Help! System software not authorized by verizon - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I need help, I rooted my phone and when I uploaded CWM, appeared this message: "System software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help".

I got that too. I think it was because you are running the Verizon Mobile Security.? Turn it off if it is still running.

Hello,
Sorry to hear about your problem. I've had friends who've this has happened to. What you have to do is, you have to start over. This link will be helpful. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209 and use the no-wipe version (unless if you don't care about your data). Then, Unlock your bootloader and try to re-install CMW. If you need help this video is very helpful:
Hope this helps,
Nolan

@nolethemole before you have him do all that why don't you get all the relevant information considering there's a 99% chance he's not mdk?

The easiest way to get your phone back to normal is to put it into download mode. You should have Verizon software upgrade assistant on your computer, if you don't, just connect your phone on your computer and wait for it to be installed, Eventually you will see something that say Verizon software upgrade assistant. If you do just disregard this part. Go on repair mode and click repair. Let it do its magic and your phones back to normal. It will wipe all your data though. But its better than having a soft brick phone.:good::good:

Download the stock NC5.tar and Odin back to stock.

Though years later, I want to thank this poster for the answer that solved my VZW not authorized block [when I accidentally loaded a bad kernel] message and allowed me to get my old favorite phone, with many custom ROMs active again so I could get the great S4 active again to try to convince my un-tech spouse to try something besides a a LG 8600 flip, great phone that it is.
Thank you! After many other solutions, the solution.

So, I have to move back into my S4, due to my current phone dying. I went and downloaded and flashed the latest TWRP in-app, rebooted to recovery, and got the same message as the OP. I'm on MDF, rooted, running hyperdrive, so that isn't the problem. Any ideas?

Did you Loki the recovery? I had to move some files that Loki needed to one of the system root directories before I could install clockwork mod recovery.

i got that as well, but only in between loading the kernal and flashing su. I didn't reboot like it asked, i just continued flashing su then let the motochopper script reboot for me, so i'm all good it seems for now.
Thanks so much for the info sextape!!!
edit. nm, it showed up again, but i'm not going to reboot until i have the stock firmware downloaded. I wonder if i freeze SEAndroid, if that would prevent the warning.
As I stated yesterday, I'd be very impressed if we had a working root method by today (when I should be receiving my device this evening). Low and behold, color me impressed. SXTP you are truly a legend good sir! :good:

By "unauthorized software warning" do you mean the little triangle in the notification bar and the message saying "Device detected an application attempting unpermitted access" and asking you to reboot? That is because you have USB debugging checked in developer options. There is another option below that says Verify apps via USB, it's grayed out so I can't uncheck it, BUT if you freeze SEAndroid 1.0 with TiBu the warning goes away.

Odd, I've rebooted a few times and haven't had that happen. I tried rebooting with the warning and it took me to the samsung splash screen with the unlocked padlock and it said "recovery loading" and tried to do a software update. I managed to hit the power button and stop that from happening. Not sure WHAT would have happened if that had completed.

[Q] [QUESTION] How to Unlock/Root the Verizon Galaxy S4 Developer Edition?

I just got this in the mail today. Does anyone have any insights on how to unlock the bootloader and inject root? I had assumed 'fastboot' would work, but this has ODIN. I'm sure I could follow the steps on the original S4, but I don't know what the downstream effects will be.
Thanks!

Ok, just got done rooting my gs4 vzw dev edition. It was really pretty simple.
Steps from my win8 laptop were...
Install samsung drivers,
get adb working (android sdk doesn't seem to work on win8.. but just the adb files are all you need, google adb platform-tools or just use win7)
dl and push your superuser zip to the sdcard or external sdcard
dl odin 3.07 and extract to pc
dl and make tar.md5 of your favorite recovery. ( i personally like cwm )
Then all I did was... reboot phone in to odin mode... while phone is powered off, hold vol down + power
Start odin.exe
uncheck auto-reboot
click pda button, select the recovery file.md5
press start and let it finish, only takes a few secs...
once done.. reboot in to recovery, and flash the superuser.zip u pushed over to it.
Vol up + power to boot in to recovery. for me i just booted the phone normally... used "adb reboot recovery" then flashed superuser.zip.
reboot your phone and done.
good idea to make a backup while ur in recovery
If someone has hosting, i can send the files needed.

I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 and was able to gain root access.
I have yet to take the plunge on a custom recovery, but I'm sure I'll do that soon.
Additionally, the boot screen now has a picture of an "unlocked" lock, and the words "Samsung" "Custom". I guess they know that this has been flashed.
How did you order this prior to it being available on the Samsung Web site?

Mine comes tomorrow or Monday. So, despite it being unlocked, you still had to go thru that kernel replacement root method? Hmmm. I would have thought there would have been an easier way, no?

Search for the phrase used in the notification. It had to so with SEAndroid. You have to delete/rename KNOXAgent.apk, KNOXAgent.odex from /system and com.sec.knox.seandroid from /data/data

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 unable to turn on wifi.

