Issues sending SMS to Contacts - Ornate TrueSmart

I am able to place phone calls to people in my Contacts list. But when I try and send an SMS, the area code is never included after selecting a contact and I end up getting an invalid phone number error.
I have gone into all the settings screens I can think of and found nothing. Really odd...

I have heard of this problem before and I think that the solution was to try to use Hangouts for SMS or some other SMS app. In other words, I think the shipping SMS app is broken in the way you describe.
I am sorry if this turns out to be misleading. I have a problem using SMS on mine because the keyboard covers the entry box.

[Q] Is it possible to block outgoing sms?

I have a black list of contacts. I want block incoming and outgoing sms for this contacts. How block incoming sms I know, but how about outgoing sms?
Please, help me with this task.
Thanks a lot!
I don't see the problem with outgoing sms ??? Just don't text these people.
As for incoming sms have you tried applications like Call & SMS Filter or Call Blocker X?

It's not so easy
I want to block some contacts, so that my children never have written to them
I can think of 2 options quickly:
1. Don't let the kids use the phone
2. Buy them their own phone
I suppose an application could be created to do what you want. Or maybe something like adding a password to certain entires in you Contacts.
I'm actually finishing-up an app that functions as a SMS spam blocker; maybe my next app will be adding a password function to Contacts.
Just checked android default sms app and sms content provider source code, it looks like it's not possible to intercept and cancel outgoing message. It's a pity that we're not able to add this functionality to our future parental control app.
I'm not overly impressed with whomever coded the SMS and Contacts databases and have given considerable thought to writing my own. I found this out when writing my SpamText blocker which I kind of put on the back-burner due to fear of deleting ALL text messages from someone's phone. That whole "thread_id" is scary, at least to me.
I like the "conversations" feature of SMS, but it really should be broken-down by day or make any text in the conversation deleteable. I might get 10 texts from one person in a day, but just might want to save 4 of them because they have some valuable information.
Then there is a security issue with coding this type of application; Android gives the developer a lot of rope regarding messaging.
If your children are the one whos playing with your phone, why don't you use one of those pw locking apps? You can choose to lock whichever app you want with it.

I think the use case is just to allow children to sms and call to fixed numbers only.

You can't delete individual texts? What?
Nope, at least on my Droid X default SMS client. All distinct phone numbers and SMS messages are grouped together in a "conversation" no matter if that person texts 10 times in one day or 100 times over 6 months.
I know you can set a message limit, but I'm not sure what it does if you set it to 5 and get the 6th message from the same #; maybe someone else knows...
I have been searching for blocking outgoing test messages also but for a different reason.
I live near the border and allthough my phone is set to only my home network every now and than it switches to roaming and pretty often I send text messages by accident while roaming. Sometimes it switches networks while I am typing the message or it looses connection and I am at the mercy of which network it will connect and send the text message.
So an app that would block outgoing text messages while roaming (or maybe even only sending on home network) would come in very handy.
Why don't you just delete the contacts? Easiest solution

As far as I know there is no way of intercepting outgoing messages. very strange that we can do almost anything on a smartphone but have very limited control over basic operations like sending text message options.
Same goes for LED notification, should be standard on all phones. (2 of my biggest annoyances espcially as it concerns very basic phone operations)
Android system does not provide a way to block outgoing SMS.
The similar question was discussed on Android Developers hung out on
26-Apr-2012, and Android Developers stated clearly that it is not
possible.
One suggestion was to put the phone into Airplane mode at the time of
sent SMS intent, but again its unlikely to put the phone into
airplane mode pro-grammatically.
The similar issue has been already discussed on android-platform Group
as well.

want to block foreign sms's
I also have the above problem of my wife sending texts to foreign countries and getting charged. Usually she sends via fishtext which is affordable but every now and then if she is in a hurry or forgets to use the fishtext widget she sends via normal sms mode which costs a ton.
I cant believe there is no simple app to stop the user sending sms's.
Everyone has a 'cute' solution (like delete the contacts lol!) but they don't realise the difficulty of trying to manage another persons phone but one that you still have to pay the bills for e.g. kids or spouse.
Surely there must be an app out there that does this although I can currently find it!!!
Anyone??
There some app in android send sms without permission
It is always not easy when children are involved in any process They are so quick that sometimes it is difficult to notice that they have taken your phone and started pressing buttons. When you realize it, it is already late and the messages have been sent.
Why not get an app locker and lock the messaging app.
On a per contact basis, many apps have block features built in but not to block sms completely.

Some apps send messages without your consent.
And even some ROMs.
For example son phones (Xiaomi) with MIUI try to send an SMS to China to activate your SIM but they don't do it well, it doesn't work you spend money every time you reboot your phone.

