. Sony Smartband - Xperia Z2 Accessories

Hi now the Z2 has arrived in the UK and other markets a lot of the networks and retailers seem to be offering the Smartband in conjunction with the phone at half price. I certainly wouldn't pay £80 for it but am tempted at £40. I'm just curious how many have also ordered the Smartband and and what they think. I've ordered from Clove so my phone doesn't ship until Friday so I have a few days to make up my mind. For those unfamiliar with the band this is Clove's review.

I have one and I really like it. I use it to monitor sleep, walks, runs, and the alarming amount of time I spend on my phone. It's comfortable to wear too.
I really like the extra things you can set it up to do like skipping tracks, finding your phone, triggering the camera etc.
I just hope it gets continued development, it could do so much.
If you can get it at that price then I'd go for it. I ordered of very with a voucher code to get 25% off. For what I paid I am really happy with the purchase.
Keep in mind it will come down to preference. I'm pretty much OCD so it's great for me lol

I got one of these on Thursday, it's pretty comfortable and light. Unfortunately, I get randomly disconnected throughout the day, and it appears to be a fairly common problem.

How does it help you find the phone? Does the phone call when you press on the smartband? I could really use that haha

Yes, you press the button and then tap the smartband once to start the ring, twice to stop. Only thing is that you have to be in close contact so it doesn't loose contact with your phone.

I have it configured with my music app, so I can't use that feature. If I press and tap the music stops/starts/next song/previous song. I really like it. Looking forward to try the alarm in the morning, see how that works.

Works like a charm

Anyone get the pebble watch?

If so what do you think of it?
Mine shipped out today, so once I get it I'll let you know.
Sent from my badass LG Optimus G
I'm still waiting for mine:banghead:
Thanks guys. I'm really interested in them.
Honestly as goofy as it sounds it almost seems worth it just for a watch that can change facs
The idea of being able to check my text/email other stuff without having to constantly grab for my phone just sounds awesome.
Well, I've had mine for just over a week now, and I gotta say, it was worth every penny. This thing is fantastic! Great battery life (I've only charged it once, overnight, so far), and a simple interface. It pairs with my phone without any issues, and if I wander out of range of my phone it automatically pairs back up once I'm back in range, nearly flawlessly (there have been a couple of times it's gotten stuck in "Searching" mode but all I had to do was open the app and hit the button to stop searching then hit the button again to connect).
I was worried what having a bluetooth device constantly connected would do to my OG's battery life, but I think I acually get better life out of it since I no longer have to turn my screen on to check my notifications. So I'm getting about the same or slightly better life out of the battery, while my screen on time has gone way down. YMMV.
My favorite feature of the Pebble by far is the ability to control my phone's music player (PlayerPro) with it. Plus since it's waterproof, I actually use it in the shower to listen to music and skip tracks that are too loud/quiet, or not what I want to hear at that moment. It will also control Pandora and most other players. The downside of PlayerPro (and Pandora) is that it doesn't use the correct API so the metadata doesn't show up on the screen, but if you use the stock player or some other players that do, the metadata should show up too.
So far I'm very impressed. It's everything I thought it would be. Once they release the SDK and some devs work their magic, this thing will be even more functional, but just as is, it's great.
That's actually pretty cool. I keep forgetting it is waterpoof.
I wish I would have ordered it when I could have got it a bit cheaper though. I'm still hesitant about paying $150.
Hesitant paying 150 for a watch? What kind of watches do u wear?

With a Tasker app someone made called Pebble Notifier you can get any and every notification that can show up in the phone's notification bar on the watch. So if your bus app creates notifications of the bus times they'll show up.
Once the Pebble SDK is released devs can add whatever functionality they want to it for their own apps, and other devs here could probably figure out how to make it work if they want to invest the time.

I'm wondering how you guys are dealing with them. i hear the speakerphone isnt too good, are you guys using volume boost or some kind of app to make it louder. im also hearing people are having issues with knock on, having to do it 3 or 4 times before the screen comes on.
i think my biggest concern, and its not an actual problem with the phone. is LGs drop in value so fast, ill probably play it with for a week and stick with my s4 till the phones done dropping in price in about a month.

