Hi,
I'm trying to extend my battery life. I read fast dormancy can extend my battery life significantly, but it depends on my device and mobile network provider.
Should i remove it? any one has tried it and can give me some feedback?

Create your own thread. it is a compkletely different problem. also, it has been answered in cm10.1's thread. in the last few pages, i think @palmbeach05 has covered this and other issues.
As for OP: AFAIK, fastdormancy comes preinstalled, depends upon your carrier and it automatically start to work whenever it detects your carrier supports it. but in my experience, i got better results removing it than wit it enablesd maybe due to the alpha nature of the kernel

All kernels nowadays are 3.1.10. This is, has been, and will be until officially upgraded, an Alpha stage kernel. This means that there are major bugs present. Are there kernels out there that are stable enough at this stage? Yes. Most are within the individual ROM threads, others are in krystian's dropbox.
There are 2 versions of ICS that are popular amongst A4G users, AtrICS v 2.0 and CM9. Which one are you trying to use?

ALWAYS make a backup prior to any test modifications. That way if removing fastdormancy makes things worse for you, you have something to fall back on without having to go through the hassle of reflashing the entire ROM.

I used it for a while, then I got back to AtrICS. As @palmbeach05 said, always do a nandroid backup before messing with anything system related.

Ok and you're experiencing a problem everyone has had or still has. Stop complaining or start developing a fix. Can't develop? Don't complain. Simple as that. Besides that, I mentioned it before, but I will reiterate the point again. THE 3.1.10 KERNEL IS AN ALPHA STAGE KERNEL. ALL ROMS RUNNING A 3.1.10 KERNEL BECOME ALPHA STAGE ROMS AS WELL. ALL LOWER REVISION KERNELS ON ANY 4.0 AND UP ROM WILL PROVIDE ISSUES AS WELL. This is pretty much a deal with what we, the devs of xda, can provide to you and other users, or move onto a new ROM or a new device.

[Q] Change to a diff. ROM

Hello Everyone
This is a simple question for many of you, but not for me, I already know how to Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
(thanks to CF-Root)
and how to install a Rom. But,what about how to change to a different ROM.
Now I'm using
Base band - I9100UMKK1
Kernel - [email protected] #20
Build - VillainROM 3.0
(I'm using this one, cuz I found a very descriptive tuto about this, for my GS2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
But What if I want to change my ROM, What are the main points to check the compatibility with my device
PDA?
Base band?
It is neccessary change the Kernel?
I would like to taste the flavor of ICS
Note: I don't want to be annoying, including all my phone data, but as a new android user, is my reference for search info.
Heya Mate,
I just posted pretty much the same question, however, after skipping 1 thread repeatedly because it was labelled SGS2 Bell/Virgin Canadian Thread Q&A (Root/Unlock/Firmware) Modems/Mods I found more info in there than I have by searching!

I wouldnt go for the ICS roms yet, there unstable and can cause problems with your phone if you dont know what you are doing.
Kernel/Rom version should match if you are using stock roms, otherwise custom roms will normally come with a recommended kernel.
As far as the baseband, you can mix/match, so just find one that works for you, or leave it as it is if its working fine, you dont need to match the version to your rom or kernel.
To flash a new rom, find one you like and follow the howto in the thread, but it will be very much like flashing villanrom.
Make sure to take backups using nandroid (to go back to an old rom) and titanium (user apps) sms backup+ (app i recommend to backup sms/call log/mms) as you will need to wipe data (thats user apps/sms/contacts not media/photos/etc) when you move from rom to rom.

Try the KI3 version, the VRtheme (aka Universal) version was a bit new at that point.
Unfortunately due to framework changes the newer versions dont run on VR.

[Q] Glitch kernel with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5?

