[Q] Device vibrates when textbox is pressed or when a dowload is in progress - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
About a week ago I ran out of mobile data and so every time I tried to access the internet I would get a notification asking to sign into the network. But at the same time every time I would press a text input or download an app even on wifi my phone was vibrate as if I received a notification. I put it down to it trying to send mobile data. Anyway, my monthly allowance has been refreshed and the problem still persists. So I am starting to think it is not the device trying to send mobile data.
I am also running CM10.1 if this helps.
Thank you in advanced.

Update
I think I have made some progress into what is causing the vibrating. I think it is now down to whenever a notification appears/changes. Whenever a textbox is pressed the keyboard notification icon appears. When downloading the download icon appears and is constantly changing. I have changed the settings to stop the Vibrate on Notification setting, but it still vibrates not matter what.

Problem Solved
I have figured out the issue. It was a problem with one of the profiles I had created in CM10. I can't remember what the setting was I changed but I reset the profiles, recreated one for work where I set all volumes to zero. The notifications now don't vibrate like they used to. It was just a coincidence that this happened around the same time I ran out of mobile data.

Sprint Touch Pro data connection issues

I've owned a Touch Pro for a few months now and overall it's a good device. It has its quirks, but then again what phone doesn't? There is one problem in particular, however, that I can't seem to figure out. I've searched up and down in XDA Forums, and on Google, and I just can't find out a fix for my data connection always turning on for no reason. I have all my e-mail accounts set to "manual send / recieve", the weather program set to "update weather manually", and as far as I know there are no other programs on my phone that have access to the internet without my permission.
The problem I have is sometimes I will wake my phone up from its sleep mode, and I will discover that the data connection is active and appearing to be transmitting. Also, EVERY time I restart my phone and it goes through the boot process, the data connection will re-activate even before TouchFLO 3D opens up on the today screen. It's really annoying, because I have no idea what's causing it to do this, or why it does it at random times, or whenever I reset my device.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? I hate having to manually go in periodically and make sure my data connection is set to "off", instead of having it stay that way when I set it.
So no help on this one then?
I don't have a solution but I can help by bumping your thread and saying I have the same problem on Verizon. I was at a friend's place all weekend, and he has wifi all over, so I turned off data and used his wifi instead. Well sure enough all weekend my data connection kept turning itself back on. It seemed to happen only when going into sleep mode. So I kept the phone plugged in so it would never totally "sleep". Wifi stayed connected with no data connection starting automatically. Annoying especially considering the 5 GB data limit on the PDA plan.
Well I'm glad I'm at least not alone on this one. It's weird too that even though your device is on a different carrier, it still does the same thing. I wonder if it's a hardware issue?
I know that someone has to have an answer for this...
go into pocket express and press menu then go to express settings then on the top left theres a pulldown press it and go into auto updates and turn it off.. pissed me off when i got the phone.. couldnt find a fix till i started going through all the programs to find the one doing it.. and it was the stupid Pocket Express
I have had my MDA Compact V for a few months now, and it's only recently that I've had the same problem. Each time I switch on, my data connection starts or alternatively if I loose signal then get it back then I see my data connection is on again. Thankfully I have the Solo 20 package with unlimited net usage (although you're are limited to 1Gb/month) but it drains my battery really badly.
I went through every possible setting and program to switch off location settings or auto downloads/updates and I still have the same problem, but I downloaded Data Controller v1.00 from Freewarepocketpc.net and I can toggle my data connection on or off as I please.
Heres what you need
Install below cab, then use the NODATA app, select what you want off, PHONE AS MODEM and DATA are your two options I believe... Your data will never come back on... until you re-enable it that is....
PS... THIS IS NOT MY CAB, THIS IS SOMETHING I FOUND WHEN TRYING TO ADDRESS THESAME PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING. THIS CAB WAS DOWNLOADED FROM MoDaCo BUT I DONT HAVE THE LINK... ALL RESPECTS GO TO HIM... I AM JUST SHARING WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME IN THE PAST...
Seems it's one or the other
What sucks is on my Sprint HTC touch pro 2 (cdma), I was having a problem where I couldn't answer calls all the time, but sometimes I could, and eventually found that it was always when the data connection was showing active is when I couldn't answer a call. But when that was happening, my data connection would turn back off after a few seconds when I was done using it. It was driving me crazy not being able to answer my calls and I finally found a post that let me correct that problem, it was changing the HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume value that fixed this problem... the value of this registry setting was originally "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This setting made it so the data connection would turn off when not being used, but it apparently messes up cdma phones from being able to switch over to answer an incoming phone call if the data connection is active. I changed this registry entry to "#777" as the post said to do, and sure enough, that corrected the problem with being able to answer my calls if the data connection is active. I'm real happy to have that working now, but when I changed this setting, my data connection is now always showing active (white arrows showing in status) and even if I turn it off manually, it comes on by it's self way more often than the every 4 hours I have it set to check emails.
There is a registry setting called CacheTime under the same Settings key as the above mentioned registry entry that I changed, that when the "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" value is used, the CacheTime key value will indeed control how long the data connection stays on before automatically turning off. But When I change the Entry to "#777" which is necessary to allow me to answer calls when data is active, then changing the CacheTime value has no effect and the data connection stays on until you manually turn it off.
I'd like to find a way to turn the data connection off, while still not messing up me being able to answer calls when the data connection is active, and seems to me that if both of these things can be done separately with two different registry settings, that it must be possible to do both.... so if any of you tech wizards can find a way to do this, I'd love to see it!
Possible Fix?
Hey, I have noticed the same problem. It is annoying from a battery life aspect as well as a system slowdown when coming out of sleep. I could not find much of a workaround except one of the settings in TD3 Tools I installed. In the "Data Connection" tab you can yurn on an option that makes your "End" key also terminate an active data connections. So if you hit it after waking your phone you won't have the annoying slowdown with your Sense UI...

