[Q] GSAM root companion just bricked my M8! - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I installed the GSAM battery monitor root companion. When it asked me to reboot I pressed reboot. Screen then froze and then went black when I hit the power button. Phone is now dead and unresponsive. No lights when plugged into the charger. Sound does play when phone is connected to the computer, and shows in device manager as Android Phone under Other Devices and HTC One_M8 under Portable Devices, which makes me think I can bring it back, but so far no luck. :crying: Phone is rooted and s-off.

Phone finally restarted after what seemed like an eternity. I was pressing combinations of the power and volume buttons, and I'm not sure if it was something I did or if the phone just finally rebooted on its own. I wasn't completely freaking because the phone was still showing as HTC_One_M8 in device manager, and not QHSUSB_DLOAD or something like that, but in any event that was pretty scary. GSAM root companion tells me it's now property installed. I've seen at least one other post in the reviews for the app of something like this happening to someone else, so I don't think it's just me.

Next time you brick, hold vol up and power for 10 seconds with phone unplugged. Then either power on or hold power and vol down to enter boot loader. This works best when not plugged in.

Thanks. I was trying to remember the key combo for a simulated battery pull, and I guess power+volume up is it. I think that's what I was doing when it finally restarted.

[Q] Can't get into download, hardware locked?

First of all, I'm not sure if my Vibrant is "hardware-locked" or not - the battery has a date of 8/25/10 printed on it, the sticker behind the battery says "10.09." Either way, I cannot get into download mode. The phone was purchased 1 week ago today. I was simply attempting to disable the voodoo lag fix (using bionix 1.3 rom). I have tried every combination of getting the phone into download mode that I can find - is it possible? I sometimes think it's close to working because during the process a window on my computer pops up that says "hardware not installed correctly" which to me means that I was close. Someone please tell me if it's even possible to get my phone into download mode - it will start up, do the samsung galaxy animation, then go to black screen with the bottom buttons lit up. Thank you for any help you can provide - it makes me ill that I spent $500 on this 1 week ago and am now faced with a complete brick.

yes, when i rooted it, i used 1-click
Try this:
Take battery out
Put battery back in
DO NOT TURN ON PHONE!
Plug in USB
Wait for the green battery screen
Hold vol+ and vol- at the same time
Hold power
When the battery screen goes black, let go power ONLY.
I had a HW locked phone and this method allowed me to get into DL mode--still couldn't get into recovery, but at least I could use ODIN. Was a null point as the phone is bricked and a new one is on its way...
When you say a new one is on its way, did T-Mobile exchange it under warranty even though it was rooted?

If the above doesn't work.
Plug in USB to PC only
Insure Phone is off
Hold in Vol + and -
Plug in USB to Phone Holding Vol + and -
Release Vol + and -
Walla you are in Download Mode
Neither of these methods worked. what are the chances of t-mobile performing an exchange for me if all else fails?
you could try this too, it worked for me.
remove battery and put it back in.
plug in usb
hold vol up, vol down and power button.
when you see the vibrant home screen, keep holding the three buttons until the screen turns dark.
let go the power button and vol up but keep vol down pressed, you should be in download mode.
hope this help.

Since we all seem to have our own variations of this method, I can tell you the one that worked for me 99.99% of the time on the first try when I was stuck at the Phone ! Computer screen.
1) Remove battery
2) Hold Vol - and Power
3) Insert battery while holding these buttons
4) Plug in USB if it works.
Some have reported T-Mo swapping the device due to the inability to access download/recovery mode, but it doesn't seem to be something they will regularly do. Others have been successful by using the inaccurate GPS issue to get a replacement. Specifically by insisting it is not just inaccurate, but downright non-functional.

Yea...I tried relashing the stock rom using ODIN--for 4 hours over and over. It said "successful" in ODIN, but the phone was toast (would go past S boot screen then nothing. Just walked into TMO, said it "just would not do anything" with a feigned puzzled look and after a amateur cursory inspection the rep. just did his thing on the computer and a new phone is being sent to my house via UPS.

