Restore partitions of phone? Bricked?! - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hello I need a way to restore the phones partitions. Like boot and recovery and u-boot and x-boot and system and cache and data and all the others. The phone has no known partitions. And because of that I am unable to flash my phone back to a working state. I have tried in fastboot to run OEM format. But it failed. If there is something I can flash in a .bin or a kdz I can flash it in software mode. Or if there is a way to do it in fastboot mode I can also do that. But those are the only two things my phone can do right now. And worse is each time I enter either fastboot or software download mode it will only stay on and active for about 2 minutes until the phone shuts off. And I have to start over completely. So I can flash a whole kdz or bin as they take too long. Please help me?!

Are you getting an error of "Remote Partition Doesn't Exist"? If so that usually means you have a hardware problem.
Try this -

Yes that is what it says.

I am not sure how to do a lelus method. Unless his method is the omap4boot thing normally called fastboot? If so I have done that. If not can you explain how I can do the lelus method?

Yeah the lelus method is for fastboot... Did you install the drivers on your PC twice? You have to run the lelus script 2 times to get it to actually work.
You might also want to look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585161

I do believe i did the driver correctly and iv done the flashing of the lelus script like 60 times lol

Im pretty sure it's a hardware problem but, Exactly... It's definitely worth trying to fix it.

I got a remote partition does not exist on every count. For the erase commands and for the write commands. So does that mean im **** out of luck? I keep thinking since i can get into fastboot and software mode i should be able to do something but yet nothing is working.

Is there any way to use the omap4boot to send the infor to the phone? Since i cant send the phone into fastboot or software mode without omap4boot it seems to show that that program gets the phone into a more working state maybe it can also do the flashing? or a script to keep the phone in the software mode for longer than 2 minutes?

Unfortunately I think the EMMC is fried...
If you can figure out how to adapt this method and get it to work on the L9 this is probably your only hope -
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/71825-hard-brick-to-hell-and-back-guide-to-recovery/
Other than that you could try taking it to a service center and having them try an OctopusBox to repair it or go where you bought it and try to make a warrant claim.
I know it sucks but I think these are your only real options. I'm not sure about were you live but I can buy a brand new L9 right now for $30 from MetroPCS.

Ouch. And it does look promising the link you provided just not sure if I will be able to make it work for my phone model. But I'm going to look into it. Looks like only one thing might be device specific that I don't already have and may have to make or find someone to make for my phone.

I have exact same problem. Only have to fix partitions is by Omap flasher. But we need to port the memory configuration for it. People have done it for galaxy Nexus (Tuna ) and galaxy tab. Omap flasher is the last hope in this phone.
Or
Hardware way would be flashing emmc using Z3X easy JTAG box.

I still have the phone and it's still in the same condition. I was never able to get it working I gave up probably the next days as I had spent like a week on it already I had decided it's probably just a brick. I have no idea where or what I was doing with it at that time tho. I know I was only very slightly ever able to see that it wasn't completely bricked like some program was able to see it when connected to the PC. But no lights on the device no nothing. So I have no clue how to fix it.

It's not the most correct thing to do (actually, not at all, it was your friend's fault entirely, also voiding the warranty), but your friend can tell them that the device began to heat while charging, he unpluged it and it died, sometimes it happens...
As for the JTAG you asked on the other post, it's a physical connector inside the cellphone used to write the flash memory, it involves opening the device, pinning some terminals and programming via PC, it's pretty common on embedded devices to load the program for the first time.
There is still a chance to get the phone back to its senses!
you will need 2 people to do this
read all 5 steps then only proceed!
1. Remove the battery.
2.Start odin in your pc.
3.connect the mobile to the pc using cable.
4.keep pressing the keys required to get in download mode. i.e. power+home+volume down key.
5.ask someone else to put the battery in your phone keeping the keys pressed!.
if every thing goes right Odin will detect the phone Flash it with a good rom you know which works! and never take out the cell from odin when its being flashed until odin says Success!

Won't work if the PIT wasn't completed therefore leaving the device void of a bootloader, but it's worth the try, you have nothing to lose...

Afaik u never supposed 2 use pit options in odin for gs2 otherwise u end up with a brick anyway regardless if u remove the cable or not. perhaps read more and be more careful if u ever decide 2 flash again. i would not be happy with that friend lol.

