Something rattling at the top of the phone - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi everyone,
I just got my phone yesterday. I like it very much! But somehow I found out that if I hold the phone at the bottom portion and flick the top half back and forth, I can hear something rattling inside the phone. Even if I shake it side ways, I can hear it too. I made sure that it is not from the volume rockers, sim card, or camera lens. Can anyone confirm if this happens on their phone too? Thanks a lot!

Yeah that happens on mine too.
Not sure what that is.

After doing some research it seems to be normal that all do it.
It has to do with the auto focus of the camera.
If you start the camera and check you won't hear that rattle anymore.

Yea, agreed. Good research

same here, never noticed till now though ::silly:

Reply removed.

The S5's in the store all had this camera rattle. The better the camera, the more moving parts, which means more audible rattle.

Front camera went from clear to noisy

when i first got the phone i was amazed by the camera quality, also by the front camera since i use that to skype with. at first i was like, holy detail! now i played with it today, same lighting, and its got extreme noise. alot of color noise going on, even with a lamp in my face, direct lighting.
im trying to figure out, what happened, and why all the noise all the sudden.
anyone experienced this yet?
Same issue... Was wondering what happened

Same problem here.
Try this. Go to your main camera settings and adjust your ISO to 100 or 200. Sometimes if you have ISO set auto, it doesn't accurately adjust your settings. Remember, the higher your ISO (More light into the lense) the more grainy your image/pic.
Once you have chosen the correct ISO, then choose the front facing camera, that should help.

Did anyone ever figure out the cause? it just started happening on mine as well
still wondering why mine does it too
interesting. i forgot all about this thread.
iso set to manual 100/200 before switching to front still results in grain.
My lense makes a popping sound when focusing all the time. Guess it is just annoying more than anything, but never did it when I first got the phone. Kinda like u guys not having the issue when u got it, but sorry for being off topic.
Anyone else notice it? My phone fell out of my car the other day. Scuffed the back cover and got a hairline scratch on display. Figures I drop it when waiting on replacement otterbox.
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!
Might be becuz of all the tweaks done on the phone. Try taking a pic on stock. I also suffer from this and I noticed that cm10 takes better ffc pic than on a custom sense Rom.
Edit: it seems like the noise only appears during the live preview but upon taking the pic the color noise dissapears. Btw u can't adjust ISO for the ffc just main camera

[Q] Broken screen samsung galaxy s3

Hello everyone!
I've been searching across xda but haven't found quite my problem (pardon me if there already was a thread).
What happened is that I dropped my S3 and it fell right on screen, and now the screen is totally black. After looking better to it what happened I noticed that display in upper part of screen is broken, and I underline display so you don't confuse it with glass. There are 3 tiny lines visible easily and under bright light you can see that display foil is kinda cracked/shattered.
As I said, screen is dead and when i "unlock" it and pres with my thumbs in upper part, all kinds of colors shows all over display.
The phone function is still working, because when my friend called me, the phone rang but i could not answer the call due to unresponsive/ dead display.
Why I'm actually posting this thread is to ask you if there is some way which I could determine that ALL device functions are still operative (except display). Because if everything else is okay, I would consider ordering screen from ebay and changing it (as seen on youtube). But, if some other things are dead too, e.g. speaker, front camera, proximity sensor; I wouldn't buy replacement kit just to have half of damage fixed.
Also, if someone is familiar to it, how much would it cost to have it fixed in some random service shop (taking that only display is dead)
Thank you!
here is a video i made of the process of replacing the cracked screen. it will help a lot. 3

there is absolutely no need to revive all the threads about broken glass, create your own
Get a new LCD, or go and see one of those blokes who unlock phones.

Look, every time I find myself in a thread, your having a go at someone, back off yea!.
There's no need for the way you are day by day. Your irritable all the time for no reason.
The guy needs help for a specific reason, why stop him?
If you put as much effort into helping people as you do trying to piss them off and tell them what to do, you would be an elite mod by now.

Op needed help 3 months ago, if you look at the date. this guy is just posting his video in every single cracked screen thread, which is unnecessary.
and thanks for the advice, but I think I won't take it

Those always worked great on my Nexus 5. Not so much on any of the Samsung's devices I've had.
Amazing! Best of both worlds. This is the best overall phone in the market right know.
I noticed that as well. I was really looking for that also. Surprisingly the Nexus 5X does not have it listed.
btw nexus 5x does have it too

I'm very happy about this. Ambient screen is nice for non-critical events, such as G+ or FB notifications, but nothing screams "Missed Call" or "New Text Message" like a nice bright blinking LED.
I hope they allow you to disable it. I'm not a notification LED fan. I haven't had one since my G3 and that was over a year ago now.
Led notification control can be whatever you want with gravity box. I just assume the majority of xda users will be rooting, so even in it doesn't do anything by default, we can make it work. Pulsing or steady.
Anyone have video or photo of its location?

My understanding is that it *comes* disabled. The only difference between it and the LED in the N6 is that you *can* access it (using LightFlow, or whatever) without rooting.

