Apps That Are Safe to Remove From 4.4.2 [NC2] - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

Here is a list of apps that I have removed from the 4.4.2 (NC2) build using Titanium Backup and Root Explorer. There are more apps that can be removed but these are the ones I've deleted so far. Please keep in mind that you use your phone differently than I do so some of these may interfere with your daily use if frozen/removed. I have completely removed them but the best thing to do is to freeze them for a while in Titanium Backup or rename them with a .bak extension in Root Explorer to be sure that they aren't going to cause any issues.
Feel free to post any additional apps that you have removed and I'll add them to the list.
The following were removed with Titanium Backup:

I usually remove/freeze all that I can with Titanium Backup first then I use Root Explorer for the ones that I can't find in TiBu.

Did you freeze them or did you actually remove the apk? Only reason I ask is some of those might fall under the category of do not remove but you can freeze so we should probably clarify

I removed it and the GPS works fine, it is LocationServices in Titanium Backup.

Is it possible for a moderator airmaxx23 to keep a complete listing in the OP? I cam see this list useful in ROM development. Thanks.

Don't remove my magazine if you're using the email app. Here and now is safe to remove still

Thanks for putting this together. I usually freeze/delete all the bloat I can. I hardly ever use the Samsung apps anyways.

Wanted to drop a thanks as well. I LOVE ASOP and I hate bloat that I never use. I'm seeing some of my best battery life on 4.4.2 with all of the above removed.

I plan on removing some of these items from the system/apps folder of the de odex version before flashing to 4.4.2. I assume there shouldn't be any issues as I have done this with several other roms in the past?

You shouldn't have any issues, but I can't guarantee anything.

Just wanted to say thank you for this helped delete every thing from two N3's.

Just chiming in I did remove a lot of the mention apps from the system/apps directory of nc2 rom floating around before flashing from 4.3 and it works perfectly fine. thanks again for the list!

I removed a lot (but not all) of apps from this list using Titanium Backup. I noticed a few things that broke after doing so and was wondering if anyone knew which missing apps might be the culprit?
1: Automatic screen rotation seems be broken for all apps.
2: I have Battery Widget Reborn installed and the quick settings in the notification shade don't work anymore.

Here is a link to my list.

Hey thanks! I'll compare the 2 lists and try restoring the ones that aren't on your list.
EDIT: Restoring "Easy Settings" in the Titanium gave me back the ability to use use my Battery Widget Reborn quick controls again. Strangely, after rebooting, this program name doesn't appear in Titanium anymore.
Also, I have no idea what is causing my rotation to not work, and no one else is reporting this, so I don't know. I found 2 apps that I removed in Titanium by mistake because I don't any backup for them: media and imsqmisocket.
I may just hard reset at this point.

So I've been trying to track down the app that is causing rotation to break but I can't figure it out. I started fresh and each day I've been deleting around 15 apps twice a day until they have all been removed. Today I removed the last 12 apps from the list and rotation is still working so far.

Thanks for the reply. It helped me to know that I wasn't the only one having this problem. I found the solution today after some searching:

You might want to update your list as I don't think all of these are "safe to remove."

Anyone? Is there no guide? Link?
I am sure much of these are crap, and removing them can be great. But which?
First of all, most of those are /system apps, so I would not delete any of them until you first "freeze" them with TBpro and see if there are any adverse effects from doing so. much easier to defrost that to push back to /system/app and set permissions. If nothing happens, then you can delete.
I usually delete the picoTTS and keep the appwidgetpicker (this is when you longpress on home and your widgets pull up, it show Beautiful Widgets (19) rather than 19individual widgets.
Here (see below but the thread is a good read too) and here and here is a list of bloatware for your viewing pleasure (simple Google search pulled all these up btw). Almost anything with com...and is red in TB, you should leave it alone.
First off all the Standard Apps:
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex

[Q] do multiple launchers slow phone down?

I have upgraded to the stock jelly bean and I do really like it. However, I love switching out launchers and keyboards. Now my note has slowed down when unlocking and switching apps. Is this because of the several launchers? Or is it jelly bean? Help!
in advance, thanks
Rachael
I don't think launchers hog resources and slow the device down. Only one should be running at a time. You can check in your stats to see if more than one is. Under settings - applications swipe right to see what's running.
However launcher add-ons can. I noticed go launcher has TONS of cool additions and themes but seemed to kill my battery.
Are you rooted? You can always freeze the stuff your not currently using, and unfreeze when you want it. Also the stock update has a LOT of unwanted apps. Freezing and removing that crap can increase performance.
Thanks for the advice. I have rooted my device and tried to freeze several apps. I am not sure which ones I can freeze. Any advice?

You can always "feeze" an app, then use your phone for a day or 2 to see if anything doesn't work properly and unfreeze it to fix. Stay away from freezing system settings. There is very few you can get away with freezing. Some of the apps I froze you may or may not want to depending on what you do with your phone. Like for example I don't use allshare or quickpic but you might. I'll try to write down as many as I can remember and see are removed thru titanium backup. But I might of uninstalled some and cant remember.
I'll add to the list as I remember or freeze more or if someone add's in future posts.

