[Q] One Max or new 2014 M8? - HTC One Max

I just bought and received the One Max yesterday. The night before It came in the mail, I noticed the 2014 M8 is coming out next week. My big dilemma is should I keep the Max or send it back and get the M8 since I have the 14 day return policy? The screen size of the Max is great and all, but the new M8 is going to be a nice middle ground between the One and the Max. Next is the upgraded internals of the M8 will be updated, but do you think it will be that much of a difference? And last is price. I just paid $200 with a 2 year Verizon contract and would hate for the price to drop next week when the M8 comes out and the M8 end up at or around the same price I just paid for an"older" device. Ideas?

It's not next week for vzw lol. Just a small international cell company. I don't think vzw has a release date yet.
Remember how the first HTC one went?

Get dat M8!! Much better hardware and software!

I read in one of the release date articles that Verizon and HTC were aware of the mistake they made with the HTC One, and wouldn't make the same mistake. Also, leaks of the M8 with the Verizon logo on it makes people think it will release close to the 25th release date. It's a gamble but if I miss the 14 day return policy then I'm stuck with the max for 2 years. For all you Max owners, is the max going to be up to par for another 2 years in regards to hardware?

We are due to get kit kat anytime now... Verizon is bloating up the rom with garbage as we speak.
The HTC ONE.. ONE MAX.. AND ALL NEW ONE(M8) will receive updates for 2 years.

Verizon is getting it March 25th. Exclusive carrier for launch instore, also the aws band is active on the m8. The speeds were ridiculous

This is the same question that seems to be posted in every phone's forums... "Should I get the newer version of this phone"? ... Well of course you should! It's usually better... ?

AT&T HTC One X+ at Amazon for $139.99 Today (4 Dec 2012)

Anyone else notice this? I've been watching pretty closely, and it looks like it went from $199.99 to $139.99 today. It may have gone from back ordered to in stock, too.
http://wireless.amazon.com/HTC-One-4G-Android-Phone/dp/B00A7DM0D0/ref=sh_br_ph_1
Personally, I might just have to pull the trigger now. I'm using an Atrix I bought back in May 2011; I had thought that I would have to wait until May 2013, but about a month ago, my availability said I was eligible starting Xmas Eve this year. That was going to be fine, I'd wait that long and buy it in person at an AT&T store, since everyone was offering it at $199. But today, in addition to the price drop at Amazon, I am suddenly eligible to upgrade right now (I checked via Amazon and with AT&T's site directly). AT&T's web site has the phone listed for me to upgrade at $299 with a magic instant $100 rebate, putting it at $199.

You know that the J Butterfly is the Droid DNA on Verizon right? And is unlikely to come to AT&T?
It might come to t-mobile as Nexus 5 hopfully..
I apologize to everyone for accidentally posting this in the HTC J Butterfly Idle Speculation forum. If a mod could move it for me...

VZW to carry the HTC One. Impact to DNA?

If this is to be believed, VZW is going to carry the One along with the rest of the U.S. carriers. That's fantastic news for HTC as they've accomplished (selling the same device on all four U.S. carriers) what Samsung did with the SGS3 which was one of the cornerstones of its success. And HTC really needs some success. It also explains the appearance and disappearance of a red version of the One off of HTC's website.
"It looks like HTC’s One really will be the one flagship for the Taiwanese phone maker. When HTC announced the phone last month, it said the One would be sold at AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. A mention of Verizon was noticeably absent. However, Verizon will also carry the high-end Android device according to a source familiar with the situation. Its launch at Verizon, though, will trail the other U.S. carriers by a month or two as it winds its way through the testing process. HTC and Verizon representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment."http://allthingsd.com/20130313/exclusive-htc-one-headed-to-verizon-too/
So do you think it'll be offered alongside the DNA or are the two devices too similar?
Even though I went from a DNA to a Note 2 and now back to a DNA, I will be buying the One the very minute it is available for Verizon. How's that for impact?
or just do this http://blog.htc.com/2013/03/htc-one-developer-edition/
If it does come to verizon and if I can sell my DNA on ebay for $600 then yes I may get it. If not then no
I have a feeling the resale value of the DNA might plummet when the One hits. Not saying the DNA isn't an amazing phone, but if you have to pick one of the two at similar prices... The only thing I can think of that would really retain the DNA's resale value would be if yours is already unlocked / rooted / s-off. Considering the post-OTA (and all new) phones cannot achieve this yet, I think it'll be a surge to the price for phone that already are unlocked.

