[Q] When will there be a real AOSP Android for Kindle Fire HDX? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

When will there be a real AOSP Android for Kindle Fire HDX 7' ?
I've got this device fore a while, it's very powerful. But the fire OS is too bad.....
Friends here in this forum have developed a AOSP for thor, first of all, thanks a lot. But unfortunately this AOSP is not working very well. It can't hard codec media, Crash on screen wake up, Headphones out not working, all those problems is killing me.
Me myself doesn't have the ability to develop a AOSP android for Kindle Fire HDX 7', I was wondering if there is someone who can do this help me out.
Thanks very much.

95% of the people here are not developers, but hobbyists. Everything you need to learn is available. If you are looking for someone else to do it, you bought the wrong device. Most people by an HDX because they are an Amazon Prime member & because they use Amazon services. It is not a big developer device & it is locked up pretty good, so there is NO WAY to flash a CM compatible kernel. If AOSP is what you want, then Nexus or G-Tab is a much better choice. There isn't a whole lot of options for the HDX & there won't be unless someone that wants those options takes the time to learn to do it & also unlocks the bootloader. Most of the talented bootloader folks have retired or moved on, or support a million other devices. they are unlikely to move into a restricted device with a forked version of Android, especially with even better hardware like the Xperia Z2 tablet around the corner.

Dual Boot/Multi boot on NT - Android+(windows/linux/other tablet OS)

I'm wondering if it is possible to Dual Boot/Multi Boot Nook Tablet?
e.g. Android + Windows (of course the one for Tablets) OR Linux OR even iOS OR any other?
Anyone interested?
I can be part of this development, though i'm newbie in android world and mostly i'm playing with MatLab, C, C++, Jave (very less) etc. But i think i still can be useful somehow and i am also ready to use my NT for development/testing purpose (provided that i get some solution of backup/restore with apps installed)
thanks
I would consider looking up this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21323255
Adam provides a little bit of insight about dual booting from sdcard and more!

windows 8 doesn't work on the Nook. Only the devices which come out with windows 8 can actually run windows 8. ios also doesn't work because there's no source code out there. Linux is under development, I think it's Adam Outler who does that.
yes, for windows/ios, may not possible but i think, linux is possible. i have been going through the threads. actually due to some hardware issues, like processor etc. NT can't be generalized. also, even with rooting, we are still far behind in using its true capabilities.
CM9 is on it's way. Currently sound doesn't work, the kernel paniks sometimes and some minor bugs are the problems for the devs.
well, looking forward for CM9. i hope it will give more freedom than existing root...
I looking forward for CM7, maybe alpha version will be release few next days.

[Q] Jellybean for Nook Tablet Coming Soon?

OK so i was going to log into google on a computer to access Play and I saw the ad for the Nexus 7 and I read more about it and learned that it will come with android 4.1 and wanted to see if the Nook Tablet will have that abilty since the hardware specs are relatively close together. What I would like to know is if it will be coming out in CM9 for Nook Tablet or simply in a whole new CM or if it will come out at all? Thanks if you devs can let me know or if you guys will need to get a Nexus 7 first to see if you can and then just keep me updated from there.

The hardware spec aren't actually that close. We may see something, but I wouldn't expect anything yet. Keep in mind the source hasn't been released so no one can really work with it until then. Watch the dev section and maybe you'll see it pop up. Still there is work to be done before ICS is even fully functioning.
The hardware specs are not really that close at all. The Nexus 7 has Tegra 3, as the Nook has OMAP4430. Only thing similar is the IPS screen, which really don't share that many bonds.
Jelly Beans source will be released mid July.
Until then nothing can be done to have it on any platform minus leaked GNex.
And mamifsidtect having the device have nothing to do with developing, for that source code is needed.
Jelly Bean is more that doable on our platform, we just need more developers for faster porting.
Now that we've seen that the Kindle Fire is getting Jelly Bean...does anybody still consider it impossible to port 4.1 to the Nook Tablet? (Kidle Fire's specs are actually quite close if not the same as the NT)
Did you look at the thread right below this one? Or check the Development subforum? At all? Haha it's here!

[Q] fstrim support in kindle fire hdx / fire os 3.0 mojito

Hi friends:
I read that the new OS Fire OS 3.0 (Mojito) is based on Android 4.2.x. I think one of the very important feature that was added in Android 4.3 was the fstrim (TRIM) support that regularly schedules the syncing of unused blocks to the storage controller. We already observed that Android devices kept being slower and slower with due time and the missing TRIM support was one of the primary reason.
So I wanted to know did Amazon back ported the complete TRIM support to their Fire OS 3.0, otherwise all the shining and speed that we'll enjoy in the initial days will loose with time.
I know this would be difficult to know at this time when HDX has not been released yet but I heard that Fire OS 3.0 has already been released for older Kindle HD models.
I'd really want to know this.
Thanks.
I'd love for someone to confirm this as well. It's the only thing stopping me from buying this. You can't touch a tablet with these same hardware specs for this low of a price!
When custom ROMs come out, you will be able to use this. Please do not quote me on this, but I am almost positive.

[Q] KitKat On A Chromebook

Hey XDA! This is my first post so bear with me...
Recently Acer announced their new Tegra K1 Chromebook and I have to say it's pretty intriguing. I really want to buy one, my only problem being Chrome OS. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just not robust enough for me. I want to really make use of the K1 by playing more high end games like ones for Android that are more optimized for it. Touchscreen not being a huge issue here. I'd use a PS3 controller of course. Plus with all the apps already developed for the Droid platform it makes a lot more sense than web based Chrome OS.
So, question time.....
Do you think it would be possible to install KitKat or maybe even Android L Beta on a system like this? I have researched it a little and the Tegra uses ARMv7 architecture. I don't know a whole lot about what that means, but as far as I understand it's 64-bit not 32. Does that mean I would have to use a special KitKat OS on this? Also how in the world would I go about doing this? I have successfully installed Ubuntu (I think 12.04) on an older Samsung Chromebook which dual boots both Ubuntu and Chrome OS; however, I am not sure that the steps involved would be the same. Seeing as how this is a fairly new device, Google is of no help whatsoever....
EXTRA, EXTRA!
Would it be possible to make Android the default OS so it auto boots without going to the OS verification screen?
Thanks for reading! Really hope I can get some answers, looking forward to doing some "real" gaming on the cheap!

Bomaker Polaris

Hey there, wondering if anyone has tried to hack/upgrade the Bomaker Polaris? It is running Android 6, if nothing else would be nice to upgrade it to Android 9, but also wondering if there are any general guides, or if there is a good way to check if the internals are generic enough I'll have luck hacking it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I just got a Polaris too. The built in OS is one of the few cons. I'm currently using the Google TV chromecast which thanks to the CEC, controls work decent enough. What sucks is it only has 2 hdmis and I have to use one for the chromecast since the built in OS is unusable. I'd also ask for some keystone adjustment software to make that process way easier
Something I realized is the newer JMGO U2 looks like it has the exact same hardware as the Polaris! Same CPU, same sensors, same input panel, etc. That means both devices could possibly be combined into one thread on here and with increased user numbers, we may discover cool hacks/mods for both of them. I would even be interested in trying Luna OS (JMGO's OS) on my Polaris. Of course the ultimate goal would be full android TV, but that's probably not an easy port at the moment (Because both the Polaris and U2 are stuck on Android 6.0)
