System Apps (M8 ATT) - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I have seen other system pulls for our device but i am just posting the system apps only. This reduces the size and time to download. It's always a good idea to have a backup of the system apps handy. Hope this helps a few of you.

[NAND][A]Space and Power Issues

I have picked up lots of bits of information about how to maximize space issues and maximize battery life for those of us who are in love with these amazing new NAND builds....especially those of us with European HD2 phones who only have 512MB to play with
I have compiled them below for ease of reference - I claim no originiality for these ideas...I am just bringing them together...so MAJOR THANKS TO ALL THOSE OUT THERE! You know who you are...
I have already posted this on the DFT thread as I love that particular build, but they should (might!) work for other builds and I post it here for further reference as it took me a long time to sift through the threads to find it all.
Space
1. Before flashing your phone, using DFT Stock Desire, for example, you can edit the flash.cfg file and change the following line:
cache ya 40M >>to>> cache ya 15M
This reduces the cache by 25M with no discernible impact on the speed of the build (imo).
This should give you in excess of 130MB free after a clean flash on that particular ROM. Expect that to drop to around 100MB once Market, Flash and a couple of other apps update themselves.
Some NAND ROMs will not even have this as an option, and others may look a little different. You can read about how the flash.cfg file is structured here.
2. Immediate install Z4 to root your device. You will need to get it from here. (Note: it may get stuck on 'Rebooting'. Wait a minute or so and then manually reboot - it will work fine and SuperUser will now work after the reboot)
Put it on your SD card and then install a file manager from the Market to browse to it and then install and run. Follow the details on the thread...
3. Install Move2SD. You can get it from the Market. Full details are here.
This allows you to move most (not quite all) apps to SD. It is the best option I have found to move most of those awkward apps.
I have now installed pretty much all of my apps that I used to run on non-NAND builds and have moved about 90%+ of them to the SD card. At time of writing I have loads of apps installed and still have over 70MB free
Battery
1. Install Battery Monitor Widget or Current Widget from the Market so that you have a way of tracking your current usage.
2. Install Set CPU - free for XDA members from here, but also available on the Market.
After setting your Main Screen to 'OnDemand' and 'Set on Boot', assign SetCPU a couple of profiles. I tend to use:
>> Screen Off: Max/Min 245000, Scaling 'OnDemand', Priority 50%
>> Battery <25% Max 384000/Min 245000, Scaling 'OnDemand', Priority 50%
You can play to your hearts content here, but these give me consistently 7ma in Standby.
Also, you can reduced the sampling rate to 20000 and 'Set on Boot' in Advanced if you like.
3. Avoid power hungry background stuff like animated wallpapers and turn off GPS, Wireless etc. There are LOADS of apps out there that can do this automatically for you free from the market, but I have found that making sure my GPS is off (I have a widget to show me) plus SetCPU is plenty. It may work for you though.
4. Some have reported that Darkstone's suggestion makes a major difference to their power consumption:
"To fix high power drain / usage in standby (60mA or 70mA) disable 'Use wireless networks' in Settings>Location menu. You will now get 7mA or less constantly. I discovered this as the main culprit last night. Also works in other builds."
Anyway, there you go - a few consolidated thoughts - happy NANDing!
MOD - just realised I have posted this in the wrong Q&A forum - please delete thread as I have put it in the Android one now...sorry.

[Q] System apps that are safe to be user installed

With ICS on the SGS2, the /system partition is rather full. Roms may remove some of the samsung or ancilliary packages to fit stock AOSP , or other cool apps.
My question is which of these "stock" apks are ok with being installed as a user app, and which MUST be installed in /system
I know google maps works ok as a user app, which can free up a bit of space, but what else.
For example I may take a rom with AOSP apps, and want to readd the samsung apps (calendar, address book).
Is there a list? Of any that definately work ok as user apps?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069924 will show you what's okay to remove, but not what is okay to move.
(I really don't see the point of your request, as everything will fit in /system and the more which is left in there, the better)