"Potentially" Safe to Freeze/Remove Apps (SM-N900P)

I've started a thread for the community to establish what is safe to remove from our devices, any contributions or corrections are appreciated.
The first step I've taken in removing bloatware from the Stock DeOdexed ROM freeza provided (Thanks freeza!) is to... well, freeze what I feel is safe to freeze, while keeping the SM-N900P at as close to full functionality as possible. Decrease CPU/Memory usage and improve battery life.
WARNING: I have no idea what I'm doing. I've kept some apps out of the list because I don't know whether or not they're safe to be removed. I've had the listed apps frozen for days with no apparent issue. Some of these apps might be useful to you so be mindful of what you freeze. Some stock apps are not listed because I find them useful or necessary.
I will not troubleshoot your problems, replace your device or assist in repairing it in the event that you break it, it is your property and if you can't take care of it then it is you who is held responsible.
I recommend freezing apps, rather than remove them. Only remove apps when you're absolutely sure there will be no conflict.
With that said...
The device I'm using is a SM-N900P Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Root Access, TWRP Recovery, DeOdexed Stock ROM

The list is a work in progress, still freezing/adding apps...
Looks like development has started to take off!
TeamVeNuM's JellyBomb ROM looks amazing and I'll be jumping on it right away. The feature list is impressive and it comes pre-debloated.

I switched to Nova Launcher immediately after flashing the deodexed ROM and haven't experienced any issues.
There are a lot of apps listed here that could break stock fuctions/apps. Good to be cautious.

Looks good to me, though technically removing the ANT Radio Service, ANT HAL Service and ANT+ Plugins is the functional equivalent of stripping out the Bluetooth stack, except for ANT+ instead.
The ANT HAL source code appears to be open source for the curious.
I had already started working on freezing/removing apps after installing Nova Launcher. Experience from previous phones...S3 and Note II. I see there's more one the list that I've forgotten about. Thanks for the updated listing.

Do we have to be on stock deodex or will it still work on stock odex. I have root via dejavega and am afraid that stock deodex will trip Knox flags. If so then the hell with Knox. I even don't know why I'm so anal about Knox. I guess it's just the satisfaction of knowing that I can bypass their "enterprise security" lol but I'm beginning to feel it's not worth the hassle.

Thanks a lot for that list man. I've been uninstalling a lot of those apps with Root Uninstall. However, some apps on that list I was afraid to touch.
Would be nice if someone could put together an Aroma package that lets us strip down TW to it's most bare form w/o destroying necessary functionality.

May I suggest that using a spreadsheet would be very useful and easy on the eye. This SG2 list is just an example.

I'm slowly adding to the list, and removing some things that probably shouldn't be listed.
If I get around to it perhaps I'll put together a spreadsheet.

2016 LG V10 (VS990) Bloatware Removal List

I am NOT responsible for you destroying or messing up your device during bloatware removal.
Here is the official bloatware removal list that you can rely on to get rid of unwanted apps:
Regular Bloatware:
Audible
Slacker Radio
Verizon Location Agent (Significant Battery Life Killer)
VZ Messages
Caller Name ID
VZ Support and Protection
VZ NFL Mobile
VZ Cloud
Amazon Kindle (Unremovable/Does Not Remove)
Amazon Music (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Amazon (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Amazon Shopping (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Removable Without Root Bloatware:
MapQuest
If there is any more bloatware, let me know and I will be happy to add them to the list.
I reccomend to use the System App Remover app, which allows you to restore apps that you remove from the system.
Notice: When using a root removal tool, after you uninstall a root app the app itself tends to indefinitely crash. The fix for this is simply restarting your device.
Don't forget
VZ Cloud
DT Ignite
All of the Amazon apps
(note I am not rooted but these are all on the disabled list which should also be removable but do so at your own risk)

I also tend to not just freeze but remove just about everything I don't find of value as well. I like it super clean, super smart, super efficient While it can be a little temperamental with a couple of apps, it smooths out after a reboot and clean up.
REALLY digging this lovely, just purchased device. I like to root and optimize from the get go! I look forward to exploring!

If you removed bloatware from your phone tell me do you see any difference in speed and performance of your phone because I am not really sure is it worth trying. Thank you for replyes!!

Hi,
Here is my debloat solution.
DEBLOAT_Script_Samsung_A520F_7.0_Nougat_v1
I use it with TWRP recovery.
More speed or performance doesn't matter for me. But I have more space and better battery.
Anyoine maybe got a "save-list" which Bloatware could be deactivated via package disabler pro? I have no root access (KNOX warranty....) so i could only deactivate.

