[Q] No In Call Audio - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello,
I am new to this forum but am in need of help. After I flashed the latest CM11 for my s4 there has been no audio when I receive a call. I can force close the app and then open it and put on speaker and there will be audio only through the speaker. When I turn off speaker, the screen goes black and there is no more audio. I have tried reverting back to stock and it didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am running on MDK and was wondering if updating to ME7 would fix it? But I am unsure and want a better opinion than my own. Thank you for the help!

Go back to your previous backup...do not update your base build.

I screwed myself on that one, my last backup is after this happened. I figured going back to stock through ODIN would do the trick, however, still no luck.

Did you use this Odin MDK file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289325
That's the full wipe one and usually people have had better luck with this one..You didn't update your bootloader past MDK did you?

Maybe try flashing the MDK non-hlos modem from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46550751
I'm not really sure myself.. Have you tried any other ROMs to see if the problem persists?

Re-rooted and installed TWRP recovery. Flashed the Non-HLOS and still persists. Then installed Hyperdrive RLS 15 and nada.....
Reinstalled CM11 and called my voicemail. No sound and phone app does not respond to touches. I can't switch to speaker or dial numbers on the pad during a call nor can I hang up.

Jeeeez man that just plain sucks huh?!
I don't know what else to say myself. You've done all different Odin files the MDK modem and different ROMs.
Someone smarter than I hopefully will see this and add something maybe I'm just not thinking of..
Some ROMs I've ran recently that worked great for me were Liquid Smooth, Mahdi, and AICP . not sure if trying even more ROMs would be worth it but I'd be trying I'm sure lol.

[DEVS/Firmware] JSS15J.N900PVPUBMI5 update.zip

Hi guys.
Here is the update.zip for MI5. I have taken the liberty to remove the firmware (bootloader, trustedzone, etc) from this just incase Samsung is trying to pull something. I'm posting two versions, one with the firmware and one without. Appyling this update.zip caused my phone to not boot with the updated kernel. I had to revert back to the MI3 kernel in order to boot up. I'm assuming this is due to either root, or me removing the firmwares. That is why i'm labeling this as dev.
NOTE: DO NOT FLASH THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR PREVIOUS KERNEL AND CAN RESTORE.
NOTE2: You can safely flash the Update WITH previous kernel once it goes live.
Update with no firmwares:
MI5 Update NO bootloader
Update with firmwares:
MI5 Update FULL
Update with previous kernel:

Thanks. If I don't see a new TAR this weekend I'll patch the modem so it can be flashed via Odin.

Can't wait to see how the mi5 setup works out. Cause as of right now, the call quality is horrible. I'm dropping 10+ calls a day. In areas my note2 would never drop a call.

flashed earlier. never had as good of a signal as I am getting now.
4glte connects stronger, and for further distances than ever before, lte to 3g handoff was flawless. and call quality was vastly improved.
Thanks for packaging this up freeza! u the man.

Yes please tell us, I am just dying to flash something here! I had completely stopped doing anything with my E4GT because it simply could not handle all the apps and features I wanted. Now I have this powerhouse but nothing to flash lol. [I understand it takes time and the device has been out in the wild for less than a week, BUT I'M EXCITED!]

Tried flashing the one with no bootloader it failed. I am on jellybomb domination v1.0 tried flashing using twrp. What could I have done wrong? Also, will this give me ml5 modem? Right now I am on ml3 and I am getting terrible signal, always in roaming and get horrible call quality.

When you are in TWRP, the "boot" check box, is the kernel. So, when backing up or restoring, as long as that box is checked, the kernel should be backed up (or restored).

We have been trying all day to get the update... It is not yet available for me or freeza.
if you would like too return to stock, and if you get the OTA. let us know...
we can walk you through pulling the files, and uploading, so either myself or freeza can make a flashable for everyone. I also spoke to Garwyn, and he doesn't have the OTA yet either. It also isn't posted on Sammobile, and it isn't available in Kies yet either...
Be patient. Obviously, we will be posting stock rom, odin restore, and update zips/. these things just take time.

