LED indicator - AOKP Q&A

Hi there,
I just installed AOKP on my GNex, it feels really great.
As I tried many different roms, theres only one essential thing I miss:
How to change the LED indicator for different apps, or e.g. for a missed call?
I found no setting for this..
AOKP 4.2.2 nightly, GNex

While we had this in the previous releases, we are currently completely rewriting it.

[Q] Best AOSP ROM So Far?

Hey guys,
I noticed a flux of several AOSP ROMS that came out, and I think i'm in need of a new flash. What, in your opinions, ROM is the most stable and the fastest so far? Some of em are AOKP, Cyanogenmod 10, Kang 4.1.2, etc... Thanks!
I'm having mixed results, I have yet to try AOKP but CM10 Official is still in its infancy and has several bugs that need to be worked out before it can be a solid daily runner. My favorite is Kang 4.1.2 so far, it is somewhat stable and SMS & contacts are themed dark, though it drains my battery faster than any other rom. Fourth Bar: Infusion has a great installer (aroma) with a bunch of options before install (lock screen, notification drawer selection, kernel, etc.) but after several flashes I couldn't get it to run smoothly. Many crashes, laggy screen transitions, etc. It also has white-themed contacts and SMS, which is a matter of personal preference but I don't like it. Your results may vary, however.
All of these roms are still in development and will get better.
My advice and likely the advice of others will be to try them all for yourself, you will have your own preferences of what works best for you versus other people and doing wipe/flashes is an easy process. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice! I guess i'll just stick with Sense for now until the roms get further developed.
Fourth Bar: Infusion is a good option. Its based off of sense, but has AOSP look. The only problem that i have ran into is signal bars dont work.
CM10.. for best battery life disable Maps in Apps..
Every rom is glitched in some way. I've been working and just dealing with the phone since I got it and quite honestly I am fed up with it. I had my hands on a S3, and while I love the Amaze, the S3 has big Dev team.
My advice, sell it, get yourself an S3.

Dark Glass One has proven to be the most stable for me. theres still a few bugs but it can definitely be used daily.

S3 and N4

So i'm moving to the US soon and I always wanted a N4 cause of the Android Vanilla but couldn't get one from my current country.
Right now I have an S3 which is cool and everything but I just freakin hate touchwiz roms and CM roms are still not completely functional so..... I know that on hardware perspective the N4 doesn't compare to the S3 but would like to hear some feedback cause the N5 could be near.
would you guys trade an S3 for a N4 if you had the chance?
Honestly, if you want the hardware power, but the vanilla android. Try out a launcher...
Also, define CM roms aren't fully functional?
They lack radio and have minor bugs here and there, but it's still worth it. Instead of downgrading (hardware-wise) to an N4.
Also there are AOSP roms... Never tried one though .
But no, would never trade S3 for N4.
And would recommend nobody to ever do it xP

actually I have tried PARANOID, CM, PACMAN, OMEGA, SLIMICS, etc. You name the ROM and I tried it but since most of them are CM based they all share the common bugs, for instance we had a camera problem (not sure if it's fixed already), also wifi tethering didn't quite work and I use that feature a lot to share internet to my GF, some weird issues with sounds. Never used radio so I don't really miss that feature.
Right now my phone is heavily customized with an Omega ROM, Apex Launcher, Jkay Framework so it actually looks like Android Vanilla, BUT it doesn't feel like it.
guess ill just wait for the N5 and keep my brain shut for now.
thanks
Dude, wow...
Never ever come across any-issues except camera related issues...
Try out SlimBean and do not judge it based on the starting DPI (adjust in interface -> General etc) as is starts out in Tablet mode XD..
Anyways, I've yet to come across any bugs (and wifi tethering works fine, camera too) etc.
(Week later reply, but yeah )

[Q] CM 10.2 Nightly

Quite new to the whole rom thing, pretty much always had my phone rooted for various reasons, but only recently started trying out roms, not a big fan of touchwiz, so i decided to try out the CM 10.2 nightlies, so far its been working just fine, then again i have only tried one and except for a few minor errors once in a while, its been working alright.
My questiion is tho, do i need to do a full wipe each time i install a new nightly release? my guess would be no, but i just wanna make 100% sure that im doing the right thing.
Second question, would anyone recommend something different? i tried out liquidsmooth before CM, overall loved it, but seems like its not supported anymore.
Thanks in advance!
1-no need to wipe
2-check in the dev area for Roms based on CM
If you're asking for different roms i definitely do not suggest aoso for the simple reason they drain much more battery and miss a lot of samsung based one features.
I hate touchwiz like you, but there are many alternatives: go launcher ex, next launcher 3d, nova or apex launcher and more. Personally i use honami launcher (xperia?) I found in a rom that got it off xda. So it should be easy to find, it's REALLY quick and responsive (and i do have MANY apps).
About roms for galaxy s3 i would divide them in 2 jelly bean (would you actually get ics?) Categories: 4.1.1<x<4.2.2 and all 4.2.2+ ones.
You can get any 4.2.2 just fine but for these there are different roms.
Omega is well known, i have also heard of wanamlite. There is chaos legacy for 4.2.2.
But the one i use is foxhound (you can find both flavours, but latest 2.7 version of 4.1.2 is pretty astonishingly unstable, which is unusual for the great goxhound. The 0.1 version of 4.2.2 is what i chose and it's perfectly stable) and believe them to be quick and drain much less battery than most.
On 4.2.2 you may NOT change kernel, i remind you, as none are supported.
For theming rember to use xposed framework and its many modules...