Hard brick!

so after hard bricking my device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731445 i got it into some kind of download mode. i also managed qpst to see my phone but i dont know how to use that. not sure if fastboot would recognize the phone in that download mode. i just wanted to know if there was a way to pull the stuff i had in the internal sd card like adb pull but adb wont see the phone. tmobile told me to go tomorrow so they can exchange it for another one but before i bricked it i copied some of the pics and vids from the camera 2 times using root explorer. the first time i didnt get all of them and the second time they all say they they were corrupted.

yup now i learned my lesson. the qualcom tool is the qpst i was talking about. but you need the files to flash to it. i think your files are lost bro. unless you send it to samsung so they can fix it. i dont think if they flash it will delete your files since they wont flash to the sd card partition. but then again im not sure if they will notice if you were rooted. next time im saving all my stuff into my external sd
Yea, now I just await the call from Bestbuy about getting more in. My JIG comes in tomorrow so we will see.
Not surprisingly to see people who ruin there device and want to exchange it for another. Of course even though it was there own fault for ruining it they shouldn't have to pay for the replacement.
Makes perfect sense for companies and carriers not to support rooting/flashing. Its bad enough already.

That is the reason Motorola locked their bootloaders, and others have raised insurance premiums. Please don't lie. Its insurance fraud first of all. If you ruined your device by flashing non-stock ROM's and such its time to man up, and dish out the money for a new phone. Don't make other's pay for your mistakes/missfortune. Do some more research on the other method of flashing and see if you can fix it. I wish you luck.

[Q] LG Optimus L5 BIG PROBLEM

I bought LG Optimus L5 E610 few months but i rooted it just few days ago. After i rooted it i installed ROM Manager and installed CWM but my device was not in the lost so i selected LGE Optimus M+ (idk why). Then a friend of mine told me about the "cool app" Beats Audio Installer and i installed it. After i rebooted the phone the speaker started making crazy sounds. I read in the app's site that i have to install a ROM to restore the original sound driver. I decided to install the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790342 but when i tried to install it it asked me to boot in recovery mode and i accepted. After it restarted it showed this " Secure booting error! cause: boot certification verify. Now I want to restore it to its original state but i don't know how so please help me fast.
Read this, to install the correct CWM for your phone (you'll have to download the .img yourself):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827723
Then, boot to recovery & flash your fixes from there.
Alternatively, you can use the KDZ flasher to restore to pure stock.

Use this to download your original firmware.
Use this guide to flash it with the KDZ updater.
When it's done, you'll be back to stock ROM, and all your data will be gone. Don't play with your computer or have anything else running, because if your computer freezes during the flash (or you remove your phone's battery) your phone will be hard-bricked.
If you would rather save your data & only flash CWM onto the recovery partition, you need to find & download the .img or .zip file of CWM which was made for your phone, then flash it using Android Flash Recovery.

If your phone is only soft bricked LG will easily be able to tell you rooted it and "installed unauthorized software" on your phone and they very likely won't honor your warranty or offer to fix it. JTAG essentially allows you to restore your phone to its original condition if you have a brick or some soft bricks. What they do is they take apart the back of the phone so they can access the JTAG pads, they then solder wires to the JTAG pads. Next when a connection had been established they hook up the wires to a riff box using a ribbon cable, they then attach a cable from the riff box to the computer. From here they use a special program called Riff Box JTAG manager, to resurrect your device (Restore bootloader, etc.). After that they flash the original firmware that came with your device and your phone should work again.
For more information on JTAG check out these links and video.

Word of warning: Technically deliberating bricking your phone and getting an insurance replacement is fraud and is a federal offense. The right thing to do would be to bring it and attempt to explain your situation (Or you could play dumb, and maybe they'll help you again they won't be happy and you could be in trouble if they figure out your lying) there is a possibility they will fix it for a reasonable price. In the end you unfortunately might have to buy a new phone,

Unless you know what your doing you could destroy your phone to the point of it being beyond unbrickable, if LG says they won't repair it for you look online for a local shop in your area that's reputable and knows how to JTAG phones back to life.

Is it possible to completely Hard Brick the LG G2?

I'm just wondering if you can completely Hard Brick a LG G2 to a point, where there is no revive possible.
I can purchase a cheap LG G2 international version, but the seller says that he broke it during flashing a Kernel.
Can you for example revive a phone, that had a Kernel from completely different phone flashed?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my C6503 using Tapatalk 2
If it's true he only flashed a new kernel then u can restore it. If he messed with the partitions then.... No. If he used a broken usb cable and fried it....
Well ask to try the phone before u by it. Also check if it's stolen
Alright, I gathered some more information from the seller.
He tried updating TWRP, but he followed wrong instructions from some website.
He can´t enter Recovery or Download Mode on the Phone.
The Display is active, but only Backlight.
When he connects the Phone to his Computer, it shows multiple Mass Storages, but the LG Software doesn´t recognize it.
Is this a common problem, that is easy to fix, or should I rather wait for another Deal to come up.
p.s. I asked him for a receipt, and he says that he has one.

