A better way (??)
Why would one want to do this?
1. Extended ROM is (as ITSME has pointed out) a Disk on Chip.
1a. It is totally lockable/unlockable -- and can be deleted/added to if one wants to, as long as one understands a few basic things.
2. When the device is hard resetted, after booting is complete, one automatically runs the CAB files in Extended ROM that "localize" the device in accordance with the Carrier's wishes. This is a good thing, and a bad thing... especially if the SW they install is Caller ID, for example, that eats memory and battery performance. But it is a needed thing for the most part in my opinion.
BUT.....
What if you could do the following:
1. Delete your entire extended Rom (ITSME has shown this to be possible)
2. Take the extended ROM files "as is" from all of the carriers out there -- kind of like ala carte menu choices -- and place them somewhere where upon your choosing, could be installed immediately at one's whim (even with the same parameters and running as if they were still came from the Extended ROM)
3. Never have to worry about flashing your device again, unless there is a significant OS reason to do so.
4. Forget using tools one doesn't need to use.
5. Tweaking a config.txt file -- why bother if ya don't have to.
Sound Good????
In my opinion, the only real reason we have many people out there playing around with flashing ROMS is that they want a "perfectly customized device" every time they hard reset. The REAL, Operating System upgrades and Radio stack upgrades are not needed as often and people are willing to wait until their device OEM gets around to the upgrading themselves.
Bottom line: Hard Reset, install your own programs to your liking, and have your device almost as if you never resetted it up and running in a matter of minutes (2 or 3, not 30) with no risk at all to your ROMS.
If this is what people REALLY would rather have, instead of flashing extended ROMS and risking killing their machines....
In a day or two, I will have a (very) little app made that can do this, and show you the "secret" (though I think this is not a secret -- but could be wrong) do doing this.
This post is sent out to "test the water" on this app/solution I will provide.

Feel free to comment, so I can see if people want it or not -- so I will know if to bother making (have made) /telling how to do this.

Excellent idea. Just a simple list of cab files with location, check box to select and parameters if required is all thats needed inmo. You could then store the cab where you want, SD or Extrom, and then after a hard reset just run the app to execute the select cab's
Can't wait, certainly prevent all those deep despare moments when it doesn't go smoothly and you think you've trashed you device !!!

Ok, here is the deal: I don't have time today to test all of the in's and out's of this -- but by leveraging the power of this forum, I think it will quickly be all figured out and expanded upon.
1. Most people don't know that if you place a directory called "2577" on an SD Card and place in it a file called "Autorun.exe", the file will run when you place the card in the slot of your device. This works for smartphones, XDA2's and Ipaq's (so I am guessing that it is a WIN CE thing).
2. If you could develop an app whose sole purpose was to execute the cab files in the directory (easy to make, for a dev), you could autoload apps at will.
This means that after a hard reset, if your Ext ROM was empty, you could basically mimmick the loading of the stuff when and how you want to -- without cooking an External ROM.
This leaves tons of possibilities
1. using the EXT ROM area for storage that will not go away on Hard Resets and is larger than the normal persistent storage on our devices.
2. using the EXT ROM area for "private storage" that can be hidden with ITSME's tools.
3. using the SD Card to not only load your preferred files, but also (if someone is really clever and can figure this out) your connection settings and what ever other REG settings you feel like.
I HAVE FOUND ONE "CATCH" HERE...
The autorun.exe will execute upon card removal too, so one will have to probably rename the file while in the device or the directory name to "2577XX" so it will not run again.
if you let your mind wander a bit -- the possibilities are endless here
but again, I have not tested out all of the possibilities nor tested it for problem situations -- so that is where the power of the forum comes in. Seems easy to experiment without nuke-ing your device.
I am going to erase my EXT ROM, make my own version of what I want on the SD card, and use the EXT ROM for storing stuff I don't want to lose ever.
By all means... comment, take this idea and run with it.
I am going to have a little app made that will run all cabs in the 2577 directory in a few days -- but I am dependent upon a DEV resource so the delivery time of this "5 minute application" is not 100% known.

