Rooted device and private mode is working - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi,
I just got my device today and rooted it.
I saw in the forums that if I root my device and trip knox, private mode will not work.
Not sure if this is still happening but my private mode works just fine after rooting...

What method did you use to root your phone?

The standard cf-auto-root.
I'm not sure if this helps but I did all the settings and played with private mode before I rooted it. Maybe it created all the files it was needed so after the root and the knox trigger it didn't matter as it was already ran once... just a thought.

I've got my device yesterday from a T-Mo store. It already had the G900TUVU1ANCH version installed.
I've sat on my hands not to root it for few hours; I wanted to make sure there is no OTA update coming. In the meantime, I started to use the phone, played with the fingerprint scanner and the private mode - all while it is still unrooted.
After couple of hours, it was time I followed the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713950 for CF-Autoroot. After running the Odin file, my phone restarted and I was rooted (with knox tripped of course ) and ready to go.
I went back into the settings and turned on private mode, selected images to move to private, turned private mode off and the files were hidden. Turned private mode again and the files were there...
I'm not sure if others experience anything else with private mode but I assume that this is the expected behavior of private mode?

I also played with private mode before rooting.. Using the same method as you.. I just checked and it days unable to start private mode please try again.

I just took this snapshot showing my "custom" device with the private-mode icon at the top left... I just turned it on to be sure it is still usable.
Not sure why it worked on my device but it does...

That's weird.. I really have no intention on using private mode.. But I do hate that a feature isn't working lol.. Anyone else rooted and have private mode working?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

It might be due to the fact I didn't had to do the OTA and there might be something different with the pre-installed version?
Btw, was there anything else that didn't work after rooting? Besides the Knox flag 0x1?
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda premium

Says "failed to enable private mode. ..."
I never tried it before root so I'm not sure.
Sent from my rooted 'beaned' SM-G900T using Tapatalk Premium

hmm

Yeah, I thought everything would work being that I was able to successfully setup private mode, but when I open it and turn it on I receive that toasty message. ..
Sent from my rooted 'beaned' SM-G900T using Tapatalk Premium

I too can confirm my private mode is working after root

I DID NOT touch private mode before root and mine is working just fine.. I also used auto root. As you can tell Titanium Backup shows root access and the private mode notification is showing.. No problems. Is there a way to run a diagnostic or something similar on my device and on a non working device?

92drls,
Did you have to do the OTA upgrade? Or did you have the latest firmware already installed?

Same as mine...
So that might be the combination that works. For those devices that already came with the latest firmware (no OTA required) - the private mode works after CF-Auto root?

Mine came from the store with latest firm ware, but it gives me an error, and I'm rooted with CF

Yes u have to had set it up first for it to work before root thanks bro.

No, the updater will detect root. You will need to flash stock room

Mine is rooted too, but the updater seems to work fine. That is, it allows me to launch, appears to check for updates, and tells me my software is up to date. I'm on the stock ROM and rooted so that it wouldn't trip the counter. If the software updater was "seeing" my root, would it even go to the ATT server to check for updates?

Can you root the i717 Galaxy Note without a Computer?

I'm the proud owner of a Galaxy Note i717 but the limitations of gingerbread are driving me crazy....so the first thing I want to do is root and flash a different ROM problem is I'm without a computer ugh.
I came across a YouTube video showing how to root the other model without using a computer so I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution for the i717 model.
So is it possible to root the i717 galaxy note without a computer?
Help me out here guys any feedback is much appreciated....

in other words...You will need a computer and for a safety feature in case you soft brick or hard... you will have a need for a pc...computer.
do you have CWM on your device? like ranger stated below...no need to root to flash...

Honestly I would not attempt to flash without a pc handy...due to the saying
"ya never know"
Even though we have the same make/model devices....they are not the same... my GNote may not like a ROM as to yours might...like I trying explaining ... the computer being your safety net if something goes wrong....I would wait or find a friend that you can use a computer, but it is your call, it is your investment.
btw unless someone knows a way to put CWM on the device without a computer....I believe you will need a computer...
Since CWM is a custom kernel, you could flash it from the phone using the Mobile Odin app.
Edit: oops never mind -- you need to be rooted to use Mobile Odin. Sorry for the bad information.
I rooted one phone using the terminal emulator after downloading such and busy box to the SD card. But its harder than climbing Everest without oxygen typing those commands.