If the guy was updating through TWRP, he probably have some knowledge on the matter, and the chances that he bricked it for good is high.
When I messed up my G2 a few times, being able to enter in download mode was the hint that the phone was revivable, if him really can't enter the download mode, then it is probably a bigger problem.
But the question is, by buying this possible lemon, how much will you be saving compared to buying a brand new?
If it's showing up like that, if you have a Linux machine you may be able to use dd to flash factory images to the partitions. There is a guide to it somewhere on here. But even if you were successful in flashing those, it really depends on how badly he screwed it up. In particular I really hope he didn't damage or wipe his efs. Or at least has it backed up.
Honestly, I'd point him to the right guides and have him fix it. If he screwed up his efs, or messed the partitions up, or fried something, it's dead and not coming back. If all he did was flash a kernel in twrp and it was actually from this phone and it was just a bad download or flash or something, then you'd probably be okay, but if that were the case you'd get a secure boot error and still be able to enter download mode. Personally, I would not buy a phone that won't boot, especially if the seller isn't even sure what's wrong with it.

sounds recoverable, if there is a backlight and mass storage comes up that's good, you can dd partitions with linux
no backlight + no recognizable usb device at all = bricked
still, buy at your own risk
It is.. i just did by flashing a broken rom.. sent it to the repair center and they replaced the motherboard
Right, I asked him if the Device shows as qhsusb_bulk in device Manager, and it does.
The only thing that worries me, is that there is no Boot Logo, most of the people in the Linux Fix Thread atleast get a LG Logo and not just Backlight.
I´m really unsure what to do, I can save like 150€ by buying the broken G2, but well . . . I dont know if I can fix it.
Another problem is, that I have not a single clue on how to operate Linux/Ubuntu, and the only real fix requires either of those

Just look up a guide on how to install an Ubuntu virtual machine. You should be able to connect your G2 to that virtual if you let it capture the USB port. If you can get it cheap, buy it and try to negotiate so you might have a chance on selling it for higher later on if you can't fix it. To me though, it sounds quite fixable, I would go for it.

this doesn't really matter, when I was trying to mess with the bootloader and corrupted it a few times I've never had the LG logo, as long as it comes up as storage you can DD it - the only time its a true brick is with no backlight and no usb device
if theres no boot logo you probably need to DD the aboot in

I had that problem when updating TWRP too. You have to be careful because these recoveries are only made for specific firmware versions. I cant remember how I fixed the issue after only being able to get a backlight on and no image, but I did fix it and my phone works fine. I do think you will need the TWRP files already on the phone to fix though, so you can somehow manage to flash back. They will need to be on the phone since you can push anything via ADB

i've been in this bricked situation when i was trying the 4.4.2 update manually...completely bricked, could not get into download mode too...so gave it to the service centre which at first said the main board will have to be changed when recovering through software upgrade failed...next day i got the phone back as they managed to flash the software back on it...
does not end here...i tried to flash optimus g pro 2 rom through twrp and same thing happened again...but was lucky this time as i could enter download mode and flashed kdz to recover...

And yes i truly believe that our device can be hard bricked like i did mine today.
I tried to compile a custom bootloader for G2 using Qualcom's sources and fraction of LK. But in doing so i left my phone in a quasi-state where it will not connect as a usb device coz it does not pass the bootloader (Although bootloader is working as it should). .
So the only two option remain here for me is
1. To send phone back to LG service center where they'll do idk what.
2. To use JTAG or short the ic (Wonder if it could be done ) i.e manually open the phone and boot into the primary bootloader(Qcom legacy BL).
See that's how you can hard brick ur phone the right way

But it did work coz our bootloader enfoces the signature check not in the sbl.(Our Primary boot loader)
i'm sure of it because it tries to go to download option but freezes at initial stage.
had it been the case my device would've been detected as qucom_bulk device or so..

You my dear friend are a victim of a curroupt bootloader seqence(NOT THE CoRRUPT BOOTLOADER) i.e
Your phone would start something like
1- EFI initialization ok
2-Primary Boot Load -ok
3-Vendor Boot Load -ok
4- Error unable to find proper boot sequence- system halted
So ur best options are the one that i've stated just above this thread.
My case. I root and flash custom recovery then apply OTA = medium brick. Download mode was not functioning, only recovery. To make matter worse, I flashed KK stock rom through ADB in recovery = super brick. Then I went to LG service center with poker face asked for reparation. They asked (confirm) whether your phone is rooted or not (they had already know though) and I just said like It is my sister's phone. Then they they open the phone and maybe directly format the sd card with some stuff. My phone is restored again afterward. In my opinion, software modification can always be repaired unless you fry your phone through overclock or overvolt.