Ah! I think I understand now. "Autorun.exe" can be any executable program, just name it "Autorun.exe". Right?
It work like a charm. I copy a program "Autoconfig.exe" and rename it to "Autorun.exe". Then move it to dir "2577". When I insert SD card into the socket, it stand still, nothing happen. But when I turn off and then on, it execute the said program. Then I Off and On for second time, it won't execute, which is correct. It will execute the program again if I take the SD out from the socket.
I can then play a lot of things with it.

you are right.. any EXE program can be renamed autorunexe. I have not got all the permutations worked out yet as to what can or cannot be done yet, but if time allows I will do more research.
I am expecting my little EXE to be finished today, where it's sole purpose will be to run all CAB files in the directory.
When done, then I will post it here.
If anyone has ideas as to how to re-do the connections / reg settings and place them in a CAB file, like the OEMs do, then you can comletely customize evrything at will, with a power-on.
For portugal here are the configs, in a .cab for each portughese mobile operator.

how autorun works
when you insert the sdcard the autorun.exe is copied to \windows, and executed as '\windows\autorun.exe install'
when you remove the sdcard, '\windows\autorun.exe uninstall' is executed, and then autorun.exe is deleted from \windows.
So then, in theory, if you manually delete this file before removing the SD card -- it would not run again then, right?
Trying to think of ways to automate the entire Hard Reset issue -- select your Extended ROM programs / settings you want -- and then plug and play. Changing EXT ROMS made to be as simple as selecting which SD card to install after Hard Reset.
Plus, if the last thing you did before the Hard Reset was to perform a backup to a secure area (like the now empty EXT ROM area), you could also have the autorun program look for the back up and do a restore. May be easier than trying to place all settings into CABS and you benefit from having your data again after a Hard Reset -- all in a few sinple steps.
That is the whole purpose of my activities / efforts here. I hard reset at least 2 times a week (I have special reasons for this).
obviously -- some of the ideas presented up to now are simply brainstorming the possibilities. hope to come up with the right and complete idea soon and have it made here. Then post it here for all.

It's so simple. Why on Earth would you pay someone to do it?
You download the one that looks best to you from HD2 Android Development, unzip it, and put the Android folder onto your sd card.
Not inside any folders on your card, just on the card.
Then in Windows Mobile, you go to your file explorer, go into the Android folder on your sd card, tap CLRCAD (nothing will happen, thats ok just tap it each time you start Android) and then tap Haret.
It really is as simple as putting a folder onto your sd card.
Just do it yourself. If you manage to screw it up, it won't mess up your phone and somebody on this forum will take pity on you and show you where you messed up

I started this thread because I had just discovered that I can't do the install on my mac with an emulator. I really need to do it myself just so I know how to do it so I don't have to hassle finding someone to do updates. Sooooo, I'm doing a clean install on an old Windows machine just to get this done.
Are there simple non-developer instructions anywhere on how to do this? I've had two people tell me how simple this is but the instructions on this forum don't seem that simple with terms like "flash, etc. What does the term "flash" mean?

It's called that because of the type of memory. Anyway, it basically means install. "Flashing" a new radio means you're installing a different version while overwriting the existing one.
HOW TO FLASH:
Use "CustomRUU.exe" to flash the file (.nbh file extension). Phone must be connected and have >50% battery. If the CustomRUU.exe isn't included, download here:

Step 1 - HSPL3 must be installed.

Instead of a virtual machine (is it Parallels?) why not use BootCamp, then you have a full Windows os on your mac - and you can flash.
I'll see if I can borrow a mac again and test flashing via Parallels.
I would love to help you for free - you just have to spend a plane ticket from Denmark (with lots of snow and freezing temperature) ;-)

I'm utterly stunned... I thought a Mac could do everything... and do it better than Windows, faster than Windows, more stylishly than Windows and made the user more intelligent, more likable and better looking at the same time...