I put the TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom on my Fascinate, and then installed the Glitch v1.4 beta 5 kernel. Found that my 3G no longer would connect. I looked through the dev thread, and in post #5 saw, "Signal won't work, this kernel is GSM, your fascinate is CDMA" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459530&highlight=glitch+v14)
That sounds pretty definitive that you can't use this Glitch kernel with the Fascinate, yet I could have sworn I've read about others using it. Am I misunderstanding something here?

im running glitch v14 b5 on ths 6.5 with no issues.
Humph. That certainly makes sense, given that the Glitch thread is in the Fascinate forums...but why did someone say there's a CDMA vs GSM problem?
Lemme try reinstalling it, after first doing another Nandroid backup.
Is the kernel that comes with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom available, so that I don't have to fuss with Nandroid if I need to revert from Glitch?
just reflash the rom but dont wipe data.
Nope...got the same result. No 3G access.
Anything else I can try?

Groan...I'll have to put off starting over for a bit; I don't have time right now to set up everything again. And I'm a bit worried about "reactivate your current device" since, per my other thread, I'm unable to get a dial pad when calling *228.
the problem is you flashed the glitch b4 for 6.0 instead of the b4 6.1 version. If you read my guide it clearly states which version to flash. Also that link you posted is for the TELUS Fascinate NOT the Verizon Fascinate...
Well, I flashed with the b5 for 6.1 version, and while the 3G worked, I ended up with the unable-to-Nandroid-backup bug. Since the only remedy I could find (clear the cache and Dalvik) didn't help, I've gone back to the kernel that came with TeamHackSung ICS. I'll keep an eye posted to see if future Glitch versions manage to fix the backup bug. Thanks for all the help.

S'pose that's a workaround, although it makes the noob in me a bit nervous to keep flashing part of the OS like that.
Plus, despite having read the feature list, I'm still not clear just what switching to Glitch does for me.

Glitch gives you the ability to overclock up to 1500mhz... also in call audio is clear and alot more crisp than the stock kernel...the bug where you have to always adjust the volume down on every call is fixed aswell. I also like the glitch recovery alot better...you can wipe cache and dalvik at the same time.

Yes, thanks, someone told me that on another thread. To summarize:
To activate phone or update roaming without a keypad:
*22890 ---> This will program/activate your phone.
*22891 ---> This will update your roaming capabilities.
No need to hit other buttons after dialing. Let it finish, and reboot your phone.
You can also try dialing star 228 and then hit the menu button and add 8 or 10 2-second pause to it... It will look like this: *228,,,,,,,,,1
Hey guys, do you need the gingerbread boot loader before going to glitch? I can't find them in the vanilla ROM post.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Here ya go.
You don't really "need" the bootloaders before flashing glitch, but you should definitely have them to minimize any issues. Also, if you like BLN, I would flash B4 as opposed to B5, it's not working quite right on the latest beta.

What would you want to dual boot? I know there are other devices out there that dual boot, but the reason being is so they can run android. And we are obviously already on android. I don't think you'll find anyone who is going to port over WP7 or WebOS to our phones. That would be a lot of work and our devs are already busy with getting JB stable

With dual boot, wouldn't you be able to run ICS and JB for example? It would be useful to try the new JB ROMs without losing the stability of the previous ROM you were using, and without the need to nandroid everytime.

The thing is.. there is no unstability in JB Roms. Not even the first build FE put out was unstable. Sure, some things did not work, but now mostly everything works. GPS/911 has been hit or miss on anything but Froyo.
Everything else pretty much just works as it did in ICS.
I don't see a purpose in having dual boot, the ONLY reason I would see it is if I wanted to switch between ROMS just to try each one out, which is already possible through nandroid.