So I Bought a Galaxy note (i717) the charger port is messed up on the device. It will charge, but it wont allow any PC connectivity. I have searched google and xda for information how how to root this phone with out a PC (aka using an .apk like framaroot) and I can not find a viable solution. I have tried Z4Root and Framaroot and neither of them work. Do you know of any other ways to root my device with out a pc? If i dont need a Root to Flash Could you point me in the right direction to find that information I haven't put CWM on the device yet because I Cant Root so I cant MobileOdin ect.. you see the picture lol. Is it possible to use an Update.zip file? or use a formatted SDcard to flash it like I did to Flash NookColor1?

Apps not recognizing phone as being rooted. Help?

Gents (and ladies),
My phone is rooted, with vanilla 4.3 running. For a reason beyond my level of comprehension, apps are not recognizing the phone as having been rotted (with the exception of Notification Toggle).
I've got some screenshots attached showing the problems I'm encountering, which I'm hoping can get us started on working toward a solution.
If there's any other info you need from me, please let me know.
Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you so much in advance.
This may not even be your case but l know on the note 4.3 roms we had to go in developer options and make sure root access was set to apps and adb for root to function properly hope that helps you with your delima bro.

New update OTA status, any one installed yet?

Just checked got a 19 MB update after manually checking. Has anyone installed it yet?
Does it remove features, add features or security updates to prevent root?
If you don't know how to check:
1) menu button (left of the home button it doesn't light up till you touch it)
2) click "settings"
3) scroll down (run your finger toward the top of the screen) till you see system update.
4) select system update (I kind of recommend that you be on wifi or 4G before checking)
5) click update It should then check for an update and then download it and ask if you want to install.
If you are new and have not yet got used to rooting phone be aware that by installing it, that it may cause errors, loss of root, or even dogs to say meow and Cartman to be nice by installing it.

I rooted mine via Chainfires auto-root last Friday when i picked up my N3 and although it did change my Knox flag to 0x1 as reported by everyone else, I have not experienced any issues with restoring backups from TWRP.
As others said, there's nothing in Sprint's contract (that I'm aware of) pertaining specifically to root. The only time the Knox counter MIGHT matter is if you had to send it into Samsung directly for service. But then again, all of us know that rooting/modding our phones is an inherited/know risk taken by each user... or at least I hope this is true.

[Q] Sprint Note 3. Cant root this phone... Please help!!!

What I have: I have a Sprint Note 3. Model number SM-N900P.. It's flashed to some prepaid company called Red Pocket. I went to this company from PrePayd Wireless but Sprint cut them off and even though they PrePayd found out this information on the Feb 14th but they decided not to tell their customers like myself until the minute before Sprint pulled the plug and my number was trashed with no way of getting it back. This lost me a lot of money smh (I apologize for ranting)
What my goal is: I just want to root the phone so that I can flash CWM or TWRP and get CM Kitkat on the device.
What my problem is: I can not get the device root.. I believe this could be because i can not get my device to give me the MTP option.
What have I tried: I've tried using Orin with CF Root and I use Odin with a CWM and a TWRP .tar . I was going to add the SS. All of this resulted in me rooting my phone in recovery and it giving me the dead android guy. Its like it wont stick to the phone.
I tried Kingo Root and one click as well and its saying that. Kingo said its not connected.
One Click Root cant even detect my phone is plugged in.
Kies says its not compatible and it downloads Kies 3.
Kies 3 just sits on a screen that says my phone needs to be in MTP mode.
I have installed the Samsung drivers. I even installed a brand new copy of windows 7 ultimate on a brand new hard drive just so i could start from scratch with the drivers because my other hard drive wouldn't even recognize the phone. This one is recognizing the phone and I re-installed the driver thru Kies and they all installed. I don't know what else to do. Please help.
I apologize if this was on another thread i search kind of hard for this problem before i made a new post

I've already did this as my first initial post suggest. Kingo root won't detect my device. It's only says it's not connected. I have Kies 3 installed as Kies 1 said it was not supported.