Storage space issues

OK I came across this problem last month & tried to find a solution. I discovered many posts to the same problem however I was only able to fix it by doing a factory reset. The problem has come up again & I'd rather not reset it again. It only comes up after numerous picture uploads to Facebook. Until I do that my phone runs fine. I'm running Open Kang if that makes a difference. Given this information does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix it? It was suggested that I flash a new ROM as maybe the one I have is too big? Starting to get extremely frustrated with a phone I've only had since April & really know nothing about

This is (as others suggested) a problem with the ROM you have installed. There really is no way of getting around a wipe, but you can download an app called "Titainum Backup" and backup your apps from there. Once you get into your new ROM, simply download Titainium Backup again and restore your apps.
As far as fixing the problem goes, I would reccomend using ODIN to flash back to stock, then flash CM9. (However, I am sure that flashing from your current rom directly to CM9 would work just as well)
The real reason this is occurring is the mounting of the /datadata simlink to the /data/data partition, this is actually in the kernel and sets it when flashing, not the rom. That partition stores the data for applications, and continues to grow as apps run. Often times when you sync alot of emails it will also fill the partition when its mounted as /datadata, so that makes sense with your pic uploads to facebook, now I'll tell you why.
Early on in ICS builds, we had two schools of thought. If you mount with the /data/data partition, you have essentially 2GB of space for that app data, however, this comes at the cost of decreased performance and much slower application response times. If its mounted with /data/data symlinked to /datadata, it clips that partition at about 180MB, a lot smaller, but the increase in performance is phenomenal.
So it was damned if you do (slow response times) or damned if you don't (less space) for those of us in the rom game. I think most (myself and DD included) made a conscious decision after lots of testing, to use /datadata with less space, for faster performance.
You may be easily able to resolve it by performing some simple app maintenance. On apps like email and gmail, set your sync interval down to a few days, uninstall unnecessary applications, and with facebook, I don't use it myself, but try clearing its cache if there is a setting for that, or go into apps in settings, and clear the data for the application. You may have to sign in again, but it should not effect your uploaded content, merely clear the local cache on the phone freeing up that /datadata space.
Hope this sheds some light on the issue for you, and how you can avoid it or remedy it going down the road.

Tips to make your system slimmer!

*aosp*
For anyone who likes as light as possible: you can go into system/vendor/srec and clear out anything past 1mb. Also, you can delete system/usr/folder that contains face unlock information. Mine was named PittPat for whatever reason. Also, system/usr/icu/dat is another useless 8mb. I deleted 50 mb of system data that way... Faster backups, more space for your device.
You can use adb u to see what in your system is huge and go after it. That's how I found this neat little trick.
My backups went about 20 seconds faster. I'm the type of person to slim down as much as possible. one This depends on data, etc, but my cm 10.1 system size is 235 mb... If anyone would like info on system apps you can delete, let me know. I use no bloat pro. It remembers your settings and you can just click delete.
I'm the type of person to get rid of everything I don't use. Vpn dialogs? Pico tts? One time in it? Gone!

[Q] Why do some apps not work when moved to the System Partition

I've been using android for a while, and I'm not afraid to fiddle with my phone, so generally I root, remove bloatware and install ad blockers and stuff.
My motivation in this situation is that I'm low on storage space.
However, my current phone isn't remotely as ubiquitous as the HD2 I had previously and I can't just shrink down the system partition to make more room for internal user apps (at least not with confidence I won't brick my device).
So, I tried moving all my google apps back onto the system partition (I only like having apps I know I use regularly on system, so my OEM apps, Google apps, Skype and Facebook) and only half of them work.
I'd like to understand why this is and if there's anything I can do to fix it, because most of these apps were installed as system apps originally and worked fine (I moved them to user because pushing updates to system caused this same issue, and having duplicate installations is redundant).
A secondary part to this question is whether odexing is required or not on system (I thought this might be the issue, but odexing all system apps didn't work. I've read it's better to deodex and zipalign, so I will do that if odexing isn't important.
All good questions, I am in the same boat. Upgraded from an S3 to an S4, addicted to the CM themes and the best of them are quite large but require system space usage so even though I have loads of space on my ExtSD I have run out of space on my internal and now am having an issue with pushing simple updates to my system apps. Hope you get an answer to this question soon