SMS sending as email to phones on same account

My wife and I both grabbed new S2's on Sunday. Since then when text each other our messages often come through as emails, and the from number is often in a weird format. This is irregular, and I have found no solution. I have called and gone int he store, and neither avenue has given me any form of solution.
This only happens when my wife and I send each other messages. Messages are absolutely fine with everyone else.
Here is an example, I will create a new message to "Jessica" I will send the message. That message will likely show up on her phone in proper SMS format from me. She will reply, I usually receive that one fine as well. I then reply back, this time the message has switched into a strange email syntax type format. It will also show up as a new thread from my cell number @txt.att.net instead of from my cell number or contact name. Often instead of it coming through as the above example the number will change into a different number all together, 1410000021 which in no way resembles our actual numbers.
It doesn't matter if I initiate the conversation or it she does. We have cleared all message threads, history, and contact information attempting to flush out errors. We have tried other SMS apps, such as Handcent, still no luck. I have also tried a different SMSC number.
Any suggestions?
Try a factory reset?
Stock rom? Rooted?

we have not done a factory reset, we are new to android, if we did that would we lose all of our contacts, media, and installed apps?
They are both stock.

Do you have AT&T's new-ish (at least to me it is, had never heard of it till i got my SGS2) messages app, that incorporates all your phone calls, texts, voicemails into one app? It uses MMS to send you transcribed voicemail in a visual voicemail type layout. I haven't played with it myself, but my wife is using it (on her sgs2). I'm wondering if it could be a setting in there somewhere that is triggering duplicate messages?? My wife isn't getting duplicates, but just tossing it out there....
I don't believe we have the messaging app you mention. I am not sure though as we are new to Android so I am unable to know if this is the newish app. It does not have voice-mail included in it though. We have tried using both the stock app and Handcent, neither fix the solution. Also, its not duplicates we are receiving, we are only getting one copy of each message, they are just showing up as emails.

Change SMS reply to number?

Basically I'm trying to get my Wife/teens to stop using carrier text messaging without having to explain to them how to use two different applications to send texts.
Doesn’t have to be Google voice, really any app that will act as the default messaging app and when texts come in over the Verizon number and they reply to the text the recipient gets the “free” text number to respond to will work – Gvoice just seemed like the easy choice.
I've done quite a bit of research and cannot seem to find a clear answer so I'm hoping someone here had come across this. What I'm looking to do is change the reply-to number that gets sent to text message recipients from the default messaging app, Go SMS or Handcent SMS. What I do NOT want to do is have two separate text messaging apps. I want all texts to come from one application.
The idea here is to avoid paying Verizon text messaging charges and eventually block carrier text messaging altogether by using Google voice to send/receive all SMS.
Ideally this is how it would work - When a friend sends me a txt using my Verizon number I get a notification. I click reply and then press send and one of two things happens:
1. Instead of sending the text over Verizon’s network the text automatically sends it through Google voice and my friend sees my Google voice number and replies to it, essentially encouraging them to use the new phone number but seamless from my perspective.
2. Another alternative is to send the text message over Verizon’s SMS network but have the reply-to number be my Google voice number so when they reply it will go through Google voice.
While #1 will more quickly reduce the number of text messages sent through the carrier network what's most important is I'm using the same app for all texting.
I don't mind purchasing an app that can do this either.
I using a rooted Galaxy Nexus if that helps.
no app can do what u want sorry

Contact name not showing up

I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem or if a solution has been mentioned somewhere.
Basically when I receive a call, the contact name and information doesn't show up. Instead, it just displays the number. In the call logs, the names also don't show and I can only see numbers. I installed exdialer and everything shows as should be with names in the program, but the problem is when calls come in the display defaults to samsung's dialer so I still can't see who is calling.
I'm on a deodexed LF6 stock rom. Any help and / or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Which Contacts are displayed in the Contact list? Which contacts do are you choosing to display?? Do you have contacts on your SIM card??
I've chosen to display all contacts from all accounts. No contacts on sim but I've also checked to display that as well.

Double check you haven't doubled up on your contacts. I recently updated my uncles S2 to ICS, and he had this issue with only numbers being displayed. when i took a look further into it via the contacts menu, i found multiple entries for the one person. For some reason that was enough to confuse the phone and only display number only for calls and texts. Did you do a contact back up when switching to the custom rom, or anything contact related when switching? Even any kind of back up you made, when restoring, could have done this. But most times ive seen this issue, its due to have one too many of the same contact!
Have you tried choosing just one at a time??
thanks for both of your suggestions. It neither tips worked, so I deleted my google accounts and then reloaded and it worked.

That's why I never link any accounts with my Contacts. I only use contacts from the Phone itself.

Read Receipt

Has anyone else been having issues with messaging iphones requiring a read receipt request lately?
This didn't happen for the first few months. Recently been getting this pop-up every time I receive a message from iPhone users.
Is apple trying to get into RCS and it's causing issues?
Tried all the combinations of settings, chat, SMS, MMS, or otherwise within default SMS app settings. Checked settings on iPhone test phone (couldn't find a "request read receipt" setting), still happens. Group message or otherwise.
The only workaround I've found is using the chat bubble (or using G.messages) . However the read receipt pops back up if I ever open the thread in the default SMS app.
