T-Mobile S5 on AT&T; LTE reception? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Those using the T-Mobile version on AT&T, can you comment on LTE reception? Is it the same as using an AT&T branded device, better or worse. Would love to hear the opinions of those few using G900T on AT&T.
Thanks

Looks extremely good to me. Haven't had any issues.

I use the phone APN.

Can you both comment on LTE speeds? There was another guy using the T-Mobile S5 on AT&T who said he was getting bad speeds. He was comparing it to his AT&T S5 right there besides him. I am trying to rule out if the device has any issues whatsoever performing on AT&T.

this is unlocked tmobile on AT&T LTE in Dallas Texas. Yes it's 6am and not as much traffic on the network, but the speeds are fine all day long.

That the best you can get? I can easily pull 50mbps+ down between 8-10am.

No HSPA for Tmobile only EDGE for the DNA because Tmobile has to use 1700Mhz instead of 1900Mhz for UMTS...AT&T will get HSPA
Yes it will work, BUT, only in a select few cities that T-Mobile has already switched to 1900mhz. So I'd check if your area has switched to 1900 first or you will be stuck on edge.

This is just not true. My speeds aren't anything special but they're totally usable. I will try more areas as they're still only testing it here in Houston.

I was using Solavei (MVNO of T-mobile) and in the video link below, you can see my SpeedTest.net test. From Houston as well, but towards the outskirts. My apt has about half the signal strength of surround areas for every carrier. Not a complete dead zone by far though.

My secondary phone is a Galaxy Nexus with the $30 prepaid plan from T-Mobile. I live in the Mundelein / Vernon Hills area of Illinois. If I run speed test on my Nexus right now (doing it as I type this) I get the following download results:
T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus:
1st Test: 7.2Mbps
2nd Test: 6.1Mbps
3rd Test: 4.2Mbps the third time. Kind of afraid of running it a fourth time the way it's going. . .
4th Test: 5.8Mbps
If I put my SIM card on the DNA (actually shows a H logo which I'm guessing is for HSPA) here are my results:
T-Mobile Droid DNA
1st Test: 3.7Mbps
2nd Test: 5.0Mbps
3rd Test: 5.4Mbps
4th Test: 5.0Mbps
Just for fun here are my results with Verizon LTE:
1st Test: 3.7Mbps
2nd Test: 3.162Mbps
3rd Test: 2.8Mbps
4th Test: 7.2Mbps
Normally I do get much better LTE speeds than that but that's what I got today. Just for the record, at no point did I change any settings anywhere, I just switched the SIM cards.

I was not aware they were switching to 1900 that is awesome, I might have stayed with unlimited Tmo that being the case...
"T-Mobile USA launched HSPA+ service in its 1900 MHz spectrum in 10 additional markets including Miami; Phoenix; San Francisco; Mesa and Tucson, Ariz.; Modesto, Oakland, San Jose and Stockton, Calif.; and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The new markets bring T-Mobile's 1900 MHz HSPA+ footprint to 15 metro markets including the previously announced markets of Baltimore; Houston; Kansas City; Las Vegas and Washington D.C."

my biggest problem with t-mobile wasn't speed, but building penetration. I work in a hospital and no one on t-mobile gets signal unless they are standing against an outside wall. Just doesn't cut it.

Yep... I got outgoing working by forcing the MMSC in GoSMS.
I actually know someone who can hard code the MMSC into an app for us if there is interest. Should send/receive and be JB AOSP based.

[Q] Unlocked my AT&T One, Popped in T-Mobile sim.... no data...

I'm getting text, but no data otherwise it seems. Nothing in web browser, etc. I see a 4G logo. My network info says:
Operator Name: T-Mobile
Mobile Network Type: UMTS
Service state: In service
Is it the mobile network type that is wrong? How do I change it?
EDIT: Seems like maybe I have to set the APN? Are these correct? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236735
Yes, when switching carriers you will need to manually add the APN if the SIM card didn't automatically do it for you.
I don't have T-Mobile, but that looks good to me.

