Instructions:
Buy a Gear Fit
Connect the Gear Fit to your computer.
Download KIES and install it.
Follow the prompts to update the Gear Fit.

Install the first APK from the downloads below.
Open the app you just installed.
Go through the setup again on your device.
Install the second APK below (not mandatory).
You're done!
If you have a Samsung device running a custom ROM, read the third section below.
Get Fit Apps Working (Optional):

Open your build.prop with a text editor.
Edit the following values:
ro.product.model=GT-I9505
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=SM-900S
ro.product.device=SM-900S
Reboot and now apps like Gear Calendar, Quick settings, Strava...etc. should work.
Samsung Devices With Custom ROMs:
THIS PART REQUIRES ROOT AND EDITING SYSTEM FILES. IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS, SKIP THIS PART.!
Open your build.prop in any text editor. Root Explorer works well, or whatever you're used to using.
Change the "Samsung" in "ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung" to anything else. HTC, LG, asdf, anything is fine.
This stops the force closing. You're done!

I didn't make the APK, I just took it from the S5, so it should work. Maybe it doesn't work on AOSP roms. The only phones I confirmed it working on are the ones in the OP.
Can you edit your post to not quote the entire OP?

I was able to do the update on a Nexus 5 with an older version of the manager and then upgrading. Using 1.25 it paired then tried to start the update. The update only went about 4 percent before stopping. I stopped the manager on the Nexus, but this left the Fit in update mode. Installed 1.49 and tried to pair it again. It went through the update fine and the Fit rebooted. After that the Nexus immediately paired with it.
The only trouble I've been having is with the fitness app. It doesn't seem to actually pull any info from the Fit. When I go in to the settings and try to look at my profile it crashes.

Any idea if this will work w/ Moto devices? I have a Note 3 I can do the prelim on and then I want to get a Fit for my wife's Droid Maxx. I also have a Gear 2 Neo I can test w/ it, but as I understand they're different OS so maybe not a good test to see if Fit works without actually having one. If anyone else can try I'd appreciate it.
Edit: NVM, I had forgotten the Fit doesn't have the mic and speaker. WHHHHHYYYYYY Samsung??!?!!! It would have been the first smartwatch suitable for females who don't want the big bulky bezel, except you gimp it by not giving it the handy feature my wife was actually interested in. The other ones are too big. Heck I would have gone w/ a Fit myself if it had it as I'm still on the fence on keeping my Neo.

It should work since Moto phones are pretty close to stock. Yeah the Gear 2 is too big.

I would like the freedom of buying a non-Samsung device.
I been trying with no luck to get the Fit working on CM. Everytime I install and open it just force closes. Gear 2 manager at least opens, but not fit manger.

@alucard_xs - it should automatically have SMS notifications enabled. It might be called "Messaging".

according to the (german) manual you can update the device via the kies software through a usb connection to your pc. If that is true, you can skip the part where you temporarily need a samsung device to update the gear fit. i am due to receive my device so i cannot test if it works, but anyone else could do that.

On Xiaomi *mi3 gear fit works without problems, but only version 1.25 gear managment. Version 1.49 does not work. application sees the bracelet but can not connect to it. When you first start fit manager 1.25 update is made gear fit. Do not know why version 1.25 works without problems and version 1.49 is not it?

I'm getting a gear s Friday and I was wondering how it does on it compared to the note 4. Is it all the same features or different.
What do u mean? The gear is an accessory that pairs with the note, it has some standalone capabilities but works better while paired with a galaxy phone

As long as your Note 3 is updated to 4.4.4, and you update all the samsung apps, it should be identical. My Note 3 is much happier with the Gear S (and visa versa) since AT&T rolled out the 4.4.4 update. 4.4.2 was a little odd - S Health no sync, no replies to emails on the Gear S. But 4.4.4 is all good.
O Ok. So I have to install the 4.4.4 rom to work properly
i have the note 3 on tmobile and just looked and 4.4.2 is the latest version.
4.4.2 is the latest as they were rolling out 4.4.4 a few weeks back yet it had problems. I asked ATT yesterday and there is no ETA when they'll be rolling out 4.4.4 again... yet may be soon.
It pretty much depends on which Note 3 you have.
I even have the unbranded international Note 2 on 4.4.2 and absolutely everything works together as it should. Others (like above mentioned) have the Note 3 and not everything works 100%.