Well you aren't getting a One then. The DNA isn't selling near $600, even right now. On Swappa and eBay, almost all of them are sub $500, some even below $450.

With my ebay skills 80% will sell $600.
20% it wont if my skills fail.
Also who knows what the outright price for the one will be if it does come to VZW.
It has very little impact to me as I love my DNA.
Sure people complain of battery life but I get a full day out of mine usually, they complain about only having 16 GB of internal memory but I use Spotify for my music and Drive for my pictures and most places I frequent have wifi. My 8MP camera takes lovely pictures and I already have a quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM. Speaker mode on the DNA is fabulous.
Also, I love having a pocketable 5 inch 1080p device.
Fyi I got a DNA that was used for a week off Craigslist for 425 with two cases and wireless charger...so remember that eBay will take fees from the seller...I just sold an iPhone 5 on eBay for 560 and eBay took 50 bucks just for the damn sale..and then PayPal takes 2% or something too...so yeah.

That phone will work in the U.S.data wise on Verizon in an LTE area (at this point NJ is almost fully blanketed where I live)....who uses their phone to talk anyway? LOL
And once Verizon implements VOLTE, you could in theory use that phone on Verizon here. So if this was 2014 that phone would be perfect!

if you could sell it for $600 now, that would be pretty amazing....let alone a few months from now with another big HTC device about to launch (or having launched already)
you would need to probably package a ton of accessories with it to come near that

depends on if they carry multiple storage versions...iirc there are 16/32/64 variants (though i actually havent seen a 64gb variant for sale) for the htc one
so it *might* be something like 599/699/749 or some variation in there off contract
on contract would probabaly be 199/299 of 16/32 which is what id assume verizon would carry (just a guess)
and dna would probably drop to 149 or 99 on contract directly from verizon....probably 49 or free on 3rd party websites

Same here. I had to list it 3 times too before the buyer actually came up with the money.
On thing to remember if your going to sell ANY phone your not going to make a profit. It just makes getting a new phone a little better.
I will be getting the One I have two upgrades available in October so I should be able to get it in September. I hope thats when its released. The developer edition I think is BS pretty sure guys here on XDA will be able to crack the One without me paying extra.
I found a link that compares DNA to One camera check it out http://pocketnow.com/2013/03/13/htc-one-camera-vs-droid-dna-camera#!prettyPhoto
I'm actually happy with my DNA (understatement) and since Sense 5 will be sent to the DNA the only two things that will make me get the new Verizon HTC One (Probably being named the DNA+) would be better battery life and availability in white other than that I doubt that I will be swayed

[Q] Should i get a dna or just wait to get an s4?

Ok so I had a galaxy s3 that I got halfway through my contract like 9 or 8 months ago. A couple weeks ago it would stop charging at random percents. Like if I put it to charge overnight it would stop charging at 30% or something like that so I was screwed when I woke up and had to go to school (unless I brought my charger with
me). So I bought a galaxy nexus off eBay for $150 after I sold my s3 on amazon. Well the nexus gets a terrible signal from both Verizon and my wifi. I found a dna on craigslist for $200 and am wondering it I should just sell my galaxy and get the dna then upgrade to the s4 in august or just wait till august and get the s4?
I'd first look into your signal issues with your Galaxy Nexus. I'm not familiar with that phone, but I'd make sure it's not an issue that a software patch can fix.
Then I think I would go for the DNA since $200 is an amazing price for an unlocked DNA. (though the unusually low price makes me suspect that the phone might not be in the greatest condition?)
When August rolls around, you can decide whether or not you want to upgrade again and resell the DNA. There's a decent chance that the One/DNA2 will be available by then, so you'll have more options as well.
You also might wind up not wanting to upgrade since the S4/One are a relatively marginal upgrade to the DNA. If not, you'll just be able to upgrade more quickly when the next generation of phones are released.
signal issues with the gnex are the phone. it has the worst radios ever. my gnex would get like - 110dbm in a spot my Rezound got like - 98..god it was awful lol

yeah its a problem with the phone it cant be patched but they said the dna was in great condition and it was in an otterbox the whole time they had it.
If the deal is legit pick up that dna. $200 is a great price. You could probably sell the gnex for about that if it is good condition.