Bricked for good?

Hi all, I was in the process of trying to put Android 5.0 on my Verizon G3. I was following this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/howto-update-to-stock-lollipop-23a-t3044398. I downgraded to 10b, upgraded to 12b and then the last step, which is when things went wrong is I was upgrading to 23b (5.0) via the Action Launcher method and when the device when to boot back up to install the update it failed.
Im now stuck to where I can not power up the device, I get the LG screen and it says "Secure Boot Error/Certificate Error".. something along those lines. I lost the ability to get into download mode, it tries and then shows the boot error screen before going black.. the notification lights also flash amber and blue. The only thing I can get into is Recovery mode by Volume down + power but I tried every option.. safe mode, wipe cache, factory reset, usb debug mode all give me the boot error screen before going black.
Any suggestions before I trash the device?
I don't know how to get out of that situation, but if you post in the Verizon G3 Q&A section, someone might have some ideas.
Otherwise, I'd go to a Verizon store, tell them that you received am OTA update and left your phone like that.

This is the VZW G3 Q&A no?
I called tech, said I received an update and wasn't sure what happened but the phone wont start now, its going through insurance with the $100 deductible but my concern now is, the tech said if they find it was modded in any way I would be charged $300. The phones not rooted or anything, just a bad file I tried to apply I guess through Action Launcher. But with the notification lights flashing different colors and a boot error message I feel busted lol.
If I can somehow fix the phone I would like to try. I've been in bad situations with other devices and have always found a way out, but this being my first LG device I'm feeling lost and worried its too late.

Blame Tapatalk. Sorry about that, LOL.
I understand. Don't blame me if I'm wrong, but I doubt if they'll be able to tell. First thing they'll do is put it back to Stock with some advanced tool of their, and I'm sure it'll wipe internal storage where the file was.

This is for the g2 but I believe it will work. You'll need to run linux or a linux live cd and find the correct files for vs985. Theyre on autoprimes site. If you cant find them reply to this and ill track down the url.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
That should work , I bricked my g2 and was able to fix it using
Fastboot commands, I'm thinking you can use adb commands
And fix your phone. You basically have to push .img files to
The phone through adb. Good luck
Edit, I could always swap mother boards for under two hundred
And just don't even go through your insurance. Check eBay and
Amazon they sell them.

Yeah I was looking at that last night.. I wouldn't have to be rooted though? I'll see if I can find the files I need. I've never run Linux before but its worth a shot. I was kind of discouraged when I read about a similar G3 user who tried the process with no luck.
Alright I found these.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/reference-stock-img-files-t2966958
Would those do? And what mode would I put the device in? The computer does not recognize the phone..download mode won't work and recovery mode options won't work either. I'm familiar with adb and fastboot but if someone could post the commands I need it would be helpful..in the meantime I'm going to try and see if I can find them myself. Thanks

Does your phone even show as qhsusb_bulk or similar in device manager while in Linux? Make sure you use the img's from the firmware you were installing when you had the problem. I assume 23B. The commands are in the link I posted above but keep in mind they are for the G2. It's likely to DD commands, ie. partition locations are different on the G3, I don't know the correct ones. Maybe some research can dig them up. Doesn't look too bad assuming you can get linux to recognize the phone in some form, which it should and that you're able to verify the location of the partitions for G3. Wish I could be more help. It was a long time ago when I went through this on the G2

I've never had to do insurance for a bad update.
I have TEC and in those cases where there is absolutely no damage, I get a replacement for free.
YMMV but I wouldn't pay $100.

It's a bit confusing the way it's written in the guide. I believe you use the 23b files in your case. Reread it to be sure.
The files are here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/reference-stock-img-files-t2966958
More files here if needed http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G3
I'm not even sure my phone is being recognized..at least nothing pops up. I'm not familiar with terminal commands in linux. At this point I'm lost.. I messaged auto prime to see if he could help out. I'm not even sure where to begin converting that g2 guide for use with the g3.
For the hek of it I'm putting the android SDK on Linux just to see if I can get fastboot to recognize the phone.

Qualcomm driver is on this page.. 252-253 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142&page=252
Good luck, I was able to get the phone recognized as qhsusb_bulk, then as qualcomm 9008 but eventually gave up after spending over 2 days researching and trying different methods before i threw in the towel.. I even had help via remote access to my computer with no luck. Check the thread I linked there were a few guys willing to help out.
My replacement G3 actually arrived today.. still cant believe I hard bricked a device.