Knock on works 1000times better on AOSP

I wanted to let everyone know that I have used all the AOSP based roms we have on the verizon model except PA and can report that the knock on feature works flawless!
Here's the thing, I like this handset, it's great and all but one thing that would annoy me at times is when my phone is in certain positions the knock on would not work properly. I have recreated all those positions with the AOSP based roms and the screen never needed to be tapped more than twice to be turned on. Therefore I wanted to report, (since no one else has and I've seen many reports of issues with knock on being very inconsistent for people including myself) that knock works perfect on CM10.2, Vanir, Carbon, OSE, AICP, and I'm sure PA as well.
Thought some folks might want to know that

Well I can tell by your signature that you are on the international version and I'm on verizon and the roms I speak of are all on verizon. There may actually be 4.3 AOSP based roms out for your version as well but I don't know because I don't check that section of the forum
I think I did see something about CM10.2 being out for the D802 which is what you have. There might be others out though.
On verizon I have settled with carbon for now because it's running stable and is so professionally put together as far as how carbon settings is configured and arranged...it's brilliant. OSE, AICP, Vanir, and of course PA and CM are all great as well. The order in which I wrote them is how I personally rank them as well as far as my personal taste.
But whatever you do do not flash a verizon rom on your phone or you might hard brick it. At the very least the phone would be usable for the amount of bugs it would have if it would even boot. I doubt it would make it past the LG boot logo.
Ok perfect. I posted in wrong forum lol. I have a Canadian G2. AT&T works with mine. Thanks

No you aren't. The G2 only has one general section so you have threads for all 73 different models of G2's out there. The developement section is where you want to find whats out for your phone. You say att works so check that section.
While it hasn't worked flawlessly for me, I will say it has been working much better in CM10.2 than it was in CleanROM.
just curious, I wonder if AOSP/CM are using the sensor (top left side of G2) or conventional touchscreen kernel hack (like those modded kernels found in nexus devices)for the double tab.

get UDN lite and add another button on the navigation bar for sleep... problem solved, just one tap and it goes to sleep
Not really had any problems with knock on and off using stock. Misses once in a while if I knock too quickly, but definitely no complaints form me. Admittedly, getting it going 100% of the time would be a nice bonus though.

As the poster below you said, this is a half truth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvesNzvgKDQ
I noticed initially that I was getting more consistent knock on results using AOSP, but even here it isn't 100% of the time for me. I feel like on stock I had to knock closer to the bottom of the phone, but on CM I have to knock closer to the middle.
My device definitely has some sort of knock on hotspot, I'm just yet to find exactly where. At first I was getting it 100% on CM, but now it's closer to 90% of the time
Yeah it works better on cm than stock. Still not flawless though.
For screen off, I added a shortcut that appears when you swipe up from the navigation bar. I actually like it more than knock off.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
Knock Off is part of the launcher for the most part, just get Apex or Nova or some other launcher that supports gestures and set double tap to an app which locks/turns off the screen. I'm using "Screen off and Lock" with Apex Launcher on the stock rom and it works flawlessly. Although this won't help with it working in the notification bar. Of course this is until knock off is properly implemented.
Sorry to sound dumb, I'm getting my G2 on tuesday.
Does Knock on and Off work directly on CM. or is there an add-on you must add for it to work, if so, What is it?
Thanks
This is how i turn off my screen. System settings, Interface, Quick Launch Shortcuts, set it Screen off. You are good to go. Gl

Yeah... I am just waiting for them to get knock off to work, then I will probably go AOSP... for now, Malladus works very, very good!
My knock on is TOO sensitive! D800, with CM, and I can't hardly carry it in my pocket, it turns on, and if I don't notice it, it eventually unlocks, and I end up with 7 or 8 apps open by the time I notice it. I think cm is doing the knock on differently. Stock it needed the shock to the screen from the taps, and cm u just need to touch the screen. I can touch it twice as light as possible, and it will turn on... Who knows... haven't really read anyone else with the issue though.... thoughts?
A video of it working and Rom installed would be legit.

i use the lates cm 2910 and i miss the short led blinking when the screen is going on (like at stock rom).