[Q] Keep the Rezound? or switch to Moto X / LG G2 / Galaxy S4 or HTC One?

Been debating on this for a while, and think I'm going to pick up something new this week if I decide to grab a new phone.
Phone will be on Verizon.
I'll be using this 90% of the time in the PAC NW area of the country. other 10% will be divided up between DC/South US/Hawaii/INTL.
I've been checking spec comparisons between them and a few other phones on multiple sites, but wanted to see if any of you had a first hand opinion between these choices.
Right now I'm looking at the Moto X (32GB) , LG G2, HTC ONE, and Galaxy S4, was thinking about getting the Nexus 5 and jumping carriers, but I really can't see any benefit to it that the other phones don't have aside from vanilla android.
i.e. this link to phonescoop comparing the Rezound, Moto X, HTC One, HTC One Max, and Nexus 5
phonescoop link
and this one on phone arena comparing the Moto X, Rezound, and G2
phone arena link
and another one from phone arena comparing the Moto X, Rezound, and HTC One.
phone arena link 2
one more from phone arena comparing the Moto X, LG G2, and Galaxy S4
yet another phone arena link
and my last comparison, the Rezound vs Moto X, S4, One, G2
last link I swear!
My biggest pros for any of the newer ones are the scratch resistant screen, more LTE bands & more GSM bands for when I travel.
As well as NFC would be fun to mess around with, as well as the faster cpu / gpu / more ram. Granted I can't think of anything the rezound hasn't been able to run aside from GTA-VC which is only second hand to me as I haven't tried it.
moto x specific pros-
S-GPS
EDR for bluetooth
only $100 for 32GB version
moto maker if i want it in crazy colors
lg g2 specific pros-
fastest cpu / fasted gpu
quadcore cpu
biggest battery
biggest screen
faster ram
htc onc specific pros-
love the look, and like the built in stereo speakers
samsung galaxy s4 specific pros-
quadcore cpu
highest PPI on screen
faster ram
My cons are for the most of the newer ones are
non-removable battery
no SD card slot.
What I'm asking after all of that rambling is first hand comparisons between the rezounds and these devices, or these devices compared amongst each other.
aka- Sway me one way or the other.
TL;DR - have rezound, debating on Moto X / LG G2 / HTC ONE / Galaxy S4. Any first hand experiences to compare them?
Thanks!
I have the HTC one and I can tell u it's GREAT. I didn't think any phones were worth upgrading from the rezound this year but when my phone cracked 3 weeks ago I had to get a new one. I went threw the same comparisons but instead of nexus 5 it was note 3. I knew the specs of the note 3 were the best of them all but I really don't like touchwiz so that was out of the question and the s4. Then I saw the moto x but it was still $199 at Verizon and $99 on every other carrier plus no moto maker so that was out of the question. Then it was the one vs g2. I used both at a Verizon store and well the G2 was nice the one and it's metal build were just so much nicer. Also the speakers were a great add on and I wasn't really feeling the button on the back of the G2. Also the one has the highest ppi of all the phones not the s4. Either phone is a great choice but I can tell u I get 3.5-4 hours screen on time easy with auto brightness on the one and about a day and a half usage moderate. Also I have experienced no lag whatsoever on the one

^^^ I second this...
Any of them would be step up, you wouldn't be disappointed at all, but the LG G2 is a beast (3000mah battery) if you are stuck with Verizon for whatever reason, but if you can jump ship the Nexus 5 on a pre-paid GSM carrier is the way to go, for an unlimited talk/text plan with 2-3Gb data it will run you $45-$60/month... saving about $40-$55 monthly over a standard VZW plan easily paying for the phone in 6-9 months.
I've been thinking about getting a new phone for the past few months as well...I got myself dead set on the One and went to the store to just mess around with it for a bit and pretend like I owned it. Super smooth/fast, beautiful screen, cool speakers...hate the UI. The more I tried to do basic tasks the less I liked it. The two buttons didn't help either. Basically, I recommend going into a store and just pretending like the phones are yours. Specs and reviews and videos and what everyone else thinks doesn't really matter in the end, the phone has work with you.
I'm sure with some new roms etc I could find a way to be happy with the One...but I need some time to get over my frustrations first good luck!

I was holding out hope that the Nexus 5 would some how come to VZW. While I was waiting, my wife picked out the G2. I put Scott Scrosler's Clean ROM and she really enjoys this phone. I've been playing with it and waiting for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. I found a way to get the G2 for free. This phone is great and there's a lot of dev support. If you have to stick with VZW and the price of all the phones is the same, I recommend the G2.