On the few times I have run Windows on a Mac (via Parallels and Bootcamp), it runs really well. It just goes to show that the main problems with Windows is that of the sloppy drivers for the hardware that the hardware manufacturors provide. Since Apple only have a couple of computers, therefore they can afford to take time to develop device drivers for Windows.
Just to clarify please and sorry to be asking lame questions...
1) Is this true? "The best most reliable Froyo ROM for the HD2 is the 2.2.1 Custom Nexus HD2-FRG83D V1.8 Froyo ROM. Very stable and everything works perfectly." Is that accurate?
2) Are you saying that I can do the entire install of everything on my Mac with an emulator (VMWare Fusion) as long as I do it the way you describe?
3) Are you saying that I should change the name of the nbh file to leoimg.nbh and then drop it into my SD card?
4) My HD2 came with Android on it but it runs slow and clunky and won't make calls, etc. Its basically unusable so I'm assuming it wasn't installed correctly. There is nothing on the SD card that I care about. Should I format the SD card before starting the new build? And is there anything on the Windows side that I should delete first before starting too?

I would be willing to pay somebody for simple step by step clear non-nerdy instructions on how to install this stuff (Android, reformat SD card to FAT32, radio, etc., etc.) Seriously! You know, Step 1: Do this ya moron. Step 2: Now put this file named this in here idiot. Step 3: Now do this retard, etc.
Here are some more questions please...
1) What is the difference between a "sense" build and a "non-sense" build? Advantages, disadvantages?
2) When I plug the usb from my hd2 into my computer I don't see or recognize what is the SD card folder and I don't know where to install what I'm supposed to install. Here is what I see...
Removable Disk (E) > Application Data folder > HTC folder > databases folder > DocExp folder (with all this stuff in the DocExp folder: flintlock, postlist, postlist.baseB, record.baseA, termlist, termlist.baseB, iamflint, post.baseA, record, record.baseB, termlist.baseA)

OK, when you first start up your phone, and there are little red numbers and stuff down it the corner, look next to the letter 'R'
If it is X.XX.50.XXXX, then you're OK and don't need to change radio's and the process is very simple. (The X's can be any number, doesn't matter, as long as the 3rd set as shown are 50, not 51 or anything else.) So if it's 50, don't worry about the signed_ruu.nbh file or leoimg.nbh or flashing a radio. If it's not 50, you will need to change radio.
Next, when you plug the phone to your computer, the place where you find the 'Application Data' folder and the file 'EncFiltLog.menc', that is the root of your sd card. That is where the Android folder that you download and unzip will go.
So you will download the nicest looking build that you like the best, it will be in a .zip or .7z archive. You open the archive and take the 'Android' folder out and place it on your desktop. Then you drag it and drop it right next to your 'Application Data' folder. Don't put it in the 'Application Data' folder, just in the same place where that folder is at.
Removeable Disk E is your memory card, the root of the card simply means just on the card, not within any folders on the card, just on the card. That's where the Android folder goes, on the root of the card.
As far as Sense vs. No-Sense builds, Sense is maybe a little more user(noob) friendly, but it uses more of your phone's resources, so sometimes tends to lag (slow down, run slow) more than a no-sense build. For you, I would say try a Sense build first. Once you have installed one build, you will become more confident and really see how easy it is. Then you can experiment with different builds and see what is best for you.
After you have put the Android folder on the root of your sd card, alls there is left to do is to use the File Explorer on your phone to find the Android folder on your sd card, go inside that folder, first tap CLRCAD (it won't appear to do anything, but it actually enables sound in Android) (if your phone says the application is not from a trusted source,and asks do you want to continue, just click 'yes') and then tap Haret, a box will appear with a progress bar, and then Android will boot up (start).
The first time you run an Android build, it can take up to 15 minutes to start up. This is normal, just give it a while.
Then when it starts up, enter all the data it asks for (GMail, email addresses, etc. nothin major) and then when you have finished with that, and you end up at the phone's Android homescreen, hold the 'End Call' button, and choose 'reboot' and if there's no reboot option, just choose 'shut down' and then restart Android the same way as before. For some reason, rebooting after the first time like that actually helps Android to run more stable over the long term.
If you follow these instructions exactly as I have written them, you cannot fail. Now go, and enjoy Android

I think you prove my point quite well... Macs are pretty much a single entity unto themselves. What Apple says, goes. Nothing else is acceptable. If you are prepared to be so limited then go ahead and stay with Apple products - they are for those who think they have imagination but are actually fooled into a "groupthink".

