[Q] How do I open an .ssm (Samsung S Memo) file on my PC? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've created a backup of my Samsung Galaxy S 3 phone through Kies3 and sent my device for repair. Now I am trying to access the S Memo (notes) from the backup created but I can't open the file from my Windows machine. Is there a way I can open the .ssm file?
Thanks!

[Q] Data Recovery

Hi all,
I recently got a 16 gb wi-fi Galaxy Tab 10.1, still unrooted. Made a spreadsheet in quickoffice (.xlsx) and attempted to transfer to my computer via flash drive. Pulled the drive out after transfer w/o ejecting it and corrupted the file (listed as 0 kb). The file is no longer listed on the tab.
Is there a chance a data recovery option could retrieve the original spreadsheet?
If so, how? I'm on a Mac and have had success using Data Recovery II, but it never recognizes the tab as a drive that can be scanned / recovered
I'm definitely a noob when it comes to working with tablets, apologies if this seems obvious or has already been answered.

[Q] Running photorec *on* an android device.

I accidentally deleted some photos from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1,
since the photos had sentimental value (my marriage proposal ), I started a quest to restore them.
To tell a long story short:
I tried a lot of PC recovery programs, but non of them recognize the tab as a drive (because windows/Linux don't recognize it this way)
I tried purchasing "Hexamob Recovery Pro", but it doesn't work on honeycomb / internal storage drives
I looked everywhere for a photorec binary to run from a terminal emulator
diskhelp/photorec is a tool for linux to restore deleted files with.
I am desperately seeking help to run photorec (or any file recovery program) from the android tab itself.
My Tab is rooted with clockwork recovery and busybox installed.
Any ideas anyone? any lead would really make my day.
Now, any ideas ?

File Transer

I have this weird problem, I can't move files from my PC to S3 but it can do everything else.
What works:
1. I can see my phone in windows explorer including all the files.
2. I can copy files inside the phone. (using the phone)
3. I can copy folders from S3 to PC.
What doesn't:
1. When connected to USB i can see the files in windows explorer in the phone, i can right click and copy them or drag but it does not paste on the destination folder.
2. When I try to copy files on the computer from the SD card to the same folder using windows explorer a pop up window comes out saying "Cannot copy (title of file being copied): The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". But it is not disconnected nor did it stop because i can still browse the SD Card and the phone in windows explorer. When I copy the same file and folder inside the phone it works.
3.If i use Odin to try and flash another image it sees the phone but just sits without transfering even when phone is in download mode
What I already tried
1. Checking and un-checking USB debugging.
2. Turning the phone off an on again.
3. Using another laptop. So I guess the problem is in the phone.
4. Using another USB cable.
5. Factory reset
6. fix permissions in rom manager
Phone Info:
Phone: Samsumg Galaxy S3 GTI9300
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.031- 368423 [email protected] #1
Any help appreciated!
Hey
Is the s3 drivers properly installed on your laptop??
Sent from my Awesome GT-I9300..!
I had a similar experience... here's what I did:
Uninstall kies.
Reboot pc
Reinstall kies
Enable usb debugging on your galaxy
Insert usb
Browse and copy.
Recommendation: use the same usb port every time you connect your device to the pc. At least on my system, it tries installing new Samsung modem drivers with every usc port I plug my phone into. And that's just silly.

[Q] on custom roms, problem the App_Backup_Restore folder is hidden under usb connect

I am using the App_Backup_Restore folder to backup files from the android tablet to pc, but I have to move the folder into another folder to see it like moving it too the download folder for my windows pc/ both desktop and laptop over the mtp connection from the samsung galaxy tablet 10.1.
I am using currently nameless-4.4.4-20140802-p4wifi-HOMEMADE rom, I have noticed this problem in a few other roms too, I don't no if its a software bug with App Backup & Restore, since it the default samsung rom version P7510XABLPL_P7510UELPL_HOME.tar.md5 , the folder is never hidden over the mtp connection between the tablet and the pc
I am not sure if any other software acts like this and hides folders from windows too under this rom
also using 6-19_GApps_Minimal_4.4.4_signed, twrp2710-wifi, 6-19_GenieWidget_4.4.4_signed, 6-19_AOSP_Calendar_Sync_4.4.4_signed,6-19_AOSP_Browser_Sync_4.4.4_signed, 6-19_FaceUnlock_4.4.4_signed
under the android using File Manager app, is how I move this folder into another cut and paste, then it shows up in windows, again under the samsung rom 4.0.4 , this software title never hides the backup folder, it only seems to happen when using custom roms
So my Question is hidden folders a feature of the newer androids or a bug of using custom roms? that maybe never been fixed?
