I'm on stock 4.3 MK2, is it okay to install the Google Experience Launcher? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

From this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506488
And can I just install the GoogleHome.apk from that link or do I also need the PrebuiltGmsCore.apk and Velvet.apk?
I'm finally sick of the Samsung default launcher, and absolutely love the Google Experience launcher on my Nexus 7 and don't want to buy or pay for any of the other 3rd party launchers that people sometimes talk about.
So am I good just installing GoogleHome.apk or should I wait until Verizon finally releases 4.4 on the phone so I can download the google experience launcher the correct way from the play store?

Well, I tried it, Just installed the GoogleHome.apk and I have the launcher and everything seems to be working.

Go for it. I put it on a few weeks ago. It rocks. I have had no issues at all. Matter of fact, I put the Xposed GEL Settings and Unicon apps on there as well and love it even more now that I can change the grid size and icons.

Go Launcher EX Update Bugged?!

Hello, i'm new to this forum, kind of a noob still with rooting and everything but anyways, just the other day I had a new update for go launcher ex. Everything ran fine until after the update. It won't let me change the effects, go into settings, or change themes. It also still displays icons for APPS that i have fully uninstalled before and I can't get rid of them unless I use Astro to delete the raw files of the app. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Go Launcher several times, but that doesn't work.
I'm running this on a brand new Galaxy Nexus so it might be compatibility issues with the new ICS OS... Anyone else have this issue?
Yep might be a compatibility issue, have you tryed adw ex launcher? i saw it in a post and installed it and have been in love with it ever since

I've tried it out, but I like go launcher because it has an ICS theme for free while keeping all the cool effects and stuff. the problem with adw for me is that i can only set one app in my appdock on my homescreen with a custom icon.. and that really bothers me with the looks. it also doesn't change any of the app icons in the app drawer. prob compatibility issues too. i hope they update both of them soon!

Confusion on Launchers and Manufacturer Changes

My understanding is that when device manufacturers customize Android, all they're doing is removing the Stock Launcher and Lock Screen and replacing it with their own. Take the S4 as an example...touch wiz is just a launcher and lock screen, right?
If true, then since Android is open source, how come no one hasn't packaged the stock launcher and stock lock screen into an APK so that people can side-load it and bring back their phones to as close to stock as possible? I know I can download launchers like Nova, but I want the Google one. Can't it just be thrown into an APK?
Thanks
About Stock Launcher, try this one. About lockscreen... I dunno if there is a port out there, but you can use Holo Locker.
Thanks! How is that not more common knowledge? I never hear anyone talk about downloading the stock launcher. It's always Nova, Apex, etc. For Android purists, seems like it should be really popular and the first thing you'd do when you get a non-Nexus phone.

[Q] Google Now Launcher

I wanted to install and use the Google Now Launcher in my Moto E... But the fact is, After I set it all up, I have noticed 2 things:
a) It takes up a huge amount of RAM
b) The transition from the app drawer to the Home Screen is really, really choppy (laggy)
My question is : Is this a problem with my device or some problem related to the launcher itself?
(I have also used the Nova, Aviate and Apex Launchers before... But they have all been smooth like the stock Launcher)

Install Link2SD app and move some apps to the SDCARD to free up space, then install the google launcher now, I did it and ran well, to make this you need rooted.
Google Search version 4.0 doesn't have this issue, as the transition from home screen to app drawer and vice versa is smooth. But the only catch is that, as Google Search version 4.0 is only released with Lollipop, installing it in 4.4 unrooted ROMs would make your OK Google search hotword not working anymore. So have to disable OK Google hotword or it keeps crashing. If you don't mind that, then its a prefect launcher.

ya those transitions are really laggy..but those will be fixed in lollipop.!
BUT WHERE IS THAT UPDATE MANNN..!!AM FRUSTRATED NOW
I am downloading Google Search v4... along with the L Launcher...
But the catch is, my phone is not rooted...
So I'll try and disable "Ok Google" and find out.
Thanks everyone
I am using google now launcher w/o OK google and average 450 mb free ram.No lags.

[Q] How do i change icons indiviually for each app?

Hi XDA,
Im using Nexus 6 5.1.1 rooted with xposed, i have unicon installed which is great. But i remember long time ago i had the option to choose icon for each and every app which now is gone from the app for some reason.
I'm looking for a way to change the icon such as unicon does, change the icon from the system itselft. Im using Google now launcher and i dont want to switch it to Nova or any other launchers out there.
Tried Xposed GEL settings but i cant to get any icon change with it.
Do you know any other programs i can try?
Try Nova.

Too much trouble to read the OP?
@torecdude I don't believe you have options though. Unicon hasn't been updated in almost 2 years and doesn't have support for the newest Xposed Frameworks. The Pro version of the Xposed GEL settings supports icon packs, but not individually and not system wide, just for the launcher itself. Besides a 3rd party launcher, you're stuck with all or nothing solutions per individual basis. I don't understand the reluntance to a 3rd party launcher like Nova or Apex though. What does the stock launcher offer that they do not?

I Did notice Unicon Beta is expanding so maybe finally it will get updated. Anyways, ill might try Nova sometimes, im just very pleased with Now launcher because im a stock freak with my nexus 6. But if there's no other way to change icons per app perhaps ill try Nova some day.

Icons not working

Just got my s9 plus about a week ago and have been trying to customize it a bit. Still stock at this point with no plans to root any time soon.
I downloaded some themes and some Icon packs from Samsung and tired a few of them, and I also downloaded the google launcher and the pixelizer theme since I really prefer the stock android launcher and most of the apps over the samsung ones. For some reason if I change the theme or the icon pack or the launcher to anything other than the stock ones all the samsung app icons change to these really ugly black and grey ones. It wouldn't bother me except for the fact that I want to keep the icon for the stock camera app on the home page, but it looks horrible.
I am coming from a note 4 which I have had since around when it launched. I never had this problem with it with any themes or launchers.

Use a third party launcher such as Nova or Action. Problem solved.

I tried nova and it does the same thing. As soon as I change the launcher all the samsung apps change to a crappy icon that wont change with any of the themes. I would prefer to stick with the google launcher or maybe even stock touchwiz with a theme. I have used nova in the past and there may be a way to get it to work, but at this point in life I dont care about customizing tons of stuff on my phone. I pretty much just want to be able to get the google launcher working with some icons that dont look horrible. I would even be happy with the stock icons for the samsung apps.