I installed Android and added my info (email address, etc.) and then restarted it like you said to do. Of course Windows loads first and when I tap the Android icon to launch Android it says: "The file Android cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." Since this phone had Android on it when I bought it last week (but it didn't work properly), I'm assuming that is the old Android launcher?? I did reformat the SD card via the Windows side of the phone before I installeded Android just now. Can you or anyone please tell me how I can get Android to launch now?

UPDATE: I opened the Android folder and tapped CLRCAD and then HARET again and got the same error message as I explained above when I tap the Android icon. Also, and maybe this is normal since I'm still in Windows, but when I try to open any of the other files in the same folder (like INITRD, ROOTFS, etc., I get an error message that says: "There is no application associated with XXXXX. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application."
Another question please: The guy I bought this phone from was using T-Mobile but I'm going to use Simple Mobile. Does doing all the stuff I just did unlock this phone or do I still need to use an unlock code when I insert the sim card? (I will need to call Simple Mobile to activate the new Simple Mobile sim card in order to transfer my existing number over to this HD2)

Does anyone know how to stop the Auto-Run prompt to install drivers whenever you connect a Rezound to a PC? I've already attempted to install the drivers several times. The first time, after installing, the app said I needed to subscribe to additional VZW services, which I declined. But, I was still prompted again. Every subsequent time I allowed the install to run, the installer would hang at some point.
Down load HTC SYNC from the net to your pc and install it on your pc. After installation, uninstall HTC SYNC from the pc. The drivers will be left behind and your pc will stop asking.

I have HTC Sync on my computer now, and I use it. Won't removing it prevent me from sync'ing Outlook with my Rezound?
It is that Verizon virtual drive that pops up in addition to the HTC Storage drive (Internal phone "SD" memory) and the SD Card (External SD Card memory.)
Most every custom ROM around here deletes that thing as part of eliminating Verizon's bloatware; I would suggest deleting the files inside the virtual drive and see if that helps prevent any Autorun of the files. There is probably a tool or guide around here for removing that on the stock ROM.
Edit: Nevermind this technique, as OP said it is a disc image and files cannot be deleted as such.
Go in and rename cdrom.iso I believe it is to .bak, the problem will stop.
There are posts about it, I did it so long ago, one of the first things I did when we got root.

Where might one find that .ISO you referred to? I tried looking at the internal and external "storage" spots, but to no avail. This stuff is so irritating; if I don't dismiss that window every time, my CPU on my PC goes into overdrive, kind of like when you leave a dialog box open without answering it.

The file is located at \system\etc\cdrom.iso from root; you can't access that normally so you will need to be rooted in order to delete it manually. There was a bloatware tool that used a temp root exploit on the original firmware of the phone, but the OTA update broke that temp root method. Since the OTA, you must unlock the bootloader to obtain root access.
Assuming you may not want to root your phone just yet around here, so this may be worth a shot. It is a workaround if you are on Windows 7, culled this from a web search so I can't vouch for it, but with that said:
1. Installed the VZ Media Manager. After installation, ran the program once and cancelled all of the updates etc. that it wants to do.
As soon as you plug in the phone, it tries to start the media manager program with verizon.exe but no longer goes to the web site telling you to install the software.
2. Renamed C:\Program Files\Verizon V CAST Media Manager\verizon.exe to verizon.exx
3. Used a scripting program to create a new .exe file named verizon.exe that does nothing but a meaningless set command. ("set noverizon=") and put the .exe file in the programs folder shown above.
Now when I plug in the phone, nothing happens except the Windows run option box comes up - no prompts for anything Verizon. The verizon.exe program still runs, but it does nothing and you never see it.
You could always rename verizon.exe verizon2.exe if you really want to ever run the program.

Just tried this and it seems to be resolving my issues with the popup. However I installed the VMM (Verizon Media Manager) Mode Selector but had not installed vcast yet. Use [Windows Key] + R to invoke the Run dialog. Type in "msconfig" and hit enter. Select the Startup tab. Find the VMM Mode Selector entry and unclick it.

Option 1 sound like the smart way to go. Problem is, for me, the program does not install to begin with, so I have no such folder on my C: drive. I even checked my installed programs in Control Panel to be sure. What a PITA!