Hi, my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3.
My device is bought in Singapore.
Its my first time rooting my device.
Ran into a problem that I couldn't turn on my wifi anymore. (tried wifi fixer app and turning airplane mode on and off)
I have successfully rooted my device as verified with the Root Checker App.
I have downloaded all the files from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330598
I should done all steps correctly.
After I have done those steps, I downloaded Simons_JB_Rom_v100_based_on_AMH1.zip
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374899
Transferred it into my phone then I proceeded on installing the Custom ROM.
I've backed up my stuffs through the the recovery.
I have reset my phone to factory settings, wiped the cache partition, wiped Delvik cache.
I did a restart but i did not see any "Yellow exclamation logo".
After all, I proceeded on to install the ROM.
I cant turn on my wifi from now on. I've tried to download the "Wifi Fixer" app but it wont work.
I got a feeling that I have not erased my previous stock ROM but I proceeded on to installing the custom ROM.
Any kind souls out there who can help me or give me some links that I could refer to?
Thank you in advance! :fingers-crossed:

You need to do a complete wipe and install a stock rom and verify if the phone works. If it does then start again with rooting etc. If not return it for a replacement or repair.

Just install the custom Rom over the top of the old one, no need to do factory reset or wipe anything. The custom roms are based on stock anyway.
Try that and see how it goes.

I know that this thread is very old but I didn't want to make a new topic on something that was similiar to the problem I was having, apoliges if making a new thread was the right thing. I just really need you all's help.
I'm in need of some assistance.
I have my Galaxy Mega on Metro Pcs. Woke up today and decided to root it or at least ( attempt ) to root it myself. I looked up a couple tutorials and eventually did it. BUT, due to me being inexperienced I didn't make a "backup" of anything.
So now, I'm stuck with a Galaxy Mega that seems to be rooted on another platform other than Metro's. I also am unable to use the Wifi feature, and it seems that I can't transfer files via USB - PC
I tried reverting my mistake but I don't think I'm flashing the right thing. Can someone please guide me in the right direction as to flashing this Mega back to the way it was. I don't want to bother with the root anymore, I just want the phone back to the way it was.
I'd really appreciate any help you gentlemen could give me.

I appreciate your help mate. I did the restore via Kies, it worked flawlessly. I am so relieved.
I'd shake your hand if I could.. xD

Long story short I deleted and wiped my entire system rom and partition in safestrap and didn't install a new OS before rebooting
Now my phone will not enter safestrap to allow me to install a new rom
I cannot flash stock rom through odin as I get a Fail: Auth error
I cannot find a serial number that works with kies to do a firmware upgrade
And using ADB to sideload gives me an error: "Could not read sideload"
So what options do I have left to fix this mess?

I will say that is a laundry list of issues.. I learn to fix things as tbey come and I have not yet had to odin my s4... I would recommend reading through the safestrap in both general and development and pm someone who states they have used odin successfully for help.. if by chance and heaven forbid I need to utilize odin I will respond again.. I am sorry I couldnt be helpful, good luck.

Yea, I gave it to my rooting expert friend and he fixed after like 6 hours. Said that I had write protection enabled and therefore I couldn't flash anything that wasnt digitally signed by verizon so he fixed that then flashed the stock rom again. Its running again and thats all I care about thanks guys

Can you ask your friend how he bypassed the digital signature?
And this might be a huge favor but, can you ask him if he can bypass the MF3 signature?

He didn't bypass the signature, he just installed the proper stock ROM. Or that's the most likely thing to have done.
If he's able to bypass the signature, he could collect the bootloader bounty.

I'm confused. What is "MF3"?
Edit: I see. You're talking about an AT&T GS4, apparently.

[Q] Cannot get GS4 to update

I have done a ton of searching and usually don't post because there is something out there but I am losing it. I have a Verizon GS4 with 4.3 MJ7 rooted. I have put off updating for a while because I was unsure what it would do to my root but when I recently tried the OTA to 4.4 it will reboot and try to update but just gets an error and drops me off in the recovery page where I hit reboot now. Then it tells me my update was unsuccessful (thanks android....). I have tried using Odin to update to CM11 and it always fails when i hit start. I tried using kies 3 and it downloads the update, download window disappears, and then kies stays up greyed out until it crashes. I found somewhere that kies 3 is picky so i unmounted the sd card, turned off usb debugging, restarted, everything. I would be perfectly fine with 4.4 or CM11. I dont care. I just want to update....

Well, not sure I understand exactly what you are running or exactly what "update" you are talking about. But, there is not a 4.4 release for the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon). 4.3 is the best you can do if you're talking about getting the latest firmware for the S4. Secondly, if you have 4.3 MJ7 I think the only way you are going to be able to flash anything is with SafeStrap and only TW based ROMs. Even though you may be rooted, you cannot install a custom recovery on MJ7, only SafeStrap. Hope this helps.

Absolutely no problem. That's easy to do. By the way, great advice/thread you gave to the OP.