[Q] Verizon MK2 S4 Stuck After Flashing HDRLS12

Recently flashed the RLS12 Safestrap rom for my GS4, Verizon on MK2. The flashing and install seemed to go smoothly, wiped etc with no problems. Ran through the aroma installer, again, no issues. Flashed the MK2 verizon modules and rebooted. The bios boot sequence came up (pretty sweet BTW) and all seems fine. However, it stops at "Beginning Android Boot sequence" and won't go any further. I've heard rumors of this first boot taking upwards of 10 minutes, but I've tried this 3 times now and let it sit for as long as 35 minutes without any results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Im having the same issue and I even flashed MJ7 and tried to flash it too. I don't even get to the boot screen I have a black screen but a flawless install up to the reboot. I have flashed plenty of hyperdrive with the correct modules I even tried different versions of hyperdrive. The OP stated compatibility with everything up too MJ7 that's why I went back to MJ7 still no joy when I as originally on MK2.

Did you download the Safestrap specific Rom? There are 2 separate downloads.

I had that problem and I got fixed by downloading the right file.
You need to download the RLS12 Safestrap Rom not the regular RLS12.
The regular one is for MDK TWRP recovery rom so it doesn't boot.

You delete ROM slots from within SafeStrap. Just activate your stock slot, then go over to whatever slots you have and I usually formatted and then deleted them. Fairly simple. Then try creating a new ROM slot and reflash the ROM and modules.

UPDATE: Hey buddy - I got it fixed yesterday. It's amazing how much you learn by making mistakes. My first mistake was, as mentioned in an earlier post, I got trigger happy and flashed to my stock rom slot instead of setting up a custom slot (stupid me). Looking back, I can't believe I did that. My second mistake was trying to reflash the incorrect stock rom file using Odin. I finally got the correct one from SamMobile.
Anyone having trouble on galaxy phones should check out rootjunky's youtube posts. He's great!! You have to be careful though because he jumps around on different builds. My only question now is whether or not Hyperdrive is compatible with the MK2. Everything I see is for the MDK and others. Is the build number critical or is it more critical to have the compatible recovery or both? I thought I would ask before I try flashing this rom again. Also, any suggestions on compatible MK2 roms would be great. I'm having trouble finding any.
Thanks,
BC

It's really the most complete and helpful site I think for our phones.
Just remember that since you're on MK2 4.3 that whatever SafeStrap rom you flash must also be based off 4.3 as well, and you will also have to flash MK2 modules zip file as well.
And I'd also like to say for the record since were here.... You're most likely going to want to hold off on the KitKat update from Verizon until there are proven and reliable root methods and SafeStrap is available. .. that is if you want to keep flashing ROMs.
Just my two cents lol

[Q] Illusion for MK2!

Those on MK2 With safe strap and want to get rid of Touch Wiz ( which I do -.-) Get the Illusion ROM for your Galaxy S4 (Verizon). That's all. Except the only bug/s is WiFi doesn't even if you try flashing the MK2 Module's. And those On AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, NET10... Etc using there Verizon Galaxy S4 will not get Data to work. I have Straight talk and tried everything to get Data to work. I've flashed all Carrier Roms (the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular) together and see if that would help. Nope. But Messaging (just SMS) works and so does calls and Voice Mail (xD)
And if someone could extract this and try making another AOSP ROM that works with MK2 (or SafeStrap) and make CM11/10 to work, that would be excellent!
Credit for the ROM goes to the Developer. I am not endorsed with the development/developer nor do I hold responsible for your phone being a toaster

If you guys are on 4.2.2, it would make since if it was a gpe rom, as gpe was somehow compatible with 4.2.2 safestrap. If I remember correctly, someone said that the differences between the kernels was negligible and could boot with the tw kernel.
I would say its safe to assume that its actual AOSP seeing that it uses the CM kernel source (or at links to it on the OP), however, there are no accounts in the thread of the rom cook saying that it is AOSP, only other posters.
Haven't tried to download it yet, but I'm going to convince myself that you guys are just pulling a sick April fools prank.

Well so far it's AOSP ROM. It has pure android, the weight of the zip is so light and if. And yes, A Dev did say it wasn't compatible with any AOSP ROM's. But I found a ROM that works! I'll post some screen shots of the AOSP ROM. And if it says AT&T its because I have a Straight Talk Sim Card in it.
So far people are eager with this. If we can get more people's attention we can probably get Hashcode to see what's making this ROM work on AOSP

Well that happened to me as well. It wouldn't boot up to the system so I booted up to the actual Odin Flash and it said Volume Up=Continue and Volume Down=Cancel(Restart) and then I did the Volume down and it got into the system. Well I hope that helps!

