[Q] Lenovo s6000-H problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ladies and gentleman
I bought a Lenovo S6000-H in China for a friend of mine at a very good price. The problem is that it is full of Chinese, the Google Play store does want to work and at the moment we are feeling our way through the Lenovo store becuase of the Chinese.
Here is my question; Can I download all new firm/software for the tablet in order to look like I bought it from South Africa or the closest region, also hoping that the Play Store will work? It is currently running android 4.22. If yes where can I download it?
Thanks!

Hi there. We don't see a lot of Lenovo phones in the states, but have gotten to play with one a while back. I'm certain that if just change the language to English in the Settings, you should be fine. I would be REALLY surprised if it did not have English as an option due to the fact that many people in China (and surrounding areas where they sell the phone) speak it. I was able to navigate through the Lenovo when it was in Chinese just from the icons in the Settings app. Should be the one with a letter on a computer key. Most of the time, the first option or so in the Language & Input section is the language. It should be a very similar process to this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-...language-of-the-Lenovo-K900-from/ta-p/1195353

[Q] Xperia S in China

I spend three months here in China and a month or two back in the UK in between. My phone is needed for work as much as personal use and I was given the choice of handset within a budget. I am with China Mobile. I am new to smartphones and their internal workings so apologies in advance if my questions are at a somewhat simplistic level. You might be interested to know that Sony themselves suggested I came here.
I have had my "S" for just under two weeks now. Smartphone number one for me. So far it has been a mixed bag of highs and lows. The product's design is very nice and all that I hoped it would be. As a music player it is excellent. I am yet to see how it performs as a video player. It surfs the net effortlessly, send messages on a keyboard that is a pleasure to use and has a screen that reminds me of my Bravia back home in the UK. Perfect. Battery life is improving all the time as well.
The lows are more to do with how the software has been created for the Chinese market. There is NOTHING on this phone to link it to Google at all. No apps. relating to Google, nothing. But then considering the relationship they both have, I should not be too surprised.
However, this creates problems for me. I checked that I could access Google Play in China before I bought the phone. I did this online. I can. Doing the same from my phone is different altogether. I cannot.
Sony feel that re-flashing the phone with a UK version of the software might help and at least allow me access to Google Play. So far I am hesitating to go down this route until I have more definitive answers from you experts.
I have saved the Google Play app. to the handset and tried to run it after a successful installation. It never even opens; it just goes back to the home screen.
With hindsight, it might have been sensible to have purchased a handset from the UK to save all these problems but then I may have had a problem of displaying Chinese characters on the phone. Although I speak Mandarin, reading and writing it is a different matter. But it is useful to have this facility when travelling around China as I do.
So, what are your thoughts on how I can start afresh and acquire a UK version of the software or at least a more international one that gives me a fighting chance of doing more with this phone?
I look forward to your advice.
Hello,
First of all, welcome to China. And hope you enjoy everything else except for this little glitch. For your peace of mind, there are two ways that I know to get Google services working, and they are almost harmless.
1. Flash Google services pack, this is the easiest and most problem-free way, but I'm not sure it's currently available with Xperia S or not
2. Flash a Hong Kong or world generic version ROM, which come with Google services pre-installed, and support for both simplified and traditional Chinese characters. To do this, you will need the ROM and a software called flashtool. You could do a search on this forum for the detailed guide.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Thank you.
So, I need Flashtool and a HK/UK ROM for the Xperia S.
Can someone confirm both of these are available before I render my phone useless?
A.
U can try doing an update as well... And see if theres any update that will fix the problem.
These are available and I used them to flash mine.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
I have already used Sony's Update Service. However, even though I have little understanding of these devices, it would seem sensible for Sony to update only what is installed rather than adding bundles of software found in other countries. What are people's thoughts on this?
I have started to read about FlashTool and it seems more than complicated and risky. Everything is written for experts.
Also, it seems that the Xperia S (LT26i) is so new that FlashTool and a "ROM" might not be available yet.
Do keep the replies coming. I am learning all the time. I am hoping this forum is as good as Sony said it is.
A.

[Q] ZTE Open C

I today received the ZTE Open C and I have to say it is a wonderful phone. There is one really irritating thing about it though. It is branded.
Whenever you lock the phone instead of displaying the wallpaper it displays the blue wallpaper of the Firefox, no matter what wallpaper you are using.
So for the people who know Firefox OS well: Is there a way to change this?
what release is running on ZTE Open C?
could you do a short review of the device, and more importantly, where did you get yours so early?
ZTE is sending out the ebay orders starting May 23rd...
not that i am interested in buying one, as i have the 1st Open, and i'll wait for better spec devices like the Alcatel Fire S,
but i guess it would be interesting for one or other here?

