, I am not 1005 sure as we have not had an OTA to test on.

Just Got OTA

Didnt see any posts yet. I just got the OTA. I am on the leaked/official JB xmas update. The update is named: Blur_Version.98.72.8.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip and is only about 40 mb. Its been pulled, who wants it and where.

I just saw this pop up on my device as well. I declined as I am rooted. I better text my wife to cancel hers as well. I'll try saving root with Voodoo and d/l the update. Wish me luck!
I have the Christmas jelly bean leak installed on my device (Not rooted). Could anyone share if their google services are working if your configuration was like mine?
Thanks
Here's what the update entails
Motorola's own changelog*for the Android 4.1.2 update confirms something surprising: Custom software features are being replaced by stock Google apps -- or are being removed altogether.
Consider:
Removed apps: Social Location, MOTOACTV, MOTOPRINT and Verizon Video on Demand are history. Kaput. Alarm and Timer are being replaced by the stock Google Clock app.
Removed widgets: Gone are the My Gallery, My MOTOCAST, My Music, Picture Slideshow, Social Location, Sticky Note, Weather and World Clock widgets. Gone. Kaput.
MOTOCAST has been decoupled from MyMusic, Files and the Gallery apps and is now standalone on the phone. (It's also been redesigned and is faster, Moto says.)
My Gallery and My Music have been replaced with their corresponding Google apps.

[Q] how to re-enable OTA updates after rooting 14.3.1.0

I recently rooted my kindle hdx 8.9 with .94 toolkit. Every thing works fine. I disabled the OTA update with tookkit .94. I did not manually install the current update with the other program, due to some reporting bricking if not done correctly.
I used tookkit .94 to un-install (re-enable) OTA updates, however when I got to take an update in the menu, it reports update failed..
So, how to I re-enable auto updates? I want to take the current update, so I can remove ads from Amazon, cause I paid them 15 bux. Then I want to re-root and re-enable OTA blocker.
Any help would be appreciated.
You do know that you can easily remove the ads yourself, right?

very dangerous that is for the HD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790659
, You only need to do the SQ edit and you are done. I had the exact same issue after I paid for the removal I would get black screen lock screen. Trust me do the SQ lite Edit only .reboot
Thanks for the information on sqlite. It worked great. However, that's been months ago.
I would like to be able to take a more recent update, as I'm still on 14.3.1.0
And still be able to re-root. Like I stated in my original post. I'm not sure of the process needed to 're-enable' OTA updates. Or if there is a way to manually install a more current update.
Thanks. Merry Christmas