Publisher is Microsoft corporation, so it is safe to say they do stuff that is unavailable to the user.
PS: this should be removed. You can download and open any appx/xap from the marketplace. Nice copyright protection there.
I believe these xap must be like normal zip files that we download similar to the pc deployment method but I found that these xaps are also encrypted. That's sad

@titi66200: Pretty sure you can access the on-phone Downloads folder via MTP (I forget though, it's been a while since I had to make do with "official" MTP access). You can definitely access it with an on-device file browser like Aerize Explorer. Maybe the MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder subfolder is hidden or something, though...?
Yes MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder is hiden, on my 830 access via mtp is ok.
But no MTP on my 1020
@mcosmin222: They aren't encrypted *on the store*. That's no a feature, bug, or hack of the tool; that just "MS didn't bother to encrypt APPX". You can download (unencrypted!) APPX bundles straight from http://www.windowsphone.com/. Here's a random example, right off the page for the currently-first app in the spotlight list: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/s...f6-4262-a3c7-1b9565d5d7b4/xap?apptype=regular Despite the URL implying it's a XAP, it's actually a .appxbundle file. Open that as a ZIP archive, and you'll find a few (plaintext) XML files and a bunch of (unencrypted) .APPX files. Open one of *them* as a ZIP, and you'll find a bunch of plaintext metadata files and plaintext binaries.
I'm as anti-piracy as anybody on this forum, but MS isn't even *trying* to secure these files. You can download them, unauthenticated, unencrypted, straight off the world wide web.

An oldie but a goldie!
I've changed from S6 32g, to S6Eedge 64g since I was running out of space.
Now I need to transfer 4000 photos (sorted by date) to the new phone. A direct copy/move from PC converts all the created dates to the current date (ie when transfer was done) which as you can imagine screws everything up royally!
Ive tried and failed in many many many ways including:
FTP
Syncing programs from pc to phone
ADB push
WEBdav
Hail marys, and praying to every god out there
They all bugger up the dates...........
The ONLY ONLY way Ive found out that works is by zipping up the original files, transferring to new phone, and unzipping locally with Total Commander. ONLY Total Commander seems to be able to unzip and preserve the dates, all the other file managers and extracting programs (I tried 10-15) out there can NOT manage this. Total Commander probably works cuz im rooted, and it can use this.
HOWEVER this only worked with smaller directories, but my main pics folder is an 8 gig compressed zip, and when I try the same way Total Commander only manages to unzip some 700 files and stops (anyone else come across this limitation?). So the only way I can manage is to zip up the original files in 7-8 different zip files and unzip locally individually, which is a big hassle.
Ive googled many threads on this problem, most of them were unresolved and some solutions refer to previous android versions or software and dont work anymore.
I'm hoping that you all dont spend four days setting up a new phone everytime ( home screen and app settings is a whole different drama! Thank you Titanium backup! iOS really has the jump on Andoird when it comes to changing phones...)
The only thing I can think of which I havent tried yet is USB OTG, since I dont have the cable. Anyone can confirm whether this method keeps the dates unchnaged?
So in your experience, whats the best way of doing this? How do you guys do it?
Why you need to store such a large amount of photos in your phone.
Did you try to sync to flickr or google photos?

I want to have immediate access, cant rely on patchy internet connection, areas without coverage (inside a lot of buildings, or basements) and can you imagine how much it would cost when roaming?

I used Total Commander on the phone through the LAN plugin function, to access my backup folder on the pc, select all files and copy to local phone directory.
You need to initiate the copy from the PHONE on Total Commander, ie pull the files onto the phone, dont copy them by drag and drop from PC.
It took a while but it was done!
Dates and timestamps all preserved and correct!

I've been trying to tackle this same problem over the last few days with no luck. I just tried total commander and it was unsuccessful. Was there anything special you did? Like you mentioned the entire copy process was initiated on the phone via total commander. However, I'm not rooted so I'm wondering if that's the issue...

Has any of you tried compressing the images on your device to a zip file and then unzipping them on the PC?