[Q] think the latest update .14 (2.17.2012) killed my Prime

I downloaded the new firmware, said install, and the device reboot.
I got the Android guy with the spinning box in his chest and then it reboot again and I got the blue line going across. All normal so far. Then before the line got all the way done the screen went black. So I waited, and waited, for about 15 minutes and got nothing.
Plugged tablet into power, the light in the power button came on red for a couple minutes then turned green as the battery was fully charged when I did the update.
PC doesn't recognize it when I plug it in to USB either.
So I pushed power button - nothing.
I held power in for a couple seconds like doing a cold boot- nothing.
Held power in for 10 seconds - got a vibrate but nothing else.
Held vol down + power for 10 seconds, same thing, vibrate only.
Tried little reset button on side - nothing.
Tried doing all of the above again only holding everything longer - same results.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on what to try before calling Asus?
Edit: My PC does recognize it. I checked in Devices and Printers and it's listed as APX. Still not sure how to proceed though.
Edit 2: It's the same issue as here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492551
Also, I installed the APX drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
and now it shows up in device manager as Asus Ttansformer Prime APX Interface.
Edit 3: Well it looks like I might have to try waiting for the battery to die, at least according to http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/transformer-prime-general-discussions/12209-possible-bricked-update-solution.html
Wonder how long that will take with a full charge?
Wow I could have wrote your text. Virtually the exact same thing that happened to me. I hope someone has an answer that fixes our problem.
I read the info on the one link about letting the battery drain. Pretty tough to do when your unit won't even turn on. What will it take 2 weeks or so to drain? maybe a month. This is ridiculous!

call up asus. and ask them for the factory image you can flash via APX mode... that can help you fix things...
Well I called Asus and explained what happened. They had me do the Vol down+power thing, and when that didn't work all they could do was set up an RMA. The guy didn't know what APX mode was.
Had the same problem. Followed the hard reset procedure by pressing Vol Down key and then holding down Power key. Held them for a good 20 to 30 seconds and nothing was on the screen. Let go and a few seconds later the Wipe Data option appeared.
I let it timeout w/o choosing to wipe data and then the device when into a normal boot cycle and is operating fine now.

I've tried that several times with no results, other than a vibrate. I've held it until the vibrate and let go, for 30 seconds and let go, for a minute, 2 minutes...
Maybe our updates failed at different steps. I'll give it a few more days then RMA it.

Any advice would be apreciated

Need some advice please
Any Flyer member who can advice me please?
Buyed a WIFI Flyer 16Gb Gingerbread stock no rooted turned on and suddenly turned off and got stuck in black screen (with some light in the back) vol down + power, nothing.
battery has 100% charge, but red led turned on and off ocasionally.
Any advice how to revive it would be greatly apreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Soft reset - Hold down power button only. Keep holding until tablet resets. You should know when this happens. You can't bring it up in bootloader/recovery (down vol. + power), until it's first actually turned off.
Does your PC recognize a device being plugged in when you connect

Thanks for your replies:
It didnt work pressing only vol dow for a while, or presing only power button, it never rests.
Just behind power button a green mini led is turned on now all the time, probs started when removed back to insert sd card.
Tooked off to make some tests but now still nothing...
If connecting to PC nothing happens...not detected...no asking for install drivers
Any other advice?
Thanks in advance!

Take off back cover... Remove SD card... Try to reset again, power btn only, hold down 20 to 30 secs., don't use volume btn.
Nothing happens
i would suggest trying to globatron's attention. if anyone on this board would know what to do it would likely be him

(doesn't make sense to me) A green led can't show unless the tablet is plugged into a power source and the battery actually is 100%...
If yours is a stock unit with a stock rom (and isn't defective), I would suspect a low battery condition that can't reset/reboot for lack of power...
Suggest you plug it into the wall and try the reset procedure again, and if still a failure, (maybe you can get some help from globatron or) call HTC.
...and then again, as I've read in other threads (that you've also seen), maybe all that's needed is a battery disconnect & reconnect. - Hope you get those pics, and if so... make it a last course of action, as you'll have no warranty if you do it.
Thanks.
Update:
I left computer connected to Flyer all night, and the day after it was turned off, then unplugged from PC and plugged it again, PC recognized the tablet and after that I ran the stock RUU, now it´s stuck on the process as it has been more than 20 minutes and progress bar in computer is at 100% with the following legend:
sending..........
updating the Rom image on your android phone
It is stuck there, how much should I wait? or if you recommend to do something else?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
UPDATE: RUU failed, says I have the wrong image, finished, exited and rebooted normally!
Now working, but I´m afraid to open the cover to insert my sd as the last time it was when it was turned off
Orb,
That sounds like it when into DL mode. On the flyer once you get out of DL mode it's normally fine after that. It seems to be random, mine did it once or twice, leedroid has seen it as have a few others.
After it boots again it goes back to normal.
Hi mate,
Thanks for your reply.
Very strange behavior. After all above mentioned I was able to use is perfect, even updated to OTA Honeycomb all went ok, installed some apps, etc.
Then decided it was time to test again to remove the cover and install my sd card, just in the minute I touched the back , not even finished of removing, and Flyer went screen off, now again I can´t turn it on. Could be a short circuit or something?
I will leave it connected to wall charger for the night and hopefully tomorrw will be able to turn it on again....
I swear never again to remove the back cover
PS: I checked battery level before all this and it was in 77%, now red led on power button is on...

