[Q] Disable Immersive Mode in KitKat - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched how to disable immersive mode in KitKat, and found nothing but topics on how to enable immersive mode.
In some games, immersive mode is annoying, since you'll swipe an area of the game interface near the immersed status bar, and the status bar will appear while gaming.
Is there an app, mod, or setting that can disable immersive mode?
Thanks for any information.

I would also like to disable immersive mode but for different reason. Immersive mode hides the clock, battery, and notifications. It's really annoying to have to swipe inside the game area, altering the game state, to see the time or what app gave me a notification. I would rather lose the 20 pixels of screen real estate to keep the bar visible.

I want to disable this as well. That's the most irritating thing ever - UI elements that's supposed to give me control of the device, disappear or change their place.

Well, this question is still valid.

Likewise, infuriating! Constantly hides navigation buttons

I've been searching for that too! No results found here.

Agreed! Let us disable Immersive Mode!

I hope someone can write us an Xposed module or something to disable this retarded "feature".
Can't believe there are no responses to this...

I can understand need for IM in landscape mode on 16:9 AR device, but hey... This should be optional.

Did some googling and found a guide on how to add/remove certain apps from immersive mode on a nexus 7. Not sure what everyone here is running, but it involves having a rooted device and unknown sources enabled in the settings. Haven't tried it yet, but thought I'd post it here quick before I gave it a shot.

This article is a bit misleading. I thought it would help also, but it does not.
This method only works for forcing Immersive Mode, it does not prevent immersive mode on an application.

I've been busy all day so I haven't had the chance to try it, but towards the end of the article doesn't it give instructions on how to turn immersive mode off for specific applications? It says that turning it off for an app is as easy as turning it on for an app. Does this not work, or does the option not present itself? Strange...

The article is based on a much older version that the current 2.2 release of the module. I don't have the older version so I cant say that it used to work or not. But the latest version of the Xposed module works very differently.
It shows you all the apps, with Immersive unchecked, and you "enable" immersive mode by clicking the box. But clearning the checkbox has no affect on applications that you were not already forcing it on for.

Any news yet on if it's possible to disable immersive mode system wide?

Still looking...
I'm also still looking for a solution to this "feature."
I use a reader app that keeps hiding UI elements when it enters immersive mode... very annoying.

I switched to KitKat 2 days ago (4.4.4). However, I had to use a custom ROM (Omnirom) since Samsung does not provide any updates for my good old n7000 anymore.
So I don't know anything about other KitKat versions regarding this topic, but I found that Omnirom has an option built in (settings-security-lockscreen-disable immersive mode).
It can also be accessed by swiping down the status bar and using the corresponding quick settings button to toggle immersive mode.
That's all

Sadly, this option works in exactly opposite way: In Omnirom when its not enabled, it leaves default KK experience with immerisve mode only in Fullscreen apps that are built against newest SDK, or when enabled it forces Immersive Mode on all apps, including launcher, system-wide. http://poradnik.telewizor.eu/news.php

Any update on this? I haaaaaattttteeeee immersive mode.

Bump
Still looking for a way to disable immersive mode system wide. The note 4 and android 4.4 is a real downgrade for me overall. The worse task switcher, the worse immersive mode that no one asked for, the worse SD card restrictions that no one cared about and not to mention the wifi is very slow on my note 4.

Every search I find leads here... as stated previously, everything else out there is to "enable" it....
I really can't believe this drastic ui change is forced onto us, Android is the os of options... where is the option?
It's even more annoying that to get back the nav buttons, or top task bar, that the phone has to be rotated just right, or swiping doesn't work, half the screen stays blank after it closes, etc... I just want it off, want to see my navigation all the time!!!!

I hate Immersive mode!!!!!! :crying::crying::crying:

How to remove blocking mode notification in status bar?

I really like the blocking mode built into the os, but is there any way to remove the notification from the status bar when blocking mode is enabled?
Sendt fra Tapatalk
I have same query
I was wondering the same thing , its great but also a bit annoying being in the notification bar
Not that i know of, but it should stay there, you need to know it's on since it disables key functions.
I noticed that, while blocking mode was enabled, whatsapp sounds still go off in the middle of the night.

True, but we don't need to know it's enabled when it's not doing anything. If you set the between time it should disappear when it's not affecting anything.
Looking for a way to get Tasker of NFC Task list to enable and disable it.
Yeah... this notification is pretty annoying...
I hate it too... And just like everything else it shows how samsung can't make 100% good software.... Everything is always "almost good"... There is always something that spoils everything... That's why I can't stay with sammy rom for too long...

yeah I agree this thing is completely annoying, it should be in the status bar when on, not when off! Image having a notification all the time that says your alarm is scheduled to go off in 8 hours.

that's the beauty of technology.. nothing is "perfect" otherwise, if everything is perfect on sammy then we wouldn't be in XDA now, would we?
I managed to hack away this notification!
The process is relatively lengthy, and does require a rooted, deodexed ROM... But it works!
The notification will be COMPLETELY removed - it will not show up even when blocking mode IS actually active (i.e. during the active hours).
Anyway, in case you're interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32872016#post32872016

I'm not sure if that'd work. It might remove the icon from the notification bar (the thin one on top), but likely not the ongoing notification when you drag it down fullscreen.
I'll try tomorrow and post it, but I think I remember seeing all that icons (the quick settings icons too) in system framework...
JFYI, I've put a couple of CWM zips together, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943987
By the way, couldnt find the icons on framework.apk
if you pull down your notification bar and press and hold blocking mode notification you will see app info, click on that and you should see a box about notifications and if you uncheck that the icon and notification will go away.