Re your question about moving files from phone to PC, I used the usual way of plugging the phone into pc by USB, and simply copying from windows explorer. Things were ok for me like that.
Or as Ibuporfen said, try zipping the pics folder on the phone, transfer the zip file, and decompress on the pc.
I think the confusion here is the difference between CREATED and MODIFIED dates.
Try copying a file locally in windows ie from PC to PC, you see it always gets the current CREATED date and not the original date. I use the MODIFIED dates as my preferred sort method, which is the common sort option in many apps, so MODIFIED date is the one that matters to me.
Are you by any chance on the pc trying to sort by CREATED date instead of the MODIFIED? If proper sorting is what you are trying to achieve, is the created date critical for you? And if for some reason MODIFIED date column is not showing up, you can always add that column in the windows file explorer.
As a general update, my procedure now, for repeated use which I do about once a week, to have a current backup of the photos on the phone is as below:
1- Get "FTP server" (by olivetreesoftware, or any other ftp Server for android)
2- Get goodsync https://www.goodsync.com/ for pc
3- Setup a sync job from phone to pc over FTP (this was the only way I cold reliably get access to the phone and its files, cuz now the USB conncection is all about MTP, music files and that kinda of rubbish, which makes it really difficult to accesses it just as a disc.
4- This way I easily copy the files from my phone, to a backup folder on a pc so i have an uptodate backup, and every week or so when I run the program, the backup folder gets updated with all the deletions and additions that have happened on the phone! For copying BACK from pc TO phone, I still use the TotalCommander method, and I think to preserve dates, phone needs to rooted....
I had to this many times recently, since for some strange reason, there was a time that some system app (Samsung S6 Edge, never found which app or why) would suddenly change ALLLLLLLL the dates of ALLLLLL my pictures to the present moment, so you can imagine how that messed up all the sorting of the pics! I had to update my ROM and thankfully this bug has not appeared again. I still get some random changes when the seconds field is set to zero, but as long as the year/day/hours/minutes are not messed up, I can live with that.

Hey where do you stay mate? Because Im about to come over to your place and KISS YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE! ITS FINALLY WORKING! AFTER 3 DAYS OF GRINDING TO FIND A SOLUTION. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have around 9000 plus photos that I keep with me at all times (from older iPhones, just jumped into the android bandwagon, which is why I had to do this), and its my only photo journal, and I need to access them based on the date and organization of the gallery. Its still transferring as I type this, but I know its working since I checked the gallery and the pictures that usually pop up in "today"'s folder, shows up in the right date.

Get the lan plugin for Total commander:
Click on LAN, add in the static IP address, user name and password of the PC that contains the pictures you want to transfer.
Copy paste FROM THE APP itself! (Make SURE the folder that contains the pictures have the SHARE feature on in Windows.

A question though, are you on OREO, and if not are you rooted?
Cause the method/drama above is needed on pre Oreo phones, and works only on rooted devices (as I found out after lots of trial and error). The problem is/was lack of write permissions on non rooted devices, ie apps were not allowed to update the dates on files if not rooted.
I just came back to this thread to update it and add whats below, and I saw your post!
On my new S8 which I got in January, I couldn't be bothered with rooting etc, so I didn't have my pics on the new phone for a couple of months and just waited for OREO.
As I posted on an Oreo update thread elsewhere, this is now fixed on Oreo:
YEY! Finally got the XEU update!
And miracle of miracles, Google finally fixed the file write permissions, which means even when non-rooted you can copy files to the phone, and the file dates don't change. Which means that you can copy your pics etc from a PC to the phone and the file dates stay intact, so the sort order isn't screwed up! Only been waiting 4 years for this, since most phones removed the external SD card option! Now we have the SD card back, but for other apps like whataspp etc that still use the internal memory, this is finally fixed!!!!

However, some apps (filemanagers, filesync apps etc eg Airdroid) still dont do this properly, but totalcommander works perfectly. I still havent tried a direct copy from pc to phone (by usb cable) so no idea if this simplest method works now.
As a suggestions(same as in my previous post, Im still doing it since it works very well), this is my current setup for regular backup of all my phone pics to a pc :
Put an ftp server on your android, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver&hl=en
Get this app for your pc, https://www.goodsync.com/
On the goodsync app, add the directories on the phone you need backed up, plus the backup storage directory, and any additional options
Whenever you want to backup your phone pics, just launch the ftp app on phone, and through goodsync, backup all the new and changed pics etc to a pc hard drive through the WIFI (don't need to plug in the phone). Works great!
PS I copied my pics to the now OREO phone, first with the totalcommander through wifi (to check that it works now!), and then using a USB stick with the OTG adapter (since it was 13gigs, and then using totalcomamnder to copy from usb to internal memory). And it worked fine, so this is another method. You could also try putting a zip file on the phone and unzipping them there, which hopefully due to the fixed permissions should work also!