I have had the one for a little over a month. Will say its a good phone with good battery life. Sure there is the possible purple tent issue but nor all of them has this problem. Best to check the camera out by covering the lens with your hand and see if you get the purple tent. Rooting is easy and as always some great ROMs already out there. The all aluminium body is a real plus for this phone.
I tried the camera on the moto line of phones and the picture just turned out grainy and bad. Even with the one purple tent in low light settings its still takes a great pic just like the s4 does. Think HTC finally got sense under control as its not laggy and doesn't seem as a battery drain like older versions of sense was. In the end people likes different things and you will never know till you use it. Nice thing Verizon has the 14 day return policies. Good luck in your choice.

*WALL OF TEXT INCOMING* (just a friendly warning)
I ended up ordering the LG G2 (staying with verizon) from bestbuy.
last sunday, (the 17th) I noticed that bestbuy had all of the lg g2s marked down to 100$ and had a 50$ gift card, so I checked it out on the best buy website, and saw that you had to bring in a working smartphone to trade in to get it at that price, but if you ordered online, it took the 50$ off instantly.
While looking on the Bestbuy website at the LG G2s, for some reason, even though every other carriers version was $99.99, the verizon one was listed at $49.99.
I ordered it online, thinking they would kick the order out and that it was an errror or something.
I figured $50 for the phone and a $50 bestbuy giftcard, probably an error or an early black friday price mistake.
They sent an email the next day saying there was an urgent problem with the order and call within 48 hrs or it would be cancelled, I called and the rep couldnt figure out why it sent me that email, and after being on hold for about 30 minutes came back and said they called shipping and had them force the order though.
They also said they spoke to verizon and had it activated, I didn't think anything of it at the time and just said thanks.
After the call, i put the phone down and a few minutes later went to call my wife, but when I hit send, it rang and then said "this phone is not registered with verizon" or something to that effect, then I remembered the rep said they activated the new phone. FACEPALM time.
I tried a few other numbers, same error message. tried 611, it rang! went through 3 reps telling them exactly what I thought happened (the bestbuy person got confused and got someone from vzw to activate a new phone on my line w/o a new imei or new sim somehow). 3rd rep i spoke with said that was exactly what happened. took about 10-15 minutes but reset everything back to my original imei/sim (the htc rezound). so now i can make calls again.
2 days later got a shipment notification email.
of note- I noticed monday morning when I logged into bestbuys website to check the order status (this is before receiving the problem email) to see if it shipped yet, and the price was up to $99.99 for all carriers including verizon, and now had an extra line on the page- it's 150 at the store, and when you bring in a smartphone to trade in, you get a 50$ gift card that you then HAVE to use in the transaction to get the price down to $99.99. online orders still took the price to $99.99 immediately.
Been checking today since it's supposed to arrive today, and it looks like it's back up to 199.99 and they are still doing the gift card, but you have to trade in a smartphone and use the giftcard on the spot to get it down to 150.
tl:dr-
50$ for the G2, free shipping (but slowwwwwww, totally should have paid the 10$ to get it in 2 days if i knew it was going to take 7 days) and 50$ best buy gift card.
and i finally got the email an hour ago for the 50$ bestbuy egiftcard.
of note, they pricematch, so I'm hoping someone lowers it to $.01 for black friday and then I can go get my $50 back and have it for free!
chose the g2 since it was marked down so low and has the faster CPU/GPU, even though i won't be able to change the battery (but it does have the biggest stock battery at 3000ma, which is awesome since my std rezound battery only lasts a few hours and the extended battery doesn't even last a day anymore)
Thanks for the advice everyone!
after a week with the G2, i've got to say it's amazing. I still have the rezound and will start tinkering with it since i finally have another device, but the G2 is insanely fast at everything so far. love it. can't recommend it enough.

Preordered my Verizon HTC M9

Got the preorder email from Verizon on April 1st and had the grey version preordered within 10 minutes. It is suppose to ship on 4/10 via 2 day. I will miss my M8 but won't miss the Ultrapixel camera on the back. I was running DH GPE most of the time on my M8 and it was pretty solid.
Hopefully, the boys will have an S-Off method in short order. I don't care if I have to pay for it. @beaups and @jcase, if you need a VZ tester, count me in