Downgrading to mdk...

I'm pretty sure my phone is also a time machine...here's why, and please clear this up for me. I have tried googling this to find out how I ended up with such a special Super Galaxy S4. I got my Verizon S4 back in April last year and have been rooted ever since it was possible...so, in other words I have one of the original MDK builds. Why am I always reading about people freaking out because of 'accidentally' upgrading their firmware on these builds...hang on, let me continue. I have flashed a ROM on my phone about 131 times, and flashed maybe 2 or 3 radios...after doing so, my baseband and build numbers would change pretty regularly... to ME7, MK2, and everything in between. I have absolutely no trouble flashing whatever I want for the most part, and can always go back to MDK...why is this? I have lots of theories but they all revolve around me being awesome...and I'm sure you'd rather not hear them. Can anyone explain this?

Well I think your referring to flashing custom ROMs that are " upgraded" past MDK. You can obviously do that without issue. You can also flash any modem you want ( baseband ).
But what people are referring to when they say do NOT update an MDK phone is either an OTA Update directly from Verizon... Or using Odin to flash stock firmware beyond MDK.
If you do that your bootloaders going to lose the Loki Exploit and bye bye custom recovery... Follow me??

Your bootloaders going to be MDK
And your radio will be whatever one you last flashed. And depending on what ROM you're running, in your about phone it MAY show you a different build other than MDK. That's just the build the Dev based the ROM off of.

Like the poster above said, flashing Modems/Radios will change what's shown as your "baseband" in about phone, but won't affect your MDK bootloader. So your bootloader version was never upgraded/downgraded.
phew!
Ah...so it's not all about me. Thanks for the thoroughly explained answers from both of u guys. That really clears things up. And glad to know about the modem being OK to flash/upgrade. Well, I am EXTREMELY lucky- seeing how I tried an OTA update last week after having to flash a retail image to my S4 with Odin (soft brick)...because the OTA update failed! I will NEVER try that again!! Ha. Thanks for the info!

Definitely don't update via OTA or use anything in Odin other than MDK.!!!
After you root your phone use Titanium Backup and freeze "SDM " and "FWUpgrade" then make a backup in whatever recovery you're using.
Those two things being frozen ( I think SDM is good enough ) will stop any OTA possibility. Although being rooted and whatever else you may have done should be enough to stop it. No need to risk it lol

Hmm...I searched Titanium for SDM and anything with FW (FWUpgrade) in it, i dont see anything there. I tried just browsing too. Maybe BoneStock v2.1 (VZW, TW, 4.3) is built without those files already? I'd like to do what you're recommending though, that makes so much sense. I found "ConfigUpdater" but, that's probably not what I want, right?

Yea I was referring to if you were on stock MDK ... The devs most certainly remove all that junk. My bad for not making myself clear.. Thanks Josh

[Q] Custom Recovery wont Load

I have an SCH-i545 and It was recently on NK1, I downgraded to NC5 and used towelroot. Did a factory wipe from the recovery, but now I cant get either TWRP or CWM to load? It only uses the stock samsung/verizon recovery, and this is not letting me flash any custom rom. Did I miss a step somewhere? I've got SuperSU installed aswell.

Any firmware THAT IS NOT MDK doesn't have a bootloader unlock. TWRP, CWM, Phillz will not work. Only Safestrap does.

No it is not. Verizon implemented a downgrade block. You can't go back to MDK, there is no way..
Right on, good to know! Appreciate your knowledge!!

You can flash stock based Roms with safestrap still. You just can't flash a non stock kernel. Which means stock Roms only.
I ended up going with the cleaned stock nk1 and I'm digging it, once I get on my pc and can search better I'll go with eclipse perhaps. The Wi-Fi won't turn on though, gonna head over to that post and figure it out. =) thanks again

I believe there is a WiFi module to flash. Eclipse has it built in. WiFi working perfect here.

That's not entirely true. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/rom-kitpop-v1-0-t3019132
AOSP Safestrap-compatible ROMS are starting to pop up. I'm not sure how they work/how well they work, but there it is.
