I didn't look to see if there was one. A bit new to this. So far, I've gotten as far as unlocking the bootloader following your guide.

Open the zip in 7zip etc and pull out the boot.img and save in the firmware folder of flashtool
boot the phone into fastboot mode (hold the vol up key when connecting to PC while powered off)
hit the flash icon in flashtool and select fastboot
change to the correct dir and select boot.img
click open and it should flash a kernel with recovery
flash rom from recovery as instructed in OP

Well the good news is, it looks like it took a boot.img finally.
Bad news is that it's stuck on the google startup

Patiently Waiting...
It appears you might be the first confirmed ZU GPE owner to root??
Sitting back and watching it all unfold.
My ZU Gpe:
C6806, KOT49H.S2.2052, 4.4.2
I only want to root so i can install Xposed Framework... But I don't want anything about my stock ROM to be negatively affected.

No, there was a rus when they first cone out, and I think one or two even bricked them in the first few days trying to flash things or even raw write to the sd card with dd

Regardless, after a thorough search I have found no definitive answer to successful root of a GPe

Agreed, I haven't found ONE person either.
Except myself at this point.
I actually thought I bricked my device at one point. A-lot of trial and error. There needs to be a better thread for us GPE owners on how to root I will admit.
Took me 2 days (not literally but roughly between stopping for work, eat, ect...)
Where usually it would only take me 30 minutes to root a device.

was there anything wrong with the instruction I wrote? anything that needs changing? anything you would add?
I can write up those instructions again as a guide thread if nothing need adding.
Oh you don't need root to flash a ROM just unlocked BL and recovery

Nope yours are the one that helped cause the other "official" instructions were fairly worthless.

Bit rough locking the thread...
There should be nothing in there that could hard brick the GPe phone is there? I thought I've seen someone that has even flashed a ZU kernel to their GPe and the worst that happened was a boot failure. I'ts not as if you are flashing FTFs with different partition layouts, the .zip should be using named partitions - thus relativity safe?
Are you pulling the device tree from CM?
I just built a Carbon build for the GPe (CM device tree) and it boots and runs well except for MMS and incoming calls by the sounds from a tester.
Good luck getting it unlocked.
ps I cant test my or your GPe builds as I don't have one either.
pps See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644346&page=3 for CM11 and Carbon on the GPe, and maybe pm @CCJ22 and see if they want to test liquid

not got my xperia s yet but how do I make a backup of my firmware?
Open SEUS or PCC and then click "repair" firmware. It will reflash your device and download some files called "FILEXXXXXXXX" where the XXXXXXX is a number.
This files are in the folder /db/blobs/yyyyyyyy/ where yyyyyy is a number too.
Copy out the FILE_XXXXXX files to a backup folder. Now go into flashtool -> Advanced -> Decrypt .... Put into the files from your backup and Flashtool will create you a flashable version of your Rom
Regards

Strictly speaking you don't need every file in that folder. Sort it into size order, then pick the two biggest files - they should be the ones at the top. One about 160MB and one about 15MB or something. Those are the only two you need to build your bundle.
Will this work if I already re-locked my bootloader? Or do I then have to wait for OTA?
How can i make .ftf files?
i don't have loader.sin after decrypt.
I've downloaded the files from PCC and moved the 3 File XXX files to a new directory but as said above after making a tft i cant flash it because there isnt a loader.sin is it possible you attach the one you are using so that we can use that one?

Once you did all the steps look in the folder \Flashtool\firmwares there will be your firmware you created (FTF File) from the files with loader.sin.
Worked for me look at the attached screenshot.
Correct me if i am wrong, this is my first Sony phone i flash, allways had Motorola.
allready found what's the cause, when you create a bundle you need to choose a device but the xperia s aint on the list, so i choose cancel,, it creates a bundle but without loader.sin, when i chose the arc s it adds loader.sin to the bundle

Yeah thats also a very very important step. I was searching for that for a long time also the first time ;-) You also have to select that when connecting your device to the flashtool for the first time. (not in flashmode and enable USB debugging) then also select Xperia Arc S.
Yeah, altho wont be long before flashtool will be updated with the s included but at least i found out perhaps others can learn from my quest
i have pushed the correct loader to FlashTool repo...
it will be included in next release...
if u want to download it u can find it here:
https://github.com/Androxyde/Flashtool/raw/master/devicesConfig/LT26/loader.sin

I'm sure it has something to do with the partition_image.sin, but the UK version posted here doesnt have it. I've checked the tft's posted here and none contain the partition-image, so i removed it from the tft i've made and flashed it and so far no problems, it reboots fine and i need to choose the settings again so it seems fine, ill post it tonight for ppl in holland (after some testing)