Coming from the Droid Incredible, then the Galaxy Nexus, then this - well, the tech has come a long way. I should probably post this in a separate thread, but do the buttons being on the back bother anyone? Because they don't bother me at all. I was a little surprised actually.
its good to hear that from more and more people. i imagine when you click on the back button it pushes the phone forward because of the force it takes the push the button but sounds like no ones having an issue with it.
I also love this phone

Speakerphone & call quality works fine for me, but each person seems to have diff exp when it comes to them. Honestly, this phone could produce NO SOUND and i'd prolly STILL use it, lol
as for Knock On, it takes a few awhile to a) realize you have to tap on a "clear spot" on any homescreen, not over an icon or you will launch it, little bit of learning curve, ppl soooo exaggerate... b) it seems to respond MUCH better to 'tap" from fingertips, not a "knuckle"...And most imp, if you find always, "looking for a cleared area to tap" to turn your device off, just double tap anywhere up by notifications, and it works EVERYTIME!
Do not be worried, within 10 minutes of opening the box, i can almost guarantee you will be totally sold on this phone...
Those "negative Nellies" are prolly the type that HAVE to find something to complain about...Every forum has 'em!
Ms D
I don't really use speaker phone so I can't comment, Bluetooth has worked well for me though. As far as knock on, if I have had my screen off for a long time, I find one initial touch and then doing knock on works 100 percent of the time.
And I actually like lg's keyboard! No one has mentioned it.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Yeah the speaker is a little weak in my opinion. Other than the HTCone i would say that all phone speakers are mediocre.. some are just a little better and some a little worse... I would say the lg g2's speaker is in the middle.. and if anything a little worse.. still it works and does the job for me. As far as Knock on/off .. It's a fantastic feature.. if the screens been off for 20-30 minutes it works the first try.. if it's been hours since you've touched your phone it seems like it takes 2 sets of knocks.. not a big deal though.. awesome feature! I've been transferring info/data/progs from my gs2 the last couple days and have noticed myself knocking on the GS2.. pretty funny but it's seems natural even after the first day!
Love the LG keyboard, I was using a leaked version on a rooted Optimus G and its the best kb I've used and it comes with 4 skins I believe. Knock on and off is imo the best feature out of all that any company has come up with in the last batch of flagships. I'm talking dynamic notifications, and always listening crap. Also nice to see they use the only feature I actually used on my old S4, smart screen to detect your still looking at screen and display stays on. I love the drag up feature to access quick access items, they added tons of options to the launcher more in line with an aftermarket one to a degree with icon changing, screen transitions and such.
Speaker isn't the worst, but it isn't the best either. Scale of 1-10 I would give it a 6 in accordance with my experience with other phones. It's very usable but won't win any awards for speaker sound, like the HTC One.
As far as knock on; when the screen is on, "tap off" works flawlessly when tapping the bar on the top or any open unused area on the screen. When "tapping on" the phone I tap three times and it works every time. Sometimes double tap doesn't work the first time when the screen is off.

Wondering if anyone here has a Pebble smart watch, and if it works on their Note 3 fine. I've been reading around that there are some issues with Touchwiz and the watch.

isnt the pebble 2 coming out soon?
I have one and was using it. There are bugs with it. It does work well as far as you get the notifications you are supposed to and it controls your music etc.
Problems however. Talk back bug happens with it and if you use the stock Internet browser, it talks to you with each page loading saying "page loading". Super annoying.
Also, you loose the ability to do one handed screen functionality. Ie. You can't swipe onto the screen from the side and shrink the screen down to make one handed use easier.
The last big issue I had with it was when I didn't wear my Pebble. The stupid pebble app would constantly search for the Pebble. Even when I would press the button in the app telling it not to, it would try to automatically reconnect periodically, like every 30 minutes. This wasted a lot of power, and, I found if I was using my phone with another blue tooth device such as headphones, would cause them to disconnect from the phone each time it would search for the Pebble. I had to resort to freezing the app each time I was not wearing my Pebble.
I quit using it and got a Gear. Now my Pebble is sitting in a drawer.

Smartband Question

Hi all...thinking about getting a Smartband just have a quick question...
does it have to be connected to and near the phone all the time? So for example if I leave the phone in the house and go out in the garden do some stuff and come back to the phone will it connect again and sync everything that I have done whilst away from the phone?
Pretty much a deal breaker for me if it doesnt so would really like to know
Thanks!
It carries on working when unconnected to the phone, don't worry. When it reconnects, it syncs previous data.
Example, I turn my phone off at night and the band tracks sleep data and syncs in the morning when I turn the phone on.
The only issue I have (not with the band but with the Lifelog app) is that every two days or so, it appears as if it no longer collects data and shows no updates in the timeline. The first time this happened I tried all kinds of things to get it working again and ended up factory resetting. it still wouldn't log anything. However, I have discovered that after a period of time, the data miraculously appears and everything has been logged. I think this is either a bug which an app update will remedy, or maybe something server side with Sony.
Either way, if you see stuff not appearing in your timeline, don't worry, it will show up later.
Great thanks for the reply...now going to see where I can get the best deal on one!