On the OFFICIAL lollipop release, it is possible. That being said, official release is only on the Note 3 9005 international, AFAIK its not available on the AT&T or Tmobile Note 3. I have tried several lollipop roms on the Tmobile version and the Gear Manager doesn't work, it only seems to work on the official release. Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

Does anybody else has such problem?

Hello everyone,
Glad I found this thread because I found myself having some doubts after getting this combo and today, I am not sure if gear s will in the future be able to be used at 100% with a note 3.
My decision about buying gear s was made upon the confirmation from Samsung store that gear s was 100% compatible with my loved note 3.
After a few days of usage, the first thing I've noticed is that the weather on the gear s does not update at all if I do not use the phone. Like if the phone remains on standby, the weather "service" does not run (sort of). My daily update is done at 8 AM and if the phone is all the day long on my suitcase, at 9 PM the weather date on the gear s is the same one from 8 AM.
If the phone is used/awaken, it updates. My question: Why do I need info on the gear s that for some reason to be updated, I have to check it first on the phone, right? Both devices do not make usage at all of the parameters we are able to setup such as "1 hour" update/refresh. The option exists but it is like if Android "sleeping mode" takes over any setup that we could choose.
Another issue seems to be that using this device with kitkat can be allot different of using it with lollipop. I am not able at all to compose or reply emails on gear s. I could swear that I've seen it be done on a review on youtube but I was not figuring out why I could not do it ... okay, figure it out, I use kitkat, not lollipop (at least, yet).
I've give it a try to the new ROM posted on XDA with lollipop (n9005xxugbnl8) and everything was going fine (could reply and write emails) until I start to receive an "unified deamon(EUR)" crash.
I've googled allot and it seems that this type of error is more common than I thought even in other devices not from Samsung. I've tried all the recommended procedures (clean data, cache, restart phone ... whatever), nothing seems to workout. This error is related with weather services, I even tried to change the apps (apks) on the phone but with no sucess so far. I had to role back to kitkat. Rather a missing info on weather than a regular crashed app.
I've shared with you my small problems so far. Thought about to return the gear S to Samsung store based on the lack of information their team had about the devices compatibility but I just love the gear s in spite of all and I am hopping that maybe the official lollipop release could solve this minor issues.
So far this is the most complete smartwatch in the marked and I love the design and concept. I will follow this thread to find out if someone have the same issues and keep you posted about any new or solution I may find too.

My experience is such:
I am on leaked Official Lollipop ( N9005).
Unfortunately I have this bugs:
- Gear S do not BT reconnect to Note 3 after I lose connection - sometimes Gear S is disconnected, but non Note 3 I have status BT connected ???
- Weather on Gear S do not work - On watch I get message - allow actualizations visibility on mobile phone - if I try to do it, I get Unified daemon ( EUR) stopped
All other works perfectly including e-mails compose.
I hope that official Lollipop will be OK

the version of zwegnet was kind of working pretty good but i could not reject calls, or send a reject message.and media control was broken too.
the one from koalala gave me a crash every time someone called me and i did not get the calling notification.

and on page 4 somebody started talking about a htc one m8. and that was pretty much my salvation!
It is version 1.98 of GFM but it works like butter!

How to get it working?
I have Samsung Galaxy SIII (I9300) - Android 5.1.0 but I think that this solution may work for anyone, not only SGS III users (with custom rom).
If you did everythink as well as in the manual and your Gear Fit Manager crashes when it try to connect with your smart brand, you have to do only one thing: edit your build.prop.
Change "ro.product.manufacturer=..." to "ro.product.manufacturer=HTC", than reboot your phone and its done. You have working Gear Fit Manager with non-samsung device (or samsung device with custom rom) on Lollipop.
This idea is not from my head. I read it somewhere here on xda, but I think that its better to have this instructions on this page. Hope it will help you and sorry for my bad english.
works perfect for my lg g3. I just want to make my own watches but I can't see how to crop or do anything.
2 questions: will this same method work for the Samsung Gear 2 and secondly, do I have to be rooted to do this? I already had my Gear 2 connected to my HTC One M8, but as you all know, once it updated to lollipop, it stopped behaving correctly. Thanks in advance.