He is likely in a T-Mobile refarmed area so 1900 MHz UMTS is available, while your area doesn't have this.
Go to http://airportal.de to get an (unofficial) view of where this is available.

The final answer is yes. The AT&T HTC One and the international/developer edition are exactly the same. Both support the frequencies used by T-Mobile. However, if you're not in a refarmed area listed here, then you won't be getting HSPA+. You'll get calls, text, MMS, but restricted to 2G as far as data goes until your towers are refarmed.
There are alot of threads on this topic in this forum as well as on the international/developer forums supporting this.
I had been getting speeds well over 20mbps on my Nexus 4... cracked the screen this weekend and connected an unlocked HTC One, from AT&T. I'm getting 5mbps now. I changed the settings as the OP did.
I am wondering if the speed reduction is due to the new phone, or because I recently switched from a "Unlimited" (with 5gigs of unlimited data) contract plan to a truly unlimited month-to-month "uncarrier" plan.
I made the change on Monday or so of last week, and within 24-48 hours was having poor/limited reception in my home and nearby, in my town, which I previously NEVER had issues in.
@OP- How did you go about getting yours unlocked? I'm trying to unlock mine to make it more valuable on craigslist and AT&T said that someone will get back to me by the 9th, which won't work for me.

I have an unlocked ATT branded i717 that I've been using on T-Mobile here in San Diego for about 2 months now...I'm using the modified T-Mo ICS Blaze radio. Due to the area of San Diego I'm in I am not in a refarmed network area so no LTE for me but my "4G" speeds are usually around 10megs down and 2 megs up at home which I'm pretty satisfied with.
Anyways to answer your question I'd refer to this thread.....

Yes you need to change your modem or else you you will be stuck using roaming on the 2G frequencies. I recommend the Blaze 4G UVMB1 modem on this page:

Of all the modems I have used, this one seems to be the best one. If something else works better let me know so I can try it for myself.

Its funny that I didn't need to change anything, all I did was, get the $30 dollar plan from wal mart, I call T-Mobile to help me out with activation and new number. And they ask me for my imei and that's it. My LTE runs right when it activated, everything is pure stock!

Refarmed are means tmobile is using same frequencies and towers as at&t, so the stock modem will work fine. Just input APN settings and go!

[Q] (Q) why am i getting att & tmobile's LTE on my vzw s4!

don't get me wrong I'm not complaining or anything, but i was told rightly by numerous forum members,
that a verizon wireless galaxy s4 was not capable of receiving any other LTE Bands aside from verizon wireless LTE,
and that it was an actual hardware limitation of the device which does sound logical,
so my question is do I have a special device.?
one thing I will say about this new GS4 is it's a refurbished model,
it was a replacement through my insurance program at Best Buy.
it's running 4.3 mk2, I'm receiving AT&T LTE via prepaid net10 sim, and also
T-Mobile LTE through a postpaid account sim.
so I'm thinking this was possibly a GSM model and was configured to run on Verizon's network when it got refurbished?
or do all S4's built after a certain date have the capability of receiving LTE from multiple carriers..?¿?

Our s4 is able to connect to all available networks but the sim cards have created the limitations...if you have tmo sim + correct APN installed it will work on that network... Should be about the same across the board...that's why its sim unlocked...with the right info and tools it should work on any network

I was always telling my friends if you was going to buy a phone used or outright to go with a Verizon model,
just because of it being sim unlocked,
and now with this news about the LTE radios it seems like Verizon would be your best choice for an all-around device.
I wonder if a new T-Mobile or AT&T s4, would get LTE from Verizon?

I think you mean the 6806, which I have. Mine has LTE, but being out in the country, I have a very poor LTE connection, and it seems to be very slow. And I do pick up both LTE bands from at&t as well.