I turned debugging on but it gives the same error but the file aint necessary so far i know i've tried the tft file and it works fine without. went from branded, to uk and back to branded no problems!
remove the partition-image from the ftf . it is not flashed well by flashtool at the moment, but it is completely not needed to flash!
Regards
Indeed,
i´ll make a post with the link in it for dutch users as a backup or make a thread where we make a list of those files, i can host them that´s not really a problem

When flashing did you get any errors? And if it wont turn on start with holding volume up and power for 10 seconds thats the same effect as a battery pull

This ftf file that you used, included only kernel and baseband, that's why you didn't notice any difference. You need a full firmware, you can find .42 firmware from my tutorial, link in the signature.

actually if he only flashes kernel, he should be able to root right,?
since the kernel was changed by sony and root was not acquirable(i had read somewhere)
Yes i checked unknown sources... Maybe i need to unlock the bootloader first. Is there an easy way to unlock bootloader? Because i read it and i didn't understand well
I also noticed that when i click help>check drivers in flashtool, it gives this:
28/042/2012 10:42:14 - INFO - List of ADB devices :
28/042/2012 10:42:14 - INFO - - none
28/042/2012 10:42:14 - INFO - List of fastboot devices :
28/042/2012 10:42:14 - INFO - - none
Is it a problem? I have android sdk tools and google driver package installed.

Yes I did! But Flashloader doesn't work! I dont know why... I do all but the last thing flashloader says is only "28/005/2012 14:05:45 - INFO - Selected ST15i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Kernel+Baseband.ftf"
and after nothing happens
Did you install the flashtool drivers in flashtool/drivers?
Do you have SE PC companion?
Here's a guide on how to install ADB drivers:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
It's obvious really, but when you click flashmode in flashtool and the firmware selection windoew comes up, don't change anything.
adsp.sin has to be selected under firmware content. I say this because I've seen some people change that. The result would be obvious

yes it is more than 200 mb. I tried to unlock my bootloader today, But i didn't get any message in that procedure. How can i check if i succesfully unlocked or not?
I will say it again.
You need to use a proper ftf file to flash the whole firmware.
Install it exactly the same way as earlier.
Bootloader doesn't have to be unlocked for this.

I think i have a problem with my computer or that flash tool software...
This is what i do:
I click flash icon
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I select flashmode
I select full ftf file. But at the right side there is nothing... I click ok
And this is the only result which i get everytime. After i connect my device in flash mode, still nothing is happening...
Seems like downloading issue to me. Tried redownloading?
Yes probably, i am downloading again. Or i will try on another computer, thanks to all for your replies =)
Finally I found the reason. I changed Windows' language and region options to English and USA, and problem is solved. This is why flashtool didn't work on my pc.

Hello,
I tried rooting my phone with the instructions you've provided. They all goes well! But after the last step I start my phone it has all software that are included in the full Kernel... But Superuser app is missing and I cannot open any application that requires root access, they all say Device is not rooted. Any idea what could be going wrong?
*Cheers

Link2SD
Hello,
Does anyone here use Link2SD with their rooted xperia pro's (rooted with this guide
and with this built)? I'm asking because I have this phone and obviously followed
the above guide which worked perfectly btw but I'm getting weird problems with
Link2SD and I wondered if it might be a consequence of the kerneltrick applied here?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Usui218
Hey, if you already had a rooted phone with another kernel version, do you have to do all the rooting procedure again, or do you simply flash the new kernel?
Thanks

have you tried to flash to the stock rom ics?
if not you should try to flash to stock ics rom, then flash the kernel to install JB JB ROM. of course, make sure the first is successfully flashing the ICS ROM

I will try my best to help you.
The first is done you download ics stock rom ftf file, you can download here
The second did the flashing stock rom ftf the use, and make sure the flashing process smoothly without error.
third when you have successfully installed the stock ics rom, you can flash the kernel specifically for JB ROM. you can get here. do the flashing using fastboot via flashtool. (I suggest using the last kernel update)
fourth, after successfully flash the kernel JB of course now you have cwm installed from the kernel. JB did flash rom through cwm. You can get JB rom file here
thanks to etch04 for kenel and kontini for JB ROM XU
hopefully can help you :good: sorry for my bad english

If yes, should such an error will not appear earlier.
Maybe it helps you flash ICS kernel first. ics kernel you can download here
did flashing the kernel, then you try try again flash the ics rom.
or maybe if you want to use JB ROM, you can use the ROM of Pandemic, at this link
I have been using this ROM, pretty good.