I have similar problem on my Huawei Mate 10 PRO, which runs on Android 8.0.0, with the security updates from 01.01.2018., kernel 4.4.23+. This phone has only the internal storage, no sd card. And when I am trying to copy/move files from external storage (i.e. with usb drive on OTG), then the files have the current date, the original is gone. I tried to change the date of file in the internal storage with total commander, and I get the error with no priveleges. Do you think, that this

Hello there!
I have no experience with Huawei, so cant give you a perfect answer. As far as I found out the write privilege option was implemented in Oreo, so I assume that means from the first versions of Oreo.
I can suggest a couple of things though.
1- Zip your pics on the pc, and then put the zip file on the usb card, and try unzipping to the phone (using totalcommander) . If it doesn't work, try copying the zip file first on to the phone memory and unzip from there
2- Use totalcommander to copy the files on to the phone using the network method as mentioned previously.
PS on further thoughts, try copying a file ALREADY on the phone, to a different directory, and see what the date is on the copied file. If I remember correctly, before the Oreo update, when I copied a file (instead of move) it always got a new current date, but now when I copy it still retains the original date. By checking this, you can find out if your Huawei, will or will not let an app set the date when performing a copy/move operation.

Even after setting up right and left folders i keep getting errors. Can u kindly give me a link or guide me how to set it up ?

Maybe a quick update from me: after switching phones I installed Whatsapp and it reloaded all media (animated gif, pics and video) from it's own backup store. And all the dates were 31 May 2018. I copied these Whatsapp folders to my linux pc over wifi using Ghost Commander and the SMB plugin. Works similar to TC, no root required.
Now the neat trick: because the date (and sometimes the time) is in the filename, I could reset dates to the original with a oneliner using touch.
After that, copied the folders back with Ghost Commander (replace always) and all was set

Definitely (with Ghost Commander, but TC will be the same I expect). I have copied MP3 and M4A files, .epub files, etc....
have been tryin to get my 4000+ photos to my iphone since last week. just figured out this easiest way to do this. Using the Documents app wont show the correct date and time the photos were taken. Using a .zip file wont work either. If u have the correct dates n time on the files u have on ur pc, download SHAREit to ur pc and iphone. Connect both to same wifi and probably i dont have to tell u guys how to do a file transfer.
If the dates are wrong on the files on the pc, download File Date Corrector n fix the dates.

We're all trying to do the same thing! It's amazing an easier solution doesn't exist off-the-shelf.
So I've just been through the same process coming here late in the game. Like you guys I've been trying to copy images from my OnePlus 3 to my new OnePlus 6 without changing date information. And here's what worked for me :
I installed RAR on both phones from the Play store. I connected an external USB memory stick using an OTG cable. As I am using Oreo I had to enable OTG from the top menu on both phones (I added the OTG option using the top menu editor) before the phones would see the external memory.
Then the process was really straightforward and extremely fast: I created RAR archives for groups of folders from the source phone directly on the memory stick - I had to give it permission to access the external drive - then I moved the memory stick to the new phone, copied the RAR archives to a temporary folder on the phone and finally expanded the contents directly back to their correct positions in the file system.
I can't believe how fast it has been compared, for example, with trying to use SuperBeam over WiFi which also changed file dates and seemed to remove exif data from images making it impossible to index them. Gbytes copied in seconds rather than minutes.

Definitely works with a zip file unzipped using totalcommander on oreo.
I just copied a zip file from pc to phone via normal usb cable.
Then unzipped to the right folder. All dates modified correct.
Works like a charm and very easy.
Finally!! after a long time suffering with zips i accidentally found a program that saved all my pics/videos with modified dates correctly. Fast and you can use in portable mode.