That's weird, if it's not too much could you try and get a logcat (adb logcat) when its screen goes off while opening the cover. That should help us establish whether this is a HW problem(unique perhaps bad mainboard) or software problem (me,globatron,Lee, etc. experienced)
I can also confirm that it happened to me too couple of months back, but after soft reset it rebooted fine, but the backcover issue is new.

hello
Im orbs friend, my htc flyer still having the prob, everytime i touch the cover or pusih it by accident it goes back.
What I do is leaving it charging for awhile and press power button and vol down at the same time for around 30 sec for a couple of times and then it re start. Im guessing its not a software problem i dont find an explanation i even updated it to 2.3.4.

[Q] HTC One Hard Bricked! Help me please!

I've searched the forums of XDA and I've scoured the internet via google search and found nothing pertinent to my situation so I hope you guys can help! It seems I've hard-bricked my month-old HTC One. Never dropped it or got it wet.. Never even rooted or unlocked the bootloader.. it's completely stock. (I've been waiting very patiently for that 4.2.2 update to roll out for AT&T)
It just went completely dead earlier tonight as I was browsing the Play Store. I've tried to perform a reset by pressing the power button and down volume, but even after a full 60 seconds.. nothing. I've plugged it in the wall and no light comes up in the speaker grill. I've plugged it into my computer and nothing shows up.
Is there any way to fix this through ADB? Is there way to recover my data using ADB or some data recovery program on PC (or Linux)? Or is my best option to just take it back to the AT&T store and start anew? Thank you for your time/help XDA peeps!

Does any lights on the buttons come on ? Will the red light in the speaker grill come on connected to the charger?
I have read somewhere if you put the phone under bright lights then try to boot into the bootloader it will work, Sounds crazy I know but it works for some. Past experience on the HTC is if the battery is super low , like down to 30 % or less it wont come on. Have you tried to connect to a charger and leave it for a few hours then try ?

Nope, nothing.. No lights in the speaker grill at all when plugged in. I came across that light sensor trick and held my phone a foot away from vanity lights in the bathroom (should be bright enough right?) and tried to boot into the bootloader.. nothing. My battery was at about 60% when it did this last night. I tweeted HTCUSA and they told me to do a similar thing (put it on wall charger for a couple hours) and yep still nothing.

I know this sounds stupid, but is the cable good ? The one that came with the phone and charger? Have you tried other cables? Do you have adb set up right on the PC? Tried any adb commands to boot to bootloader? Last resort I can come up with. Have you run an RUU for your model and carrier?
same prob as OP
this same thing is what i am having a problem with this is the second time it has happened to me the first time it froze and i held the power button to turn it off and after about 10 min of holding various button combos it finally came on after holding the power button for a good 5 min.

Usually for the HTC ( well my experience). Holding the power button with the volume down button at the same time for an extended time, the lights at the bottom will flash for about 13 times continue holding the volume down button and release the power button. It should boot into the bootloader. From there, reboot, boot recovery or boot fastboot. IF this doesn't work, I have read in the posts here to hold the sensors under bright light and do the power down and volume down . If just rebooting the phone only hold the power button down. The lights on the bottom will still flash about 13 times and the phone will vibrate then release the button and it should reboot.
If the adb is working there is a mod called Regaw ModRebooter, which when installed sits quietly on the task bar or hidden icons. Just clicking will reboot to bootloader, recovery or reboot or power off the phone. I find this easier than using the buttons or just use ADB commands. Phone must be plugged in to PC to work though

[Q] Phone not rooted, but still stuck on fastboot mode

Hi,
Last week, I spilled a bit of beer on my Huawei Ascend G700. The phone started to turn the volume down at random moments when there were no buttons touched. I figured it was best to turn it off, pull out the battery, and let the phone dry.
It's been a few days now, but when I try to start the phone now, the only thing that happens is that only "=> FASTBOOT mode..." is showed in the bottom left corner. Nothing else, and it stays there until I pull the battery out.
I have tried disassembling the phone and clean it as far as I could, but it made no difference.
If I push the volume up button together with the power button it starts the recovery mode, but I can't do anything from there. And I can't connect to phone to my computer. (It isn't recognized).
I have found similar problems online, but with the difference that I have not rooted this phone. Is there a way to get the phone back working? I would like to keep the original firmware, if possible. For I can't think of a reason why it would be helpful to still try to root the phone.
So, the only thing that happened before my phone freaked out is that I have spilled a bit of beer on it (only a few drops, phone was in a case). Never rooted the phone. Phone was only a month old. I think it is running on android 4.2, but I'm not sure.
I think the volume down button is still making contact somehow as the beer has not dried off. Or maybe the button is being pressed somehow. I say this because when You power on an Android phone with power down key, it usually boots into fast boot. Try cleaning again.