I saw the pre-order for it on Ebay on the 3rd of April, so the ship date for me was a lot earlier. It wasn't even linked on Google I just searched for it on Ebay and by chance it was there! Firefox OS 1.3 made by ZTE, and so far it's very good, apart from the problem I have mentioned. I would like to note that there is an app on the phone called "Software Updater" with "Update Device" "Update History" and "Update Frequency" options... I believe this means they are going to keep this updated. I'm using my ZTE Open for testing, and my ZTE Open C for main use (because of the larger screen)
Google ZTE Open C to find the ebay page, all the info is there, I would review it but I've only had it for a day so far
yeah, i would not bet on them supporting this one longer.
as it seems the Open is not supported anymore.
they don't answer questions about this.
Mozilla does not really answer questions about this.
so that is in my book a pretty good sign they wont support it.
lame.
still on MDN as a "developer" device.
how on earth should you "develop" if you can't update the frekking phone because the HAL is missing for newer builds?
thanks a bunch! 80 Euro wasted on a piece of crap phone that isn't worth more than 30USD to begin with.
being "early adopter" sure doesn't pay off here.
you get crappy hardware for a high price.
i pitty all the people who actually bought a geeksphone keon for 150USD (same low hw specs as the Open)
enough rambling, hope to see your review soon?

I'm sorry to dissapoint, but after using it for a few days there isn't enough different to review. There's the Firefox OS 1.3 which we know well, basically no lag at all and everything opens really quickly. The keyboard allows you to type really fast and still be accurate (this could be due to the 4 inch screen). The speaker is a little bit better and is on the front so you don't need to turn the phone around if you're listening to music, there is an update app on the phone which guarentees updates. The update option through the settings has been removed. It comes with a few of what I can only assume are ZTE's wallpapers but none of them have a logo or anything and most are quite good.
My only problem with the phone is that the lock screen never and will never display your wallpaper. It always shows the blue firefox wallpaper even if yours is different. I emailed ZTE and they said the "Firefox System" added it not them which I assume means the official Firefox OS 1.3 carrier build.
I hope this changes, because it's ugly. Other than that the phone is really good.

Oppo Find X “Global” variant

Guys where we can get Find X in Global version.
Any good confirmed web sites where we can order it without issues.
Chinese version is everywhere for around 980$
Also in for a legit site with real Global model
Gearbest
i got mine off ebay.. you have to read the details in the post to see which is regular vs cn version. it came with app store and everything installed.. booklet was in cn and the voice assistant, oppo center and themes are cn.. but everything else is english.
link below:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oppo-Find-...ppo+find+x&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313
Okay, I have watched many India videos of unboxing the oppo find x and they all show the same model number as pafm00. I don't think there is a "global" variant. I would love to be proven wrong if someone could show me otherwise.
Well. If you want to wait, then it would have to be the European release as Mandarin is the #1 most spoken language in the world because of India alone. So the Chinese variants do not differ from India

Mandarin is the language Chinese and Indians speak (Chinese is not a really a language). Most spoken language in the world(by # of people) is Mandarin then English. English is the most widely spoken language (being the national language of over 100 countries)
Hopefully this clarifies what I meant

Not really, I see no mention of Mandarin being a commonly spoken language in India in either link I posted.
Again, I've never been to either country,so, I admittedly have no 1st hand experience with what languages are commonly spoken in India, just what I've read & researched on the subject.
Regardless, the phone hardware is nice, the software blows major chunkage, making for a rather unsatisfying experience in any language, especially at the current price......

Yeah. I know what you are saying. I got the phone and it is great. Almost all Mandarin is gone except voice assistant. But I learned the word to unlock it so I'm happy.
But just a side, here's an article to indicate the push of Mandarin (Chinese) in India as to the reason why, Indians version does not vary from China. And as original stated, just will have to wait on the England launch

Hey. Great to have one. When I traveled over, doing research. I was educated on the fact that Mandarin and english was learned to grow business and other aspects . Along with the other languages and dialects. A few of my colleagues in India also speaks Mandarin. So could it be by areas? I know statistically, Hindi is supposed to be the main.