Your script includes MM AND N
first thing u need is ROOTED DEVICE.
as far as i know, deleting some of system app will not harm your device. i have tested it with my a3.
i deleted all knox app, all samsung stock app which i dont need, unused google things like hangout, google app itself, google search. u can also delete Galaxy Apps, but when you want to update the app which gave you a notification for an update, u cant.
i deleted it, because i dont need it. many, there are so many useless things from samsung, and im done with it.
for a safe step, u can 'of course' delete :
1. daydream
2.screensaver
3.weather
4.video
5.knox
6.secure folder
7.all samsung healthy apps
8.live wallpaper
9.themes
10.my samsung
11.file explorer
and many.
after i rooted my a3, i deleted almost 200mb bloatware. and it (dont know for sure) doesn't give any differences on speed, performance, or battery life. just faster when u open apps section on phone setting
sm-a520w oreo rooted and cautious debloat
Here's my list. Obviously you will have to make up your own mind as to what you want. I am waiting for hades to be fully functional on my lame "w" variant.
I did twrp, magisk and INSTALLED IN RECOVERY the debloater downloaded from magisk. Still running pretty much everything I used to such as email, playstore and phone/messaging and a game.
Installed a terminal emulator to run the module... called... terminal emulator but was told to try termux. Get Termux if you prefer larger text. Not a power user by any means so both work great for me.
I don't think you will want to uninstall much more than 3 or 4 apps at once. I just knocked off families like the knox clan, facebook clowns but for google i knocked them off in pairs so they could watch themselves get eaten. My first successful root involved titanium and I just went nuts and was not rebooting and by about the 20th app my screen did some neat swirly effect and I think I saw the screen throw files at me. Then I got a message that root was removed. Oh well.
Don't be signed into anything that you're uninstalling might be important. If you're on the W variant you'll notice 2 programs not listed with FIDO in the name. Be careful because I got locked out deleting one or two of those and it probably was also a bad idea having a pin on the lockscreen because that was most likely what I damaged. Luckily I easily fixed it in twrp. Just do the obvious ones first if you are new.
You will see two Sim Services if you go to remove it but I only did one. I picked the first one and left the one underneath it. They will be numbered different on your screen unless you do it in the same order as me, which you won't. So, when I did it they were 66 and 67. I chose 66 and did a reboot. Yeah the other one is on the list in the terminal still, but I don't get the icon anymore anywhere so I was rather pleased and just left it like that for now. It is now seen as sim toolkit in your apps in system view. I don't want to even talk about it in case it hears me and puts an icon in the app drawer.
What did I notice? Phone is definitely a little bit quicker. By a little I mean you may not notice if you use animations. RAM is definitely happy with the weight loss and needs a new wardrobe. It sometimes boots up around 2 but will rest around 1.5 if idle. It never did that before and obviously this device is not being sold and used properly with all this crap on it and when you don't take these measures, well there ain't much room for more crap so might as well get an S9 and abuse that sucker until it runs worse than a device years younger. I will add more as I find out what exactly my plans are and more importantly after fully understanding what I am removing. If you want to follow someone's list that somehow has so much removed it doesn't make sense... it's because they have apps to use in place for what they want. If that is appealing just tell me what app you crashed and burned on and when you're sick of 7 or so fixings grab a custom ROM
Keep lock screen security off and sign out/detach yourself from apps as much as possible. You can delete the keyboard with a current working one but I put it back as the message app lost smiley faces
I use Virgin and deleted their useless crap. Some weird rogers stuff I knew was there but a little old for a recent update...?
Encrypted Sim? I hope not. Do Enterprise SIm/Vpn together and power off. Take out your SIM and power on. I just waited until it was done the 30-60 second warm up and put the SIM back in and carried on. If you don't do this you'll want to do it when the phone reboots and chokes and.... just take it out.
Some apps will downgrade and need to be uninstalled (like they should be) in your apps after reboot and others may linger in the debloater. Just do'em again.
Not the order I did but as it was exported and from 1 and 2 menu options
You can uninstall Dictionary NOT User Dictionary. Settings will not function at all. Instant fc. User Dictionary can be disabled though. I am sure it can be done but other apps not listed here like contacts most likely need to go with it.

Is there a way to debloat it without a script.. maybe an app like package disabler. I upgrade package disabler but it doesnt work anymore. I use oreo stock no root...

I just helped my mother disabling an awful lot of bloat. Seems like I lost the battery section in Settings along the way. I still think it's worth it to be rid of the whole CM thing. I made a shortcut to the battery optimization via Tasker and I'm now looking to do the same for background processes.
Edit: It appears I disabled com.samsung.android.sm.devicesecurity by mistake. Now I have everything but the ****ty CM app optimizer and can forget about the shortcuts. Perfect!
Now I only have to figure out why I'm getting "All apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked or not installed"-popup when booting. If it is home screen related it might have something to do with me removing a default app which used to show up in the farthest left slide of the screen. Never paid any attention to it so I'm pretty clueless as to what it may be.
