I don't have the same phone as you but Intellidemand / Zen (governor / schedular) seem to be a winning combination for performance vs battery life but it will probably vary from ROM to ROM and supposes the kernel you've installed supports it.
Perhaps you could say what you're hoping to achieve? Max battery life (slow the CPU down) vs performance.

Oh, sorry, I'm hoping to max battery life and maybe speed up the phones performance, (if possible) I got the paid app from the market even though we don't have the same phone but if you could share your settings I guess its better than the factory settings
Once again thank you, and sorry I forgot to put what I was hoping to achieve in my original post

You have to choose. Best performance or best battery. If you want the best compromise then like I said, Intellidemand and zen if your kernel supports them.
I'm not sharing settings as we have different phones and different Kernels so it'd be pointless.
I used to have lots of profiles for various times of day, screen on, screen off etc but now I pretty have two. One for general (min and max are whatever the kernel allows) and a profile for low battery where it max's the CPU at 30-50% whatever is max and changes to the conservative governor.

Ok see didn't know that, so I would choose performance over battery life then I am new to this and don't want to brick my phone I bricked a rooted android trying to change a boot animation using root explorer so just trying to be careful, also if you could help me with the "MHz" settings it would be great to the choices are 497, 754 ,988 & 1209 that would be great to
I have all the good root apps titanium backup pro root explorer pro and a lot others, but lol I just don't know how to use them yet...any knowledge on a boot animation logo change would be appreciated to I learned a little after I bricked ny phone I know that I didn't put it in the right folder but every post I read people say it bricked their phone so maybe I should staw away from it until I am a little bit more experienced idk.
But for cpu performance would be what I would choose
Thanks again..

[Q] SetCPU Questions

Hi I have some questions involving SetCPU on my Motorola Atrix. For one, I'd like to know the ideal profile settings people have to maximize their battery life. Also, does the Atrix have scaling governors at all? The scaling sections are blacked out for me. Perhaps if I got a custom kernel which supports them? Any help would be much appreciated.
"Ideal" can be for some and can't for other, so is very difficult but in my case just have one profile an is less 5% of the battery and is 216-456. Governors will be blacked out at least for Edgan and Faux123 is normal, Faux123 is OC by default and Edgan need to use setcpu to kick in

Well I meant the best profiles to save battery like when the screen is off set the cpu max and min to the lowest values. I basically just wanna know what people have found are the best settings for them. And I'm really not sure what you're talking about in the second part of your reply. Are those custom kernels? Also, does that mean there's no way to get scaling on the Atrix? Thanks.

I have 312 and 216 for screen off. I had tried 216 216 like some people do, but couldn't deal with the wake lag. Still have some with 312 but not as much. TBH not sure how much it helps battery but i think it helps.
Thanks, I set that profile. Any other ones people can suggest to help with battery life?

I am using Faux123 kernel with CM7 on my Atrix 4G and after a quick look, i've seen that almost 75% of my cpu time was already spent at the lowest possible speed 216 MHz. So only downclocking the maximum 1000 MHz might help with the battery life, i guess, but will the effect on performance be acceptable for dialy use? I bought this phone for a dual core 1 Ghz processor, why should i use it like it is 600 Mhz? In the end it all depends on what and how much are you willing to give up.

[Q] megatron ROM

So I installed the megatrom rom today and seems to be working fine. My only question right now is about performance. I am using a benchmarking app to measure performance and don't seem to be getting the 1200+ performance that I've seen in the developer post for the LG Optimus one/T. Are there settings being adjusted to get that performance. To my knowledge the megatron rom is set to around 729 by default, dont' know if there is a way to change it.

use the kernel your developer used. you can also overclock your phone using setcpu (but dont hit set on boot because that can cause a bootloop if your phone cant handle it)

I personally find that having no apps running in the background while I do a bench mark really helps by a couple 100, also am not familiar with megatron rom but any kernal that allows OC will do just set to performance at highest it can go stable to try squeeze every last bit of juice out.

overcloking pros and cons??

hey guys i install custom karnel on my xpera mini...now i can overclock up to 2 ghz..i just wanted to know pros and cons of overclocking..
pros- increased speed and less lagging,
cons- short battery time, increased temprature.
Is it possible to underclock it to get more battery or shelf life from the phone?
we can overclock and underclock if we install custom karnel..

Yeah. Root your phone, and install SetCpu, and you can Underclock freely and thus save lots of battery

Overclock will give you temporary boosts and lets you to showoff, and to get super high benchmark scores , but its not for regular use
Overclocking reduces battery performance and increases heating of device, which might cause your device to get unstable
and of course high temp = bad for the hardware so be careful
My SE mini works very well at 1610 Mhz.No crash,no instability but I use high frequency for max 2-3 hours or when I want to play without lagging
Pros
Immensely fast speed
Massive score on Quadrant
No lag or crashes
Cons
Battery life goes down fast
Phone temp goes up - Massive problem
Phone might get bricked if the phone gets unstable (Happened to my friend)
I only overclock my phone whenever I play games or need to switch between apps constantly. Though I always keep on 1024 as that is the default setting
Recently I overclocked to 2ghz was chkin stability and gosh I burned my battery, its workin but fone keeps restarting n I had to buy new one!! Dis is d con
Pro: faster n better performance!!
Overclock can cuz serious damage too!! But its fine to showoff a lil but in controlled envionment for a short tym!