Hopefully.
Based on the link from this thread. The possibility may be there if we can understand the language and hey someone inside to help release the info or give us ever we need.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/find-X/development/unconfirmed-flashing-tool-oppo-x-t3823160
I wouldn't be first to try flashing the Euro software onto the Chinese device, I've read a number of carnage reports on these forums doing that. Even when possible a mistake can lead to brickage with some devices; a notable example would be the Find 7. Do it right you were ok, make a mistake and you were dead. A very different thing from a vanilla android device which is very hard to truly brick.
Smart money is to wait for the actual Euro version which is not what is being seen in the Indian Tube videos, that is the Chinese variant. The Euro version will not require the seller to install the play store, it will not have a locked launcher as that is against googles terms of service for devices offering the play store. It may or may not have the overly aggressive app shutdown and whether the bootloader will be unlocked is in question. Still, if you're wanting to drop ching that's the device to take a chance on.
i think that they do not want to make some of those changes which is the reason they aren't planning to launch in the US..
PS- mine came with the playstore preinstalled and it is apart of the system apps.. however google play services was not apart of system apps..

My assumption right now is that indian version will be the global one.. point in case the vivo nex doesn't have any issues with 3rd party launchers or jivo shoved down our throats... The Indian version should be good to go
Yes, that's what I'm saying: The version being shown by the Indian Tubers is the Chinese variant. We need to wait for the international. There is no data I can find that confirms the Indian version will be packing the international firmware although like you I presume it. Folks should be aware that India has mandated a spam blocking software on all cell phones sold within the country. It appears it does that but also is a serious piece of spyware which is something to consider when a purchase comes to mind. I suspect this can be easily removed but again no one can prove it until it's done. Meanwhile the Euro version will not have it and is going to be the safest bet when it becomes available.
Some good update from emailing oppo.
After reading the email from the post above I think that now situation is pretty clear.
At the moment ony one hardware model of device is sold (in both india and china). What is different is just the firmware, where for indian market it’s google friendly, with all preinstalled (and i would say european friendly too).
So right now when any online store says that sells global version, it’s just the chinese hardware with indian firmware.
I think that the good news is that hardware is the same! If we found the indian firmware and the flashing tool enabled, we are good!

chinese find x (PAFM00)- Any idea's on how to make this phone usable?

hey smart folks of xdadevelopers,
my father in law does a lot of business in china and was gifted this phone- who then gifted it to replace my dinosaur note 4
It sure is a pretty phone but China has this phone locked up like a prison and it is pretty much unusable out of the box.
I've got no idea what i'm doing, and wanted to check in with you all to see if anything can be done?
I bought oneclickroot in hopes that it would remove all the oppo and Chinese junk, but after working with customer service they said nothing can be done and gave me a refund.
Is there an easy way I can make it function like a basic android phone? or at least make it a usable English phone without all the Chinese bloatware and app restrictions?
I don't know what do You mean exactly with "usable"...I've been using this phone for almost a year And is fine. It's the chinese version too.
You can remove some chinese apps.
And of course You have to download Google play from oppo market...that's pretty much it, once You have Google play You can download everything like a normal phone.
All I hate is no multilanguage (only chinese And English) And that we're still stuck in Android Oreo (shame on You Oppo...)

General On Google Apps - people don't seem to realize this phone is available in Taiwan

I've watched a couple reviews of this phone and people keep saying oh the YouTube app sucks because YouTube is banned in the PRC or whatever, but the phone is widely available here in Taiwan, and taiwanese people use Google apps extensively. So perhaps optimizations will come before oppo does a more international release (it's already internationally released since Taiwan isn't the PRC lol). I'm gonna go check out the phone today at an oppo shop so will get an idea then. Would he funny if I could somehow grab Samsung's version of some apps to throw on there.
Hi Komali2 do you have any news?
I got my phone from giztop and my YouTube works flawlessly. It came with Google Play Services installed I downloaded YouTube and the bonus is its full screen.

Where in Taiwan is it available, can you share the store name? also at what price is it selling there ?
just download the apk
I've already buy with Giztop and now i wait the delivery to my country (Belgium).
I ask to Giztop that keep my box sealed and not open ... then i must instal myself Play Store.
I hope fast delivery and no duties tax because seller said to me no duties.
For the installlation of the apk of Play Store, there is a tuto ?
Easy ?
Where can i found official and last apk for Playstore ?
I installed Google Play from apkmirror (just search for goole play apk on google.co.uk - first hit). The latest right now is
Version: 28.8.17-21 [0] [PR] 420363821 (82881710) arm64-v8a. Google services are already installed on the Find N, so you just need to install the Goople Play APK, download your apps, set GBoard as the default keyboard, and then it acts mostly like a western ROM after that.
Note: apkmirror and and some of the other sites like apkpure, are fairly safe; *but* sideloading apk files is always at your own risk.
OK, i think apkpure and apkmirror are trusted sources and safe ... but never sure at 100% !

Odd; I setup the phone from scratch and then used the latest apk from apk mirror and it all worked fine. Only thing I can think of is that the google services have been overwritten by your Note 9 versions? Try reverting those?