You can't uncheck this one, it's checked and greyed out (in other words permanent).

[Request] Option to limit Quick Settings toggles

Quick Setting toggles in Paranoid are awesome, I really appreciate how they work.
However, I miss the option from CM to edit the toggles behaviour, intended as which options the toggle can show.
In my specific case, I would like to:
- remove the Device option from GPS toggle and use just Low/High precision
- remove LTE from Mobile Data Switcher, as I have no 4G traffic (I love Italy for this things... and sarcasm) so I can have 2G and 2G/3G (someone maybe prefer 3G only)
If anyone has any other preferences, write them below, I'd apreciate if others have my same thought.
Feature requests belong in the bug tracker

Will try to understand JIRA in this case...
also, if we could get an update on that quick notification settings so we can decide if left or right edge of screen shall pull it down.. not just random.
thank you
@Pirateghost I can't register on JIRA; is that normal?

Re: Option to limit Quick Settings toggles
Whenever, I start my phone, all the toggles are there. The other best thing about this I had discovered is in order to remove them, one can simply turn off the toggles via notification switch or just via uninstalling the entire app.

I have no idea what this means. The QS tiles are not able to be uninstalled.

XDA Navigation Gestures App

Hi, has anyone tried a new application by XDA? What are your thoughts?
Google Play link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
my navigation bar does not hide...
I'm trying it right now. And it's not too bad. Only complaint is you can't change the transparency so that small bar will always be there. But you can change the size and make it really small so it won't be that noticeable.
So far, it seems like a good alternative to All in One Gestures. Will update on battery life later.

It won't hide my navigation bar .
Works pretty well
It works pretty well for the most part, though on apps where they are black you can see a white line on the very bottom of the screen. Which is kinda annoying.

If you want hide the stock navigation bar, I find a workaround using immersive mode. You can enable it in nogaut too using an app called "SystemUI Tuner" and giving to it adb permission through a pc (so without root).
I don't like too much this gesture so i return to stock, but if you want this work.

Don't know why but it doesn't ask for root permission (needed in order to hide the navbar), so you need the adb commands, for the rest it works pretty well.

For hide the navbar you can switch the app proportion for the 18: 9 and set the permissions again. After this, turn off the gestures and turn on. If this not work, restart the phone. For me it works.

Can't find the scale option under lg g6 with 8.0.
There are some apps there but no navigation gestures.
I think with Android 7 I had the option. Now I can't find it any more. Can someone assist?
Or is it obsolete with Android 8 ?

But the navigation bar doesn't hide automatically, I used SystemUI Tuner from the playstore to hide it.

Yes
Hello, when i'm trying to grant permission i only get :"Operation not allowed: java.lang.SecurityException: grantRuntimePermission: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.GRANT_RUNTIME_PERMISSIONS." what can i do pls ?
I have the porblem that if I open an app lets say, Instagram or Armorfly Browser, the white line at the bottom just dissapears. Then I was swiping up from the bottom to try and get it back or at least the nav bar, after a few tries, the nav bar and the white line for the gestures were showing and dissapearing all the time, it was like they were having a fight for who will stay at the bottom of my screen haha
Does anybody know a fix for that?
Thanks
I'mf facing the following problem, the app is constantly loosing it's rights

Force to disable the Immersive Mode

Hello
Does anybody knows if it is possible to force not to use at all the immersive mode (full-screen)?
Background is, that on my phone, a Cubot Note Plus with Android 7.0 the TouchScreen is a bit broken. The top part, two rows of Touch-pixels are not working anymore. I cannot swipe down the NotificationBar with that fault and I use some work-arounds for it (with Tasker, Xposed Additions and Lightning-Launcher) to swipe down the NotificationBar anyway (by other buttons with a Task or by gesture).
This is a Cubot Note Plus disease, I had that fault nearly exactly with my former Cubot Note Plus and it happened only after about 4 months of use each time. Some rare times it still works again, but it is a while that it did the last time now, I think its gone now.
I can use the phone but it is annoying, because some apps have important buttons in the top part and they force fullscreen.
Even some apps doesn't allow to auto rotate the screen, so I cannot use these apps anymore (e.g. Autodesk)
I never was able to disable generally Fullscreen / Immersive Mode. Not with "Force Immersive Mode", an Xposed module and not with the app "Immersive Manager 1.2.1" (where it says in the help: "Note that it's also not possible to override the immersive mode of an app in case it uses the immersive mode itself").
Or another, more complicated way were to crop the active display?
Then I would like to discard the top of the display, so that the whole display is some pixels smaller in height. It is about the height of the NotificationBar in the top. The display-output should then just not use this part of the display and the phone should think it has a smaller display.
This solution would be much more drastic I guess.
Thanks for any hint.
frank
PS.: the question on Stackexchange is unfortunately unaswered (only with a not working answer).

Immersive Mode app?

Is anyone using any immersive mode apps(the ones that allow you to hide the navigation and the status bar)? On my Note 10+ I am using one called Granular Immersive Mode but it does not seem to be working on the V60.
I already gave the app all the permissions through ADB commands and all went smoothly but still apps have the status bar on top.
Drives me nuts to think that notification will be burned on the screen because of that.
I figured this out, there was an extra toggle to make the phone apply the immersive mode to all the apps. I am also using the XDA 'Navigation Gestures' app and loving the phone so far. I am glad I blew my budget for phones this year on this instead of the note 20+ Ultra