Overclocking is not actually advisable because there are chances that it will affect your phone and might screw it up in the long run .
Battery drain is inevitable and you will experience it .
Phone will heat up
It may not be good for the other internal components because of the over heat-unlike computers a mobile is not actually equipped with much of cooling system.
There is a good reason why the manufacturer has set a clock speed ,otherwise isn't it better for them to just overclock a phone and sell it for a higher price ?
People who design the custom kernels are just telling the maximum possible value they could overclock to.
Pros-
Bigger numbers
Little more faster performance
it recommended to not overclock always..just overclock when you really need it..
What are peoples thoughts on a modest overclock to bring me back up to the performance I am used to?
Say taking an ACTIVE up to 1300 or so.
With these new NON-OC kernels, are they undervolted? I have seen claims of absolutely massive battery life and I'm reasonably sure some of those were using cpu throttling and an overclock.
So confused at this point. Also heard some of the newer ACTIVE handsets cannot even be rooted.

As in most things if you not overdo it you can enjoy the benefits of better performance without risking your phone. My xperia mini is running up to 1200 (1024 stock). Also minimum speed 122 instead of 245.So better performance when you need it and lower consumption when phone is sleeping.Overall i got the same battery life, 2-3 days as with stock rom.The best thing to do is get an app that lets you make profiles.Like when screen is off min cpu 122 - max cpu 384 etc...
I don't know about these new kernels you're talking about but cpu throttling is something stock kernels do also (if by cpu throttling you mean cpu speed adjustment)

'hotplug' governor gives better battery life and smooth game playing

I'm using the just released LATAM OTA leak (but this also holds true for the first LATAM OTA leak).
The default governor for this 2 OTA leaks is 'interactive' but I was having a very choppy gaming experience, then I decided to change governors and analyze what happened.
When I give 'hotplug' a shot I noticed a much more fluid gaming experience and as time passed I also noticed my battery life was much better.
Did anyone else notice this too?
Anyone else willing to give it a go and share what do you think?
hotplug works better for me as well. ICS LATAM
I hope it gives better battery, it shuts CPU 2 off/on when its not/is needed.
hotplug is the same as ondemand governor except with the ability to turn off the second core when not in use.
How do I change it
Sent from my .211 leak razr do you wanna get cut?
get setcpu or any other cpu management app and then change the governor from in there.
This is great thanks for this thread, i was just thinking of posting this answer in question form.
I notice interactive is not a good as hotplug

You can google up SetCPU governors and there are detailed explanations into how each governor performs and their advantages/disadvantages. For most stock kernels, hotplug is the way to go for dual core phones as most of the better ones are usually in custom kernels.
Will hotplug save more battery than conservative?
I guess you must be rooted for that ?

Yes, of-course. Really works for me too, noticed greater performance and battery life.
unfortunately, not for me. i use CPU Tuner to change from ondemand to hotplug, and the performance was a little more laggy.... dont know about battery life though.
question: whats the high/low threshold you guys use? by default, setting hotplug in CPUTuner sets it to 60/40. i know something like 90/98 probably saves a LOT of battery, but performance is crap. and i dont have time to do full trial n error.... lol
Try using setCPU instead of CPUTuner, the default settings worked wonders for me

ah crap its $2? lol
i'll play around with CPU tuner a bit more...
Looks promising, I think I will give hotplug a shot.

Free for XDA members - look around a bit... and if it makes a difference to you - think about donating $1 or $2 to the dev... you did pay severl hundred for your phone, right? A buck more can't hurt

searched for it. found it. read the thread. and becoz he actually give it for free and only ask for donation, i decided to buy it in the market. thanks! :good:
if i dont read that thread, i wouldnt pay $2 tbh (my cc was damaged enough with Nexus7!)

CPU Throttling to 1Ghz

Hello all
I have a bit of a small problem. I like to run my phone using the Performance Governor but after a while it goes to 1Ghz on all 4 cores despite me running it at 1.8Ghz. Setting it back seems to correct the issue but in time it goes down again.
I believe it is getting a bit warm and thus it hits a limit and the system auto slows to 1Ghz.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour? It never happened to me before but I have had a few kernel updates and updates to the Omega ROM that could be the cause but I am not sure. Is there a setting where I can tell my phone what temps to throttle at?
Also, I assume all this is down to the Kernel and not the ROMs?
Would like some imput regards where to start my search to return my phone to its previous state as a pocket heater.
Many Thanks
Syl

Don't use it. Pegasusq is the only one really working for multi-core CPU's with hotplugging and so on.

1.8Ghz is not healthy for the CPU in the long run and will cause overheating which is exactly what you are currently seeing.
Especially since you keep the phone on 100% CPU power all the time (performance governor) which should drain battery like hell as a side effect.
Also, I assume all this is down to the Kernel and not the ROMs?

This is down to your settings. Neither rom nor kernel.
- Don't overclock (much)
-Use a good kernel such as Siyah
-Undervolt if the phone remains stable
-Use pegasusq Governor
-Enjoy

Hi buddy and thanks for your response.
I am not sure about what you said regarding it working correctly, it gets the best results for any benchmark compared to others so I would be interested in more detail about the specifics of how its not working correctly as I have never been told that. It would be appreciated.
I dont mind the battery drain although I do heed your warning about about longevity of the CPU.
I have been using Siyah Kernel for some time now and I find undervolting a little unstable, for now I am forced to use pegasusq.
Can you or anyone else answer the original question as I still wish to pursue this to a resolve other than not using it.
Many thanks for your time and efforts non the less!

it´s samsung´s based roms related: when the battery temp hits 41C the cpu will throttle. Nothing related with de cpu temp (can be at 80C before throttles).
try CM10.1 and you´ll see what im talking about.
We need a solution for this throttling with samsung based roms