[Q] AOKP 4.2.1 update breaks Wifi Tether

I am unable to post to the [Rom] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.1) | Task650 (1/22/13) (2nd Release!) thread due to being a noobie
So I am posting here hoping someone knowledgeable can clarify if this is a known issue or unique to me.
My device: i777 on T-Mobile. Previously on Task 650's AOKP 4.1.2 now on AOKP 4.2.1.
I like everything about this ROM. However, I noticed that I can no longer use my phone's Wifi-Tethering capabilities. I researched here and googled crazy and have not been able to find anything conclusive on this being a new issue/bug or an established issue.
I came across numerous posts where people seemed to loose their tethering capability with JB upgrades. In particular with the 4.2.1 upgrade. I even saw this in google's android bug reporting forums as well. Some claimed that this capability was removed as Google worked it out with the carriers. Yet many seem to be able to tether without any problems.
Hoping some one with good knowledge of this ROM can clarify if this is a ROM issue or somehow connected to my device. If it is my device appreciate suggestions on what I could do? I tried third party apps. They do not work as well.
Thanks for you time.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I rebooted, reflashed, data wipe +flash, everything that I could think of and what were suggested for some generic issues with no such luck. Do not know if revising any APN settings will do any good.
I also found the following as a solution to this problem in a galaxy nexus thread for the same problem. Do not know if it applies to i777. Any advice will be highly appreciated.
"1. use apktool to de-compile framework-res.apk
2. navigate to res/values/arrays.xml
3. open arrays.xml in a notepad editor
4. edit the line "config_tether_upstream_types" change the 4 to a 5
5. save changes and re-compile framework-res.apk
from there you will be able to tether"
i have the same issue since updating from tasks december ROM to his January 4.2.1 & now 4.2.2 (3-13-2013) ROM
i dont use it often, but want it to actually work when i go to use it.
i set it up, checked the portable wi-fi hotspot box to turn it on and the text right below it says Turning hotspot on... but never actually does anything. on the december release it started working within a few seconds.
i used root explorer to look at framework-res.apk (as mentioned above) but there is no "values" folder in the "res" folder so i cant find arrays.xml

That's actually true of any ROM thread, not just Tasks. If you alter the ROM in any way (replacing the kernel, etc), don't expect the developer to help if you encounter any problems... you're on your own, to a degree.

^This! If users run into an issue with a different kernel than the one that was packaged then the support one would get would be to re flash and keep the packaged kernel. Each developer chooses their kernel for a reason

[Q] Help Flashing Cyanogenmod on DNA?????

Firstly, is this even possible to do with all features fully functional? Because Cyanogenmod doesn't yet have an official release for the DNA. And if it is, can anyone help guide me in the right direction? For the record, I have flashed Cyanogenmod on some older devices like the A855 and the Droid Eris, but from some limited research I can tell that things have changed a lot since then and I've yet to come across a thread that makes any sense to me.

Huh? There's a Cyanogenmod thread in the "Original Development" forum. You flash it just like any other ROM. Is this what you're asking?

Look in the original development section to download CM and it has the instructions too.

This isn't stable though. I mean it's Cyanogenmod but it's a nightly. Why after 2 years isn't there an stable release? I mean there's no telling what doesn't work with this (camera, mms, etc).

Yes, but it's a nightly. And Idk if you ever flashed any of the older phones but you didn't have to unlock the bootloader or turn S-Off or any of that, and frankly, I'm a little lost on all that

Read the thread, it will tell you what's not working. To save you time the only problem is occasional skipping when streaming music via Bluetooth. Camera, GPS, WiFi, messaging, etc all work.
You should look at the first two pages of the thread and it then the last five pages to see what's going on since it's such a long thread. If you have anymore questions about it then ask in that thread. Just because it's not an official stable release doesn't mean it's unstable, especially when the only problem is Bluetooth skipping, which not everyone is experiencing.
Try it.

2 years? You time traveled back to Nov 16, 2013 bud, this phone will be one year old in 5 days.source. We got official CM support AFTER the last stable CM release was built. But the nightlies are stable enough, literally one issue (discussed in an earlier post, BT audio skips)

I've been using a nightly for the past 2 weeks. I have no issues that I've noticed. No issues with flashing either, booted right up.

s-off is very simple if you are on the latest firmware no worries moonshine s-off is a painless process and it only takes a few minutes
unlocking the bootloader lets you run custom recovery <<< the A855 was already unlocked thats why you didnt need to its also my backup device
s-off lets you flash radios <<<< great to test out for better signal also letting you just flash one package instead boot.img here modules here rom here. if you need help just ask i dont mind willing to help anytime