I follwed the steps below, managed to upgrade the firmware (R350OXA0BNG2) using ODIN and that seemed to work fine. Only when I install the apk file do I come across a snag.
1.78 installs OK but crashes when it opens
1.86 does not install
1.98 does not install
I have tried installing them in order but same result
Anyone got any ideas?

Hello, I have a Motorola Turbo. I received the Gear Fit Last week when I was on Android 4.4.4 and the gear fit worked perfectly.
After upgrading my phone to lollipop 5.1 yesterday the gear fit stopped working, the gear manager wouldn't open anymore.
After downloading the lollipop patch offered on here (lollipop-gearfitmanager.apk)
Everything works but the notifications and even when someone is calling it doesn't respond.
My gear manager software does connect and recognize my gear fit though via Bluetooth.
The gear fit manager version is 1.49.0409 off of the apk listed above.
The software version of my gear fit is R350XXU0BNE5
Are there updates that will make this work again as it did before?

There is an open source alternative to the Gear Fit Manager called OpenFit , "with hopes that it will provide most/all of the features provided by the Gear Fit Manager app and possibly even more. That being said, this application is in early development and lacks a lot of features."
But it works on lollipop 5.1 just great. I highly suggest OpenFit, and the developer is very nice and responsive.
Yesterday SHealth app became available for all android devices to prepare for Gear S2 to work on non-Samsung devices.
It works also with Gear Fit. If you have a non-Samsung device, you need to change a ro.product.brand line in build.prop to:
Code:
ro.product.brand=samsung
Now after reboot you should see all compatible devices in Accesories tab in SHealth. You need to have Gear Fit Manager installed and connected with your Gear Fit.
I have 5.1.1 stock Sony Xperia Z ROM with Gear Fit Manager from here and SHealth app always shows 0 steps in pedometer tab and doesn't get Sleep/Heart Rate data, but received weight info from Gear Fit. Maybe it will work on non-Samsung devices with another version of Gear Fit Manager or another ROM, you can try and write here.

What do you mean? If you don't see Gear Fit on Accesories list, try to change ro.product.manufacturer to samsung, ro.product.name and ro.product.device to zeroltetmo.
I have this configuration and Gear Fit is on the list:

Ok, I saw all accessories but the fit manager doesn't pair with FIT now.
I get back to my original build.prop.
Hope Samsung will release an update soon for Shealth that allow us to fully sync with FIT.

Hi are you able to get health data synced from gear fit to non-samsung phone?
since samsung a3 does not support gear fit , i root my phone and modify the build , and it able to use it and sync with shealth..

are you using gear fit with A3 with a full functionality?
No issues whatsoever? (I.e. It connects automatically etc...)

Maybe this happens because you do have a Samsung phone.
Do you still have TouchWiz ROM?
I tried but it fails on my OnePlus.
Can someone else try with a not-samsung device?
i have a htc one mini 2, s healths works with my phone, but i cant connecting between my gear fit and s health

it does not support automatic connect and gear fit play store apps.

yea i using stock touchwiz rom , but a3 does not support gear fit
so i use the patch version on xda , modify build.prob samsung to blablabla
TouchWiz is the secret.
I think this sync will never work on any other ROM unless samsung release a fix.

I had a look with google but the answer is NO.
Neither here on XDA. It seems it works just on samsung devices.
Has anyone gotten the Gear Fit to connect to the Nexus 5 on Android 6.0? I've tried everything I can find and nothing is working...

My gear fit has a default language of Chinese and though open fit allows me to connect my nexus 5 w/ marshmallow, it does not switch the language to English like the official gear fit manager does.

I was thinking I need to add this feature. I will try very hard to get it in, as my last feature.. How do I go about changing the language via Gear Fit Manager? I need to do it to reverse engineer the packet. thanks

but flashed DBT-R350XXU0BOA2 before. been testing it for a few minutes. im on G3 fulmics 4.1 MM rom. it was not pairing before at all.

I want gear fit maanger for marshmallow , i have moto x play in which gear fit manager has stopped working and openfit is not connecting to my gearfit watch
I am also interested in Marshmallow. I am currently attempting the above method, it won't work on the firmware I'm running (0BNE5), but I will be trying Odin later today.
