Error when installing OTA update 4.4.2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've tried getting the OTA update and i keep getting an error. I do have root, but that shouldn't stop me from installing it right? I should just lose root once it is installed i believe. What could be the problem? Thanks for the help.

use the update guide (found here) and install it with ss. if not you will loose root and there is no known 4.4.2 root method for the gs4. if you dont care about root flash the mk2 odin file (found here) and take the update.

Thank you so much

You will loose root but easy to fix
Sideloading is already build in the new update so don't need any mod

Safest way to root S4 MDK build running 4.2.2?

Im asking if there's any fool proof ways to root this configuration because i just bought the phone and dont wont to brick it like my s3 hard bricked. Any help or comments appreciated, thinking about just updating to 4.3 and waiting for a root method with that.
Read this. Used this guide for both my gs4's with zero issues

Don't update. You'll lose your ability to have a real custom recovery. Just stay on MDK and root. Then you can go ahead and flash a 4.3 ROM.

Should i factory reset and root before activating the phone with verizon?
I personally would just root, install custom recovery then wipe. After that pick a rom as most have ota updates disabled. Or install titanium backup pro and freeze the update apk's (I forget the file names)

Ok, is it safe to activate and root as long as i stop the OTA update?or just root and then activate? thanks for the replies by the way
Either way you do it just do not take the ota. I always root first and install custom recovery

Remove safestrap using the directions in the Safestrap thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441)
Then follow the "Update to VRUEMJ7 and Keep Root" thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408)

Don't do it.
Get something that you can flash based on the newer firmware.
If you have safestrap and you like the ability, don't update to MJ7.

I did enjoy the ability, but then I started messing with xposed framework and noticed those tweaks are what I cared for. Touchwiz doesn't bother me and with the touchwiz tweaks it makes it similar to custom rom.
I do however will only go to mj7 if there is root method, which I've read there is..
Thanks for your input.

No, using that method to retain root through the OTA does not use Vroot. I used that method successfully and am on mj7 and have root.
No Chinese stuff

You can keep root through the upgrade.
What happens if you need to flash your device??????
THen you need vRoot.
I'm just saying, I won't move to a new OTA unless there is a reliable root method.
With my luck something goes south and I need to re-root after a flash.

Yes if you were on one of the previous basebands you could take the mj7 OTA and keep root. Like shown here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408
And yea.. As soon as you're on mj7 you're stuck there, no going back. If you had to flash mj7 for some reason after all that, then you would be left with the choice of using those Chinese root methods. But that guide that was already mentioned above by another poster worked prefect for me.

[q] lost root

I'm running a verizon gs4. I was previously rooted and running hyperdrive. After the last update I lost root. I have tried to re-root
using odin and motochopper. When I run the root exploit it fails because it says su is already installed. Pretty lost at this point.
I've searched the forums and google to no avail. Anyone have some direction I could take? I am able to access cwm and still flash
hyperdrive but cannot get root back

Im confused what last updated did you take and how do you have cwm working? Since mj7. ..only recovery is safestrap.

If you have cwm just flash this http://download.chainfire.eu/382/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip. If you are on hyperdrive but have lost root that should fix you right up.

When I updated to HD rls 15. Running MDK so cwm still works.
Thanks hix that did the trick

I'm also curious how you're on a Verizon s4 that you updated and were still able to have CWM. You'd have to be on maybe an international S4 ,,TMobile.. Sprint... To name a few for this to be possible.

OTA Update 4/14/2014

I've received a message for a software update. When I attempt to install it using the <About Device_Software Update>, I get a pop-up saying my device has an unauthorized update installed. Use Samsung Kies to install new update.
Anyone else getting this error?

You can use Kies to flash, or download the .tar file and flash via Odin...that way you don't lose your app data.
Once you flash the new update via Odin, just re-root using CF-Auto-Root

If you have G900TUVU1ANCH that is the newest available version.
I don't think everyone got this update from G900TUVU1ANCD right away.
Probably just a delayed update to that.
That one should be available through samfirmware.com
Ya I am on that version but I got a ota notice last night but couldn't take it because I am rooted

That's strange
I'm not rooted and says I'm up to date when I check.
Not sure what that would be then. Either that or a glitch in the matrix.
Mine says it's been modified in an unauthorized way, even though it's practically bone stock. The only thing I can think of is I have developers menu unlocked. Any ideas?

I'm not rooted, but I did turn on ART. I changed back to original, still custom status Turned off Dev Mode (even though the application is still there) and still no luck. Restarted multiple times.
What is ART? If I may ask