That's good I've never liked the annoying flash of the LED when you get a notification. I prefer the assignment l ambient display because its not subtle and less annoying when you ignore it.

Sweet thanks for the info, it was the most logical location.
What a welcomed return!! I was never a fan of ambient display.
Notification LED's are the best when setup. Adjusting the speed, color, duration makes me be able to take a quick glance at my phone and know what's going on without having to touch it.
Why would they NOT list it? Wtf

Clicking/rattling sound from back camera lens

Hi all. I just want to be sure that my 'problem' is not a hardware issue. I bought Honor View 10 five days ago and from day one I can hear some clicking or rattling noise when I tapp the top back side of my phone or when I put it on the bed for example (nothing to hear when I shake the phone). Sounds like something is loose near the back camera or in that top back area around the camera (maybe I'm wrong). When I tapp it near the middle or the bottom of back cover, everything is tight and without that sound.
I've read on other forums that this issue is common and that sound is from camera auto focus, lenses etc, maybe vibration motors or power and volume button. But I just wanted to see if anyone else has this 'problem'. And if this is not common, what do you think I should do? And, just to clarify, everything is working without any problems, just that annoying sound.
I get the same from my V10 here.
I guess we will have more people with it...
Nope. nothing like that in mine.
I checked the other one in shop and does the same but am not sure if it's only related with certain badge...camera seems to be fine but in instagram it just won't focus. ANyone with the issue?

maybe try getting it replaced.
The camera has optical image stabilisation, that's what the rattling is from, turn the camera on and do the same again and there will be no more rattling.

my honor view 10 also has that little noise when hit by the part of the camera, is normal as I see no ??
Yup. Same with my view 10. The top part made a lil noise when you tap it but it's normal. I heard the same thing on other phones before too.
Yup, I hear the clicking sound on my Honor View 10 when I tap near on the back. I had the same "issue" on my P10 Lite, but everything works fine, so there's no reason to fear.
Hey, nothing to worry about. It's not any issue at all or any kind of manufacturing defect. The sound comes because of camera and its lens function. You can observe such sound in other smartphones too especially when you open camera app and close it or capture something. It's more audible on DSLR cameras whereas smartphone camera it's less. So don't get bothered about sound and enjoy capturing beautiful photos with your Honor View 10.
I have this in my aswell, my guess is either the camera as some of you mention, OR it could be the vibrator thingy i guess..
I have it too. I tried to press the volume button and tap the back like that, but sill had the noise. Later I opend the camera app, zoomed and tapped the back like that. It had a different sound. It has to do something with the zoom function, because of the lenses. I think it's normal. The lenses have to move, that's the optical zoom.

Here We Go Again, Return Time!!

Just received 2 hours ago, the first game I tried (Hill Climb Racing 2) and noticed I couldn't press the brake, like the screen had a dead spot. Sure enough I download Muti Touch Test and the display is missing many touches, but it's inconstant. Factory reset hoping for a fix but no dice. Thanks Google for sticking us with a LG display. BTW, I haven't seen the 3 XL but I can tell you for sure it does not look as good as a Sammy panel, my wife's XS looks way better. I would say it looks more like my V35, not bad at all, just not spectacular. Pissed because I had to send back last years P2 because of issue and here I go again!
Setup a return and I have to pay a $35 restocking fee so they can fix the device. Nice

How can you possibly be expected to pay for something under warranty?!
I just received my pixel 3 an hour ago and it has a small blemish on the back before I pulled off the plastic. I'm thinking about swapping it.

It's nonsense, he bought a G7 too. Or only? As for you definitely swap it if it bothers you. Too expensive to be obsessing over a flaw. Unless it gives it character which might increase the value!

I haven't seen the 3XL display but it's a Samsung panel and it did just get the highest ever score by Displaymate for what's that worth. I am assuming the XL looks as good as my wifes iPhone XS or my brothers Note9. I can tell you the P3 I have has a display that is not on that level, it's good don't get me wrong, just a half step off, more like my V30 that I fell the display is a solid 8+.
Update, I called Google back and got a rep that took the restocking fee off. Offered to exchange but I didn't like the options. Send mine in and then wait for a replacement to be shipped, could take 2 weeks or advance replacement, credit hold on my card and ship now. Feel it's better to wait for a possible BF deal and go with the XL>

This is actually incorrect - it's been proven that most of those 'scratches' can easily be brushed/wiped off.
I literally just watched a Tech Youtouber (Erica something or another) do this exact test, with her keys, and she gets rid of every single mark on the phone, despite scratch it with her keys.

After seeing this video, I cleaned my phone which was blemished right out of the package and now I'm regretting the phone I just ordered for replacement. Google was very kind and helpful though. I'll get the replacement device on a few days and send this one back even though it looks fine now lol.

Yeah, it looks like they phone isn't scratching, the softer objects are leaving behind residue on the phone's surface. Jerry Rig Everything briefly mentioned it in his video but never tried to clean off the marks.