[Q] Atrix Notification LED not working

I did try a search, but couldn't find this specific problem. I have the latest version of 2.3.6 on my Atrix (4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US). Un rooted from the soak test.
So I was going to use custom LED colors for contacts. I started using Handcent. Then I wanted to try out Go SMS Pro (heard good things). Decided it wasn't for me. So I uninstalled, and since then the notification LED doesn't work anymore, for any app. I emailed Go's developers but I'm not expecting much from them.
The thing is, the notifications WERE working with Handcent, just minutes before. I had one contact flashing magenta, for instance. I've rebooted, I've tried reinstalling Go SMS, I've tried toggling the notification LED setting in the phone's Settings menu, and every combination. The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset (really using this as a last resort). I REALLY want the notification LED though.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Did you set up notifications in the GoSMS settings?
If not, it may have been turned off there, and when you uninstalled GoSMS the setting stuck. Try enabling the setting in GoSMS to see if that works. If it does, leave it set to on, then uninstall GoSMS.
I had a similar issue with another type of app, and for some reason when I had uninstalled it the setting had stuck on.

The first time, during the setup wizard, I checked the box that said disable other notifications. I think I did set them up the first time too. Regardless, I just reinstalled and tried setting up notifications. The first time I clicked test notification (where you turn the screen off to see if the light comes on) it worked. I sent myself a text, and now it doesn't work still. Even retrying to test the LED doesn't work anymore.
Edit: I think it's fixed. I tried using Light Flow but it didn't help. Then I re-installed Go SMS, and under Received there was an option to turn on other apps' notifications. I turned that back on and now it seems to be working fine.

No push notifications in sleep mode

Hi everybody.
I just bought a Samsung S3 but I have a problem..
Every time I put my phone in standby, after 5-10 minutes the phone stops getting push notifications (fb, whatsup). I need to turn it on and after that everything's fine..
I tried do update to android revolution hd 17.1 but I still get this problem..
I've already tried to set Wi-Fi to always off, checked all notification setting but to no avail..
Is there a way to receive internet messages without turning on the phone every 5 minutes?

Their is a refresh setting of almost every internet app, try to change those. And check whether Do Not Disturb option in the notification panel is not on.
Hit Thanks if this helped.
Disable smart alert in 'motion' and that should fix it
Especially if you have a broken/malfunctioning proximity sensor

Sorry but I can't find any refresh setting in phone settings or whatsapp options. Can you please tell me where can I find them?
Have you downloaded any deep sleep apps or Juice Defender/any other battery management app?

No I didn't.
I even did a hard reset 2 days ago. The only apps I have right now are whatapp and fb messanger
I just tried to uncheck "smart alert" but the problem persists.
Okay wait, when you say 'standby mode', you just mean you're locking it, right?
Assuming that the answer to my previous question is 'yes', tell me, when you turn your screen back on do you get a little notification on the bottom of the screen that says "You are now connected to (whatever your WiFi is called)" ?
He still doesn't receive texts I believe so this is not having the WiFi set to turn off at lock

My issue only occurs when in 3G. It seem the phone disconnects from 3g line when in deep sleep.
I've already tried to use different sims of different operators getting the same behaviour
If I connect my s3 to a wifi spot it always gets notifications instantly

No Interruptions by mistake!

Guys please help: I recently purcashed a LG Vista LG-D631. Within the next 24 hrs the phone was changed to 5.0.1 without my knowledge. That's when I started to notice that the sound changes to Priority, or No Interruptions automatically. Most of the time, the settings get changed at around 500am. My alarm is set for 530 am so I do not have any sound to wake up, only vibration. I have checked almost every morning, in the settings, Sound , Interruptions, and it is set to ALL, no check marks on calendar, incoming or new messages. The schedule section remains unchecked for all days of the week, and the From and To times are not highlighted. I have gone through each of my apps to determine if one of the Apps has a notification set, but none of the apps have check marks next to them. Lately I have rooted the phone, which works great, except for the NO INTERRUPTIONS that turn on by itself.
I have been searching the internet on how to change the settings with no luck. Please give some ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Whatsapp issue

Hello!
For more than three years, WhatsApp has been periodically freezing and smartphone also.
It always happens the same, but the regularity is different: for any incoming message in WhatsApp, everything hangs. To fix this issue I always do the same thing switch off/on the screen or pull down the notification bar, then everything starts working again after this.
This issue appears on samsung phones only, I guess (for the third in a row), and I tried to do a lot of things during this time nothing helped.
Do you have any idea why this is happening, and how to fix it?
Thanks