I did not dry it after shower. I take it off only for charging.
I didn't test it underwater yet, but it should be fine according to Sony:
Your SmartBand is waterproof and dust resistant in compliance with the Ingress Protection (IP) rating IP58, as explained in the table below.
This specific IP rating means that your SmartBand is dust resistant and is protected against low pressure water stream as well as against the effects of immersion for 30 minutes in fresh (non-saline) water up to 3 metres deep.
You can use your SmartBand:
in dusty environments, for example, on a windy beach.
when your fingers are wet.
in some extreme weather conditions, for example, when it’s snowing or raining.
in fresh (non-saline) water depths of 3 metres or less, for example, in a fresh water lake or river.
in a chlorinated swimming pool.

Might have something to do with it only being used as a charging port, as opposed to a data and charging port.
Though honestly, I don't really see how water could get inside the band anyways- creates a pretty decent seal.

Water can go in usb port but that won't harm your device.
It's just like jack on top of your Z1/Z2 - no matter it's opened - it's waterproof.
You can go swimming with smartband without any worries, it'll be OK.
That's the whole idea, swimming, running, showering, sleeping with it... - That device should monitor your life, I guess that's why they pick name LifeLog...

Question about Vibration Strength

Hey everyone,
How is the vibration strength for notifications on the new Moto 360?
I've got an Huawei Watch and I love it, but the vibration strength is pretty weak IMO. A lot of times, I hear the vibration rather than feel it.
If it's stronger on the new Moto360, I may switch.
Thanks!

Hello there,
I got mine yesterday, I am loving so far. The vibration was one of my worries, and I am glad to say it is ok, not great but ok. I have not tried the Huawei but I have heard the exact same comments over and over that you could actually hear it but not feel the vibration. I can assure you that this is not the case with the new Moto 360. I have tried deferent notifications, and I clearly felt them with a subtle noise, I have tried it in my pocket as well and felt them too!
it would have been nice if you can control the intensity, but may be for the next update.
Thanks.

Thanks for the answer - I had been wondering about this too. Can you also comment on the mic sensitivity - how close do you have to hold it to your mouth for it to pick you up? Does it consistently pick you up correctly? I'm trying to decide between the Moto 360 42mm and the Huawei and have heard that the Huawei mic is a bit hit and miss. For example, Lisa from MobileTechReview had difficulty getting it to pick her up in her review - see it here: https://youtu.be/H_ISBzY96M0?t=5m43s
EDIT: Also curious how long charging from empty or almost empty to 100% takes on the wireless charger.

From my initial test yesterday, it is indeed a hit or miss. I had to repeat couple of times to get it right. It was always confusing breath with Breeze or What's up with Whatsapp where I was trying to send a whatsapp message with voice command. But honestly that was within my expectation, especially with 'tricky' words or commands.
I will do another test tonight and see, I will also check wither I have to hold it closely to my mouth, it was natural to get it closer every time I used it!

It took almost 2 hours to charge from dead to 100%! way much more than expected. The good news is that it charged almost 50% in the 1st half hour. Anyway, i will be charging it overnight from now on, so its no biggy.
i currently have both watches and the moto vibrator is stronger. and i keep my watches relatively tight so they dont slide around and the huawei is definitely weaker. i can see how people who keep it loose may not feel it.

Thanks - is there any way to turn off the display, or the entire watch, while charging? Just thinking this might speed up the process, and reduce heat build-up. I seem to remember reading that there is a setting in the developer options in Android Wear for this.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm still on the fence on this one because I really like the Huawei. I'm going to go to Best Buy and check out the Moto in person.

I'm in the same position as you, but I don't have anywhere local to go and see these watches. I had actually settled on the Huawei and made my decision, but with reading over the past few days, watching video reviews and asking some questions on forums I've now swung in completely the opposite direction and am back to buying a Moto 360 42mm again!
I decided to stick with the Huawei. I just like the look of it better especially the ambient screen. My issue was small and really hasn't proven to be a big deal. Thanks again everyone for your feedback!

I was curious about the vibration strength as well.. I think my V20 has a weaker vibration motor so I seem to miss a lot of SMS messages and calls... my hope was if I get a watch, i'll be able to easily feel the vibration on my wrist... I read a few people saying the vibration was weak.. but seems to be on here most say its decent. Thanks!