Root E2306 M4 aqua Guide

So I've been working on trying to get my phone rooted for a while and finally got it working after a few threads and trial and error so i thought i'd share my findings.
So to root your E2306 (Xperia m4 aqua) you will need:
Stock rom: https://userscloud.com/vaqpt1y0xdnu
Rootkit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/edse0h6b02odzn1/rootkitXperia_E23xx.zip?dl=0
Adb: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0MKgCbUM0itNVB1elljU2NPR0k
Flashtool: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
And Finally Twrp installer (If you want a custom bootloader): https://www.dropbox.com/s/yomdwq3p2le9hvi/M4Aqua-lockedTWRP-0.1-installer.zip?dl=0
1. Go download all of the items listed.
2. Install ADB using Installer.
3. Install Flashtool.
4. Run flashtool and click devices then check drivers and make sure your phone shows up.
5. You will need to install phone drivers using flashtool, go to C:\Flashtool\drivers and run Flashtool-drivers.exe
6. Check "Flashmode Drivers" and "Fastboot Drivers" then click install. If a red warning or something shows up saying drivers not safe click install anyway.
7. Now check drivers again and your device should show up.
8. Next copy E2306_26.1.A.1.112_Latin America Generic[WwW.SonyROMS.iR].FTF to C:\Users\(YourUsername)\.flashTool\firmwares
9. Now go to flashtool and click the lightning strike called "Flash Device".
10. Chose "Flashmode" and click "OK".
11. Setup as shown and click flash.

}
(APPS_LOG and USERDATA)
12. The log will say preparing files for a bit then a window will open up saying to turn off device and plug it back in. Turn off your phone then hold the volume down while plugging the micro usb back in.
13. The LED will go green showing that its in flashmode, the device should then flash the new rom.
14. Once done disconnect usb and reboot, the boot may take a while 5-10 min.
15. Once booted go to Settings -> About Phone -> then click the build number until you unlock developer mode.
16. Go into developer options and enable "USB Debugging".
17. Plug the phone back in and extract "rootkitXperia_E23xx".
18. Now Copy "files", "src" and "install.bat" into C:\adb.
19. Run install.bat as normal (Not admin) and a box will pop up on your phone asking to trust pc. Do trust pc and let the install.bat continue.
20. The install will say invalid socket, rebooting to avoid crash. Let the phone reboot while staying connected to pc.
21. The phone should boot and the install will finish.
22. You should now have root.
Guide for Custom Recovery (DO ROOT FIRST)
1. Remove "files", "src" and "install.bat" from the ADB folder.
2. Copy the "files", "src" and "install.bat from "M4Aqua-lockedTWRP-0.1-installer" into C:\adb
3. Run install.bat and it will ask for root on phone, grant it root and it should install.
4. To boot into recovery shut down phone and power it on. The phone will show a blue LED at the sony logo. Click volume down and it will show a Purple LED and boot into TWRP.
Warning: DO NOT REBOOT INTO RECOVERY USING "Reboot into recovery/ Reboot Recovery" IT DON'T WORK.

The root disables updates. If you update it removes root.

But I downgraded from E2363 to E2333 can't I get back???
Those are two different models of phone. If you are rooting a E2363 then you need a Rom for that. Check your about phone. Does it say what model you have?
I used to have E2363 but I downgraded to E2333 and rooted using roottoolkit
That's the actual phone model? There's a piece of paper in the sdcard spot. Pull it out and look for the model number there.
the image is not showing in the tutorial
Thanks mate!
Everyone who has another type of M4 Aqua can do this too!
Just use an old firmware for your device (in my case E2303).
I used 26.A.2.128 and followed every step.
Thanks @boho555 !!! :good:

Try this firmware https://userscloud.com/p4m0v8k4czmf
Also "ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device" this means you don't have the drivers installed. Check C:\Flashtool\drivers and run flashtool drivers.exe
Then choose "Flashmode" and "Fastboot" drivers then install.

Alright, the firmware your downloading is the only one that will work for your device. However that error seems driver related. Try installing drivers off your phone. (Settings->XperiaConectivity->UsbSettings then switch on "Install software". Then plug the phone in and check the notification bar for a notification to install software.)
Firmware link?
I've been tring to get this to work on my E2306 with no joy for several days now. I'm getting bootloops after flashing the firmware from original post.
I have also downloaded it from two other sources and would always get to the same result.
By the way, it would show in Flashtool when you select the file as being buit for the D2306 (not E2306) !!
So would anyone have another link for the firmware *A.1.112 for E2306 ???
