Wifi problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys!
I ran into a problem that bugs me for already 2 days. Yesterday my girlfriend's phone (S3) received an update. She was already on 4.3 so I do not know what the update was for. What happen after the update was downloaded and installed was that she couldn't access internet using wifi anymore. Mobile data seems to work, but wifi doesn't.
I told her to try the following but nothing changed:
1.Restart the phone.
2.Forget the network and reconnect.
3.Download "Wifi fixer" (when she did this she told me she accessed google...but then nothing worked anymore)
It is weird because she can access 192.169.0.1.
She also tried to connect to another wifi and she told me same thing happend so I assume is something about the phone.
This problem really starts to bug me a lot because I tried to search for a sollution but I found nothing that could fix the problem.
I am waiting for your suggestions.
Have a nice day,
Ilie Mihai

Usual steps to try: clear cache in recovery, factory reset, flash firmware with odin.

Could you, please, guide me on how to clear the cache in recovery before I do anything else?
Thanks for your reply,
Ilie Mihai
UPDATE: Okay, I figured it out how to enter in recovery mode...I'll try that and I'll let you know if it worked.

By the way...I forgot to mention. Factory reset is not quite possible at the moment since her computer is away for some repairs and she cannot access one for a while.
I am still waiting for more suggestions.
Thank you!

Do you get an IP, DNS and default route? Does ping or any other service work?
Does she maybe use a firewall?
There are many things to try out before simply resetting the phone.

A reliable data connection could not be found

This comes up when I try to synch my google account after recovering with Odin. Any ideas on a fix? Ive tried restarting, wiping data/cache and redoing the recovery.
--EDIT--
Sorry I should also mention that other data connectivity works perfectly fine. I can surf the web send MMS and all that. But Market/Talk/Gmail anything google wont work since I cant sych
Go to Settings -> Privacy, and run a Factory data reset.
Have u changed your gmail password recently? If yes, maybe you have entered the wrong password on your device?
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Factory reset fixed it, thank you. I'll have to try flashing the lite rom later but at least now while Im at work my phone isn't crippled anymore, thank you very much!

Hello
This happened to me, if you go into xrecovery and factory reset your problem will go but before you do this sync your contacts so you don't lose them and back up your data with titanium backup
already did factory reset and almost all wipes but no data still.. someone?
I made a post about this a few weeks ago and got no replies either.
I am using the latest EWJET ROM from Eric, with an unlocked bootloader and i have two questions,
1) Is it possible i have physically damaged the phone to cause this problem? (I'm guessing it cant be the rom's fault if others have same problem with standard Gingerbread OS?)
2) If i do a factory reset, will i have to go back through the process of re-installing the custom rom and unlocking the bootloader?
Here's hoping i get some reply this time...
Scotspaul674, installing custom ROM via xRecovery or CWM, and flashing via FlashTool does not influence the status of the bootloader.
After full wipe you mast reinstall custom ROM. Do not reboot, or you will lose access to xRecovery.
i solved the problem like this, i went to the data settings and i put wcdma(prefered)/gsm as my default setting, then chose the correct acces point and chose the right network operator, try doing that maybe this will solve it
Ok, so I managed to get mine working today, I really didnt fancy doing a factory reset so I tried downloading settings via settings/Sony Ericsson, and it worked
Can't believe I didn't try this before.....
Good luck to the rest of you..

It's not from the SE site, just press menu on your phone and select settings, this will bring a menu up and at the top of the next page is a Sony Ericsson option. Click this then the only option shown (I think) will be download settings, select this and hopefully you'll be sorted.
Good luck
had the same problem after updating my xperia x10 to 2.3, so what I did was go to settings, wireless & network, mobile network and click data enabled. not sure what I did but where the incoming and outgoing arrows are there is a H above them now instead of 3G. but it seams to work ok.

[Q] cant download in cm9

Hi guys, I really need some help here
My problem is that I can't download anything on my carrier network. I can download on wifi. When I try downloading it just keeps saying "downloading" and after a long time comes up with the 495 error. This goes for apps in store as well as attachments and random files online. Everything else works as far as I can tell.it started when I flashed to cm9
I'm running cm9 nightly 20120413
(Don't really understand the following)
Baseband xxki4
Any help would be great, I don't know if its my firmware or my carrier that's the problem
I've done all the resets, wipes and clear cache, I've factory reset as well
Thanks

Go to your aps setting and fing google framwork service and Clear data and cache, force stop and restart your phone, that could sort out the problem, i had a simler problem and this fix worked for me.
Thanks for replying. I tried it and it doesn't solve my problem. I just get stuck on downloading in the Google play store and when downloading files. I've looked for a while and haven't seen anyone else with this issue.
Check with your carrier that you have the correct APN settings, sometimes the ones that are loaded into CM by default are incorrect or incorrectly entered, this would cause you to not be able to download while on mobile data but wifi would be unaffected.
Thanks, that was the solution. I didn't think to check because I already had internet working, just not downloading. There were several apn and it was on the wrong one. (I changed it from mobile to internet). Thanks for both your help

Flyer reboots trying to connect to WIFI (Honeycomb)

Hallo,
I need your help. I have a german Flyer wifi/3g with official HC OTA.
Once, trying to connect to WIFI, it rebooted. After that every time I tried to connect it went in reboot immediately after\at the stage <retrieving IP adress> I did hard reset and it has helped for some time, then the problem returned. I did not want to do a HR again and I put the Flyer through a series of reboots, changing some settings in connectivity section and that helped. But I have fear, that it can repeat.
Is there any solution? Has anybody heard of such behavior?
P.S. I saw the description of the same problem on one forum, but there was no solution for that. But it shows, that I'm not alone
Thanks in advance
Denis

[Q] My GS2 cant find my wireless router

================= SOLVED =======================
Hi this problem just happened 2 days ago. When I turn on my GS2 wifi it say scanning but returns nothing afterward eventhough I sit right next to my router. What I have tried are.
1. Try connecting to other router at my workplace still returns nothing after scan
2. Other people's phone doesnt have this problem with both router.
3. I tried open portable wifi hotspot from my GS2 and other people's phone can see it and connect no problem.
4. I install wifi fixer app from google play. It says wifi enabled but scanning still returns nothing.
5. There was no problem between my GS2 and both routers before. And I used it everyday.
6. Resetting router didnt fix it.
Any suggestion?
This is my phone info

Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband : I9100DXLPB

Since other people can connect to your router, it's probably a problem with your phone. Have you tried factory resetting? Maybe you can upgrade to jelly bean?

I'm exploring for other option but if it there is none then I guess I'll try with factory reset. In that case should I wipe cache too?

Yes, you should. You can also wipe dalvik cache. Or just nuke your phone, it will delete everything itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