Some basic ROM feedback + MODs suggestion (D802)

I have been jumping between a few ROMs for a period of time now and finally decided to stick with one which I think is stable, fast and gives the best battery life by far. I admit I haven't tried all of the ROMs out there, also people have different set ups and use their phone differently. So please take what I say as a recommendation only, and I mainly wish to share some of my experience as I know how frustrating it can be to choose a ROM out of so many choices. At the end I also want to share the MODs I have been using and how I have personalized my device, hopefully will help someone out there.
Note: I didn't use the same MOD for all ROMs! See more explanation below.
ROM
Just to make it clear, I wipe all before flashing a new ROM. I don't use any kind of backup software, yes that is right I don't, call me insane But the result of poor battery life or restart/FC should not be caused by these factors. I also install about the same app back (give a take a couple which I don't use often) after a flash. I also use the same set up for all my ROMs e.g. Auto brightness, screen on time and etc.
STOCK
I have been on stock LG G2 ROM for about 5 months I think, there are some nice features and I have to say it is probably the most stable ROM out there.
But for me, I experienced a bit of lag here and there.
I think many out there will agree with me, when I say the ROM doesn't have the best UI design. I would recommend installing Xposed Installer (xda) and G2 Xposed (play store) and make some modifications yourself.
The battery is ok, last a day for me and ends up with 30% on a good day (often below 15%).
The biggest feature for me is the knock code to unlock device, I do miss it.
I didn't compare but the Camera app is better than Google Camera (opinion, didn't test).
CloudyG3 v1.3
Used this ROM for about a month, stable enough for daily driver.
Some lags when using the phone in general. Animation slow down is the main reason I decided to go with another ROM.
UI looks much nicer than G2 since it is based on G3.
Can use G3 TweaksBox to tweak UI like you can with G2 Xposed, but most features will require you to pay. Which I did, but don't think it is worth the money. Most changes require you to reboot to see effect and it is buggy.
Again knock code is a plus, better than stock ROM I think.
Slightly better battery than Stock but not much better, I would say about the same. Been using the same MODs since.
Camera is also pretty good, on par with STOCK (opinion, didn't test).
Mahdi-ROM 09/20
This is a very popular recommendation, rated the most stable ROM. But it is the opposite for me, phone would restart and FC.
Some bugs listed on ROM page. This doesn't affect me, but may affect some of you.
Very similar to CM11, a lot of options to tweak, too much in my opinion.
Battery life about same as stock, again the ROM wasn't stable enough for me so can't possibly have amazing battery life. Same MODs as I have now.
No knock code.
ParanoidAndroid 06/28
This is my current ROM, glad I decided to try it.
Very stable, haven't had a single FC or restart yet and I have been on it for weeks.
This is the fastest ROM, I don't notice any animation slow down at all. Ok a few times with the keyboard I am using but pretty sure it is the keyboard app.
Amazing battery life. e.g. 10 hours since unplugged, 2 hour screen on, 76% left.
Has double tab to wake, but no Knock code
Good amount of built-in customization
MODs + app suggestions
Twilight app (or something similar), for less harsh light on the eye when reading at night.
Google Now Launcher + Xposed GEL Settings, I like the Google Now being included in the launcher itself.
LiOn Tamer (AKA Unbounded) to stop wake-locks, just install and then done no set up require.
Silence app, which turns phone silent for those who work at from 9am - 5pm.
Calendar + Calendar Mute app which turn phone silent for those who are at University with odd lecture times.

Unfortunately I haven't tried all the ROMs, so can't give you any suggestion on them.
As for custom kernels and ART, I have been using whatever comes with the ROMs. The result on PA is so good (7.5 hours screen on time with 22% battery left), I never found myself in the situation of needing to tweak anything. Kernel is generally my last choice, because it is a lot of trial and error. The last I tried ART was when it was still in beta, I should really give it a go now it is more stable.
Can you provide a link to the 26/8 PA rom? Can't seem to find it in the PA thread cos there are only other dated roms. Sorry for being a noob cos I've never flashed aosp on my g2. Or which release did you use or would recommend?
Dont you miss the Qslide apps on stock roms? or the Qremote? (I use it all the time)
and thanks for sharing the expirience... I myself decided only to root the phone in the case that it won't be getting Android 5.0

When I first switched to AOSP roms I missed them a lot. Fortunately there is a mod for the quick remote but none for Qslide. Either way you'll find yourself not needing Qslide after some time.

I tried Qslide on stock, then never used it again. For me spliting the screen in half means i can't see much of anything. I think it might be useful when you get used to it, but I never really got used to it.

Nice write up! I used Mahdi, PA and CloudyG3 and agree with your comments. I'm currently running cloudyg3 and would like to add a few notes to those who are interested. Disabling all the animations does speed things up for me and the dev made the G3 Tweakbox features all free. PA is my second favorite ROM, super smooth and stable. If camera was better on PA, it would be my daily driver.

I'm really interested in trying the G3 rom. I've been using stock on this phone since I got it and I really love the built in features and stability. I've come from a long line of Nexus ownership and have a Nexus 7 2013 for AOSP support + latest updates.
I was really worried about the stability of the G3 port but feel a little more confident reading your review compared to other roms. Paranoid Android was always fun too, I just never tried it on my G2.

Yeah G3 Rom are very stable only some hiccups when you have too many apps open, apart from that everything is pretty good. Camera is normally the main selling point for most
Also I think going from stock -> G3 ROMs -> AOSP is a pretty good way going about it.
